Bought used from a dealer. had for 2 days when had first prob that was fixed got back after a week. ran great. drove for 1 day and ran good, stopped at a stop sign and went to pull onto main highway and wouldn't move forward. backed up fine but no forward. i finally got it to crawl forward. after a lil while it kicked back in and ran fine til i stopped again. finally i made it home and parked it. after they finally came and towed it and fixed it i had it and drove it for 1 day and had same problem. after it sat for a while it did go again. pulled into driveway and parked it. still waiting for it to be towed and fixed again and hopefully right this time. i have researched this problem and found it happens a lot. sounds like it might be the fan clutch or sun shell spline. not sure yet though. called mechanic that dealer had fix it and they only changed a valve in tranny they thought was bad. said they have about 3 more of them to check before they replace whole tranny. i hope more people research these vehicles and don't buy them.

This vehicle was purchased new in jun 2003. while still under warranty, various recalls were issued for steering, brake lights and rear hatch locking/handle assembly. since then, the vehicle has been a lemon. power steering pump replaced twice (first one i paid for, second independent and very reliable mechanic shop paid). next the engine cooling fan bearing had to be replaced. later, the transmission had to be rebuilt. i also had to get the computer checked and reset to avoid surging engine rpm and resultant speed deviations. reaching a point of frustration as never before, i wrote gm asking for consideration repairing the transmission and received no response. i know they received the email since i had a receipt requested feature activated in my office computer. i sent a second email stating i was aware of the email receipt and that i expected a response. no such luck. all these problems manifested themselves well before the 100,000 miles were reached. now at approximately 132,000 miles, i had to replace the exhaust manifold due to a crack, the vehicle has lost power on two occasions, the entire dashboard has gone to zero and back to normal several times and the latest is an engine noise that my very reliable, 6 year auto service provider has told be is related to the timing belt assembly/mount points and as it gets louder, the engine will be getting ready to fail. so, i read all these complaints today and felt like i could have summarized everyone's complaints and concerns. i am an accident investigator and have no doubt that this vehicle will go down in history as one of the most unreliable and dangerous cars ever built. shame the feds have not taken the extra steps to remedy the issues after so many complaints yet, they went after top selling toyota at a time when the american made cars were barely able to stay afloat. wonder?

In july 2010 my trailblazers clutch fan and thermostat went out. i was able to diagnose the problem by the number of complaints filed on this model that were on the internet. then in october my tachometer started acting up, it broke november 24, 2010. the speedometer broke on december 3, 2010. i have found many complaints on the clutch fan going out and the cluster going out on the internet. someone at work had a problem with their envoy and it was the thermostat and their clutch fan going out. all at fairly low mileage. i am very disappointed in gm for not wanting to repair these issues so the consumer bears the costs of repair which is about 500 for the clutch fan and thermostat and 400 for the cluster.

2003 chevrolet trailblazer speedometer failed *gr the speedometer would register as high as 120 mph. the vehicle was inspected and it was determined there was an internal malfunction on the instrument cluster. the consumer was informed it would cost $550 for a replacement cluster. the rear passenger taillight and passenger side head light burned out and was replaced. the water pump and serpentine belt were replaced. the mechanic noted a broken bolt in the water pump that held down the housing and the ball joints were replaced. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving approximately 10 to 15 mph, the driver traveled over a railroad track and the engine stalled unexpectedly. there were no warning light indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact made several unsuccessful attempts to restart the engine and observed that the empty fuel indicator was displayed on the fuel gauge. when the engine restarted, the fuel gauge displayed the accurate reading. the vehicle was able to resume normal operation. the contact has concerns of the significant safety risk. the vin was rejected from the system. the failure mileage was 71,200. the current mileage was 71,220.

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the vehicle loses power, but does not stall. the failure has been occurring for a couple of weeks. the failure has nearly caused a crash on two occasions. the dealer stated that all the coils and plugs were defective due to the gasket leaking water and causing them to crack. the only work performed on the vehicle was for the brakes and spark plugs in 2008. the current and failure mileages were 92,000.

While driving from work i stopped at a red light and the trailblazers rpm dropped down and the truck shut off in traffic. but all the lights were on. i had to restart the truck and it crank up. three weeks later i was pulling up to a gas station and pressed on the brakes to stop and the truck cut off (same experience). yesterday i was driving in 5 o'clock traffic and pressed on the brakes and it shut off again. *tr

Water has been seen several times dripping from underneath the truck in the center area. it appears to be from the emissions system. no wet weather at the time. it appears to be some sort of condensation. also fan clutch failure, sway bar linkages failure, tie-rod failure, rack and pinion failure/leak, control arm failures 2 times, windshield wiper would not turn off failure, windshield wiper reservoir tank leak replaced, ac cold air failure. all needed to be replaced on a vehicle less than 5 years old with only 38,000 miles on it. *tr

2003 chevy trailblazer with 34100 miles service engines light comes on, i take it to the dealer who fixes it and recommend i have the transmission and another regular maintenance completed that cost me over 400.00 dollars. two weeks later i have to take it back becasue the speedometer went past 115 miles while sitting still, a week later the transmission starts stalling while going forward and the engine fan is running constantly even on start up. checked the fluid i had none in the transmission. yet it was suppose to have been filled when maintenance was done. took it back to the dealer it is no longer under warranty and just under a hundred miles later my 2003 chevy trailblazer which is 3 years old. there is a problem with the transmission in the chevy trailblazer and i am not the only one experiencing this. something needs to be done. help. *nm

Heard lots of noises. at 51,225 mostly highway miles found vehicle needed: (1) differential cover gasket (2) pinion shaft seal (3) extension housing seal (4) thermal fan clutch cost: $1,800 left alone, failed seals and gasket will cause complete transmission failure, failed fan clutch will cause engine seizing, fire. *nm

I have a 03 tb 2wd i have noticed recently that it is not changing gears properly. the service engine light came on and the problem appeared three more times. then the light went off and the problem went away. i took it to the dealer and they hooked it up to the machine and all they could find wrong was my o2 sensor. they said i needed to replace the gas sensor. this has nothing to do with the transmission.(this is what they said) they told me that they were not worried about it. i told them i was about to drive the car on a trip 1,000 miles one way. no problems they said. i called and questioned the dealership and he acted very surprised by this. says he hasn't seen a problem with the transmission. one of my co-workers daughter also has a trailblazer and hers has started to act up as well, and guess what it is the same thing as mine. i went on this web site and found out that this is a common problem with the tb. is there anything that can be done about this madness? http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.ef15323/65. *nm

I have had the exact problems as stated in 10047425. windshield wipers went out completely on a rainy day, module replaced, a/c broke on a hot day-fixed, power steering assist stopped working completely making driving the vehicle nearly impossible, vehicle started on reserve power when temp hit -6 degrees, heater motor stopped working completely the next day -10 degrees. basically this vehicle doesn't like changes in weather. *ak

When it is cold outside and the engine is started it knocks and ticks until warmed up. gm customer service will offer additional miles on the warranty but no additional time. the dealers will not fix the problem. gm says it is a piston problem. this problem happens every day below 50 degrees. that is 8 months of the year in michigan. the truck is embarrassingly loud. sounds like it is 20 years old. it is only 5 months old.*ak

The fan clutch on my 2003 chevrolet trailblazer has failed for a second time. first failure at 81000 miles and failure of dealer installed replacement at 115000. the failure results in a loss of acceleration ability, the noise level is a considerable distraction to myself and other drivers, and the pending failure of the cooling system could lead to unsafe roadside conditions. *tr

Since i purchased my 2003 chevy trailblazer in jan 2004, i had it returned twice complaining of a ticking sound from the engine. local dealer would not address the issue as the noise would come a go..i issued a complaint to the dealer and they got upset but never volunterred to fix the noise.. last month a loud noise came from my engine, like a vacuum sound.. i lost power and was forced to leave the truck at a gm dealership.. they fixed made repairs by replacing the clutch pump. cots me 900.00 for repairs. now 3 weeks later i noticed that the ticking sound from the engine has disappeared.... if the chevy dealer only addressed this problem a few years ago when i originally complained , i may not had to dish out 900 for repairs.. thank you chevy! and you wonder why your going out of business.! good riddins! *tr

I have a high revving sound when my vehicle is about to take off (it only happens on take off, first gear). then it will go away after it shifts into second gear. i have taken it into the dealer ship to get looked at and they could not do anything because it was not happening at the time. i was fine with that. two weeks later it starts doing it again and i take it in 2 days after it started doing it again. the day before i take it in the service engine soon light comes on. keep in mind the noise has always happened before the light came on.

For approx. 2 years there had been a constant ticking when my 2003 chevrolet trailblazer was running. questions about the noise was dismissed by the service technicians as normal. finally on 3/22/08 my fan clutch failed causing an overheat problem and a constant loud noise, along with a service engine light. upon investigating this issue i found literally thousands of complaints on the internet regarding the chevrolet trailblazer and its premature fan clutch failures. to correct the failure i had to incur the $724.00 repair. *tr

I bought my 2003 trailblazer 4x4 in july 06 and had to replace the airbag module 1 month later (54,000mi on odometer) for $350.00. that was at half price because i had a 50/50 warranty luckily. now late in september my fan is on every time i start my engine, hot or cold. like everyone else with my vehicle make and year states that it sounds like a jet plane and turns off a couple off miles down the road and then eventually fails later. gm needs to pay my out-of-pocket expense for my airbag module and fix my fan clutch issue before it fails completely, leaving me stranded somewhere in an unsafe environment. i always keep up to date on my vehicles to make sure i get the most out of them and do not expect random parts to fail prematurely. i'll be ?!@#$% if i am going to pay $600-$1000 to have this fixed after it fully fails to work. *tr

My truck has been driving average, with prior issues of the truck sounding like it is struggling to accelerate. this weekend, it began sounding like it is struggling to accelerate. because of this, i had to drive below the speed limit for over 50 miles for fear of my truck blowing up. after taking my truck to the dealership, the problem is the fan clutch. after going online, i observed that there are thousands of people who have had the same issue with trailblazers from 2002-2007. but to no avail, i cannot find any recalls from chevrolet about their many faulty parts. i am supposed to pay $900 to repair something that should be recalled from chevy? where is the justice? i am a family member of 3 generations of gm employees, and i am truly disappointed in chevrolet. *jb

I brought my 2003 trailblazer in for service to my gm dealer while still under warranty for a ticking noise. the noise is intermittent and the periodic rate is constant regardless of engine speed rpm's. i now have 50k miles and the fan clutch motor failed and operated at 100%.through research online, the ticking sound is directly related to the fan clutch failure many gm trailblazer and envoy owners have experienced. the fan operates at 100% due to the fan clutch failing resulting in loss of power. i too have experienced what is described by many as the lear jet sound. the sudden loss of power at high speeds in my opinion is as safety concern and gm should recall this defective fan clutch motor. customers with my 2002 and above have complained on several websites on this issue.

Ev cooling fan runs at a high rate of speed and does not disengage for serveral minutes while driving. the vehicle does not shift properly during this period of time. since i am unable to get up to highway speeds, i feel i am a safety hazard to other drivers that must slow down until they can pass or i get up to proper highway speeds. i will be replacing this component at the dealer they gave me the following estimate: part cost $350 and labor cost $300. i will be asking for the old component. this problem began occuring without any warning. one morning it just began operating at a high rate when i started my vehicle and as stated, continued for serveral minutes.

I am filing a complaint .and will continue to file complaints until all of the consumers issues have been addressed. i understand that gm is not willing to hold theirselfs liable for these issues ,but people spend pretty pennies out of pocket to purchase vehicles from these manufacturers to spend more money to pay for repairs after just a short while of owning these . i have researched issues i am having with my vehicle , and i am having all the above listed issues , and do not wish to spend large amounts of money to pay for these cost considering i am still paying for this vehicle . i just spoke with a representive about these complaints ,and have set up an appoinment to pay a dealership for diagnostics , but am hoping that i can get closure on these issues without paying big expenses. i hope everyone else will follow suit and keep inputting your complaints until they are resolved. my vehicle issues are the fan clutch needs replaced, my gas tank has been replaced already, just replaced my serpintine belt this morning, my exterior lights (brake/turn signal) have been replaced 3 times over two months, and engine light keeps coming on , something doesnt seem right underneath this vehicle either. i just feel like i am paying for a peice of junk on top of paying to keep the vehicle running. oh yea this vehicle has had to have thousands of dollars of body work done as well thanks to mother nature. i just hope they will be responsible enough to take on this responsibilty of theirs ,not ours.

My 2003 trailblazer ls engine has stalled and completely died while i've been driving it numerous times. the first time was on 9/8/06 and i was slowing down at a stop light, about 35 miles an hour, the engine just died, and i had traffic behind me and was nearly rear ended. i finally got it restarted after turning off the ac and got it off the road, towed to dealer and they could not find anything wrong after 2 days. i got it back from the dealer and it proceeded to die on me on 4 separate days, each time when slowing down and with the a/c on. i've so far been able to get out of the way of oncoming cars and get it restarted, but refuse to drive it on the interstate for fear of being rear ended. i took it to the dealer again on 9/18/2006 and they kept it for 3 days while i paid for a rental and could not find anything wrong with it. all they did was drive it around a few miles and tell me they couldn't get it to fail. on the way home from the dealership, it failed on me again. i've researched on the internet and this seems to be happening with a number of 2003 trailblazers, i can't believe chevy doesn't know what is wrong. *nm

Subject:reduced power problem with trailblazer comments: i have a two year old chevy trailblazer that has on three occasions had a dramatic loss of power and a reduced engine power light comes on and loses all acceleration. twice this happened while i was on the highway, and i feared for my safety and the safety of my toddler, as my car slowed from 65 mph to 40 mph in a matter of seconds, and would not accelerate. according to the dealership, there is a problem with an electronic sensor to the accelerator. i have tried to raise this with chevrolet customer service, who blatantly disregarded my safety concerns and told me that my concerns would go no further up than the customer service desk level and they could offer me no assistance. based on my research, this is a documented manufacturing defect, however, gm refuses to recall any cars and claims that the bulletin documenting the problem only serves to assist dealers in the repair. i am concerned for the safety of all trailblazer owners, and believe that chevy and gm need to be investigated for ignoring this dangerous safety issue. from nhtsa web site. *nm

My 11-month old 2003 chevrolet trailblazer has had multiple quality problems, twice affecting my safety. most of the problems have been electrical in nature. the 4wd has become inoperable numerous times, once while driving in snow. in another incident during a severe thunderstorm at night the air conditioner (a/c) failed and i was unable to defrost my windshield in order to see. after one dealer failed to diagnose the 4wd problem, another dealer replaced my ignition switch because the technician said i had no power at all going to the rear grid. i continue to have intermittent electrical problems, including near stalling at a traffic light, and ongoing 4wd failures. the car also has very jerky motion when in 4wd reverse, of course, when the 4wd is working at all. the dealer told me that was normal and now i see there is a service bulletin on the problem. *la

Poor performance from engine causing the vehicle to not perform in a normal manner while driving. intermittent no start problems, extremely poor fuel economy st times, excessive noise usually at start up. very rough idle at times and very poor acceleration at times. this was experienced by the service manager at crowley buick/olds during an oil change. the problem causes a safety issue as the vehicle does not accelerate normally. gm has offered me an extended warranty after i was told a year ago that the vehicle was operating normally by a gm factory rep who looked at the vehicle. for the past year my wife has driven a vehicle with my 2 boys that does not operate properly. i have contact gm and have been told three times they would contact me. other than thank you emails i have yet to speak with someone in authority at gm.
