I had two blowouts on the front tire (drivers side) and back tire (drivers side). on sept. 26, 2009. i ran into the curb and almost lost control of the vehicle; but since i was only going about 40 mph i was able to keep from crashing or rolling over. on the 7th of sept my tire went flat and i took it to sears and they advised it was the valve stem that caused the flat. they replaced the valve stem per my road hazard agreement. back in march of 2009 i had a flat while on vacation in fort worth and took it to discount tires, and they informed me that it was the valve stem and that there was a recall on the stem. upon returning home i took my car to sears and informed them of the incident and they advised they were not aware of a recall, checked the valve stems and said they didn't see anything wrong. when the blowouts occurred, we took the tires back to sears and had to pay for replacement tires (with the roadhazard fee it was apprx $230) because sears still says they have not received information on a recall notice for bridgestone tire valve stems. i found the information on the internet and also was made aware in march by the discount tire store in fort worth. i still have 2 tires from sears remaining on the vehicle and they will not replace them due to recall. *tr

Bought an expensive set of tires for my suv (rollover concern) within 1 year the valve stems installed with the new tires were rotting away and one of them deteriorated so badly all the air come out instantly. they looked perfect from the outside but pushing on them caused the others to rip as well. *tr

Upon attempting to have my tire serviced at a local firestone service center i was informed by manager there that all four of the tires on my vehicle were defective, tread could separate from tire, and that they would therefore not perform any service. all tires show cracking at base of tread where it meats the sidewall all the way around each tire. these tires are original tires purchased on new gm '04 trailblazer in february of that year. there is very little treadware and tires only have 29,000 miles on them. tire description: bfgoodrich open trail t/a p245/70r16. dot ap9l 2e11 3303 *tr
TIRES - PRESSURE MONITORING AND REGULATING SYSTEMS
08/28/2011
I am in the quick lube business and change oil on approximately 150 vehicles a day. part of our service includes checking the tire pressure. on about 10% of the vehicles that have the tire pressure monitoring system we find corrosion and failing valve stems. on many instances the valve stem has broken off and because we were checking the tires we have to pay for the repair that can run into hundreds of dollars. these valve stem have been manufactured using incompatible materials that cause corrosian. it is not fair to us that we should have to pay $250 to repair a tpms valve stem due to inadaquate manufacturing. we have chosen to not check the tire pressure on the vehicles that upon visual inspection have corroded valve stems. this is a very dangerous condition for the consumer in that it is very important that the tire pressure is regularly checked. in my opinion a recall should be made on all vehicles with these inferior valve stems. most american manufactured vehicles are to blame. this is a serious safety hasard that is only getting worse as time goes by.
