Dt*: the contact stated while traveling 20 mph on a dry flat road, the vehicle suddenly accelerated to 50 mph without warning. the brakes were fully applied and did not stop the vehicle. it drove through a red light, up an embankment, onto a convenience store parking lot and crashed into propane tanks that were on display in front of a store. both front air bags deployed, and the driver sustained injuries to the face, lips, legs and abdomen. the seat belts worked properly and a police report was taken. the police impounded the vehicle for further investigation. on 09/29/06, the dealer was notified and suggested that the manufacturer be contacted. the manufacturer was contacted and an incident report was taken, along with expressing to the contact that an insurance department would call with questions. the contact noticed on the internet that there were 4 other similar incidents and that there was a recall for another model that carried the same components as the contact's vehicle. updated 10/17/2006 - *nm

I applied my brakes to stop my tracker, but the accelerator stuck at the speed i was going. i pushed the brakes, i couldn't get them to work full force. the tracker was accelerating and just slightly braking ,both at the same time. i got the tracker to a full stop just before i entered a cross road to a highway.... not funny.... fix it, be fore some one is killed. i saw four other complaints refering to a similar proplems. i had the veh. in the shop and they could find nothing. something 'is' wrong. c.s. c.s.
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL - CABLES

Driver stepped on accelerator, accelerator stuck, vehicle struck a parked vehicle, driver passed out. when driver awoke, she found she had struck eight parked vehicles and a pedestrian. no citations were issued, no drugs/alcohol, foul play or negligence was found to be the cause of the accident. a recall has been issued for the suzuki vitara (#03v51200) which is the sister vehicle to the tracker (same assembly line/parts.) i do not understand why the tracker - this failure occurred exactly as the recall information described under consequence. nhtsa personnel told me they did not know why chevrolet has not recalled the trackers, and suggested i call chevrolet and ask. i urge anyone else with a tracker (1999-2003) who has had a similar problem with the gas pedal sticking to file a complaint...nhtsa said one complaint will not generate an investigation, but that several complaints might. so far, only one tracker owner has filed a complaint (#10056284) this accident could have resulted in far worse than 9 wrecked vehicles (the tracker will likely be totaled), an injured pedestrian and an injured driver!!!!!! *jb

I am quite concerned that a recall was issued (# 03v512000) for a faulty accelerator cable on the suzuki models of vitara, grand vitara and the xl-7 and not the chevrolet tracker. it is built and assembled with the identical parts at the same factory on the same assembly line. at this time i am driving around with a potentially dangerous defect in my 2003 chevrolet tracker and nhtsa did not have the fore sight to afford me through recall, the same replacement for this identical part along with thousands of other 1999-2003 chevrolet tracker owners. *jb
