My 2000 chevrolet tahoe spare tire cable(s) broke on sunday, sept 12. i was traveling less than 40mph coming onto an exit, looked in my rear view mirror and suddenly saw a tire that was not there seconds ago. i pulled to the side, backed up and realize my tire was in the middle of the highway belonged to me. thank god, the person driving the car behind me was able to miss hitting it. monday, september 13, i called chevrolet customer service. i asked if there were similar reports of spare tires coming off from underneath vehicles? i was told by jovi no.

The tools provided to change a flat tire do not include the allyn wrench necessary to remove the hubcap cover on the factory installed tires and wheels, without the wrench the tire cannot be changed, also the owners manual that comes with the vehicle makes no reference to the wrench being included in the tool kit provided with the car and also makes no reference to the existence of a hubcap cover or that it has to be removed in order to change flat tires. nlm

August 2003 airbag sensor light came on. we were told that ifthis sensor came on, there was a problem with the airbag system and that none of the airbags would deploy. in researching the problem, we found that 525,254 chevy tahoe ls, year 2000 were recalled for defective sensors(sensing diagnostic module) and/or airbag problems. during a routine oil change a diagnostic scan was run on the vehicle. we were then told to bring the vehicle into a dealer for possible warranty work. eisinger motors, 1000 west idaho, kalispell mt 406-755-5555 told us that we would be responsible for paying for the repair costs. since the vehicle was on the recall list (actually there are 5 nhtsa recalls on the chevy 2000 tahoe ls), are we actually responsible for repair costs? nhtsa states that dealers will recalibrate the sdm on the affected vehicles andthat owners who do not receive the free remedy should contact chevrolet or gmc. if the airbag deployment system is not immediately attended to, the driver and or passengers could receive severe injuries.
