Last year i notice that the traction active warning would go on and there was a humming noise that would follow. this would happen throughout the first few months. around may of last year it started happening more often, as i was driving the truck would suddenly stop and turn off on its own after traction warning came on. also after having stopped at a traffic light the traction warning would come on when accelerating to go . this has happened now everyday since may of last year. i have researched this online to see if this is happening to any other owners of tahoes and it has. from what i have read cheverolet has not been able to fix this problem. i have been fortunate not to be rear ended by another car but i have had some close calls. i have read that other drivers have turned off their stabilitrak control. i have tried this and it does help to some extent but this is not the solution to the problem. cheverolet knows of the problem and they have not issued a recall for this problem. other drivers have brought their suv in for repairs and had the speed sensors replaced. when they drive their suv after the so call repair, the problem still continues. i believe the issue is the transfer case. due to that every time this problem would start the noise would come from right under the driver seat. even with the stabilitrak control being turned off the humming and rumbling of gear sounds right under the seat. this is a dangerous situation when driving 30 to 40 mph the suv coming to a stop and turning off. several people wrote that this happened at hwy speed. this has been my fear. cheverolet should officially recall tahoes with this issue. in canada a recall was put out due to a similar situation. why is it that this hasn't been done here and owners in the us have to pay for repairs that have not solved the problem.

The shift lever position indicator located in the instrument panel cluster does not illuminate at various times. this has happened on and off for a while and i decided to research the issue. i found a similar recall for this model year vehicle on your website, but gm refuses to cover the defect on my vin. i recently almost hit someone being in the wrong gear. this matches a previous recall id of 05v055000.

While driving on the freeway, vehicle lost acceleration although gas pedal was engaged. when i released my foot from the pedal, the gear engaged and vehicle continued for a short time before repeating same symptom. vehicle did not fix itself. safely coasted to shoulder of freeway. put vehicle in park. let it sit a moment and shifted back to drive. was able to get vehicle off freeway and to safe location, but it continued to slip from gear. it finally stuck in 1st gear and would not shift up. *tr

I have a 2005 chevy tahoe, that has over 100,000 miles. i first noticed a problem a few months ago when i was driving and it would seem like the pedal would stick a little bit, but i didn't think anything odd about that. (because i thought maybe might foot wasn't accelerating properly) the day before thanksgiving without warning i was on the highway driving around 65 mph and the vehicle started to drag horribly. i immediately exited the highway and pulled into a gas station to check my transmission fluid, which was full. i took the vehicle to aamco, they placed it on the machine and everything came back fine, however, when the mechanic drove the vehicle he determined it was stuck in 3rd gear. the vehicle repairs total @ $1800.00 which i don't have especially around the holiday's. the vehicle is now sitting in my garage because i cannot afford to pay for it. i purchased this vehicle when i lived in georgia in 10/2006, it had 55,000 miles on it at the time with no visible abuse. *tr

My 2005 leased chevy tahoe had approximately 49,000 miles on it when the transmission failed. there was no forewarning. the car performed normally right up to the minute the transmission let go. i was driving 45 mph when a gear exploded and the car was left with only first and third gear. the car was brought to a dealer and gm refused to cover the repair because we had not taken their extended warranty. i was furious because after inspecting the torn down transmission, it was obvious that there was no abuse to the vehicle and that the gear had shattered inside the housing (i have pictures of the inside of the transmission). i first called the gm service 1800 number and they refused to pay for anything. after a week of speaking to agents and supervisors, i was given the name of the local chevy dealer district manager. i contacted him and after investigating, he offered to pay half the cost (total cost estimated to be $3200). i let the car sit at the dealership for 21 days while i fought with these people. finally, they agreed to pay for everything but the dealership labor. they also said they would guarantee the rebuilt transmission they were installing for another 100,000 miles - that was of no concern to me since it is a leased vehicle i will be getting rid of as soon as possible! i paid approximately $450 for the repairs and picked up my vehicle after 28 days. it seems to me that if you are willing to stick to your argument and have the ability to leave your vehicle sitting in the dealership repair shop, you can bargain because they know deep down it is a defective part and should last longer on a $38,000 vehicle. if i wasn't 8 months pregnant at the time, i would have let the vehicle sit there until they paid for everything. ps - it was a boy!! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet tahoe. the contact stated that the speedometer would remain at 50 mph, even if she was not accelerating. the gauge never displayed zero. while the vehicle was stationary, the speedometer would occasionally display 120 mph. in addition, the transmission was malfunctioning and would slip into gear hard. the entire transmission was rebuilt three times. even after the transmission was repaired, the speedometer still malfunctioned. it became stuck at 120 mph and never decreased. the contact discovered nhtsa campaign id number 05v055000 (power train:manual transmission:shift pattern indicator). the dealer stated that the vehicle would not be repaired because it exceeded 70,000 miles. the manufacturer would not provide any information due to a pending class action suit. the current mileage was approximately 105,000 and failure mileage was 68,583.

Dt*: the consumer stated the problem began as a cracking sound while turning the wheel in either direction. the vehicle was taken to the dealership and an adjustment to the control arm was made. one month later, the problem still persisted. on december 29, 2005 the cracking sound was heard again, the vehicle stopped and the throttle would not depress. the vehicle would not gain momentum in either of the gears. the dealership determined the failure was with the differential unit, they noticed either the drive train or the axle was damaged. a heavy duty removal unit was used to remove and replace the axle and differential unit. the vehicle was picked up from the dealership yesterday and on january 12, 2006 the cracking noise was heard again. *jb
