VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL - LINKAGES
EA02015GENERAL MOTORS CORP.08/01/200201/12/2004THROTTLE STICKING CLOSED
This investigation involves the general motors corporation (gm)throttle body (tb) utilized in model year (my) 1999-2002 silverado, sierra, tahoe, suburban, avalanche and yukon (subject vehicle(s)) with 4.8l, 5.3l, and 6.0l engines. the tb valve may intermittently stick in a closed position.in such a situation, an operator may apply additional accelerator pedal force to increase engine speed.the application of additional accelerator pedal force, to open a stuck throttle valve, may open the throttle valve more than intended and, in turn, accelerate the engine and vehicle more than intended and reasonably expected by the driver.on august 1, 2002, the office of defects investigation (odi), of the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa), opened this engineering analysis.the investigation revealed that two factors may cause the defect: 1) tb manufacturing process problems; and 2) accumulation of deposits (a pcv system by-product) on or around the tb throttle valve and bore.odi concludes that the tb performs in a defective manner after analyzing gm

I previously filed a complaint for the rear seat belt malfunctioning but this vehicle has several dangerous issues..the throttle sticks and happened with my 2 children in the vehicle driving 55 mph..not fun! the outcome could have been detrimental. the parking brake does not work and has been fixed 2 times..it still does not work and will not pass inspection...the antilock brakes engage for short stops and the vehicle slides!! this is just unbelievable to me. gm must have many lawsuits in the works and many to come. *nm

Gas pedal sticks closed, and requires a large amount of pressure to depress brake pedal. happens every time the vehicle is stopped. when you start up in morning, leaving parking spaces, at stop lights, etc. *jb

I took my 2001 chevy tahoe to the local dealer to fix a sticking gas pedal. since the vehicle is under the original warranty (3 yr/36,000 mile), i should not incur the cost of repair. and with only 25,000 miles, a sticking gas pedal is not normal. however, chevrolet/gm does not agree (please see email traffic). i feel that this carbon buildup is a known defect and a safety issue - not a normal emissions operation. could you please look into this matter? nobody deserves to have a sticking gas pedal at any time. thank you. sincerely, joseph c. cua *ak >>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<< dear mr. cua, thank you for your continued patience as we have researched your questions regarding the gas pedal sticking in your 2001 chevrolet tahoe. we appreciate your patience. we did contact gunn chevrolet and spoke with service manager, stephanie rocha. ms. rocha advised us that in the owners manual, under the section of maintenance services, it specifically states at 15,000 miles that the vehicle may require emissions service and then possibly again at 30,000 miles. ms. rochas states that the sticking pedal is due to carbon build up from gasoline and is deemed normal maintenance and is part of the emissions service. maintenance is the responsibility of the customer. we apologize for any dissatisfaction this may have caused. if you should need to contact us in the future, simply reply to this message or call our chevrolet customer assistance center at 1-800-222-1020. please reference file number 1-108448392. customer relationship managers are available monday through friday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., eastern time. again, thank you for contacting chevrolet. sincerely, nicole torres customer relationship manager chevrolet customer assistance center

2001 chevrolet tahoe, only 51,000 miles and accelerator sticks which is very dangerous. had it repaired today at dehaven chevrolet. they had a service bulletin on it and repaired it at a cost of $193.59, but truthfully $139.95 directly related. i feel this problem should not happen so soon in a vehicles life, and is so safety related, that chevrolet should repair under a recall, or at their expense. i've never had a stuck accelerator problem and i am glad the kids, and my wife mentioned it. it did stick on once or twice. i had fixed within 2 days. *nlm
