The locking mechanism on my chevy tahoe 2008 ltz no longer works on the passenger side door. the electronic lock/unlock door mechanism no longer locks or unlocks the passenger door as well as the key remote no longer locks or unlocks the front passenger door. it sounds like from reading the other numerous complaints regarding this issue i can expect the rest of the door locks to quit operating at some point. this is obviously a real safety concern.
02/20/201365289
The company i work for purchased four 2008 tahoes new. all have had door lock problems. mine just happened on both driver side doors and it cost $741 to have fixed today at chevy dealer. i believe the other 3 tahoes were under warranty at the time, but not sure. the tahoe i drive was not under warranty. as others have said, you cannot unlock the rear doors since there is no key, and the manual button is not near the pillars so you cant reach it from the front doors. its a bad situation if you needed to access the rear doors.

I have taken my 2008 tahoe ltz to the gmc dealership multiple times to repair the door locks / outer door handles. i have had two of the door locks replaced because they will not unlock when i hit the unlock button on the doors or the key fob. this is a major defect in this vehicle. it is a safety conern because i have a small child and i am afraid if i were to have an accident and i try to unlock the doors they will fail and i will be unable to get my child out without crawling over the front seats to manually unlock the lock. the same with the outer door handles breaking. i have had two of those replaced. i had to crawl over the passenger seat at one point to be able to get in the vehicle until i could get it to the dealership. i have searched the internet and see there are several complaints about these issues, yet there are no recalls. please help us. *tr

To whom it may concern; i am writing because i have had similiar problems with the door locks on our 2008 chevy tahoe. we have had a problem with the door locks in the past as we have had to literally climb out of the window to get out of the vehicle. we have been experiencing problems with the door locks again and took the vehicle to the chevy service this morning. their customer service rep said the charges are $300 plus. the vehicle has only 84,470 miles. this problem is huge considering that you can not get out of the car once a lock completely fails in that you have to climb out of the window to get out of the car. also the front driver side window has been making grinding noises when it is used open and close. as this is also another similiar issue that others have complained about. my question is why is this so hard to recall and fix? being that we spent good earn money to buy this vehicle and very much loyal to chevy's vehicles. what happened to taking care of your loyal customers? a recall should be indeed initiated to settle these repeated isues with these vehicles so customers can feel that chevorlet is indeed loyal to their customers as we are loyal to purchase their vehicles. money isn't everything however taking care of your customers can go a lifetime. it starts with the customers first.

Failure of all four power door locks on my 2008 tahoe. at almost exactly 3 years and 30,000 miles of ownership, the door locks of my, purchased new, 2008 tahoe ltz began to fail. all four locks failed within 12 months of each other. the vehicle had less than 40,000 miles and four years of service at the last and final (4th) failure. concern: (#1) there is only one manual keyed entry located on the vehicle which is the drivers door. in the event of an emergency and total electronic lock failure, the only passenger door access would be through the drivers door utilizing the key and manual lock/unlock feature. if the manual lock were to also fail, there would be no way to gain access to the vehicle through any of the four passenger doors. restricted access to the vehicle could cost the life of a child, adult passenger or pet trapped in the vehicle. the system could be designed safer with a redundant manual lock located on another door. additionally, the electronic locking mechanisms currently installed are inadequate and unsafe. the common failure of these systems eliminates the argument of electronic redundancy for the system since the installed product is faulty and unreliable. why should we be forced to accept these unsafe products/designs on our vehicles? concern: (#2) the cost of replacing a lock has been quoted between $250 to $450 per lock from different facilities. the pricing may influence a generally safe mined person to postpone a repair which impacts the redundancy feature of the electronic system. note: these locks typically begin to fail immediately after the warranty expires. and, gm corporation is unwilling to help with the cost and wasted time to deal with the issue. further investigation by the nhtsa is warranted and i feel a recall should be mandated. *tr

I currently own a 2008 chevy tahoe. today 1-17-13 , i had to have the power door lock actuator replaced for the 5th time on this vehicle. every door has been affected at least once with today being the right rear door having to be replaced for a second time. from what i have read numerous times online , this seems to be a recurring problem for the gm suv products starting with the 2007 model years. gm has yet to address this issue with a recall , however i feel as well as many other owners of these vehicles that this could cause a serious issue if the vehicle is hit from the side or a water related accident occurred with the vehicle being submerged and not being able to get out. 1 or 2 instances in a 4.5 year period i could understand but 5 in a 4.5 year period involving every door is not a coincidence. the replacement cost is well in excess of $200 and as such i can understand why gm would be reluctant to act. does it have to take a death or 2 for gm to realize that this is a serious issue and needs to be addressed. if you build a vehicle such as this and charge in excess of $50,000 , then i as the purchaser have every reason to expect that these types of issues would be resolved by using quality parts and not junk. please investigate this issue and you will find a whole lot of customers of these products who are highly upset and want something done to resolve this serious issue. thank you. *tr

First problem was the vehicle would not crank. the vehicle had to be jumped off and then it cranked quickly. while driving the vehicle, the window control, speakers and heater would go in/ out of operation. the speakers in all four doors would go out then come back on at different times. sometimes they would work all at once, other times one, two or even three may come on and off. the heater would come on blowing some times then cuts off again and again. the heater blower would also blow at one speed then blow at another speed without anyone changing the settings. the window controls will make the heater blow stronger, then when the window control is released it will cut the heater off. the rear passenger window controls will not work at all. the rear passengers also can not get out of the vehicle. the vehicle has to be open from the outside for individuals sitting in the second row seats. the only control that will work the rear passenger windows is the driver side control. the vehicle also has a light smoke smell coming from the vents. the passenger side door in the front will open for the passenger sometimes then at other times someone will have to open the door from the outside. the vehicle will not crank back up after been cut off, it always has to be jumped off. the battery is drained everytime the vehicle is sitting down and not being operated. the vehicle was taken to the dealership numerous times without being fixed. gm corporation was called and i was informed a recall was on some vehicles but not others. i was told that my vehicle was not listed as one thou. the dealership checked my vehicle and informed me that my vehicle didn't have any issues but then on a second request they informed me that my vehicle had a bad battery and was having firing trouble. they also informed me that i was not covered by my warranty. *tr

While driving the vehicle, the stopped blowing and then begin to start blowing about 20minutes later. the vehicle also begin to smell of smoke at one point. the control buttons for the rear passenger windows stop working. the speakers begin to go in/ out of play and the rear windows would only work from the driver's door control. the window button then begin to control the level that the hat would blow at. door controls stop working for some doors at a stop and the door would only open from the outside. after starting the vehicle, the door would then begin to work again. electrical controls for the child proof were inoperable for backseat passengers. speakers going in/ out of play while driving and the heater blower also going in/ out of working condition. window control would make the speakers come on/ off at times. battery would be drain from electrical problems and need a jump-off to begin back working. battery, starter and alternator checks at dealership were perform with no problems noted but vehicle would still do unfamiliar things such as heater blower, speakers and control switches performing at their own times. heater voltage draining the battery and also causing electrical problems. vehicle will not perform as expected due to malfunctions of electrical modules and unknown control modules affecting the heater, speakers, windows and doors. *tr

After vacating the car through the front driver's side door, the electric door locks on the rear doors did not operate while my grandchildren were in the tahoe. the doors would not unlock either with the fob or the electric switch in the tahoe. this incident was very scary and could have been serious. fortunately, i was able to reenter the tahoe through driver's door, start the car, lower the rear windows, manually unlock the doors, and remove my grandchildren. had this been an emergency, serious problems could have occurred. as a result of this problem, which has recurred many times, i am not willing to drive with my grandchildren in the tahoe, unless an adult is available to accompany them in the rear seat. *tr

5/31/2011 driver door lock actuator failed, door would and alarm would not set. fixed under warranty. rear left and front right failed within a year. both were replaced at no charge out of warranty at 45000 miles, approx. october 23 2012, rear right lock actuator failed. not sure how long it was not working, but the vehicle was parked and driven with the door unlocked, unknown to me. i find this to be a very unsafe condition, and with the number of complaints on this issue i'm surprised no injuries have been reported. thefts, kids opening moving vehicle door, carjacking are all things that come to mind. why is there no recall? clearly a safety issue, and not isolated to just a few vehicles. *tr

 1. door locks failed. have been replaced multiple times. as a result, my 7 week old baby got locked in the car in 100 degree weather in august. it continues to be an issue and often i have to resort in climbing through the back tailgate. 2. stabilitrack and traction control lights flash. sometimes after these lights flash, my vehicle will go into reduced power mode on its on which is very dangerous going 65 mph or pulling out from somewhere. 3.my wipers work when they want to...ever since the two recalls chevrolet released, the work intermittently when they want to. 4. major electrical issues with these vehicles....i have replaced the battery four times and something continues to drain it.

2008 chevrolet tahoe 4x4 v8 5.3l, check air bag light came on during a routine drive and no bags deployed. checked with dealer and they wanted $300 to clear fault code b0083 for a front sensor. looked online and many other gm vehicles have had similar issues with this safety related device. since it is of safety concern and there has never been an accident with the vehicle i would like the nhtsa to investigate gm airbag sensor component failures of vehicles with less than 150k miles. *tr

The power door locks do not work. you have to manually lock them. they are suppose to automaticaly lock when the vehicle reaches 5 miles an hour for safety and they do not. one door lock was replaced under warrenty without my knowledge but now the other 3 are not working properly. the mechanic said that this has been a known problem with the tahoes. it is over $200.00 per door to replace. this vehicle is not even 5 years old and is under 30,000 miles.

I bought this vechicle as a used car in june 2010. before i left the dealership with the car i had to request that one door lock be fixed because it was not locking automatically. that door was fixed (driver side back door). since then i am having trouble with the passenger side rear door and the driver door not locking on a consistent basis. the driver door seems to lock and unlock correctly part of the time when the weather is cool; however, in the afternoons and during hot weather, the door very seldom responds to the automatic locking/unlocking. after reviewing this website, it is apparent that this make and model of vehicle has been reported to have consistent problems with the locking system that the manufacturer has not been required to address at their expense. consumer safety laws should apply to locking systems that do not function properly. a known safety hazard is unlocked doors during impacts. since this vehicle is problematic in this regard, the manufacturer should be responsible for not only providing improved parts but, also, for replacing those parts at the manufacturer's expense. *tr

Hi i purchase 2008 chevy tahoe brand new. how i called last year to gm support as for this my door lock problem. they told me we will take care of this just take it to nearest dealer which was 220 miles away from where i live. ( and i was told they will take care of it. ) support dept got me an appointment set everything up. i drove in to dealership they look at all my complains. and got me quote for all the repair needs to be perform. door lock problem is a know issue to gm i am not the only one who's affected. but dealership told us. that gm would not pay for repair. how would you feel drive 220 miles and get quote in your okay it's going to be $480 per door to fixed. my question if was not going to take care of this repair why would send me to dealership to have fixed.that trip cost me over 300 bucks not to mention all of the frustration involved. wasted my 1 1/2 days. i have been watching people complaining on edmunds and gm is answering emails. but none of them is getting any help, if gm is not going to stand behind of their product why would respond to emails. this is not done. i happened 2 months after warranty was expired. i bought my truck when gm was in trouble. i dont think that these giant company's care. that does tells me one thing stay away from gm. i would own another gm product in future or ever and pass on this to others. one thing i would like point is that. this door lock problem gm should look into little too closely. this is safety issue. it should recalled and have it fixed immediately without any further delays. thanks

The passenger door would not lock or unlock, with the remote or by using the drivers door, nor would it lock when putting the vehicle into gear. this is the second time this has happened. so now if you think you are safe, your are not. they put onstar in your vehicle to keep you safe how does that help if you are hi-jacked at gun point? you thought all doors locked when you put it in gear all but the one door that failed because of a poor design. or your child falls our of the vehicle while going down the freeway and because the lock failed due to poor design. please help us with these poor designs on chevy vehicles. i have had nothing but problems with this vehicle. clunking noises starting now when i turn corners. dealership states that is normal. omg! are they insane? i know that is not normal because it was making that noise when i purchased it. everything starts going right at the time of the warranty ends. poor window designs the windows are so loose they could possibly fall out when going down the highway.

I have owned this tahoe for about 6 months now and i am going to replace the second door lock actutor now. i have done some research and this seems to be a chronic problem. this really is a safety issue for several reasons. when the first one failed it was the drivers front door, it failed in an unlocked position. thats great, we could still open the door. but so could a carjacker! we drove this way for a month before we found that the drivers door didn't lock. now we are having a similar problem, but now it is the passanger rear door. it is intermittent in it's occurance but it is consistently in the locked position, i am going to replace this now since we know about it, but if we have an accident and one has failed in the locked position and we dont know about it. we will be unable to get our children out in a timely manner. i really think this should be addressed.

While driving on the interstate all of the dash board instruments lost power, the door locks actuated as rapidly as possible, the four wheel drive engaged, and the engine temporarily lost power, & all the dome lights came on. the entire episode lasted aproximately five seconds outside of the four wheel drive would not go back into two wheel until the vehicle was shut off and the ignition turned on. this type of scenario has occurred now four times. at one point the vehicle locked itself while shut off with our two year old child in the car stuck in his car seat. the vehicle is going in tomorrow for the fourth time and the mechanics have not been able to replicate the problem. the most recent event was preceded by the rear door refusing to open prior to departure, the headlights flickering, the radio panel shutting off, and when the headlights were switched from dim to bright the door locks again actuated at a high rate, the entire instrument fell dead, the engine briefly lost power & the air bag lights went on and off for about twenty seconds. once the major failure happened the radio and instrument panel would go dead about every five minutes. once we reached our destination i shut the car off and went to start it the next day and it had simular problems.

While the vehicle is in motion, the door locks begin to cycle (up and down), the clock resets itself to twelve, static runs through the radio, the console lights (lighting, engine ck, stabilty control) flicker on and off and the transmission downshifts at will. the effect on the transmission is of particular concern because at highway speeds the vehicle abruptly slows down causing a potential hazard for the driver, its occupants, and others. once the vehicle ignition is turned off, all power inside, dome lights, radio, etc turn off and the vehicle will not restart until the battery cable is moved back and forth and a connection is reestablished. this is the second time i have taken the vehicle to the dealer and they have been unable to replicate the malfunction.

The passenger side factory installed trailer wiring harness is defective because it is pushed in under and to the rear of the spare tire. accident - comming onto highway 152 with a trailer, which is a left lane entry onto a two lane headed east. everything inside was working; passenger side signal was indicating properly, but unknown to me the signal was not working on the trailer. as i moved over to the outside lane to give faster vehicles room to pass in the fast lane (left) the car behind me did not see my signal (because it was not working on the trailer, but was on the tahoe) and had to slam on his breaks and skided darn near into me. this is really dangereous and is a flaw in the manner in which the wiring harness is squeezed into the tiny space at the rear of the spare tire. i traced all the wiring and it is in the harness since i could not get a current flow reading from the connector/tit that is for the passenger side signal and stop lights. yes, i did check the fuse and it is fully functional. i full expect to hear from you since i cannot find a satisfactory place to call chevrolet; all they want to do is sell you another vehicle. thanks

The auto door locks went out on my 2008 chevy tahoe lt just after 36,000 miles. the dealer wants to charge me $500 to fix it. there appears to be many gm vehicles with this same problem. this is a safety issue with children in the vehicle. a recall needs to be issued on the auto door locks.

Latches/locks/linkages complaint. three of the four door locks cannot be automatically opened or closed either from the inside or outside of the suv . could pose a safety problem if trapped inside of the car. estimated cost to repair $180.00 per door.

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet tahoe. the contact stated that he received a recall notice for recall 10v240000 (electrical system). the contact stated that the remedy, which was to disconnect heated washer fluid module, was a safety concern because in his state, there were icy conditions and the heated wiper fluid was necessary. the contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. the current mileage was 31,481. the failure mileage was approximately 31,200-bk

Tl- the contact 2008 chevrolet tahoe. the contact was driving about 30 mph on june 5 , on a clear day, she smelled fire, she noticed smoke coming out of the general console area, she look into the area where you plug in cigarette lighter or cell phone and saw flames, she pulled to the side of the road, and blew on the flames to try to put the fire out. it wouldn't go out, she called 911 , she was near a gas station so she ran over there and got a fire extinguisher, ran back to the vehicle, open the door and attempted to put the fire out, at that point the fire engine pulled up and they took over putting out the fire. a report was done by the fire department. police came also, but they didn't do a report. the vehicle was towed to a& b body shop. the insurance company will go out to look at the vehicle on 6/10/2010. at this time no one knows exactly what caused this fire. the failure and current mileage was 40,000.dwh

I took my 2008 tahoe in for a dead battery it's been 4 months in were on the 5th battery every time i get into my tahoe i don't know if it's going to start. on the last one it was scary i was driving on the highway at about 70 mph when the stability trac light came on and then my car shut down pulled over to the side and the car was dead had it towed to the dealer and the car started with no problem, i refuse to take the car and i called gm tech support and they took over my case with the dealer directly after 8 days at the dealer the gm tech calls me and said there was a bulletin tac #11062498 to replace all battery cables on the car, positive & negative battery cables, starter cables, alternators cables, and cables that go to the main fuse block. i've had my car back now for 1 week and so far it starting good. if my problem still continues to occur i will have no chose but to file for lemon law. *tr

All of the indicators in the instrument cluster sometimes read '0' upon initial startup. sometimes by turning the ignition off, withdrawing the key, and open/close the door then restarting the vehicle the problem corrects itself. however this procedure may be repeated up to 15 times before problem is corrected or, more often, it isn't corrected. *tr

Turn vehicle ignition off take the key out of the ignition, open the driver door to get outi get a few dings like i have left the key in the ignition. i close the driver door, the lights flash, horn honks and doors then lock. i have done nothing to make this happen. it is an intermittent problem. the two local chevy dealers cannot make it repeat this issue and because there are no codes that come up, they tell me they can't fix it. the second issue is my turn signals. i turn on a turn signal, it shows up green, it does not click at random times. third issue, windshield wipers turn on with the fluids when i have the switch in the off position. i touch nothing. i have asked the dealer if they have seen any of these issues and they said they have ran the service bulletins and cannot find anything. so i have a $50k vehicle that has electrical issues that they do not want to look into because they cannot find a code. *tr
