On tuesday, august 9, 2011, as i moved over to pass a car on the left on a 2-lane highway, the accelerator in my 2010 chevrolet tahoe began accelerating at a very fast rate on its own and stuck . i hit the brakes several times, but it did not unstick and kept accelerating. i am not certain to what exact speed the car reached during this time, but i believe it was in excess of 80 mph. shifting the car to neutral backed it off. after putting it back in drive and punching the accelerator 3-4 times with my foot, the car unstuck and speed reduced; not certain if my action unstuck it but at this point the speed reduced. needless to say, i was extremely scared and it was an extremely unsafe situation. van horn chevrolet in plymouth, wisconsin, confirmed a day later that diagnostics showed a fault code and the sensor was faulty, and the sensor was subsequently replaced. the repair invoice states replaced accelerator pedal position sensor.
