EXTERIOR LIGHTING - BRAKE LIGHTS
EA04021GENERAL MOTORS CORP.08/03/200411/04/2004BRAKE LAMP FAILURE04V527000
Gm states that some brake/tail lamp bulbs can prematurely become inoperative due to malfunctioning brake/tail lamp sockets.on march 2, 2004, gm initiated a 6-year/72,000 mile special policy for 989,487 subject vehicles to inspect and replace the rear brake/tail lamp bulb socket assemblies.on april 4, 2004, the office of defects investigation (odi) opened a preliminary evaluation (pe04-032) based on consumer complaints alleging brake lights not operating when the brake pedal is depressed.on august 3, 2004 odi upgraded pe04-032 to an engineering analysis (ea04-021).by letter dated october 27, 2004 gm notified nhtsa that it will conduct a safety recall (nhtsa # 04v527) covering subject vehicles that were not already repaired under gm's special policy.my 2004 subject vehicles built after august 8, 2003 contain improved brake lamp assemblies and are not included in the recall.gm dealers will install the improved brake lamp assembly on subject vehicles built on august 8, 2003 and earlier.the action taken by gm is sufficient to resolve the issues raised by this investigation.accordingly, this investigation is closed.
PE04032GENERAL MOTORS CORP.04/06/200408/03/2004BRAKE LAMP FAILURE
The office of defects investigation (odi) opened this investigation on model year (my) 2002-04 chevrolet trailblazer vehicles.gm reports that other vehicles sharing this platform and brake lamp design are the my 2002-2004 chevrolet trailblazer ext; gmc envoy, xl, xuv; oldsmobile bravada and 2004 buick rainier.complaints allege that the rear brake lamp does not operate when the brake pedal is depressed.there is no indication to the driver from inside the vehicle that one or more brake lamps bulbs are not functioning.gm found that heat from the bulb could deform the lamp socket, produce electrical arcing and an inoperative bulb.to correct the condition, gm changed the bulb to a bulb that transmits less heat to the socket and changed the socket to a thermoplastic polymer to improve thermal stability.these changes were implemented into production vehicles on october 1, 2003.gm implemented a special policy by notifying consumers that if they should experience a brake lamp failure to go to their gm dealership to have the circuit board containing the brake lamp replaced along with new bulbs.this policy is good for the first 6 years or 72,000 miles of the life of the vehicle.odi will upgrade this investigation to ea 04-021 and include the above mentioned vehicles.

The problem that i have with my truck is an electric problem involving the light relays, which i ad to replace several times due to them being damaged, leaving me without lights. my main concern is that i drive at night often and i am in danger when i have the lights on and off. i did research on several forums where same-vehicle-owners have experienced the same issues.

When replacing the headlight bulb, i noticed that the connection was melted. through my research i have found that this is a common problem due to the gauge of wire used in the wiring harness. the dealer says that there is not a recall. since this is a common problem that could possibly occur when driving at night and cause an accident or possibly cause a fire, i would hope that this could help initiate a recall. this is not a wear item so the mileage on my vehicle should not be in question. *tr

I am the original owner of a 2003 chevy trailblazer. when i first purchased the vehicle in the month of october/2002, i didn't experience any problems until maybe the fourth year, going on its 5th; right before the warranty was about to expire. the first problem i encountered with the vehicle was the transmission. it didn't want to change gears properly. because of the 5 year warranty, the dealership was able to fix that problem, at that time. today, i continue to experience transmission problems: with a loud noise, a struggle in horse power and a vibration when i am at a complete stop. i have spent so much money on other electrical parts as well. i have purchased over ten light bulbs for rear brake lights that continue to malfunction. i recently replaced a relay because the head lights would constantly go out after the vehicle was turned on. i replaced the fan clutch and water pump because they both went out. i also replaced a battery and two starters. for the past few months, my vehicle smells like fuel everytime i turn it on. i am asking that your department look into all of these claims. it appears that almost everyone that owes a 2003 trailblazer has been experiencing the same issues, but yet; no one is doing enough to protect all those consumers who have been grateful to this country in purchasing american made vehicles. a sincere thanks.

My husband replaced the low beam headlight on the right front of my trailblazer three different times within a few months. we then took it to a body shop and they replaced the connector. once again i'm having trouble with the right low beam. when i start the vehicle, it lights up, but once i turn on the brights and return to low beam, it refuses to come on.

Never had issue with headlights before. driving home from hospital at 9pm and low beams turned off. had to turn on emergency flashers and pull off road. tried everthing to get them to turn back on. sat there for a few minutes and they went back on. pulled onto i-95 and 4 minutes into the drive, in the fast lane, they turned back off leaving me in pitch black going 70mph. im 8 months pregnant and was alone on the side of a dark highway. gm, you know about these issues! recall this before people get seriously injured!!!

I am filing a complaint .and will continue to file complaints until all of the consumers issues have been addressed. i understand that gm is not willing to hold theirselfs liable for these issues ,but people spend pretty pennies out of pocket to purchase vehicles from these manufacturers to spend more money to pay for repairs after just a short while of owning these . i have researched issues i am having with my vehicle , and i am having all the above listed issues , and do not wish to spend large amounts of money to pay for these cost considering i am still paying for this vehicle . i just spoke with a representive about these complaints ,and have set up an appoinment to pay a dealership for diagnostics , but am hoping that i can get closure on these issues without paying big expenses. i hope everyone else will follow suit and keep inputting your complaints until they are resolved. my vehicle issues are the fan clutch needs replaced, my gas tank has been replaced already, just replaced my serpintine belt this morning, my exterior lights (brake/turn signal) have been replaced 3 times over two months, and engine light keeps coming on , something doesnt seem right underneath this vehicle either. i just feel like i am paying for a peice of junk on top of paying to keep the vehicle running. oh yea this vehicle has had to have thousands of dollars of body work done as well thanks to mother nature. i just hope they will be responsible enough to take on this responsibilty of theirs ,not ours.

I have replaced the rear passenger brake light only 9 months ago and it's once again not working. the passenger side headlight also began to not work at time as is now, not working at all. my mechanic checked out the bulbs and did some testing and discovered the problem is in the circuit board. as of today, the drivers side headlight is now out....so the truck has no headlights and only 1 brake light.

Gm failed to fix recall # 04087 nov 01, 2004 | recall id# 25264 exterior lighting:brake lights nov 01, 2004 model affected trailblazer ------------------------------- my 2003 trailblazer right brake tail lamp is inoperative and i am going to fail my annual safety inspection. checked bulbs and switched lamp board 16532713 to determine it was a faulty lamp board. determined part was on recall list in 2004. contacted dealership and they said they replaced the part. dealership, lindsey cheverolett, is unwilling to replace since they said they replaced the board in 2005 when the car was in for regular maintenance. contacted gm headquarters customer service supervisor, paula alvera, and she said i would need to pay for a certified gm mechanic to look at the problem. this is a $25 part. concerned gm has a temporary solution for this recall that only last 2-3 years. *tr

Front headlight burned out in november 2005 replaced light bulb. burnt out again went to dinsdale chevy to get replaced said that the wire was melted and burned and would have to be replaced. i asked how that could happen and they said it was probably a manufacturing defect. i asked if that means they would replace it and they said no it would cost $132 to repair. i couldn't afford that so i bought the part and had to wire it myself. *jb

Since i bought this vehicle august 30, 2002 i have had to bring it back to the dealership on numerous occasions for several different items. i have had both the left and right brake lights gone out, the driver side head lamp went out, the air conditioner has gone out twice(four months apart), the driver side passenger window is inoperable(we have tried to get it fixed for almost a month now with no success) and the engine cooling fan was warped and the fan clutch malfunctioned. at this point we don't understand why they haven't just recalled the whole vehicle. luckily we have the 36,000 mile warranty still in affect but what's going to happen when it is up and the same problems keep recurring? *la
