After driving my ls trailblazer to the store, i got back in to notice the speedometer was no longer resting at 0. this was before i even started the vehicle. it was sitting at the 55 point! upon starting the vehicle, the gauge did not move back to zero. so as i drove away, going no more than 10mph, the gauge suggested i was going 65! i was scared driving home because i did not know my exact speed. upon getting home and shutting off the vehicle, i noticed the gauge rested at the 50 point. so i turned on the vehicle, then quickly turned it off. the speedometer was now resting at 45. i continued to quickly start and then shut off the vehicle, eventually working the gauge back down to zero. but this does not seem like the right thing to do. there is obviously something wrong. in the past, i have had smaller scale incidents with the tachometer gauge. it would zero itself at 1 or 2 rpms, thus indicating my engine was revving higher than it actually was. moreover, a couple times my fuel gauge was pointing outside of the e to f range! there is something seriously wrong with the electrical system. gm, you need to recall this and fix it please. *tr

While taking my girls to school my speedometer reading was 50mph faster than i was actually going and my tact was not registering at all. when i stopped the car i turned engine off and restarted the car and neither gauge works at all and hasn't in over a year. i took the vehicle to my local dealership and they want 800.00 to fix it and said it was a malfunction in the cluster and i have checked and it is a severe problem with this make and model. i have been driving without these gauges working and judge my speed with the traffic, but i am a single mom with limited resources and purchased a gm vehicle because of the safety reports. i feel that with all of the other same complaints does it take a loss of life to get this issue resolved. *tr

I have the same problem that an earlier blogger as, all my gauges are stuck, the speedometer is stuck, the oil gauge stuck, gas gauge stuck, i think gm needs to take control of their problem and correct it, not just say it's not a problem they will not fix. there needs to be a recall for this problem pin the trailblazer trucks. *tr

Love the vehicle except the fact all my gauges stick.... gm had told me this has to be safety issue in order to be recalled... i'm pretty sure not knowing how fast i am going on the highway is a saftey issue... especially with little children in the car. this is unacceptable. i refuse to pay for a defect that is happening in many gm vehicles... if i can find all the complaints i'm sure gm can as well. how do we get gm to fix these problems and try to keep customers????

Fuel gauge has been fluctuating wildly for a couple of months, generally reading empty (even after fill up) but occasionally full (when a fill up is needed). dealer said fuel gauge sensor was bad & that it would be approx $900 to fix. looking into the problem online i see there are thousands of people with the same problem.
11/01/201198000
The stepper motors in the instrument cluster have failed. this is an extremely common problem and people are now making a living off of charging for the repairs because gm is refusing to issue a recall.

The driver's side window relay switch is bad. i have had several quotes from dealerships and looks like the cost is around $400.00. (for them to replace and reprogram). there is a huge safety issue if you cannot roll down your window on the driver's side and roll down and lock or unlock any of the doors or windows from the driver's side as well. i have read many compalints on various websites from consumers with the same problem. with the majority of these switches going bad, they need to recall this, as it is very costly andnot at all safe. especially if an officer needs to approach you and you have to open your door first. that could lead to an unsafe incident toward yourself as well as any law enforcement agent. if you can please address this issue, it would be greatly appreciated. i have researched any recall on this and have not had any luck. thank you for your time in addressing this issue.

The speedometer on my 2004 trailblazer operates very erratically. at times it does not work at all at times it registers way slow or way fast. this to me is a major safety issue. if driving on snowy roads you can not tell how fast your wheels are spinning and this could cause loss of control of the vehicle. or another scenario, traveling on the interstate and the miles per hour is registering between 5 and 10 mph less that you are actually traveling. this could pose a rear end collision problem as those traveling behind you may not notice that your speed is slower. a properly functioning speedometer is a vital part of being able to drive the vehicle in a safe manner, not only for your safety but for those around you. in searching the internet this seems to be more of a common problem than what one might realize. general motors should be held accountable for this problem, as a properly functioning speedometer is an important safety feature. the same as brakes failure, throttle sticking, fire hazard or any other myriad of items on a vehicle are related to the proper and safe operation beyond the operators control. please look into this. thank you

My 2004 chevy trailblazer instrument gauges started going haywire. everthing that i have read says the whole panel needs replaced. the oil, battery, temp and gas clusters stopped working then all of a sudden while driving down the road start working again. then the spedometer and tach stopped and started and now nothing is coming on. i have no idea how much fuel that i have and all of the warning lights are all lit up. waiting for the whole thing to blow. i currently have it at a gm dealer and they said that it will cost me 500 bucks to replace the panel. i told them to go ahead because i dont feel safe driving like that. i have to have this vehicle to work and i want gm to pay for this to be fixed. major safety concern for me!

When i first purchased this vehicle i thought i had a great suv. little did i know that within the first month of owning it did i make a huge mistake. i am a single mother of 2 kids. i checked out the crash ratings and they were great!! i liked everything about my tb. looking back, after the 4th problem within that first month. i should have ran away screaming from it, as i do now daily. the lights flicker when you drive at night. the headlights constantly go out. the check gauges light is constantly coming on. the oil pressure gauge drops for no apparent reason. the tach goes crazy. the bell for the lights (when you have the keys out and the lights are still on, or when you have the keys in and the drivers door open) works when it wants to. the battery guage works when it feels like it. the gas guage hasn't had a problem lately. i am wondering...doesn't all of that constitue as a safety problem?? i have had the lights looked at and am told there isn't anything that can be done..really?? i am going to have to have the guages looked at now and from what i see it will cost about $600-$800. where other chevy vehicles have had this covered under a recall. there are many other problems i've had, the o2 sensor, temp guage, other lighing issues that i have taken care of but this is getting to be a bit much. i see many others have had this problem. it can't be from normal wear on the vehicle. please do something about this before someones family really gets hurt, if they haven't already.

Bought vehicle used in 2005, had 56,000 miles on it at the time. at 76,000 miles the speedometer went out completely had to be replaced. replaced the speedometer $500.00 cost. in 2007, the dashboard and all the gauges started going crazy, had it checked at a chevy dealer they confirmed it was an electrical problem that was not covered under my warranty and was gonna cost way to much to fix. later in 2009 the alarm system decided it wouldn't work anymore, or it would set itself. (got locked in the car for at least 20 minutes or more, wouldn't start either to reset the process), the remote key wouldn't work as well. had it inspected again, full diagnostic done by the chevy dealer & also by firestone, every issue that the car has is related to the electrical system failing constantly. headlights go off and on when they feel like it, hit them they come back on sometimes, tail lights have gone out, no need to replace bulbs that is not the issue. full diagnostic cost money, i have called the better business bureau to see what i could do to make chevy pay for this disfunctioning vehicle but, of course it is a bunch of red tape and political bull crap. i do not recommend this vehicle to anyone too much money will be lost and still no results. currently my vehicle has over 100,000 miles on it and the gauges still go out every now and then, the headlights still go out and the alarm still sets itself when it feels like it. i pray over this vehicle everytime i get in it.

I have a 2004 chevy trailblazer; while driving on the highway; all guages, lights, etc. abruptly stopped working and continue to not work. i researched on line and found it could be what is called the cluster board. i took my vehicle to a local chevy dealer in daytona beach fl. they insisted it was the ignition switch. they replaced that mechanism for just under $300. the following week (this occurred in 2010); the exact same situation recurred; so i brought it back to the dealer and they then agreed it was the cluster board which would now cost me close to $700.00. in order to avoid being ripped off to the tune of almost $1k; i purchased a gps unit so i could at least monitor my speed. the speed/rpms never register correctly; however, so far the other guages seems to be ok (except for the oil pressure, it goes out of whack frequently so i just bring it in quickly to make sure i have sufficient oil and that it's clear/clean). most recently my headlights just go out without warning; i am able to use the high beams, but of course that puts me in jeopardy of getting a ticket. there are so many complaints on the 2004 chevy trailblazer - i do not understand why there has not been a recall on the cluster board and the electrical issues (lighting). i cannot afford to have all the repairs completed and would like to see chevrolet take on some responsibility for the cost of these flaws in the manufacturing of this vehicle.

Dashboard gauges on our 2004 trailblazer have been failing one by one. no gauges except the speedometer have been operable for many months. now, on friday 11/11/11, the speedometer stopped working! this is a serious problem. i believe it must be caused by the same issues as the identical well-publicized problems on other trailblazers. in addition, some of the dashboard lights (seatbelt light, etc.) ramain on almost all the time. chevrolet should be reponsible for immediate repairs at no cost to us, the owner. thank you.

Instrument panel failure: owner states that instrument/gauge panel began to fail at or about 39,000 miles when the temperature was below 38' f degrees, that same year during the summer months speed gauge began to malfunction followed by all other gauges(rpm, gas, temp) at 50,000 miles, regardless of weather conditions. currently there is a total failure of all gauges.

Since purchasing our blazer, we have replaced both headlight bulbs numerous of times including the sockets for each side. my headlights have been known to work one day and not the next. or we can simply tap it and it will go out/come on. in the last 3 months i have had the bulb on the driver side replaced twice! we have speculated that the wires are loose but when inspected, that does not seem to be the case. i have had my car at the shop (not chevy they cost too much) and they have not found anything more than a burnt bulb. within the last 2 months, i was driving on a road that was not well lit at about 10p when both headlights went out. after pullling over & deciding the only way to make it home was to drive with my flashers on, i continued my way home. half way home they came back on but before i got home they went out again. how does that happen? again, i would say it's a loose wire, but what are the odds of that on both sides? now, tonight, while my 17 year old son was driving (11p) with 2 friends with him, both headlights went out; but came back on. my lights have been known to flicker, like they are not getting enough power/too much. i have called a local dealer & am told they can run a test to see what they find. that would be great, if i had the cash flow for it; as it's not cheap just for them to run the test not fix it...that will cost extra. i am not sure how chevy feels there is not an issue with the headlights? if you know exactly what my issue is please tell me so that i can have some one i can afford to pay, fix it. buying bulbs is the least of my worries if that was the only issue. but for both headlights to go out at the same time, thats an issue! i would hope that you, chevy, realize this is an ongoing issue & really has nothing to do with mileage. the headlights have been an issue since we bought the vehicle.

My head lights don't come on randomly. randomly they do. obviously, this is a serious safety issue especially at night. no, it's not light bulb replacemet issues.....other blog sites have complained about the same issues. very dangerous!!!! the gas gauge also is not working properly. when the gas gets low it blinks on for a second then adds more gas to the panel. people could run out of gas unknowingly. also very dangerous!

Instrument panel failure, ran out of gas on a busy four lane highway during morning rush hour. i was in the left hand lane and was unable to move to the shoulder. i now became a major traffic problem until some nice citizen helped me push the truck out of harms way, having to stop both lanes of traffic so i could cross. had i a working gas gauge i feel this would not have happened, none of the instruments in the vechile work, chevy has recalled other models of this year with the same problems, but not the trailblazer. why?

On june 23, 2011, i cranked my 2004 chevrolet trailblazer lt and the guages (speedomter, tacometer, etc.) began to fluctuate at a rapid speed. the suv cut off and i attempted to crank it again. the same thing happened again while i was driving the car. the speedometer went to zero as i was driving 70 miles per hour on the highway. i slowed down, but i had no idea how fast nor slow i was going. i pulled off of the highway, turned the suv off and restarted it. the speedometer went to 70 miles per hour while it was parked. the speedometer stayed at 70 mph as i made my way back to the highway. i have read several, literally hundreds, of similar situations online about chevy trailblazers. i researched and found there are no recalls regarding this malfunction. the first time my guages fluctuated was about 3 years after i purchased the suv. i turned the vehicle off, restarted it and had no more problems, so i thought it may have been a glitch and thought nothing else about it. after reading other consumers' concerns about the problem, i discovered most of them had problems with their speedometers during the second year after the suv was purchased. it's a very dangerous situatuon when one cannot guage his or her speed while driving because the speedometer stops working all of a sudden. it's dangerous at crosswalks, schools zones, and every road and highway we travel on. consumers have complained to their chevrolet service mechanics and customer service, but many are told the part has to be replaced or the entire console has to be replaced and reprogrammed. i am persuaded that there is a problem with the electrical system which has an adverse effect on the speedomter. hopefully this matter can be resolved without any tragic endings.

Oil gauge on instrument panel stopped working in october 2010. in may 2011 now the tachometer and speedometer stopped working. i have read of many complaints on 2003 trailblazer having this problem. i am experiencing the same issue and yet no recall. how is the speedometer malfunctioning not considered a safety recall when this appears to be consistent in chevy trailblazers?

At about 65,000 miles my tachometer started to read improper, later my gauges began to read improper. this doesn't happen all the time. but you can't trust them. you never know how fast you are going, if you have fuel, if your engine is overheating,if battery is charging, if i have oil pressure. i am on disibilty and can't afford the several hundered dollars it will cost to repair. i have found from a few sources this is a common problem. i just talked to gm, i was told that if i had it repaired to keep my reciepts. but there is no recall on the 04 trailblazer only on full size vehicles.so if i spent more money on an other venicle gm would fix it and make it safe. i feel it is unsafe for myself or my wife.

2004 chevy trailblazer all gauges, tachometer, speedometer, battery, fuel, have failed one at a time starting with tachometer not operating at all, to speedometer sporatic for several months, now currently stuck at over 120mph. have contacted dealer about problem and they say it is a very common problem in this model, there has been no recall for this issue and would be approx. $1500 to repair. why is gm not concerned with this issue?this is definately a safety issue to be driving at unknown speeds with an unknown fuel level, etc.---- absolutely obsurd!!!

The tach and speedometer does not function properly on my 2004 trailblazer. the speedometer occasionally works but 99% of the time tells me i'm going faster or slower than i am. i am currently using my gps, but as we all know with gps, it's not always available on moutains and it's not always 100% accurate so i basically guess how fast i am going when traveling through wv. i contacted gm dealer, no recalls that i am aware of but thousands of online post of this problem.

On 1/23/2011 i was on a trip, 77 miles from home, when my 2004 chevy trailblazer's instrument panel went crazy. i thought my engine would blow because the rpm guage went off the charts, then wouldn't read anything. then my speedometer did the same. i had no idea how fast i was going, on the interstate. i was worried, so i moved to the left lane, and stayed behind the slower traffic to be safe. when i got home, i stopped at my local chevy dealership where i was told that almost every trailblazer over 80,000 miles is having the same issues. the problem could be my instrument pannel computer, or one of everal bad modules. the can does not show any error code, so the cost to repair ranges from $600 to over $1500 depending on how long it takes your repair person to find the problem. after my diagnosis i was angry, i am tired of repairing items on this car. i went online to see if it was rare, or if anyone else had the problem, and an exact reair. on one website alone aboutautomobile.com i found over 1,300 trailblazer owners with the same problem. after further reasurch i have found almost 19,000 trailblazer complaints about the same problem. i do believe that all trailblazers will have this issue, and that gm should fix it, with a recall repair. i have sent complaints to gm, but no response has been given.

Gm is having an electrical issue on many 2004 vehicles resulting in gradual deteriation of instrument cluster performance. it starts with the speedometer failing, reading 120 mph while sitting at a red light. then the fuel guage, low fuel light will come on, then while driving to a fuel station it will slowly climb to 1/2 tank reading or more. next is the tachometer, it will bounce from 2000 rpm to over 6000 rpm (red line) also while sitting at stop sign or parked in a parking space. finally the oil and coolant temperature gauges read hot (past red line) at intial start up from sitting 12 hours in -3 degree weather. an online search has found numerous complaints of the same problem around the united states extending beyond the trailblazer to other vehicles. this same issue was recalled on gm trucks but the other vehicles. the vehicle operator has no acurate idea of mph, rpm, oil or water temperature and battery charge. the average repair cost to replace the bad computer board is $500 to $1000.

I have seen across many websites that the instrument panel on the 2004 chevrolet trailblazers malfunction. well, our vehicle is having the same issue. my mechanic says he has seen several similar problems and says it will cost about $600 to repair. he suggested contacting chevy, but i have seen that chevy is not interested in resolving the problem. i figured if they are getting enough complaints to the ntsb, maybe they will recall the equipment and i can get it properly repaired.

The problem is on my 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the entire dash gauges malfunction occassionally, from speedometer to battery gauge to oil pressure gauge to water temp gauge to rpm gauge. i am one of thousands of trailblazer owners who have this problem not only in the usa, but around the world, just read the forum on edmunds.com and you will see. i usually temporarily fix this problem but turning the vehicle on and off untill the gauges fully reset, but that puts a lot of strain on the starter. please open an investigation to trigger a recall because chevy dealers want us owners to shell out $100 to figure out the problem we already know and then want to gouge us for another $700-$1000 to fix. that is totally uncalled for, for a part on the vehicle which is vital to drivers, the instrument gauges.

Speedometer stuck/instrument panel on christmas day we were traveling to families house to celebrate the holidays. 1.5 hours into the trip, the speedometer went crazy and was at 90 when we were going 65. pulled over and when we stopped it increased to 120 mph. since we had another 3.5 hrs of our trip and it was unsure exactly what was wrong (since there were no dealership/service stations open), we turned around and went home. nice christmas that we had, not. on monday (the next day the dealership was open) i called to get an appt. and couldnt' get in until tuesday. went in tuesday and of course charged me a diagnostic fee, when i could tell from searching the internet what was wrong (by now the speedometer was straight down between 0 and 120). 1.5 hrs later the dealership tells me it is the instrument panel (surprise, surprise) and that they would have to order since they have none in stock. it would take 4-5 business days. the earliest we're looking at getting is next week, now 10 days past the day it happened. i asked the dealership for a loaner and they offered me enterprise rental for $40/day (my expense). they could offer me nothing else, sending me on my way. ok, chevy...since this is a huge problem, the least you could do is stock dealerships with the panels, especially since this is a large dealership. it is not safe to be driving around with no working speedometer. did i mention this is also my vacation week....nice, being stuck at home cause you have an inoperable vehicle. chevy needs to step up to the plate and make this right with their costumers. i have been a faithful owner since 1994. a $415 part/plus labor is ridiculous when there have been so many complaints, you need to recall this.

I own a 2004 chevy trailblazer; the tachometer, speedomoter and other gauges started to fluctuate and now the speedometer never works properly, the tachometer comes and goes and now the oil gauge is not showing the proper reading (i had it checked out to make sure i had oil and no other issues). i am told a new cluster board is needed at the cost of $600-$700. chevy is more than aware of this being a typical/known issue and i cannot understand why there has not been a recall on this forcing them to replace these cluster boards. i have purchased a gps which has the speedometer option so i know at what speed i am traveling; but if the oil and gas gauges go; i have no choice to fork over $6-700.00. why is chevrolet not being held accountable for faulty equipment they installed in their $37,000 vehicles? who else can i go to in attempts to get someone's attention to get chevrolet to take responsibility?

I bought a 2004 trailblazer with a factory installed tow package, including electric hookup. when i hooked it to a travel trailer, the tblazer sent to charge to the trailer for battery charge, interior lights, etc. the dealer, gold motors in newport, oregon, said there was no problem. however, it still refused to work. i took the car to a local mechanic. he discovered several wires in the box housing the wiring manifold at the front driver side of the engine were cross-wired. he straightened it out at the cost of two hours labor. if this is the standard quality of gm quality, they should be allowed to go bankrupt.

Fuel, engine temperature, tachometer not displaying correct data. fuel and temp gauge displays show needle pinned (below lower half of gauge) and tach sometimes does not work or shows zero at idle. this seems to be a common problem and occurance with this make and model. obviously, the most important is the gas gauge... not knowing exactly how much fuel is in the tank is hazardous and annoying. i have to guess when to fuel up, especially on longer trips.

I own a 2004 chevy trailblazer and the speedometer has progressively gotten to the point of being completely inoperable. the first time i noticed the speedometer read 120 mph when i was driving on the highway were the speed limit was 55 mph and i was driving with the flow of the traffic. i turned the car off and the speedometer still read 50mph. as of a month ago my fuel, oil, battery, and temp gauge are all inop; the needles never move. with this my battery, seatbelt, abs, and parking park stay illuminated. this is a safety concern because i never know how fast i'm going, how much fuel i have, if my car is running hot, i have no warning indication of anything going on with my vehicle.

Instrument cluster becoming unreliable, specifically the speedo and rpm. if the actual speed is 55 mph i will get one of three readings: the actual speed, a higher speed of any value, a lower or negative speed of any value. has been going on for more than a year. had heard that the 2004 avalanche had a recall on the instrument cluster and wonder if the two vehicles uses the same part.

The vehicles clusters will malfunction several times a week. for example the rpm gauge will stop functioning as will the oil pressure gauge and the fuel gauge will also malfunction. service engine light pops up once a month taken vehicle to shop but vehicle has nothing wrong with it. i believe it has to do with vehicles cluster that is constantly not working , it goes crazy all of a sudden. i have to replace the vehicles cluster for this problem to be corrected.

I too am a reluctant owner of a 2004 chevy trailblazer that constantly gets the irritating view of an instrument panel that has go haywire. sometimes these things work and sometimes they do not. i don't believe i have one working gauge in my trailblazer. it would be really gracious for those that are relying on our hard own dollars to give us a product worth spending on.

Trailblazer refused to charge the battery on the travel trailer. the dash lights occasionally flickered, then came back on strong. gm dealer could not find the problem. a local mechanic simply took the cover off the electrical distribution box at the front right of the engine, then pushed all the wires deeper into their contact sockets. that resolved the problems, at least until now. now the service engine light is on again, and it says it is for the pressure system.

There are several defects on chevy trail blazers mine in particular is with the instrument cluster panel because it stopped recording the speed, amount of gas in my vehicle, essential to driving safety, proper speed maintenance and ensuring it wont stall out due to lack of gas in the vehicle while on the freeway at high speeds. in addition the night lights turn off randomly while driving at night and that is dangerous to me and my children when driving at night which i do often to commute home from work. there are different dates for the defects the cluster panel gage was proximately 6 or 8 months old, the manufacturer was contacted they stated it was not hazardous to my driving and that since it was not under warranty due to being a 2004 the best they could do was 10% off, i felt it was a hazard at the time of the report they fixed an issue with the turn signals but now my headlights are turning on and off randomly at night and it is scary to be driving at night and your lights go off and you cant see a thing. the lights have been malfunctioning for the last 3 to 4 months have not reported it because of the lack of response by the manufacturer with prior issue

2004 chev trailblazer instrumentation panel cluster out speedometer gas oil pressure battery and rpm. 2 speeding tickets. speedo was off by 40 at the time, now does not work at all. no gas on freeway. and battery out caused a crash. chev dealership refuses to help although there is a recall for other chev products with simular problems. chev service department offers nothing and refuses to help or acknowledge anything wrong. this is a safety problem i am not the only one having this problem. please help force gm to recall the instrument cluster panel

My wife owns a 2004 chevy trailblazer and the instrument cluster is going haywire. we have already spent hundreds of dollars taking it to the dealership to have it fixed with no success. i am a pretty good mechanic, but not when it comes to all the electronics on cars these days. i refuse to take it back and get screwed out of more money. i guess this is how chevrolet is making up for their loss. i still can't believe that there is not a recall on this as of yet. the internet is loaded with complaints with this issue. i have always been a chevy man, but it looks like i may end up changing my loyality to another company. with as much as we have to pay for vehicles these days we should be receiving better service on them. i will be buying a used cluster off the internet and installing it myself. the dealership even wants a fortune to replace a part they should have a recall on anyway.

Haveing troubles with my 2004 chevy trailblazer gauge cluster. which worked spiratically then finally has stopped working completely. this seems to be a common unsafe problem in these vehicles. and ther is no recall on this particular model. but chevy does back its other models for this same problem. this is a major unsafe vehicle mishap. and there needs to be a recall placed on it!!!

2004 cheverolet trailblazer, speedometer will show a faster speed than you moving or will go to 0 while on the freeway. the tach has the same problem. this is a serious safety issue and it should be recalled now. i heard that they had the same issue on pick-ups and they were recalled.

The front air vents in my 2004 trailblazer quit working after i installed a new battery. my front air vents will no longer work. after researching this on the internet it appears that this is a common problem with the chevy trailblazer. it will require the purchase and installation of a new control module to regulate the air flow so the vents will work. this is a component/design problem that gm needs to fix not the consumer.

Speedometer started giving incorrect readings. sometimes it is correct, sometimes 10 mph off, sometimes not working at all. when it first happened i found myself doing over 80mph in a 65mph zone. i only found out from my son in the back seat with his gps leting me know how fast i was going. other wise dont' know what would have happned.

I have a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the instrument panel only works intermittently. i have checked the internet and this seems to be one of the most numerous complaints. i feel as if this present a safety hazard. since this is your job to protect the public from defective automobiles i feel you should investigate this matter. thank you. randall saltink

2004 chevy trailblazer instrument cluster problems. vehicle only has 70k miles. gauges frequently read incorrect readings. the coolant temperature gauge has taken a deep dive and has pegged out as far as it can go and does not move now. most instrument backlights have burned out preventing the speedometer and other gauges from being seen at night. very dangerous. quick search on internet results in a severe epidemic of this problem with all gm suv's. a class action lawsuit resulted in a nationwide recall for this problem for all similar vehicles but not the chevy trailblazer or gmc envoy. this seems to be a criminal act by gm. something needs to be done to protect owners of these vehicles.

2004 chevy trailblazer. instrument panel fails. no speedomenter, gas gauge, battery, oil, etc.
02/14/201060000
While using cruise control at highway speed the speedometer erratically increases. braking to a stop does not take the speedometer to zero. turning the vehicle off and restarting sometimes puts the speedometer needle to zero in five mile increments with each cycle. problem is reoccuring. vehicle is taken to the dealer and a cluster problem is diagnosed with estimated cost to be around $500. internet research reveals this to be more than a sporadic problem resulting in the manufacturer recalling a number of vehicle models but not the trailblazer. a call to gm's customer service department culminates only with a formal complaint being registered ... this too being the common end for owners of trailblazers (according to internet research) the problem is a potential safety hazard as when this occurs without warning one has to guage driving speed by surrounding traffic.

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) as long as your beating up on toyota, beat up on a company that real makes an inferior product. gmac. i have been researching this on the web and their are thousands of complaints for this very issue. i have a 2004 trail blazer. my odometer and speedometer start to slow down and then all of a sudden you look up and i am going negative rpms and negative mph while cruising down the highway. or the next time it will go fast than i am traveling. each morning though it starts out working correctly, then after about an hour it goes off again. once it goes off it stays off till the car has been shut down over night. loosing your speed while driving is dangerous. gm has been churning out cheap junk for years. light them up.  My speedometer and rpm dial have stopped working on my 2004 chevy trailblazer. i called the 800 number and the lady told me that i am not covered for their special provisioning for this known problem. that their special provisioning only covers vehicles 7yrs/70k mileage. i have over 90k miles and they are not willing to cover me. i can?t afford to pay for this to be fixed. i will never buy another chevy car i can?t believe there is no recall for this issue. there are 1000's of complaints online this should be a recall. *tr

Two years ago my wife and i were driving our 2004 chevy trailblazer on the interstate when our speedometer, oil gauge, tachometer, and voltmeter went out. we could not seem to figure out why everyone was passing by us so quickly when we were going the speed limit according to the speedometer. thankfully we had gps and were able to figure out quickly what was happening. this is a very dangerous problem. if we didn't have gps we would have absolutely no way of knowing how fast we were going. soon after this happened, the check engine light came on and we were having all kinds of electrical problems with sensors going bad. i have researched these problems and it seems as though we are not the only ones with this problem. gm has not issued a recall on this model for this problem, yet they did for the suburban line for the same problem. please, if you can, do something about this problem. we have yet to fix these problems hoping for a recall but have had no luck. we are now in the process of fixing these problems so we can pass inspection. thankyou very much. *tr

2004 chevy trailblazers instrument panel isn't working properly. the rpm gauge fluctuates and often doesn't work which seems to cause the speedometer to respond slowly. i have heard from others with the same issue that eventually the speedometer will quit as will the gas gauge, oil gauge, etc. this is a potential hazard that has not been recalled by chevy. other models of the same year have been recalled, but not the trailblazer. *tr

I've had issues with the odometer, gas and battery gauges for about a year. however, now the odometer drops and the car stalls and shuts off when i go to slow down. the check gauges light came on and off for a second. no other lights are on so i have no idea what this is. car has about 75,000 miles. *tr

I have a 2004 chevy trailblazer. my sister in law has a 2005 chevy trailblazer. my rpm dial ent crazy a year ago and now my speedometer is out. i have 82000 miles on it. chevy refuses to pay for the repair of $500. there are several others with this same problem. i have found many websites. this is and has been an ongoing problem. we need a recall. this is for trailblazers with the years of 2003-2005. i am not getting my problem fixed and i am sure there are many other instrument clusters that do not work on the highway. gm lost a lawsuit for the exact same year vehicles from 2003-2005 for the suburban, trucks, tahoes etc. my vehicle is also considered a truck and i am sure that same cheap part was used in my vehicle. this is definitely a problem part that needs to be recalled. please help! *tr

2004 chevrolet trailblazer that has intermittent lights going out while driving at night, speedometer has stopped working and gauges on panel only work occasionally. nearly had a wreck when the headlights went out going down the interstate at 75 miles per hour. i did not see a recall. i have seen on line this is a common problem. has there been a service recall i am unaware of? this is a safety issue. my wife and children ride in this vehicle. *tr

I have a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the speedometer, the fuel gauge and the tachometer no longer works on this vehicle. when i called the chevrolet customer service center, to check for a recall, i was told that there was no recall for the trailblazer. there was however a recall for the exact same problem on the chevrolet avalanche, tahoe and suburban. i just cant understand why chevrolet will not recall the trailblazer for the exact same problem. my speedometer sometimes registers to the point of seeing no numbers on the needle. the gas gauge rarely registers that i even have any gas. i have to keep up with my gas manually and with my trip odometer. i find this very disturbing that chevrolet will not recall the trailblazer. what can i do as a consumer to help chevrolet make this obvious problem right? *tr

Repeated instances of speedometer failing to read correct speed. often reads up to 120 mph while stopped. random behavior. has been occurring for last 8 months. can be temporarily corrected by repeatedly turning ignition on and off without starting engine. occurs when driving at normal highway speeds. speedometer continues to climb until it hits its limit at well over 120 mph regardless of actual speed or when stopped. very unsafe condition, particularly for people who are limited in their ability to judge speeds. *tr

2004 trailblazer, speedometer failed. needle sits at 60 mph when stopped, moves past 120mph as you drive. i consider it a safety issue if you are unable to monitor your speed.gm is repairing out of warranty 03/04 cadillac escalade, chevrolet avalanche, silverado, suburban, and tahoe; and gmc yukon for this same problem. i don't understand why trailblazer is not included.. *tr

I own a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer and the speedometer as well as all of the other gauges stopped working. i was driving down the road looked down and saw that the speedometer said i was traveling 100mph, which i knew i wasn't because i was in rush hour traffic. when i stopped at a traffic light the speedometer dropped down but got stuck on 55mph and now it will not move at all. i searched the internet for this problem and discovered that several other owners of the 2004 trailblazer had the same problems but chevrolet has failed to recognize this as a safety recall. i am requesting that this issue be brought up as a safety complaint due to this vehicle being our main transportation for myself and my family !! i am now in the process of getting price quotes from area automotive shops but i have read that the repair costs are from $400.00 to $800.00. i don't think i should have to pay this amount if chevrolet would recognize this as a safety hazard and just recall this certain problem. i also own a 2001 silverado and not too long ago i received a notice in the mail that there was a recall on the wire supports for the trucks tailgate(due to the current supports might break under the right circumstances). now i am wondering if a tailgate that i rarely use is a safety hazard then how is an instrument that is used to make sure you are operating your vehicle at a safe speed or making sure you do not run out of gas in the middle of the interstate not being recalled... thanks for all your help and concern in resolving this matter. *tr

In september 2009, my 2004 trailblazer started going haywire! it lost all power (while going down the interstate), the power/cigarette outlets stopped working, the doors started locking themselves (sometimes with the keys in the ignition) , the radio would go loud or stop working, my speedometer went nuts (like saying that i was doing 65mph, when i was at a complete stop or 120mph down the hwy), the service engine soon light would go on and off,and my heater will not blow out the vents in the dash. we have taken it to a mechanic. he tried everything from replacing the battery, fuel filter, and spark plugs. he even hooked it up to his scanner (which showed that there was nothing wrong with the car) all this and $700.00 later i still have the same problems. now i'm told that the electrical panel will need to be replaced at a cost around $500-$900!! if you look at carcomplaints.com you see that there are many more people like me with the same car and the same problems. this is a huge safety issue.how long will it be before someone pushes chevy into doing a recall? does someone have to be killed or kill someone else for this to happen? i was so glad to google car complaints and find that it wasn't just me that was having so many problems with this trailblazer. *tr

This trail blazer has been a lemon every since i bought it.first two batteries kept swelling up and smoking and then it wouldn't start. i replaced the alternator. then the motor threw a rod. i put another motor in it. then the check engine light came on. i took it and had it put on a machine to check it out. it cannot be checked because the machine reads that the computer is dead. it stalls every now and then and gets horrible gas mileage. i replaced the gas cap but it didn't help. now the transmission has went out of it. previously it automatically locked the doors when it was running locking me out. there should be a recall on all these electric problems. i do not have any money to fix these problems yet i have 16 more months to pay on this truck. i've always bought chevrolet's but i will never buy another one and so will a lot of other people. if they can't stand behind there vehicle's their no good for anything. all these different problems started at different dates. i also had to put a new exhaust system on it. i don't know how it is still running with the computer dead. *tr

I own a 2004 chevy trailblazer that recently has began to give me problems with the instrument panel not reading correctly. my speedometer sits at 0 even when i'm doing 65 mph. my tach reads the same. upon checking this out, i found that this is a ongoing problem with this particular vehicle that gm has no recall as of to date. other have issues with their gas, voltmeters and oip pressure gauges. i find these issues not only annoying but unsafe while going down the freeway not knowing if your speed is correct. the average cost of repairs for this is about $500 to $700. there are many of these cases going on with this particular vehicle. a safety recall would be nice. *tr

2004 chevrolet trailblazer speedometer is consistently incorrect. the speedometer will frequently reset the point of zero mph. e.g. zero will be set at 50 mph so when the vehicle is actually traveling 20 mph, the speedometer will read 70 mph. the only way to reset the point of zero is to turn the vehicle off and start the car over and over again, lowering the point of zero by about 5 mph at each vehicle start. *tr

Speedometer on my 2004 chevrolet trailblazer lt is displaying erratic readings. when the vehicle is parked the speedometer is showing the vehicle is moving at 40 mph. when driving at speeds approximately 40 mph the speedometers shows the vehicle is moving at 90 mph. multiple posts regarding this issue online. faulty instrument clusters on these vehicles. also, before the speedometer began showing erratic readings today, the speedometer didn't move smoothly. when accelerating the speedometer moved one tick at a time, similar to how the second hand on a clock moves. the next time i got in the car after this happened is when the speedometer started showing inaccurate speed ratings. this is a safety issue since you can not tell how fast the vehicle is traveling. my vehicle currently has 65,000 miles. i purchased it 2.5 years ago when it had 29,000 miles at carmax. i haven't had the vehicle repaired yet, but all posts i have read online indicate that the entire instrument panel will need to be replaced. *tr

I purchased a 2004 chevy trailblazer lt v6, and my gauges fluctuate so much that i do not know how fast i'm going, if i really need gas, if my engine is running hot or not...i'm afraid to drive the vehicle. i started to rent cars when i needed to travel out of town, because i was concern about making it to my destination as well as coming back home safely. i have been so upset and trying to figure out what to do. i start looking for a company/group to hear my cry...as i surfed the internet, i found several interesting stories similar to my complaint and nothing has been done to correct the problem. i will not be purchasing another gm product anymore, because as a consumer, i deserve to have a problem fixed/solved if i purchase a product or service from an organization. i hope and pray that no one gets hurt or killed as a result of this problem with the chevy trailblazer vehicles. i would love to get my vehicle fix without having to pay $500-800, because frankly i do not have that kind of money to spend. thanks for all your help!! *tr

My daughter drives a 2004 chevy trailblazer. she was driving home from college the other day when the engine suddenly cut off on the highway. she still had use of the gas pedal and steering but all other functions stopped. fortunately, she was in heavy traffic, going slowly and was able to roll to a stop on the shoulder. after about 5 minutes, she was able to restart the vehicle and drove the rest of the way home without incident. since my husband and i decided that it was too dangerous for her to drive back to school, we took the car in for service. i might add that there was a recall of this vehicle in 2007 (?) that involved corrosion in the fuel tank modular reservoir assembly. this recall item was replaced by chevrolet when we took it in for service but the technician said it probably had nothing to do with the incident on 10-9. so, after extensive additional diagnostics and a few test drives, chevy technicians said they could find nothing further wrong with the vehicle and were unable to duplicate the incident. additional information: we bought the car from carmax approximately 1.5 years ago. i should also mention that the same thing has happened at least two times prior to the october 9, 2009 incident, but at the time, it just seemed like a glitch. in the past few days, i have been on the internet reading about many similar incidents (among other troubling flaws with this car) with the 2004 chevy trailblazer. in some cases, the vehicles were going at high speed when they shut down. here are the links: http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2004/chevrolet/trailblazer http://www.carcomplaints.com/chevrolet/trailblazer/2004/electrical/gauges_fluctuate.shtml i am terrified that this will happen again and that the outcome will not be good. could you please tell me why has there not been a recall on this vehicle for what appears to be an extremely dangerous condition. *tr

Speedometer is inoperable. tachometer works occassionally. oil gauge is now starting to fail. there are only 41,000 miles on this vehicle and it is not only inconvenient to operate this vehicle without a speedometer, it is unsafe. speedometer was the first gauge to go, then the tachometer began to faulter and the oil gauge followed. tach sometimes resets itself to zero and may work for a week before it begins to fail again. there was no specific event leading up to the instrument cluster failure. it just began one gauge at a time. i have had it looked at by two seperate mechanics and was told that instrument failure in this type of vehicle is very common although no recall has been issued to correct this problem. i can have it repaired for $500.00 - $1000.00. anything that you can do will be greatly appreciated. *tr

I have a 2004 chevy trailblazer that has faulty gauges. a few months ago my trailblazer speedometer became inoperative, and it currently points straight down. same goes with my oil gauge. it has been estimated between 500-600 dollars to repair, but after research, i have found many consumers have done this for the same problem to resurface. i feel that not knowing what speed you are going poses a major threat to my family, myself and anyone else on the road. please resolve this issue. *tr

2004 chevy trailblazer speedometer shows incorrect speed. actual speed about 30mph. shows 80>120, also shows 120mph when sitting still. various incorrect speeds very high mph when actual speeds 20>65.. ongoing problem for past several years. daughter drove vehicle and reported to dealerships but they wanted to charge extravagant amounts to fix it. she couldn't afford it and nor could i. we drove it as is. *tr

2004 chevrolet trailblazer lt.. my gauges for oil, speedometer, water are not working at times. the speedometer will say i am doing 90 when in fact i am only going 35 mph if that! i don't use the highway much, more city driving and i see that my trailblazer is not the only one will this problem. i really feel that a recall needs to be done by gm on this problem. other trailblazer owners have been reporting this problem since 2006. i have been told by my gm dealership that it will be about $600 to correct this problem. can someone please make gm listen to us owners and issue a recall. thank you! *tr

2004 chevrolet trailblazer ls: 76k miles 1. instrument panel intermittently malfunctions under normal operating conditions, the speedometer will not register correct speed and will move past 120 mph when in park (needle pointing straight down), sounds like a popping or crackling noise from instrument panel at times. i thought this problem was more prone to happen more with very cold or very hot temperature outside but now also happens no matter what the temperature is outside. only way i have found to get speedometer back to zero is to start engine and turn off engine after minute or so - this process could take starting/re-starting 20 to 30 times to get speedometer back to zero. bad for starter and consumes too much gasoline to continue doing this. 2. service engine soon light comes on intermittently under normal operating conditions. all electrical (lights, radio, a/c, etc.) cut offs and engine cuts off when driving under normal conditions - sometimes this occurs while driving and sometimes occurs when slowing to stop at a traffic light. at times i will smell a burning smell like something electrical is burning. i immediately pull over, turn off the car and check under the hood but cannot see anything burning however i smell it. after the vehicle sits for a few minutes it can be restarted and i do not smell the burning smell. i am a single mom with college/high school children (ages 25, 22, 17) living at home and i have a 7 month old grandchild at home. i am on a very limited budget and do not have money to repair either of these problems as the vehicle is out of warranty. both of these issues are safety issues. there are tons of complaints regarding chevy trailblazers on the internet. when will gm be held accountable for manufacturing and selling lemons!?! gm needs to accept responsibility and repair these lemons - the consumer's safety is at stake here. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving 10-15 mph, the vehicle started to loose power. occasionally the vehicle shut off, the battery and rpm gauges also stopped working. the contact feels is aware of the safety risk since the vehicle shut off without warning which could result in a crash. the current mileage was 90,000 and the failure mileage was 70,000.

Had p0128 code for about 1 year. replaced thermostat after p1680 code, reduced engine power light came on. reduced engine power light went away on next crank up to move vehicle and change thermostat. abs and brake lights both on intermittently. tachometer has been sticking and speedometer showed erratic signs around 55 mph. now all gauges going wacko or not working at all at times. temperature gauge wrapped completely around without even starting cold engine. about a mile later, instrument panel lit completely up then went away, gauges reset, and ran fine with properly operating instrument panel... at least until i got home. then wacko stuff again. reset pcm by disconnecting battery cable, now things seem fine... for now. i'm told to redo bad ground on ecbm before suspecting bad abs module and to replace ignition switch before suspecting bad instrument cluster and pcm. however, dealer analysis said abs module got moisture in it and the instrument panel needs to be replace. first is a $1000 abs module, second is a $400 panel, both have labor charges additional. *tr

Speedometer is inaccurate. when standing still, it could read 100mph. when 55mph, it may read 20mph. i've heard many trailblazers have this problem. makes it very difficult to drive the correct speed limit. too in areas where it's dangerous or too slow also causes problems with people trying to pass. help! *tr

Purchased my trailblazer brand new in 2004 and started having problem with the instrument cluster in may of 2007 the speedometer has stopped working the battery and oil gauges are not reading and the rpm gauges works at random. i taken the truck back to the dealership and was told ir would be $400 to repair and it not covered under any warranty work. i'm also having a problem with the headlight working at random. they will work but cut off while i'm driving at night. i feel both issues need to have a mass recall on all 2002-2007 trailblazers. *tr

Since 2007 my instrument panel cluster of my 2004 chevrolet trailblazer (which i purchased brand new in 2004 from dealership) goes on and off some days it works and some days it does not. i could be driving down the road and all of the lights on the dash and gauges go out. i am unsure at times how much gas is in my car and just have to estimate and fill the tank. i attempted to have the dealership help me out because i purchased an extended warranty but they were bought out by another dealer. i wrote to chevrolet and they refused to help me out. i am unable to pay the $700 to $800 they have quoted me to pay to have it fixed. there are several other vehicles with this problem so it should be recalled by chevrolet. i feel this is a safety issue because all of the lights go out sometimes at night so i have refrained from driving at night very much. *tr

2004 chevy trailblazer has significant electrical system issues. the tachometer is inconsistent and will read 1000 rpm when you know the engine is at least 3000. also, similar problems with other gauges. sometimes they work for a few days, and then don't. also, constantly needs jumped. just got a new battery two weeks ago, and already won't turn over. good connections and clean terminals, but for whatever reason the electrical system drained the battery. this has been non-stop! none of this covered by dealership! *tr

We have a 2004 chevy trailblazer. all gauges but the tachometer completely stop working. they will work in the morning, but when i leave work they stop working. this has started happening more and more frequently. i have to rely on my tachometer on how fast i am going. i don't know when that will stop working. this is not safe and also i have read many reports from other trailblazer owners that have had the same problem. i think there should be a recall on these gauges. *tr

I own a 2004 chevy trailblazer which started giving me problems almost as soon as the warranty was over. most of the gauges (speedometer, tachometer, battery indicator, etc...) in the instrument panel are not functioning or function only sporadically and erratically. also the air bag light stays on continuously. i have been reading online that this is a fairly common problem on this vehicle and that gm even sued (and won) the instrument panel manufacturer. however no recall has been issued on trailblazers, meanwhile other gm vehicles (i.e. chevy silverado) that uses the same instrument panel and thereby has the same problems have been recalled. general motors should not be allowed to exhibit this kind of behavior and a recall should be issued to every vehicle they built which used this faulty and failure prone instrument panel. sincerely, outraged trailblazer owner. *tr

My 2004 trailblazer speedometer keeps going out. i have had it reset several times and within a few days it is back to the needle pointing at 100 while in park. this problem started while i was driving the vehicle. i noticed it when i realized that i was the slowest person on the interstate. it is may 2009 and it is now a bigger problem than ever. i would have to replace the instrument cluster at 800.00 to repair this and then it may work for a little while but, all my research indicates that it won't fix the problem. *tr

Driving on dry pavement, clear day. took freeway offramp, when i reached 40mph, the brakes locked up, went past stop sign into other highway missing other vehicle passing in front of offramp. happened twice at same speed, brakes lock up, and i pass through the stop sign. loud grinding noise coming from wheel well area, brakes recently changed about 3 months ago, noise occurs at 25-30 mph, sounds like dragging something underneath. service man checked, nothing visible. has occurred 5 times in less than 2 months. interior lights dim on vehicle then brighten constantly. door ajar light constantly coming on, back hatch window constantly opening on own driving down road. instrument panel knobs, panel itself and window and door buttons on doors extremely hot to touch. various lights on instrument panel quit working and then resume on their own. reported tach/odometer not working already. both units registering offline while driving. where are the fixes to these problems? *tr

I purchased a 2004 chevy trailblazer in august of 2004. over two years ago my speedometer started to fluctuate showing i was going 10 miles an hour while i was in the fast lane on the freeway going at least 65. after months of fluctuating it stopped working. i now have 84,000 miles on my car. i am guessing the speedometer it went out around 65,000. i do not feel that a car that is only 5 years old should have a speedometer that won't work anymore. i found that there are many people out there that have the same problem with other models besides the trailblazer. i called my local gm dealer and they advised that there is no recall on this issue. i cannot afford to have this fixed. this is a safety issue that gm should be responsible for fixing. *tr

I also have a 2004 trailblazer that the gauges stopped working. it started out with miss-reading the speed, as in reading higher than the actual speed. like going 120 mph when really going 25 mph. now it is currently stuck with the needle pointing straight at neutral. then just last week. my low fuel light came on. the next time i started the truck it was up to 1/2 a tank and as i drove it went to 3/4 then 10 miles later it slowly dropped back to 1/4 then the light came on again and then back to a 1/4 of tank. this is an on going problem with these trucks. i know 3 other people with trailblazers and 2 of them are having the same problem. the dealership told me it would run about $850 to fix and needless to say it has not been. they are off their brains. this needs to be a recall. *tr

The speedometer and tachometer in my 2004 chevy trailblazer stopped working a few months ago. i have made several attempts to work out a solution to this problem with chevy, to no avail. i took it to the dealer to run a diagnostic test as requested by chevy, the test showed the cluster is bad. over the course of several conversations with chevy, i was told they are aware of an existing problem with the clusters, but are not going to do anything about it. i did a lot of research about this on the internet and have found that i am not the only one with a faulty cluster. this seems to be a common problem with the 2003 & 2004 chevy models. chevy admitted this to me, and are fixing some models, but the trailblazer is not one of them. i really don't understand! there are two class action suits, that i found on the internet, chevy is fixing the vehicles in those two states, but what about the ones of us who don't live in those states? i have not made the repairs to my vehicle, i bought a gps to keep me within the speed limit. any help you can offer is appreciated!!! thank you for your time. *tr

We are having the same safety issue as so many others are having with our 2004 trailblazer. the gauges do not work properly...particularly the tachometer and speedometer, but also include our headlights and radio which both occasionally flashing out for a second or so. this started happening around 47,000 miles. and since we are filing this complaint we may as well mention how our rotors and brake pads completely broke down at around 48,000 miles. *tr

For the past several months we have been experiencing difficulty with the gauges on our 2004 chevy trailblazer. initially the speedometer was malfunctioning but we found that if we stopped the engine and restarted it, it would reset itself. over time, it has been unable to reset and currently reads 120mph while idle. additionally, the other gauges have begun to malfunction as well. the gas gauge does not work at all and the battery and oil temp gauges work on occasion. it is our understanding this is a problem on chevy trailblazers from 2002-2004, however a recall on the parts have only been called on the 02 and 03 models, not the 04. although we have not had any accidents or received any tickets from this product failure, we have ran out of gas and had to use another device to keep track of our speed. *tr

I purchased a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer in 2007. after a few months the speedometer started to stick. soon after the rest of the gauges have gone completely inoperable. i have no idea how fast i am going or how much gas i have left or how hard the engine is working. no none of my rear lights function. i have gotten pulled over 4 times and i fear its a matter of time before a the rest of the electrical system completely shuts down and an accident occurs. i have seen a multitude of complaints but no recall. i purchased the vehicle with 41245 miles on the odometer and now reads 76411. impossible since i was deployed to iraq for 8 months and have owned the vehicle for less than 2 years without major commutes. *tr
12/15/2007550001
At approximately 55,000 miles i noticed my speedometer clicking at 5mph intervals. the problem persisted when i was pulled over going 10mph over the speed limit when it appeared i was going the posted speed. the problem got worse when my speedometer started sticking, and finally rotating all the way passed top speed back to zero. this malfunction spread to my tachometer where it shows i am traveling at more than more than 11,000 rpms at cruising speeds on the highway. then my gas gauge began to malfunction. the reading put me at nearly 200% capacity, making it impossible to know how much fuel i had. so i began using my odometer to gauge my fuel until i noticed my odometer reading 2-4 tenths of a mile every 1/10. i have already received 2 speeding tickets due to this problem. it is only a matter of time before i am stranded out of gas. i see there are plenty of complaints from consumers with the same problem. i have no idea of any related deaths or injuries due to this problem, but this is obviously a gm defect not related to regular scheduled maintenance that should be taken care of by the manufacturer. not only can this issue only be repaired by a dealership at outrageous fees (estimated $550), but their defective part is now giving a faulty odometer reading which against missouri state law. *tr

First when i bought my certified pre owned trail blazer the tachometer went out and pointed straight down then a couple months later my whole instrument cluster went completely hay wire. the speedometer, tach, oil pressure, gas gauge, everything needed to effectively drive has gone wrong. i cannot tell if i am speeding, if i am out of fuel , if my engine will over heat and this is all very dangerous on the highway, i worry constantly. i have taken it in to be fixed but cannot afford it because i am paying for my college. this is a very common problem with these vehicles and gmc/chevy should do something to fix this safety hazard. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact smelled a strong odor of gasoline coming from the vehicle. in addition, the engine warning indicator illuminated sporadically on the instrument control panel. she took her vehicle to the dealer and they stated that fuel vapors were leaking and collecting on top of the module. the failure caused fuel to spill onto the ground. the contact would have to pay $1,300 to have the vehicle repaired because it was not registered in a salt belt state. secondly, she noticed that the gauges on the instrument panel were inoperative and displayed inaccurate information. the dealer stated that the vin was not included in the manufacturer's recall for the instrument control panel; therefore, she would have to pay $550 to repair the component. currently, no repairs have been made. the failure mileage was 66,000 and current mileage is 73,000. updated 3/11/09 *cn updated 03/13/09. *jb

The engine temperature and battery charge meter are inoperative, the needles point down (off the gauge). the speedometer and tach gauges also work intermittently. the dealer offered to replace the entire instrument cluster for approx $700, but this part is not under any kind of original or extended warranty. this same part was recalled on several other gm models, but not including the trailblazer. not having a temperature gauge and speedometer has potentially seriously dangerous consequences, gm needs to recall and replace this part immediately. *tr

The speedometer on my 2004 chevrolet trailblazer displays a reading of 120 mph and over when traveling at normal speeds on highway (middle lane, many other cars passing on left). this was reported to a car dealer who informed me that the instrument panel needs to be replaced (at my cost). *tr

I own a 2004 chevy trailblazer with 56k mileage. in december 2008, the speedometer stopped working. i would be at stop, and the needle showed 80 mph. i brought the car to the dealership right away and they told me that the cluster needs to be replaced - but they needed to order the replacement part. i finally got it fixed a week later and it cost me approximately $525. now, for the past two weeks, the engine had suddenly shut off in the middle of driving. the reduced power & check engine lights came on. both times, it started back up after i parked it, turned off the ignition, and re-started. but after the second time, i brought it in to the dealership. i had to have the accelerator pedal replaced. cost me approx $360. these two issues are very concerning with me because if i were driving at higher speed (65mph) in the middle of the highway (instead of 30mph around town), i could have died from contacts with other vehicles because my vehicles stopped functioning! *tr

All within the last few months i have had to replace the complete drivers side low beam headlight and electrical pigtail because it caused an electrical short that burnt the wires. a few weeks later driver's side rear stop light quit working, i had to replace the bulb, next, the blower motor won't work on 5...and it won't transfer from defrost to vents...so, i am currently replacing the blower motor resistor and the red wire is fried because it appears not to have been pushed all the way in from the factory, (i have taken a picture of it)and now i have to replace the entire wiring harness...i'm really starting to hate chevy...especially when i browsed through all the complaints... is there ever any resolve? i think most of the issues i /we have are all safety issues...would you handle things differently on your end if someone you know and love was in this type situation where they were concerned for their safety as well as the public's safety!!!! *tr

The speedometer is malfunctioning. it will sometimes read 110 when i am only going 20. i have talked to a mechanic and they said it is the instrument cluster and it will cost about 500.00 to fix it. he said he has had several complaints for this same issue on his model. i have seen several complaints on it on the internet and i think a recall should be issued. sometimes the speedometer stops working at all and this is very big problem. i don't think i should have to pay to get this fixed when it is a manufacturer issue and i think a recall should be issued. please help.... *tr

2004 chevy trailblazer dashboard gauges and speedometer work intermittently. electrical problem requires a new instrumentation cluster, which runs $600. while searching online, i've noticed that there are many others who experiencing the very same problems with their trailblazers. faulty gauges are a nuisance, but a speedometer malfunction is an entirely different matter. i'm am checking with chevy tomorrow concerning an existing recall, but was not offered a recall repair when the dealer originally troubleshoot the problem. if no recall exists, it should. a trend exists that needs to be examined and corrected by gm. *tr

About 10,000 before the factory warranty ran out, the speedometer got stuck at about 60mp so it read that much higher than actual speed. after a few times of starting the vehicle the speedometer reset itself, so when we took it in to the chevrolet dealership they couldn't duplicate the problem and they wouldn't cover the problem. it eventually kept getting higher and higher until it was stuck and didn't read the speed at all. now the dealer says it is a faulty instrument cluster and want to charge me $500+ to fix. i believe this is a serious safety issue and chevy should issue a recall on the 2004 trailblazers. *tr

I have a 2004 chevy trailblazer, the rpm gauge stopped working and it has slowly progressed to the oil gauge and now the speedometer reads way off the charts. i see through some internet searching that this is a recurring problem with these vehicles. i have not had this problem repaired as of yet, as i feel with this being such a safety issue and such a repeated problem with the chevy. trailblazer that chevrolet should issue a recall. *tr

I own a 2004 chevy trailblazer, both the tach and speedo operate erratically. the speedo is of particular concern, the erratic reading indicates the wrong vehicle speed, mant times is reads 20 - 40mph to low which can lead driving hazard. this is significant safety issue. research on the internet shows this a very significant problem on these vehicles, with the incident rate a magnitude higher than normal / acceptable failure rates. *tr

The interior vents stopped working and would only go to 3 max on the dial. that was 1000 dollars to repair. the rpm gauge went out next, now the speedometer stopped working and the battery doesn't hold a charge. i have had this car for two years and it is beginning to cost a lot for repairs. i had to buy a battery and am repairing the gauges at $600. these are all new parts. i feel at this point someone needs to look into this complaint. most people aren't repairing the speedometer because it is so costly, but i think this is a hazard. check out this website for more complaints: http://www.carcomplaints.com/chevrolet/trailblazer/2004/electrical/gauges_fluctuate.shtml we are all having the same problems and no one is doing anything about it. *tr

In august 2008 my speedometer started to malfunction. it would not work for a few days and then go back to normal. by october it quit working at all. my service engine light also stays on. i have also experienced some power surges that seem to affect the lighting system. i also had to problem commented on by several people with the low beam lights going out. i checked all the fuses and they were in working order. i took the vehicle to the dealership and they said the bulbs were blown and replaced them. i questioned that statement somewhat because i had replace one of the bulbs not a month earlier. the lights have worked fine since except for power surges. *tr

I have owned my trailblazer for about 1 1/2 years. in the last year my gauges are not working. i don't know how fast i am going, i don't know if it over heats because it is stuck in the hot, i don't know if my oil pressure is to high and if my motor will blow up. it only has 66,800 miles on it. from what i heard gm says it is not their problem, but yet they issued recalls for dash clusters for other models for the same exact reason. i can not afford to have it fixed, it is a defect that gm should own up to. it is also a safety issue if the gauges don't work for me to know that something is wrong and leaves me and my family setting in the middle of nowhere. plus i can't even trade and get the value out of it because of this problem. all in all somebody needs to step up and force gm to fix this problem that they made. *tr

The speedometer in my 04 trailblazer started acting crazy. one minute it was reading fine, then said i was going 100 mph. i have talked with the dealership, but all they have to say is that they are aware of the problem, but no recalls yet. i have tried contacting gm on this problem but seem to get no where. the service guy at the dealership said they would fix it, but i would have to pay the hefty 500-600 bill. with all the complaints that are out there, i feel that gm should do something about this. why are they being lazy? someone could really get hurt, or even get ticketed for not knowing how fast they are going. i have been driving my truck like this since march 08. *tr

I purchased a used 2004 chevy trailblazer in february 08. it only had 23,000 miles on it. with in the first 2 weeks i had it my gauges started going crazy. they were jumping around all over the place. i took it back to the dealer to have it fixed and they tried to charge me. fortunately i must have complained enough and to the right person because it was replaced at no charge to my self. i now am having major problems with it stalling and trying to stall. after searching the internet i see that i am not alone there are hundreds of complaints about this problem. everyday upon start up it idles very rough and it tries to stall for a good 10 minutes. if i don't let it sit and idle before i drive it tends to stall. my check engine light will flicker at least once a day and every few days my reduced engine power light will flicker. i do not feel safe anymore. what if i am traveling and my car stalls and i lose control and from reading the other complaints i am at risk for my air bags not deploying. if it is a problem with the pcm, i don't have the money to fix it!!!!! why should i have too? i see that i am not alone with this problem. why is their nothing being done about it? why should us as consumer already paying enough for these vehicles be responsible for their mistakes? *tr

The instrument cluster in my 2004 chevy trailblazer functions erratically if at all. this behavior began a few weeks ago when the tach went crazy and eventually just quit, the needle now just sits at the bottom of the instrument and wiggles occasionally. the speedometer is erratic in that at times it will just quit and read o -10 mph when i know i am going a lot faster than that (freeway speeds). the cruise control is so unpredictable i don't dare use it anymore. it speeds up for no apparent reason and i am afraid i won't be able to turn it off. what can be done about these issues. all in all otherwise we like the vehicle but the problems with the instrument panel are making us think about getting rid of it. *tr

Intermittent headlight and voltage problems, the vehicle is a 2004 trailblazer, the problem began in the fall of 2004...headlights and voltage gauge would dim and drop, would continue to do this intermittently...dealership replaced the alternator twice..also the dash has been replaced once due to the voltage spikes caused by this...the last time i took it in the service manager told me that gm had issued a bulletin on this saying it was the nature of the beast that it was caused by a secondary smog pump that was supposed to come on only when the vehicle was 1st started...but could also keep kicking in and out causing a severe voltage draw...my truck now has 50,000 miles on it, am afraid these voltage spikes will take out another dash, i feel gm has a serious defect with this and feel this a serious safety issue as the headlights all but go out at low speeds, the dealership here has done all that gm will allow them to do according to them. *jb

I have a 2004 chevy trailblazer. early last month i discovered my speedometer meter not stopping at 0 mph when i approached a traffic light. it stopped at 20 mph. this meant the speedometer was indicating a speed faster than i was actually going. when i turned the vehicle off that evening and back on the next morning, it reset and returned to 0 mph. as the month progressed, the speedometer indicator continued exhibiting this problem. this problem has caused the indicator to exceed passed the 120 mph indicator. the only resolution has been to continuously turn the car off and back on. depending on where the indicator stops will dictate how many times i'll have to turn the car off and back on to get the indicator back to 0 mph. *nm

2004 chevy trailblazer electrical system has serious problems. in the rather short time i have owned it, it has been in the dealer repair 7 times for the same group of problems. the outside mirrors keep pointing to the sky randomly causing brief confusion when they are needed for safety. the pre-set memory keeps clearing itself. the headlights and dash lights often go very dim and flicker causing distraction to the other drivers and fear in the driver operating this vehicle. the driver's side heated seat stopped working. the passenger side door window controls randomly stop working. turning off the vehicle and restarting it is the only way to correct it. all of these items have been looked at by the dealer but no solution has been found. several computer reprogramming and parts have been replaced but the problems still remain. the dealer does not acknowledge that information posted on the internet by other owners of this vehicle is valid. that is bull~h@t !they seem reluctant to continue troubleshooting it. my greatest fear is that it ends up burning to the ground like many other owners have reported. something has to be a common problem for all of these electrical issues with these vehicles. *nm

I bought vehicle in october 2003. it is a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. in the months following i began having electrical problems . check engine light would flash on and then went off again. the first time it happened car stalled as well. i would bring it in to the dealership and they would say that they could not duplicate the problem, and they hooked up to the computer and didn't find any problems. i also had my headlights flicker when accelerating and decelerating. i have had numerous problems with my blinkers. i have had the tail light assemblies replaced twice. i recently took it again because my left blinker would flash much faster when i touched the brake. also, if i just touched the brake the right blinker light on my console would illuminate. also, it looked as if i had my lights on for reversing while i was driving, which was extremely unsafe as other drivers thought i was reversing when i was going forward. i have had 4wd light come on and then turn off again later. i have had my main computer replaced twice and my flasher computer replaced once. i had to have my keys reprogrammed twice and they finally found out today i had faulty electrical wiring which was supposedly causing the trouble with the brakes and flashers. i have brought it in for this problem 3 times in the last couple weeks. i also have a problem with the gas tank overflowing everything i fill up no matter what i do and i am not trying to top off. also, i have had several problems with my seat belts and have them replaced as well. they would lock and i would be unable to get it one to drive the car safely. i had to drive my car to the dealership with no seat belt. overall, these problems amount to a poorly made very expensive car that leaves me feeling unsafe in my car. please make chevrolet listen to its consumers and pay restitution. we were all lied to by the car manufacturer, who had to have known it was producing an inferior product.*ak

While driving headlights dim very low to the point that you can not see. doesn't happen every time. dashboard lights also go very low. vehicle taken in to dealership in april. tech says can not duplicate problem. car taken in again this time cd player will stop playing if volume is turned all the way down for more that 2 mins. in order to make it play again you have to eject cd and reinsert. radio was suppose to be ordered never received it. car taken in again this time different dealership found problem with radio and it was replaced asked for them to check headlights because problem still happens. they also cannot duplicate problem. after leaving dealership cd players stops play again. sept 28, 2005 while at bank drive through car stalls out, able to restart car. took vehicle to dealership told them about the stalling out, headlights, and cd player. after having my car there a week and 3 days there conclusion was that the stalling out was because the was carbon build up in throttle body this was cleaned out. my car has 19,000 miles and is a year old i don;t believe this is the problem. while there a new cd player was put in, i was told that the one that was replaced before was a refurbished one and it didn't surprise them that it didn't work. the headlights we were told that we were crazy at first and then after speaking with the service manager was told that my vehicle has california emissions which means we have a 2nd air intake on it that causes the alternator to drain causing the lights to dim. gm has told us this is normal!!!!!! i am sorry i am not willing to put my family lives on the line because i happen to buy a new car in virginia that was made in california. i leave in a rural area not the city so if i lose my headlights then that means i can't see. this doesn't mean anything to them. we do have a meeting in nov with the northern area manager. this is not a normal operation of a car nor should it be designed to do this. *nm

 (1) driving on a straight road, very frew street lights, few bumps but not many. 2) while driving, noticed the lights dimming and becoming bright again while on low beam. it appeared as if i was flipping between low beam and lower beam (if there was one). during this time, i noticed the dash lights would become dim, but still very visible. watching the voltage meter, that did not move at all and remained slightly above 14 volts. no other equipment (radio, etc) made any type of noise or indication that any voltage has dropped. i've had the vehicle for approx. 5 mos and this has happened very sporadically, but just recently it continued happening for approx. 10 minutes striaght until i stopped and shut the vehicle off. (3) nothing was done at this time. it was brought to the dealership and they were unable to reproduce, hence they would not do anything to fix this safety issue.*ak

The home security (automatic garage door opener) system has been failing in my trailblazer. a few days ago were leaving the house for dinner, i opened the garage door with the manual button just inside the garage. approximately 1 minute later i began pulling out of the garage when i suddenly backed into my garage door. confused about the situation i pulled the trailblazer back in and got out to investigate. the garage door had closed approximately half way and hit the tailgate just below the wiper blade causing several deep scratches. i managed to pop the garage door back into the rails and bend the aluminum pieces back in place so that the door is now serviceable. now late for an appointment i got back inside the truck and the door began to close again. this has now been happening quite frequently. it is my belief that there is some kind of a short or something in the electronics that cause the automatic garage door opener to send a signal when someone closes the door. i now have an estimate for over $500 in paint and repairs which i am eager to have fixed, but not if this keeps happening. i've contacted my dealer and he has told me how to deprogram my opener but i am holding off until i can have an insurance agent or someone from the dealership look at the problem. *ak

Occasionally, there was a burning smell inside the vehicle. the electrical system had caused the radio, fuses and navigation system to fail and shut down the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer six times, but the cause was still undetermined. *jb

I was at a stop sign turning right. the trail blazer was in a4wd. i took off rather quickly and the service 4wd light came on. the light stayed on until i got home (a 20 min drive). once the trailblazer was turned off, the light did not come back on. i took the trailblazer to the chevy dealership. the service department stated they did not find a code.the service department stated that the light must not have been on long enough for it to register anything wrong or it's possible that it might register later. the receipt states: transmission work - job #1 - service 4x4 lite on. check for codes. check over updates. reprogram pcm with latest updates. courtesy inspection - job#2 - 27 point courtesy inspection. trailblazer was bought 10/31/04 and has 3,700 miles.*ak

Major electrical problems inside the vehicle. i have owned it less than a year.the vehicle has been in the shop twice in the past two weeks. exiting the freeway the i had a complete power failure. the vehicle completely stopped and locked up and there was a semi truck behind me! my vehicle was moving and in drive when this happened. i had two of my toddlers in the car with me! the vehicle was taken into a local dealer and unfortunately they could not find anything wrong with it. apparently, when the vehicle is restarted it erases the codes in the engine as to what caused the problem. well, it happened to me again this evening. same problem. this will be my 5th time of bringing this vehicle in for electrical problems in less than a year. i only have 9400 miles on the vehicle and bought it brand new. i do not feel safe driving this vehicle with my 5 children as passengers. is there a way gm can get me a better running vehicle? i paid a lot for this vehicle and am very unsatisfied with it's performace. there always seems to be something wrong with it. the connell chevrolet service here in killeen has been very helpful. i feel sorry for them because they did not sell me this vehicle but they are the ones nice enough to try and fix the multiple problems.*ak

On 4 separate occasions vehicle stalled. when this occurred consumer tried to restart vehicle, but it wouldn't restart. also, keys were stuck in the ignition. as a result, battery was drained. dealership has replaced automatic transmission shift lock control, battery fuses , programmed the calibration for the engine control module, the starter, and its relay switch. *ak

Service engine soon light would flash on then immediately off, truck would feel like it momentarily lost power while driving. recently the fuses for all the gauges have been blowing out repetitively. the speedometer does it more than the others. have replaced them several times in the past three months. chevy was helpfully guessing at first but finally told us there was nothing they could do towards the end of our 3 year warranty. we haven't taken it back to them for the ongoing problems. *tr

The check engine light and the reduced engine power light came on the first time and the truck had no acceleration. there was a code recorded when service was performed and pcm was reprogrammed. the next 3 times the check engine light came on and the truck would only accelerate if the rpm's reved up to 2, then the truck would move very slowly. the problem they found this time was a faulty ingition switch (2 times) a program upgrade of the motherboard of the truck, and the tork converter clutch module. windshield wiper blades stopped working during a snow/rain storm.*ak

While driving on the freeway with my family the speedometer and tach stopped working. we have been calling gm to find a solution with no results. i have come to realize that i am one of many with this same issue with their 2004 trailblazer. we cannot understand how gm can say that this is not a safety issue when this puts our children and families in danger when ever they are in a vehicle that is not producing accurate feedback concerning our speed and performance of the vehicle.

*tr

On 8/1/06 i was awaken by a neighbor at 1 am saying my car was on fire. the fire department was called but the entire interior was destroyed. the fire department said it had to have been an electrical malfunction. the vehicle had been parked since 8 pm that night and it was locked. there was no sign of forced entry and no sign of any other reason for the fire. the car was purchased new in 10/04 and had less than 30,000 miles on it. i used the roadside warranty to have it towed to a dealer but the dealer refused to have anything to do with it. it took two weeks for gm to send a fire investigator out and their investigator said he couldn't determine the cause of the fire. i filed a complaint with the vermont state attorney's office but gm did not respond to the complaint. i had electrical repairs done just a few months after purchasing the vehicle too and the stereo system had stopped working just a month before the fire. the car is still sitting at the dealership. i did not have collision insurance because the car was paid in full and my current finances did not allow me to maintain anything more than liability insurance. so now i have no vehicle and this is tough with 3 young children. gm refuses to honor their warranty and insists that this model vehicle doesn't have electrical issues. it's time someone made gm honor the warranty they charge for when you purchase a new vehicle. *jb

Whenever i drive at night the exterior and interior lights flicker and sometimes go out completely when i brake or allow the truck to coast. when i use the gas the problem resolves but since i have to stop sometime this isn't a good fix. the electrical gauge on my dash fluxuate with the lights going from low to high and back again. i've taken into 2 dealerships but they can't duplicate the problem i work nights so i am driving mostly during the night. how is it save for a young woman to drive alone at night without lights? this is an ongoing problem that has happened since i purchased the truck and has not been resolved. *tr
