Bought used from a dealer. had for 2 days when had first prob that was fixed got back after a week. ran great. drove for 1 day and ran good, stopped at a stop sign and went to pull onto main highway and wouldn't move forward. backed up fine but no forward. i finally got it to crawl forward. after a lil while it kicked back in and ran fine til i stopped again. finally i made it home and parked it. after they finally came and towed it and fixed it i had it and drove it for 1 day and had same problem. after it sat for a while it did go again. pulled into driveway and parked it. still waiting for it to be towed and fixed again and hopefully right this time. i have researched this problem and found it happens a lot. sounds like it might be the fan clutch or sun shell spline. not sure yet though. called mechanic that dealer had fix it and they only changed a valve in tranny they thought was bad. said they have about 3 more of them to check before they replace whole tranny. i hope more people research these vehicles and don't buy them.

Automatic drive shift linkage disconnected due to failure of what appears to be a small plastic rivet that held the linkage components together. transmission could not be shifted out of drive, not even to neutral. could only stop car by coming to a complete stop with the brakes, turning off the ignition key, and then applying the emergency brake. called dealer and then tow truck. when the tower arrived, he looked at the make/model of the vehicle and as i described what had happened he said he knew what the problem was because he had picked up 6 of the same vehicle in the last 2-3 months for the same problem. when he checked, he was correct, the linkage had become disconnected due to a broken plastic rivet. *tr

I had gone to a friends house with my boyfriend and our 10month old daughter the car was working great on 12-31-11 at around 5pm we parked the vehicle. on our way home at about 10:45pm we got on the road car drove fine we jumped on the fwy it was foggy and really hard to see we were on the 54 fwy in san diego approaching the 805 south there is a high on ramp we were going about 55 to 60 and all of a sudden i pushed on gas and lost all power to vehicle it sounded like i was in neutral and because it was up hill and curved very difficult to see us with just hazard lights on. i was praying thinking someone was going to take us out. every car would swerving around us and honking we finally pulled over to the side of the fwy off of the ramp and turned off car turned it back on and it gave us enough power to get to the street exit. once there again did the same and at that point we parked and left car on the side of the road after calling a friend to pick us up since we didn't want our baby out on the street that late and on new years. i have also had several other problems ac only works on 5 back passenger panel makes clicking noise when on and back ac works when it wants to. also rpm gauge doesn't function, car alarm is very faint when place on. i have 3 other children and 1 car and now don't know what to do since we depend on the car. we have had small problems with this car and about 5 to 6 months ago my car engine started knocking and had to be replaced however ac already wasn't working and neither was the rpm gauge. when we replaced the engine the car ran great had a lot of power and everything. this was the worst experience of my life and i thought we were going to die.

Tl-the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet trailblazer ltz. while driving approximate 5-10 mph the service all wheel drive light came on. he turned the dial down one two high. the lights stayed on all wheel drive. he drove the vehicle to the dealer and the dealer advised him that the 4x4 actuator needed replacing. the contact stated he had a extended warranty and the claim adjustor for the extended warranty stated that just the sensor in the 4x4 actuator needed replacing. the dealer does not agree with the claim adjuster because it would be unsafe to put the vehicle on the road just replacing the sensor. the approximate failure and current mileage were 67,064. vwb

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated while driving at speeds of 50 mph, there was an unusual grinding coming from the front end of the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where the front differential was replaced. the failure recurred within five months after repairs. the dealer advised the failure was due to the tires. the dealer would not make repairs under the vehicle warranty, stating the contact voided the warranty by installing used tires on the vehicle. the manufacturer was in agreement with the dealer. the failure mileage was 92,000 and the current mileage was 100,000.

The 4wd does not work on the vehicle. this has happened numerous times since i have purchased the vehicle. the 4wd will all of sudden just stop working for no apparent reason, then will work again. the indicator says the vehicle is in 4wd, but the front tires are not locked in and acts as if it is in 2wd. the vehicle goes long periods of time with the 4wd working, then the 4wd just stops functioning. this, in my opinion, is extremely hazardous and is going to cause an accident. just this weekend i was in a very hilly area and we received some snow, my 4wd decided not to work and i was very nearly stuck several times. not to mention, causing a traffic hazard because my vehicle spun out at every intersection because i have no traction. i have taken the vehicle into the dealer and they insist nothing is wrong. i get the vehicle home and the 4wd still does not work. after doing some research on the internet a lot of consumers have this same problem. gm needs to recall their faulty 4wd system. these vehicles are an accident waiting to happen. *tr

2003 chevy trailblazer. transfer case needed to be replaced in 2006, @ 32,000 miles under warranty. transfer case needs to be replaced again 2009 @ 66,000 miles, warranty period over ,now its $2200.00 out my pocket. after researching this is a well known problem with these transfer cases. the bearing installed can not handle it. apparently gm has recently updated the bearing. gm will not recall these transfer cases. other gm vehicles have related issues with the transfer case. *tr

I purchased a 2003 chevy trailblazer lt ext (4 miles on the odometer) on september 9, 2003 from fisher bros. chevrolet in mahopac, ny. i had the truck for exactly two weeks and started have acceleration problems. i would stop at a traffic light or stop sign or even behind a stopping school bus and the car would not move when stepping on the gas pedal. i brought the car in for service on september 23, 2003 and they had it for service until september 30, 2003. they said it was the transmission and they found out from chevy that a bulletin with this problem had not yet been released. they ordered the parts and gave me back the car on 9/30/03. i drove it for less than 24 hours and it happened again. i brought the car back for service on 10/2/03. this time they claimed it was electrical - again relating to the transmission. the fixed a few values and things. had the car in from 10/2/03 to 10/7/03. got the car home for again less than 24 hours and it happened again. brought the car back on 10/9/03 (2021miles on the odometer) and the car has been there ever since. when i last spoke to the service manager they said they had to put a whole new transmission in the car. i thought a brand new car would already have a "new transmission". they ordered a 2004 transmission to put into the car. this was the last i heard on 10/14/03.

I am filing a complaint .and will continue to file complaints until all of the consumers issues have been addressed. i understand that gm is not willing to hold theirselfs liable for these issues ,but people spend pretty pennies out of pocket to purchase vehicles from these manufacturers to spend more money to pay for repairs after just a short while of owning these . i have researched issues i am having with my vehicle , and i am having all the above listed issues , and do not wish to spend large amounts of money to pay for these cost considering i am still paying for this vehicle . i just spoke with a representive about these complaints ,and have set up an appoinment to pay a dealership for diagnostics , but am hoping that i can get closure on these issues without paying big expenses. i hope everyone else will follow suit and keep inputting your complaints until they are resolved. my vehicle issues are the fan clutch needs replaced, my gas tank has been replaced already, just replaced my serpintine belt this morning, my exterior lights (brake/turn signal) have been replaced 3 times over two months, and engine light keeps coming on , something doesnt seem right underneath this vehicle either. i just feel like i am paying for a peice of junk on top of paying to keep the vehicle running. oh yea this vehicle has had to have thousands of dollars of body work done as well thanks to mother nature. i just hope they will be responsible enough to take on this responsibilty of theirs ,not ours.

Purchased a new 2003 chevy trailblazer and 3 days later delivery the check 4wd light came on for service.we were in maine at the time and had it looked at by a chevy dealer there & they assumed it was an electrical malfunctionwith a code so all they did was reset the computer (or s we were told) a few days later the transmission downshifted hard. the dealer recommended that we drive it awhile. it did the same noise on & off for a few months & they still couldn't find anything wrong. much later on after my frustration with the dealership. i started to get a loud clunking sound in the front end noticeably on the right side of the vehicle. dealer said it was the plastic cowling in the front that was rattling. after taking it to an independent repair shop they discovered that the transmission end bearing out of the front axel is n/g & it needs to be rebuilt. this is not acceptable, especially after all the complaints of this transmission on the gm trucks. why has there not been a recall on this is beyond me. *tr

I bought a used 2003 chevy trailblazer 2 months ago, now i' having over $1500 worth of transmission work done to it! after coming downhill on a busy highway, as i started up, a noise came from under my feet. i lost power and every time i gave it gas, that noise returned. almost ran over by the heavy traffic speeding down the hill, was finally able to pull onto the dangerous shoulder. shop said shell broke apart and went into trans. shop said he has made a good living on these transmissions!!!...and replaces them with a much better, thicker, stronger spline in them. who has to get killed before they switch over to these better aftermarket pieces? *tr

Well maintained 2003 trailblazer transmission had to be replaced due to 80,000 mileage. therefore, a defective design must have lead to this occurrence. we paid over $3,000 for a gm rebuilt transmission with a 3 year and 100,000 mile warranty. thus with this type of warranty, the manufacturer must have been aware the initial product was defective. *jb

Complaint received via e-mail. i would like to share the defects discovered on my vehicle since i purchased this on october 2003. few months i drove my trailblazer, i was stuck at the airport because it won't start and i brought it to the dealership for repair which lasted for 3 days. they told me it was just a case of low battery power. i was not in agreement with their reason. i wrote gm headquarters demanding an exchange or replacement of the truck. they declined my request, instead they offered me an extended warranty. the following year, i was driving at around 25 mph, when i changed gear all of a sudden the gear shifter came loose and practically detached it's linkage. i panicked and slowly pulled over to the side of the road. the dealer repaired the shifter for free. then just this month i was driving on the freeway at around 50 mph, i noticed the rpm was between 7-8 and the engine revved hard, but there was no power. the speed remained constant even when i pressed the gas pedal fully. i brought the vehicle to the dealership and they found out that the transmission is defective and they replaced it under warranty. the total mileage driven as of this time is 30,000 miles. *jb

I took my 2002 trailblazer to the dealership in dec. because the 4 wheel drive was not operating (i hadn't needed to use it in months) the wasn't any service light on the vehicle when i took it in. magically, when i left the dealership the service 4wd light was on. after they charged me an 80.00 diagnostic fee i was told i need a new transfer case module that would cost $400.00. i haven't had time to take the car in over the holidays. today when my husband was driving the car he had shut it off and just for kicks put it in 4 wheel high and it worked!! however, he was driving down the road and tried to turn the car into a gas station and it shuttered and did not want to turn. he did get it into a parking spot, put the vehicle in park and shut it off. after the vehicle was off it lunged forward about 4 feet. i called gm immediately when he came home and they said they would contact me dealership and the best they could do is pay for half of the repair!! all i can say that i thank god that there was not another car or person in front of my car when it mysteriously jumped 4 feet forward. i have noticed on the website that there are a lot of complaints about this control module-it is just an accident waiting to happen. also, when i called the dealership to make an appointment (im afraid to drive the car) they said the soonest they could take me was on tuesday( 4 days from now)-even after i had explained the whole situation. *jb

I have a 2003 chevy trailblazer lt. a few weeks ago i found out my 4x4 was not working properly. after only driving my blazer 3 times, at highway speed (70), i heard a very loud knock in the front end shortly followed by continuous knocking and very quickly lost control of the brakes. due to circumstances being on my side i was able to get off of the highway and place the car in park and have it towed to the garage. upon review of the front end it was determined the front end differential literally blew apart. my trailblazer only has 84,000 miles and i now have to replace the whole front axle. most likely at a cost of at least $2,000.00. this repair includes the cost of an axle from a salvage yard...not a new one and entails at least 16 hours of labor. with review of articles posted to auto sites on the internet, this is a very wide spread issue with trailblazers. why is gm not stepping up to the plate and addressing these issues? i was lucky this morning. my mechanic does not know how i was not in a serious wreck seeing that this happened during morning rush hour. *tr

1st problem (exact date unknown, winter 2003-2004): the check 4wd light came on. the dealership's service dept said gm had no repair for this problem and that it was common in trailblazers, and they simply reset the fuse. then (may 2004): vehicle started making a growling noise. we took it in and the mechanics said that one of the bearings was bad, and they replaced the bearing and rebuilt the transfer case. a month later (june) we had the same problem. that time, all of the bearings and the oil pump were scored. nobody suggested a reason for this. the transfer case was rebuilt again. now (6 weeks later) the front differential is leaking oil from at least two locations and is currently being rebuilt. i have been told by the service dept that the reason is likely that either it was put together wrong at the factory or the seal was bad to start with. it seems to us that the entire 4wd capability of this vehicle is compromised. we live in the country where the roads don't get plowed with any regularity, and with winter coming, i am going to need the 4wd, but i'm afraid to use it. i already spun out once last winter because they told me not to drive the car in a4wd because it's bad for the car, so i was driving in 2wd when i unexpectedly lost traction and did a 360 and almost wound up in the ditch. even without snow, i am not confident that this car will get me from here to there without a problem. *jb

POWER TRAIN - TRANSFER CASE (4-WHEEL DRIVE)

The vehicle transfer case has failed twice. the first failure occurred at 33,377 miles. the dealer repaired the vehicle under the vehicle original warranty. the second failure occurred with 43,971 miles. (miles per each transfer case)the vehicle was idling rough and in 4wd. i selected the awd mode and the vehicle made a clunking sound but stopped idling rough. when i tried to put it back in 4wd it would not go into the 4wd mode. when i returned home i tried to put the vehicle in 4 low and it went into 4 low but would not come out of 4 low. the servicing dealer and gm claim the tc failure is because we live in a northern state and therefore use the awd and 4wd more than other regions. i spoke with another dealer and they claim gm is aware of this problem, but cannot fix it. the second dealer said they could repair the vehicle, but assured me that the tc would fail again. both dealer said they see these trailblazer tc failing all winter long. there were about 4 to 5 trailblazers in the service dept (not including ours) with broken transfer cases. *tr

Purchased 2003 trailblazer in october 2003. had problems shifting into 4wd in winter 2003-04. when switching into and 4-wd, lights would flash and it would remain in 2-wd. service 4wd light came on soon after. brought it to the dealer who could not replicate problem. this happened later the same year and also the following year, each time the dealer could not find a problem. this past weekend while on vacation, a parking valet for some odd reason, switched the car into 4-wd low. car will not come out of 4-wd low. had to leave at dealer 150 miles from home and rent a car to get home. i am waiting until after the 4th of july holiday for them to look at car and figure out problem. *nm

Drove car to a friends. had to park in the mud. came out later to find that the 4wd was not functioning at all. no lights no attempt to switch into awd, 4 hi, or 4 lo. would not like to be out in snow and find out that 4wd does not work on a rear-wheel drive car. could cause an accident. *jb

Gm t-body 4 wheel drive vehicles 2002 > loss of control during 4-wheel drive conditions. transfer case shifting in and out with out warning, causing a slide and spin out condition. have been in touch with gm and was tolds condition is normal. they blame the driver is driving too fast for conditions. other vehicles have not lost control under the same conditions and speed. *ak

My 11-month old 2003 chevrolet trailblazer has had multiple quality problems, twice affecting my safety. most of the problems have been electrical in nature. the 4wd has become inoperable numerous times, once while driving in snow. in another incident during a severe thunderstorm at night the air conditioner (a/c) failed and i was unable to defrost my windshield in order to see. after one dealer failed to diagnose the 4wd problem, another dealer replaced my ignition switch because the technician said i had no power at all going to the rear grid. i continue to have intermittent electrical problems, including near stalling at a traffic light, and ongoing 4wd failures. the car also has very jerky motion when in 4wd reverse, of course, when the 4wd is working at all. the dealer told me that was normal and now i see there is a service bulletin on the problem. *la

While driving, unexpectedly the 4-wheel drive light went off. when this occurred, it rendered the 4 wheel drive inoperative. this was caused by a failure in the tcm module. the dealership reprogrammed the tcm module, but the problem recurred. several tsb bulletins were issued on this problem. *ak *scc *jb

Upon starting the vehicle, the service 4-wd indicator light in the console area lights up, and the setting selector light does not work. the selection switch does not light up. the vehicle is new and has only 750 miles. when the dealer was contacted, i was told the service department could not look at the problem for 10 days. additionally, i was informed that while the vehicle is probably safe to drive until they (the dealer) could assess the problem, the four wheel drive would not be working! having just been in an accident in another vehicle that was totaled, it does not give me a sense of security driving a vehicle that is not operating properly.*ak
