Speedometer malfunctions at various times. on carcomplaints.com there are 46 complaints of speedometer problems with this model vehicle and nothing is being done about them and nobody knows what the fix is. one garage told me the battery was bad so replacing it would fix the problem, it didn't. i had a speed control sensor put in, and that didn't fix the problem either. no warning lights are coming on, so nobody knows what else to do. i don't have any more money to put in this vehicle. the battery and the speed control sensor together have cost me over $200. *tr
The speedometer on my 2004 chevy trailblazer doesen'twork due to the stepper motors in the instrument cluster gm knows of the complaints on their other vehicles of the same years and have repaired them. the speedometer starts out working but fails after a few miles down the road. i've read e-mails from people on the internet who have gotten speeding tickets from this problem. *tr

Instrument panel gauges on my 2004 chevrolet trailblazer has stopped working. i have no way to gauge speed, rpm's, fuel, temperature, oil pressure. i have contacted my dealership and have been advised that my vehicle is not being recalled, nor are there any nhtsa bulletins. i have learned, however, that larger gm vehicles have been recalled for the same problem. i would like to respectfully request that trailblazers be repaired likewise. i have absolutely no funds to cover this repair. with two jobs, it is all i can do to keep above water financially. thank you very much for any advice and help you can offer. *tr
The speedometer stops working or will accelerates with you putting your foot on the gas pedal you have turn off the car and keep starting and turning off the car to get back to 0mph. *tr
Instrument panel - complete failure while vehicle was in service. was driving down i95 near richmond va and the speedometer did not decrease in speed while i was slowing down. when i accelerated the speedometer would increase and would not drop. the speedometer final reached 120mph. safety issue as one is unable to know what speed one is traveling which could have led to an accident. took vehicle to gmc / buick / cadillac dealer in athens ga. took one week to get a replacement cluster box. cost of repair $401.50. contacted gm. *tr

The problems that are happening to my 2004 chevy trailblazer : i am having a whining noise in the front end of the vehicle and when i try to engage into 4wd the sound worsens and there is a vibration in the front as well the whining almost resembles a low siren sound. i am also having a major malfunction with my speedometer since the weather has gotten colder??? i could only be moving 10mph and it will register to 120 or even surpass it and then get stuck, the only way to unstick it is to shut the car off and keep restarting it until it resets itself but now it is stuck and wont reset, i went online to see if there were any recalls and i all i found out was there were tons of people having the same issues with their trailblazers as i am having. these problems are occurring at all different times during the life of the car some people have them happen around 30,000 miles or some 50 thousand and myself the speedometer is happening around 72,000 miles. the speedometer seemed to start to act up once the weather was colder. its a shame they will fix the larger suv's due to a lawsuit but since this is a smaller suv it's not covered. we have tried to replace the wheel bearings in the truck for the front end noise to only find the noise did not disappear after reading many of other complaints from others it seems this could be the transfer case on the truck. i am not going to keep replacing part after part to only find out its the drive train and something should be done about this. *tr

Speedometer and tach work intermittently. i believe this is a safety issue, drivers need to be aware of the speed they are traveling. *tr
Instrument cluster just quit working, speedometer, fuel gauge, tach, ampmeter, temp gauge, oil pressure are all not working. all warning lights don't appear to be functioning. the odometer is not displaying the mileage. *tr

I own a 2004 chevy trailblazer lt and in the last six months my speedometer stops working. it freezes either at 10 mph or goes all over the 120 mph. when i received my recent oil changed i asked for them to check it and than said they would need to replace cluster kit to the tune of $500.00. but they wanted me to check with gm and see if there was recall because they have seen several 2004 trailblazers with the same problem. when i looked up gm there was no recall issued, so now i have to pay out of pocket to get it fixed. i was told to file a compliment. *tr
The speedometer in my 2004 chevrolet trailblazer ls is not working properly. the needle is pointing at 120mph while the vehicle is stopped and the needle continues clockwise past 120mph as i accelerate, therefore i am not able to accurately determine the speed at which i am traveling causing a safety hazard to myself and other persons on the roadways. this did occur as i was traveling on interstate 30 in central arkansas. i was going 70mph and the speedometer gradually dropped to 0mph then later the needle moved to 120mph. *tr
I am a military member and have been back and forth to iraq and afghanistan, i own a chevy trailblazer 2004, the speedometer has been messed up for several months showing 30 mph at a stop and changing every day to a new speed. it is a very stressful knowing that your spouse is in the states driving a unreliable vehicle, on top of the stress from the deployment itself. to get this fixed its going to cost 400-600 dollars which should not have to paid by the vehicle owners since it is a large complaint for most of the chevy models from 04-06. *tr
I have a 2004 chevy trailblazer and the speedometer is not working properly i have been on the internet and found out this is not the one with this problem. *tr
Speedometer will intermittently show speed much faster than actual speed. for example, showing 120+ mph when only going 40mph. *tr
Entire instrument panel not working in my 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. first incident 10/16/2009, corrected itself within 10 mins. stopped working again 10/25/2009, no self correction this time, not working at all. calling chevy dealership tomorrow. *tr
While driving on the freeway, my speedometer failed and started reporting the speed well above the speed i was going. my speedometer now gets stuck between 70-120mph even when parked. this presents a safety issue as i have no idea of the speed at which i am traveling. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. she stated that while driving 40 mph all of the lights on the instrument control panel failed, then immediately turned back on. the vehicle was taken to the dealership for inspection. a technician concluded that because they could not duplicate the failure, they could not make any repairs. the failure and current mileages were 56,000. bl
I own a 2004 chevy trailblazer, my instrument cluster stopped working a couple of months after i bought is used. while looking at other web site and doing a search i have noticed that i am not the only one. i have not had a repair done do to the cost of the part. exact problems are, the gas gauge does floats the oil pressure gauge does not read the speedometer is non-functional. *tr
Incident, 2004 trailblazer gauges are not working. started with tach, then speed, now oil, battery, temp gauges not working (all over the place with readings). gas gauge occasionally not working. understand 2002-2003 are under recall. 2004 needs to be added. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. in july of 2009, the speedometer began to fail. on one occasion, while driving between 20-30 mph, the speedometer registered 90 mph. the second failure occurred while driving 55 mph and the speedometer displayed 30 mph. the contact replaced the battery, but the failure was not corrected. she took the vehicle to the dealer and they reprogrammed the computer, which corrected the issue for a few months. the contact will take the vehicle back to the dealer. report number 71-749316845 was filed with the manufacturer and they stated that she will not be charged the total price for the repair at the dealer. the current and failure mileages were 29,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving 60 mph, the instrument panel gauges blinked on and off, failed completely, and then returned to normal. there was no warning prior to the failure. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the instrument cluster failed. the repair would cost $100. the vehicle is currently being repaired. the contact called the manufacturer and was informed that no compensation would be provided because the failure was not covered under warranty or recall. the failure mileage was 47,000 and current mileage was 47,500. updated 08/28/09 *bf updated 08/31/09.*jb
All dash components intermittent for a few days, now all gauges inoperative. unable to determine speed, engine condition, gas level. *tr
Went on vacation and on the way back my trailblazer speedometer stopped working and the gas gauge get home do some searching on the trailvoy web site come to find out this is a common problem people are having nothing like a 4 hour trip home taking 7 hours cause i didn't know how fast i was going or how much gas i have call the dealer they tell me it will cost 500+ tech time to replace i was like what this is known problem use should recall this and the services writer agreed about that is a major safety issue. *tr
2004 chevy trailblazer. gauges quit working or dont work correctly including the speedometer which could cause someone to miss judge speed and cause an accident. *tr

The speedometer does not display correct speed, will show 80 mph when only going 35 to 40 mph. when turning off engine needle will not go back to zero. very dangerous. *tr
Driving down the highway, looked down to check speed and it read zero. the tachometer said zero. i had to pull over and re-start the vehicle. re-starting it worked that time but not the next day when it happened again. this happens all the time now. i don't know how fast i am going. i was told that it would cost me around $500 to have it repaired. *tr
Speedometer stops working at random times. it will stick at 100 and stay there for a while. sometimes it will correct after repeated starting of the engine. this is very dangerous and i was told it would cost $600 to repair. i have seen that this is a pretty consistent problem with this model suv. *tr
2004 chevy trailblazer. the speedometer does not work properly. *tr
The instrument cluster went out on my 04 chevy trailblazer which i purchased new at around 40k. chevy will do nothing to help and in the meantime i have no speedometer, tachometer, or gas gauge. *tr
2004 chevy trailblazer speedometer reads much faster than i am actually going. when i am at a complete stop, it reads up to 60 mph. this varies by day, some days it is 30, some it is 45, etc... this is extremely dangerous as i never know the actual speed i am going and just have to use my best judgment. also, check engine light has been on for 2 years and dealer cant find anything wrong with it. *tr
Speedometer started failing after 30-45 min of driving then got more frequent. i took it into local dealership where i purchased vehicle in las vegas and they told me it could be anywhere from $400-$600 to repair it. i have since learned in the last year that this is a huge gm issue and i am glad i did not have it repaired as of yet. *tr
 Instrument cluster stopped working. *tr
Faulty speedometer! it started displaying the wrong speed. took about two weeks and now it doesn't move. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving approximately 50 mph on normal road conditions, the oil pressure gauge failed without warning. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection and they reset the electronic oil gauge; however, the failure recurred. in addition, the speedometer displayed inaccurate readings whenever the vehicle was in operation. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was 67,000 and current mileage was 75,000. updated 03/31/09.*jb
2004 chevrolet trailblazer speedometer stuck at 80 mph. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving approximately 55 mph, the door ajar chime began to sound. immediately following, all of the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel and the gauges became inoperable. the vehicle was driven to the dealer, but they could not duplicate the failure. the failure has been persistent for the past six months. the vehicle has not been repaired. the manufacturer stated that they were not liable for the repair costs. the current mileage was 81,393 and failure mileage was 52,000. updated 3/16/09 */cn the instrument panel and lights failed. updated 03/19/09. *jb
Dash board gauges are frequently inaccurate. so far the rpm gauge has been sticking at 2200 and the speedometer is typically showing a speed 10-20 mph slower than actual when compared to gps speed. when this happens the speed gauge goes below 0 mph at a stop. other times the speedometer will stick at a random speed whether moving or not. this is very dangerous as it causes the driver to unknowingly speed. if it were not for the gps unit showing the real speed i may have gotten a ticket. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the speedometer would become stuck at 50 mph while the vehicle was completely stopped. the accurate speed could not be determined due to the failure. the dealer stated that the repair would cost over $500. no repairs have been made to date. the failure mileage was 60,000 and current mileage was 80,000. updated 03-06-09 *bf updated 03/09/09. *jb
For about 6 months, the speedometer on my 2004 trailblazer would intermittently read 120 mph and get stuck. the problem would correct after repeated starting of the engine. in december the speedometer became stuck again and has not reset. i currently have 80,000 miles on my car. i have contacted chevrolet customer care and was told that they know about this issue in many of their vehicles but no recall has been ordered. customer care wants me to take my car to my dealership at my cost ( $89.00) to have the problem diagnosed. at that point they will inform if anything can be done for me. i do not understand why gm is being allowed to get away with this. *tr
The speedometer does not register the speed of the vehicle. i don't know how fast or slow i am going. *tr
I had been driving with a faulty speedometer in my 2004 chevy trailblazer for some time without even knowing it was not working properly. inability to gauge speed is a major safety concern in my opinion and the problem is not limited to my vehicle. it is a well known defect affecting gm clusters, so much so that is has been the source of a recall in the silverado. that, however does nothing to help the other thousands of people with these defective and dangerous clusters made by the same company driving in other gm vehicles like the trailblazer with no indication of their speed. a product that affects safety like this does should be immediately recalled for all affected vehicles. when i searched for gm cluster there are well over 500 complaints about these and no less than 3 companies out there independently fixing them while gm does nothing about the problem. thank you for your attention to this serious matter. *tr
2004 chevrolet trailblazer ls with 50,000 miles speedometer stopped working. sometimes it shows 40, sometimes it shows 120mph while parked in my driveway. found to be a common problem in this model, but no recall. this is very unsafe for all drivers and passengers. january 13th, 2009 - have appointment to replace entire instrument cluster at a cost of $500 that i have to pay. gm should replace faulty parts at no cost, or at least cover part of the replacement. this model of vehicle is unsafe to drive in this condition. with other models in this same year having a recall for the same problem, i don't see why gm cannot expand it to include an obvious continuing problem. please look into this matter and have gm recall this problem for the safety of all motorists. *tr
 1. speedometer on 2004 chevrolet trailblazer started to give false readings. you could be in a 25 mph speed zone and the speedometer would show a100 mph. 2. intermittent. 3. replaced speedometer on january 9, 2009 (54,000 miles on car). *tr
2004 chevrolet trailblazer with a defective speedometer. consumer states that the speedometer was replaced and cost him nearly $600. he feels that the trailblazer should be added to the recall list. *kb *jb
Speedometer on 2004 chevrolet trailblazer is not working. this is a common problem among trailblazer owners, and gm refuses to issue a recall for it. the repair must be done by a dealer and is upwards of $600. this causes a very unsafe driving situation! *tr
I have 2004 trailblazer and cluster is bad this need to be recall . i need to report a problem a can't solve with gm complaint number from gm is 71-683-983-288 and vin number it will cost around 600 to replaced. *tr
Speedometer fails to report the proper speed,at times it starts out at 80 mph and go up to 120 mph sitting still, at times the whole instruments panel fails ( fuel gauge temp gauge voltage meter ). *tr
We have a 2004 trailblazer lt and have issues with the speedometer not working properly. it gets stuck between 30-120mph or does not move at all. took it to a chevy dealer a few miles from our home. they said, they have to send the instrument cluster out to get repaired/ reprogrammed and it would cost $525. i don't understand why chevy does not provided some sort of discount or recall for the repairs since it seems to be a very common issue with there trailblazers. *tr
Speedometer and fuel gage completely stopped working. researched the internet and lots of people have complained of this very issue, but no recall has been made. this is a safety hazard and to fix this problem our dealership said it would cost anywhere at the least $500. this really upsets me as we cannot afford to fix this for that amount of money. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the instrument panel has not worked since she purchased the vehicle brand new in january of 2004. the warning indicators are constantly illuminated. she took the vehicle to the dealer several times while it was under warranty, but they could not locate the failure. due to the failure, she does not know how fast she is driving, how much fuel is in the vehicle, and cannot read the odometer. recently, the headlights failed and she took the vehicle back to the dealer. the dealer charged $91 to diagnose the failure, which produced a failure code at the headlight low beam relay cluster switch. the dealer replaced the low beam relay switch and ignition switch, but the failure persisted. now that the vehicle is out of warranty, the dealer has finally located a diagnostic code for the instrument panel failure. the dealer stated that the instrument panel cluster failed and would cost $600 to repair. the failure mileage was 9,000 and current mileage was 68,000. updated 4/14/09 *cn the air bag light illuminated. updated 04/17/09. *jb
The instrument panel is not working. it started with the rpm and each one is going out. odometer is not working. only 40,000 miles this is not right. i now regret buying a chevy. *tr
Speedometer gets stuck on higher speed and rpm meter gets stuck on a high level then stops working then starts working again but on wrong rpm level. have to restart vehicle 5-10 times for it to go down. gm wants me to pay for diagnosis then decide whether its covered or not. gm should pay for the whole thing since its a common problem with all the chevy trailblazer. the trailblazer isn't that old and only has 39,000 miles on it. already had to replace a master door window/ lock switch which cost me $400. very disappointed with gm with my trailblazer and gm not doing anything about the lousy product they produce. *tr
My speedometer stop working. one day while driving, i checked my speed only to realize the speedometer was not working. a few days later it started working again. now the none of the gauges (speedometer, odometer , ect.) are working. *tr
Instead of pointing to the speed i was going, the speedometer needle kept moving a little to each side. now it reads consistently too high, and i don't know what speed i'm going. i've read a lot of complaints about this, which say that gm won't admit it's a defect, and i can expect other gauges on the instrument panel (tachometer, fuel gauge, etc.) to break, too. *tr
The speedometer on my 2004 chevy trailblazer started to malfunction. the speedometer will stick. i looked up the problem and found other people with the same problem. when i called chevy they told me that my car was not covered for this special policy. *tr
I was driving to work one morning and notice that my speedometer in my 2004 chevy trailblazer appeared to be malfunctioning. i got to a stop sign and stopped. my speedometer only went down to 30 never down to zero at a complete stop. as i started through a intersection my speedometer went from 30 to a 120 on a rural country road. at the next stop sign the speedometer stayed at 120. as i proceeded, the speedometer went completely around and stopped where the trip miles are located. i never knew through the rest of my trip to work exactly how fast i was really going. *tr
Speedometer not functioning properly, it showed i was doing 35 mph sitting at a stop light. i had to turn the vehicle off and on to get the speedometer to drop back down, which it did in 5mph increments. i also have problems with the gas gauge showing empty when it is full. *tr
I have a 2004 chevy trailblazer. the speedometer went out last august. it started with staying on 20 mph while i was stopped and engine was off. now it has since stopped completely. it is now stuck clockwise at about 150 mph with the gauge pointing to neutral. *tr
Speedometer and rpm gauge do not work. they are completely inaccurate. for example, it show 120 mph when i'm going 50mph. at first it only messed up sometimes. now it is never accurate. i have not fixed it. from what i have researched, many other people are having the same problem, but gm has not issued a recall for that on the trailblazer (to my knowledge). *tr
Defective instrument panel, all gauges malfunction speedometer, tachometer, fuel, water temperature, oil pressure and volts. *tr
I began having problems with speedometer and tachometer several months ago. the tac and speedometer go crazy and then go dead while driving down the road. i took it in and was told that it was a faulty gauge cluster that needed to be replaced and that it was a problem already recalled in other gm vehicles. the service tech was able to unhook the battery cable and reset the gauges but they still aren't fixed. i have been reading multitudes of complaints of the same thing. my trailblazer started doing this around 51,000 miles! *tr
Speedometer started to flutter about 2 weeks ago. speedometer completely broken now. unable to tell how fast car is going nothing has been done yet. contacted the manufacturer because several other suvs have had this same problem. they only fix certain suvs. they will not fix trailblazers or recall the instrument panel cluster which is the problem. they are only recalling some of the other suvs including yukons and avalanches. *tr
First the tach quit working and now the speedometer and cruise control are erratic. have spoken with gm customer service and taken it in to the dealership for diagnosis. the are fully aware of the problems but unwilling to stand behind their produce or fix it. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the tachometer and speedometer were behaving erratically on a regular basis. he could not tell if he was driving 2 mph or 200 mph due to the irregularity of the indicators. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the extended warranty did not cover the vehicle, as well as other chevrolet models that were included in a recall for this same failure. the cost of the repair ranged from $600-$800. the vin was unknown. the current mileage was 65,000 and failure mileage was approximately 64,000.
Speedometer is broken ,reads 120 mph when in park or stays on 10mph when driving, sometimes it works then other times wont work took it to chevy dealer and it was working for them two days later it started again. it is currently stuck on 10mph. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. beginning in january of 2007, the gas gauge failed on the instrument panel, which prevented the contact from knowing the amount of fuel in the vehicle. soon afterwards, the speedometer began to malfunction and began displaying inaccurate readings. the vehicle has not been repaired, but arrangements are being made. the current mileage was 84,585 and failure mileage was 73,068.
Normal operating of 2004 trailblazer, 15,000 orig miles. driving approximately 40 mph, speedometer reading 110 mph, when stopped speedometer reads 60 mph, just stopped working suddenly, no warning leading up to this problem. -this has not been corrected to date. safety and tickets are a major factor not knowing what speed you are driving... *tr
I began having problems with speedometer and tachometer several years ago. the tac and speedometer go haywire and then go dead while driving down the road. i brought it in and was told that it was a faulty gauge cluster that needed to be replaced and that it was a problem already recalled in other gm vehicles. the service tech was able to unhook the battery cable and reset the gauges but they still aren't fixed. i have been reading multitudes of complaints of the same thing. *tr
When temperatures are cool , below 40 degrees f the tachometer doesn't work at all. once the car has been driven awhile and warmed up the tachometer begins working. *tr
 Speedometer quit working. *tr
I have a 2004 chevy trailblazer with 45,000 miles on it. i was driving along the other day and noticed my rpm gauge bouncing around. five minutes later i looked down and was going 120 mph in a school zone. i just happened to be sitting still. once i began moving the speedometer was bouncing like crazy. i have no idea what will be next , maybe filling full of gas and still be on empty? *tr
I own a '04 trailblazer and a couple of months ago my oil pressure gauge started sticking. then temp. gauge was sticking , battery gauge stuck, and speedometer stopped working. i have owned this vehicle for less than a year and do not have the money to replace the dash cluster. if gm can issue a recall on the other vehicles somebody should force them to issue a recall for the trailblazers also. this is a safety issue that they should be responsible for not us the consumers. *tr
Speedometer on 2004 chevy trailblazer quit working. there are numerous instances of this happening on other chevy vehicles of the same model year. gm needs to resolve this issue. it is a serious safety issue. *tr
My 2004 trailblazer's speedometer and tachometer malfunctioned. everyone i spoke to, including gm customer service and the repairman, seemed to know immediately it was a defective cluster. this is covered on other gm vehicles but not the trailblazer. there are many cases online where it is obvious it is a manufacturer defect/known problem. my daughter received a speeding ticket for going 49 in a 40 when the speedometer showed she was within the mph limit. it was shortly after that we realized the problem. my situation occurred about a month or two ago. yesterday i was driving with a friend who had the same vehicle and he mentioned his speedometer was acting up. i told him exactly what happened to me and he is looking into the repair. i feel this is a potential safety hazard and inconvenience and since so many are experiencing the same problem gm should cover the cost of the repair. *tr
I was driving down the road when my speedometer continued to rise even when i stopped. i have a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. there are hundreds of people in various forums with the same problem and chevrolet has yet to recall or fix the problem. they know that the problem is with the instrument cluster failing but still will not pay to have it fixed in the trailblazer. the other trucks and suv's have been found with the same problem and chevrolet is paying for them but not the trailblazer. i will need to pay $450 for a new instrument panel to fix the problem. i currently do not have a working speedometer. *tr
2004 chevrolet trailblazer instrument panel cluster failure. when taken to the chevrolet dealer to determine cause of the problem with the speedometer and the instrument cluster they are aware that this is a very common problem with trailblazers. no recall yet for trailblazers but there is recall for same problem with many other chevrolet models including silverado, suburban and others. speedometer failed to work. *tr
 Speedometer is malfunctioning (stuck). *tr
2004 chevy trailblazer tach, failed at 52,000 mi speedometer sticks does not return to zero, at 62,000 mi. *tr
Speedometer does not return to 0, stops at 20 to 35. at other times it does not lt stops all together. seems to be major problem with this model yet no recall. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving 45 mph, the speedometer failed. the contact owned a previous 2003 trailblazer that had the same failure. the dealer stated that the electronic unit was faulty and they replaced the entire dashboard at the cost of $1,500 on the 2003 trailblazer. however, the failure recurred. these units can only be purchased from a chevrolet dealer. the vin was unknown. the current and failure mileages were 75,000.
2004 trailblazer speedometer failure. the speedometer needle fails to go back to zero while stopped. gm issued a bulletin for 2003-2004 model year cadillac escalade, escalade esv, and escalade ext; chevrolet avalanche, silverado, suburban, and tahoe; and gmc sierra, yukon, and yukon xl vehicles have reported that the instrument panel (ip) cluster gauges stick, flutter, or become inoperative. however, the 2004 trailblazer was not included. *tr
In december of 2007 the speedometer in '04 trailblazer with 45,000 miles stopped working. it works on occasion, but is normally stuck. i found this is due to faulty gage clusters and is common on trailblazers. a recall was recently made on full size chevy models with the same issue, so i ask that the recall include the trailblazer model. the speedometer is a vital instrument and is needed for safe driving. i spent $75 for an analysis and was stated the whole gage cluster will need to be replaced for $600 as the stepper motors in these models are faulty. *tr
2004 chevrolet trailblazer with 41000 miles, speedometer and tach has stopped working. *tr
2003 trailblazer ltz speedometer indicator stuck in the post 120mph position. research indicates this proceeds the entire cluster going bad, tach, oil, gas etc.. contacted gm who arranged for a dealer to perform a diagnostic. confirmed bad cluster. gm advises this is not their problem so they will not fix it. even though there are numerous reports of bad clusters on other gm models to include the tb. class action lawsuit working in ca. *tr
2004 chevrolet trailblazer speedometer either is grossly off or fails altogether. no particular event (moisture, temperature, etc) causes this occurrence. it comes and goes. *tr
 Instrument panel failure. *tr
When exterior temps are approximately 25*f or below, speedometer is completely inop or reads extremely low (20-30mph?) and when at a stop the speedometer will drop well below 0mph. instead of a smooth, fluid movement, needle is very jerky and lags. as the truck warms up the symptoms will gradually disappear. in warmer outside temps, the speedometer appears to work normally. *tr
 2004 chev.trailblazer. speedometer stuck-gets incorrect readings. *tr
The speedometer cable started acting erratic and no fail to accurately tell me how fast that i am going. from what i understand gmac has a recall on the same cluster that is used on similar vehicles. i own a 2004 chevy trailblazer with 69,000 miles on it. i use the vehicle to travel back and forth to work totaling 100+ miles per day. *tr
Failure of instrument cluster on 2004 chev trailblazer. the tach went bad at 52,500 miles and my speedometer failed about 4,000 miles after that. it is stuck at 120 miles per hour even when the unit is parked. *tr
2004 trailblazer with speedometer, tachometer, and oil pressure gauge intermittent failure. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the speedometer failed intermittently. while parked, the speedometer read 120 mph. the dealer stated that the instrument cluster failed. the failure mileage was 22,000 and current mileage was 27,000. updated 02-14-08 *bf
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the speedometer failed intermittently in all driving conditions. the speedometer would become stuck on 100 or 0 mph while driving at any speed or in park. no repairs were made. the failure mileage was 50,000 and current mileage is 62,000. updated 02/14/08. *lj
I was driving my 2004 chevrolet trailblazer onto the highway on january 4, 2008 and the speedometer went to zero. after we stopped and restarted the vehicle, it jumped up and down and then steadied around 50 mph even though we had to be traveling faster than that to keep up with the traffic on the interstate. now when it idles, the speedometer intermittently catches. bud wolf chevrolet said on monday, january 7th, that they would fix the problem free of charge as the trailblazers were having the same problems as a number of other gm suv's and trucks. (they fixed 5 trailblazers in the past month that had the same problem with the speedometer). however, i learned that they were going out of business and would not fix the problem when i took the vehicle in for repair today. when i called other dealers, and chevrolet's customer service department, i was told that i had to pay for the repair myself. from what i understand, many trailblazer owners are unhappy because they are either having to pay $500 for the repair or drive their vehicle with a faulty speedometer because they cannot afford to pay for the repair. *tr
Speedometer in vehicle has stopped functioning properly. when parked the speedometer is indicating somewhere between 50 and 90 mph when driving the speedometer will travel sporadically up from its start point until it reaches its max location. when slowing or stopping the speedometer will sometimes travel back towards its start point, sometimes it will not. i do consider this to be a severe safety issue that gm should address. research on the internet has revealed 100's of others with this problem in trailblazers, as well as with gmc yukon's, sierra pick ups, chevy tahoe's, avalanche's, and silverado's. there has been an extension of the warranty on several models to repair this defective gauge cluster, but unfortunately the trailblazer has not been included in this extension. *tr
Speedometer defect in 2004 chevy trailblazer. *tr
2004 chevy trailblazer speedometer jumps, registers incorrectly ie: 30mph when going 65mpg, or doesn't work at all, works intermittently. *tr
Speedometer on my 2004 chevy trailblazer does not work properly. it reads at speeds higher than you are traveling, often going past the 120 mph limit on the speedometer face. it is a constantly occurring problem, and has not stopped since it began. it is very dangerous because one never knows what speed they are traveling, which could lead to tickets or accidents. *tr
Gauge cluster is non-functional. (tachometer & speedometer). *tr
The instrument cluster failed in my 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. not only did the tach and speedometer not work, they both registered the wrong information. at times, the speedometer would be reading 25 mph when the vehicle was actually going around 55-60 mph. if you can remember that they are wrong, it does not cause too much trouble, but can you imagine if someone who doesn't drive the vehicle too often, say a spouse, and they head into a sharp curve with a warning sign posted at 25mph, and they look at the speedometer for verification, and forget that it is wrong. this is especially dangerous at night, when it is harder to judge your speed. general motors refuses to acknowledge the engineering flaw on their vehicles. there are literally hundreds of people who have experienced this problem. as a retired law enforcement officer in one of the the largest counties in north carolina, i feel qualified to make the statement that this is an extremely dangerous defect and should prompt action by the nhtsa to force gm to repair these defective products at no charge. instead gm is making a lot of money off their customers for the repairs. from what i can tell, about $500 per vehicle. the speedometers go out around 40-50 k miles. *tr
Chevy 2004 trailblazer speedometer cluster fails, resulting in incorrect readings on the speedometer and oil pressure gauges. *tr
Just driving down the road and had a speedometer failure. we were going the speed limit and the speedometer went to 120 mph then dropped back down, pointing straight down. lucky we were on a straight road and not a curvy one. the speedometer will have to be replaced. *tr
Instrument panel lights go out without notice. at times all lights and gauges are on. other times no lights or gauges work at all. i know that the instrument cluster was recalled on various 2004 chevy truck models. please check into this 2004 trailblazer problem. *tr
 Odometer stopped working. *tr
Whenever i drive at night the exterior and interior lights flicker and sometimes go out completely when i brake or allow the truck to coast. when i use the gas the problem resolves but since i have to stop sometime this isn't a good fix. the electrical gauge on my dash fluxuate with the lights going from low to high and back again. i've taken into 2 dealerships but they can't duplicate the problem i work nights so i am driving mostly during the night. how is it save for a young woman to drive alone at night without lights? this is an ongoing problem that has happened since i purchased the truck and has not been resolved. *tr
Tach is not working at all and speedometer is all over the face. do not trust the information that is shown. *tr
I have a 2004 chevorlet trailblazer. the speedometer quit working driving down the interstate. i have no way to gauge my speed while driving. this is a common problem on gm products. the vehicle is 3 years old and has 66k and speedometer should not fail. this is clearly defective equipment and a safety issue and should be recalled immediately. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving at an unknown speed, the contact looked at the speedometer and the dial was on zero. the tachometer was over 7,000 and the oil gauge was over eighty. the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic and he stated that the instrument panel was not working. the speedometer was thirty miles off, the rpm was stuck at 4,000, and the fuel tank varied from full to half. the contact spoke with chevrolet and they stated that nothing could be done because the vehicle was not under recall. the current and failure mileages were 53,253.
The speedometer on my 2004 chevy trailblazer is undependable especially in cooler weather. it might say i'm going 120 mph in town or 35 mph on the interstate. this happened last spring and occasionally this summer. now it is real frequent. when i search (google) the problem it appears to be quite often with a lot of people. *tr
The speedometer is going bad. it registers speeds in excess of 120mph when the vehicle is only going 60mph. there is a limited recall but only if your vehicle falls under 7 years 70,000 miles. my 2004 tahoe has 84,000 miles and is not covered under this extended warranty. *tr
 Speedodometer stop working. *tr
Speedometer has failed, i understand this is a often failing item on the trailblazer. *tr
The speedometer in my 2004 chevy trailblazer will get stuck at various positions (currently at over 120 mph). the only way to correct this is to disconnect the negative terminal on the battery or stop/restart the car numerous times. i have no idea how fast i am really going when this probably occurs because the baseline for the speed is no longer at zero. this is a dangerous issue. some research on the internet has shown that this is a common problem with 03 to 06 gm cars and trucks, and particuarly the 04 to 05 models, and it seems to occur after the warranty is out for most people. gm knows they have a problem and charges $500+ for the fix, but independent shops charge less than $200. not having an accurate speedometer in a car that is only 3 years old and has only 50,000 miles because of low quality components used is not acceptable and given the number of issues out there and the cost to fix i feel the the nhtsa should force gm to recall or offer the fix when the problem occurs to owners of 03 to 06 gm products for free. *tr
On our 2004 trailblazer, at 60,000 miles, the speedometer started to malfunction, showing you going faster than you are. it does not always reset to zero. i have read numerous reports about speedometer problems for 2003-2007 gm trucks and suvs. there should definitely be a recall on this as this is a serious safety problem. i also have seen that in ca there are lawsuits and a class action suit pending. our local tv station wants to do segment on this problem. *tr
Speedometer is sticking, moving up and down or not working at all. *jb
Speedometer on 2004 chevy trailblazer started going higher and higher until it pegged itself. does not work and makes it difficult to know what speed you are going. *jb
The gas hand and the tachometer are not accurately calculating. the gas hand is halfway between the e and the f (at the 6 on a clock) when the tank is full and various times of the day, it moves all over the dial. *tr
I have owned this vehicle for 2 1/2 years. the first problem was noticeable only at night when the windshield glare was so bad on the freeway that i could not see very well. we had the windshield replaced. the second problem has been on-going for the past six to eight months. the speedometer sometimes works, but is usually not very correct, and most of the time it just picks a number and sits there for several days, whether the car is running or not. i usually use the rpms to figure out how fast i am going until my mechanic can fix it for more than a week at a time. *tr
Daily failure of seedometer on my 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. this was in addition to failure of the fuel gauge. the speedometer problem was inconsistent and made me question the actual speed at every moment and made me measure based on other traffic. it is a very distracting way to drive with all gauges moving at times and then returning to a fixed setting. i had the clusterboard replaced by the dealer who claimed this was not a common problem. instrument panels on 3 year old cars do not fail unless there is a manufacturing problem. please prevent accidents in the future this is not a safe way to operate a vehicle. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. she stated that the speedometer and the gas gauge works intermittently. when making a right turn she hears a humming noise. the dealer stated that they were unable to duplicate the problems however; they suggested that the instrument panel be replaced. the dealer has not made the replacement. the failure mileage was 35,000 and the current mileage was 49,000.
Insturment panel not working properly. the speedomoter started out showing random speeds and nowwa s permenantly stuck at 89 mph no matter if the cawass running or not. the rpm gauge also doid not move. this should be a recall, there appearse dto be a large problem with this issue. *ak
2004 chevrolet trailblazer speedometer is malfunctioning. gives a 100 mph reading when going 60. sometimes doesn't work at all. i know there to be thousands of similar complaints about gm speedometers. gm should recall this and not be afraid to stand behind its product. *tr
Most dashboard gauges failed on the 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. total loss of fuel gauge, amp gauge, temperature gauge and oil pressure gauge. in addition to these failures odometer did not work properly. also, other driver information computer items did not function. abs, parking brake and battery lights illuminated. after a while of driving all dashboard functions returned to normal. this has happened several times in the past few days.
My speedometer sometimes reads about 20 mph off then won't reset when i turn the vehicle off. it just stays at 20 mph...then sometimes it does reset and works fine. i took the vehicle to a chevy dealership and they said that since the problem wasn't happening at the time i took it in they couldn't do anything except re-program the speedo. that didn't help, it happened again after that. *jb
Speedometer does not work, so i do not know how fast i am going. the temperature gauge sometimes says my engine is too hot when it is not, so now i am not sure about the status of my engine's cooling system. this is an ongoing problem. i am extremely concerned and discovered on the internet that many people are having this problem.
Speedometer faulty and showing wildly inaccurate speeds. when driving on a highway, the speedometer will range from 10 mph to 120 mph! while conducting research online, this appears to be a major widespread problem with gm trucks and they have not taken any action to correct this dangerous situation. my vehicle is recently out of warranty and the repair will cost over $600. *jb
The speedometer in my 2004 chevy trailblazer began to show the wrong speed at about 45,000 miles. the needle would increase with speed as it should have but would not go back down again like it should. then it quit working altogether and the needle just hangs limp. we had the speedometer diagnosed at another facility since this occurred around the holidays and gm dealers could not get us in. my wife has been commuting 20-30 miles daily having no idea how fast she is going because gm refuses to correct the problem. i have found hundreds of similar stories after researching it on the internet. every person i know with a large gm vehicle has had to replace it between 40,000 and 50,000 miles. the facility that diagnosed the problem said that the speedometer head was stripped and the dealerships know the price of this part off the top of their heads, presumably because they replace many of them. *jb
My 2004 chevy trailblazers speedometer started malfunctioning. it will register speeds 25-35 miles per hour over actual. it also does not operate smoothly but jerks to the next number. very dangerous, and very expensive to fix. it appears that this is also happening on the envoy, tahoe and avalanche models. this should be qualified as a safety recall. *jb
Odometer failure after 81,000 miles... odometer will lock on different speeds, from 10-40- 110 mph even though i am not traveling that speed. my mechanic says that this part needs to be recalled because he has had to replace so many chevrolet tahoe and trailblazers with the same problem. this part can run over $300.00 sometimes. *jb
Speedometer suddenly started reading randomly, usually 10-15 mph too high. intermittent. *jb
Dash warning lights come on/stay on/go off randomly. additionally, on four separate occasions, decreased engine power has occurred. shutting vehicle down with a restart has always solved the decreased power issue. but dealership & an independent garage cannot fix due to no codes stored. warning light involved are: service engine soon, oil change due and reduced power. this is an ongoing problem having started almost as soon as we took delivery of vehicle new with 250 miles .*jb
Headlights blink while driving and speedometer and tachometer stopped working. *jb
The speedometer & tach do not work properly they read wrong or not at all. you can be driving at 50 mph you think, but it might be 60 or 70. when i called the dealer service the rep seamed to know right away what the problem was. cost $400.00+ to fix. *nm
This car has had problems before cutting off for no reason. the dealer where i bought it from said that they could not find anything wrong with it. now the car gauges and dashboard lights do not work properly. they sometimes do not work at all and after a while turn on. *jb
Speedometer started acting erratically. either posts no speed, or shows a speed that is obviously not correct. turning off car, and restarting corrects the problem for the moment. *jb
The speedometer and tachometer gauges on the dash don't work. the get stuck at say 50 mph and 7000 rpms. so you don't know how fast you are going or what the true rpm's are. than it takes about a week and your dash will start working again. my mechanic had 4 other trailblazers at his shop with the same issue. it cost 400.00 to fix and you are with out a car for two days. *jb
