VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

In december 2011 my rpm gauge stop working. i did some research and found that there are several complaints about the same problem with the 2004 chevy trailblazer. then, on december 7,2012 my speedometer stop working and now all the other gauges are starting to malfunction. there are recalls on this same problems for 2005 and 2006 trailblazers. gm didn't issue a recall on the 2004 chevy trailblazers. i filed a compliant with the attorney general's office against general motors. a representative from general motors called and said there was not anything that they could do, because the vehicle has met its life expecties. they will not doing anything because my vehicle is over 100,000 miles. he basically told me that once the vehicle reaches 100,000 miles that general motors does not stand behind their product.

Love the vehicle except the fact all my gauges stick.... gm had told me this has to be safety issue in order to be recalled... i'm pretty sure not knowing how fast i am going on the highway is a saftey issue... especially with little children in the car. this is unacceptable. i refuse to pay for a defect that is happening in many gm vehicles... if i can find all the complaints i'm sure gm can as well. how do we get gm to fix these problems and try to keep customers????

I have a 2004 chevy trailblazer and the cluster is going bad . finding out that i'm not the only one that has this problem . i had the same problem with my chevy avalanche and it was recalled . i think that this a problem while driving . i think someone should do something before someone gets hurt. because the gauges go out the on and while driving. it could hurt a young driver that doesn't what to do. gm knows the promblem but will not do anything about it . it the same problem that they did a recall on with the trucks. so i think they should fixs this problem. so could you please help before someone gets hurt bad over this problem. thank you please help

This issue needs to be addressed, my speedometer and trans meter on left of speedometer started showing my chevrolet speed was 80 miles an hour even in park. then while i drive it will move to 100 miles an hour while i'm driving 35, and it moves up and down depending on my speed. some times it will work other times it will not show the correct speed, or acceleration on trans meter to the left of speedometer. i have went online and sean 1000's of people saying the same thing at the same miles of the chevrolet. 70,000-90,000 most are around 80,000. shouldn't this have been recalled years ago? and why have this issue been ignored for so long?

One day when i was driving i stopped my vehicle and the speedometer read 60 mph at a standstill. as i continued to accelerate it increased until it reached well past 120 mph. each time the vehicle is stopped the speedometer sometimes goes back but never to 0. the rpm does not function at all, and not sure when that stopped working. the speedometer did fix itself and then started again a month later. the second time is when the problem started with the rpm not functioning. i have seen multiple incidents with people complaining of these same issues and have saved the issues. i contacted the dealer and they are stating that this is not a manufacturers defect and stated it is $300 to replace a internal fault in the dash cluster. this is what i was told by someone in the service department at a chevrolet dealership.

Speedometer and tach works erratically. speedometer works approx. 25% of the time.
10/14/201184000
The speedometer on my 2004 trailblazer operates very erratically. at times it does not work at all at times it registers way slow or way fast. this to me is a major safety issue. if driving on snowy roads you can not tell how fast your wheels are spinning and this could cause loss of control of the vehicle. or another scenario, traveling on the interstate and the miles per hour is registering between 5 and 10 mph less that you are actually traveling. this could pose a rear end collision problem as those traveling behind you may not notice that your speed is slower. a properly functioning speedometer is a vital part of being able to drive the vehicle in a safe manner, not only for your safety but for those around you. in searching the internet this seems to be more of a common problem than what one might realize. general motors should be held accountable for this problem, as a properly functioning speedometer is an important safety feature. the same as brakes failure, throttle sticking, fire hazard or any other myriad of items on a vehicle are related to the proper and safe operation beyond the operators control. please look into this. thank you

Speedometer said i was doing 100 miles a hour tack does not work gas hand goes way pass full and when i stop and put $25 of gas in you know it is not full so not for sure if oil presure & temp gauge is right but it is not over heating guess i will know when steam comes out from under th hood gm recall some of the cluster why not the trailblazer
07/06/201076000
I have a 2004 chevy trailblazer; while driving on the highway; all guages, lights, etc. abruptly stopped working and continue to not work. i researched on line and found it could be what is called the cluster board. i took my vehicle to a local chevy dealer in daytona beach fl. they insisted it was the ignition switch. they replaced that mechanism for just under $300. the following week (this occurred in 2010); the exact same situation recurred; so i brought it back to the dealer and they then agreed it was the cluster board which would now cost me close to $700.00. in order to avoid being ripped off to the tune of almost $1k; i purchased a gps unit so i could at least monitor my speed. the speed/rpms never register correctly; however, so far the other guages seems to be ok (except for the oil pressure, it goes out of whack frequently so i just bring it in quickly to make sure i have sufficient oil and that it's clear/clean). most recently my headlights just go out without warning; i am able to use the high beams, but of course that puts me in jeopardy of getting a ticket. there are so many complaints on the 2004 chevy trailblazer - i do not understand why there has not been a recall on the cluster board and the electrical issues (lighting). i cannot afford to have all the repairs completed and would like to see chevrolet take on some responsibility for the cost of these flaws in the manufacturing of this vehicle.

The speedometer stopped working today. i checked online to see if anyone else was having the same problem. apparently there is a lot of us all experiencing the same problem. i don't think it is fair that we all have to pay $500 to repair the problem. if we are all having the same problem there is obviously something wrong.

Dashboard gauges on our 2004 trailblazer have been failing one by one. no gauges except the speedometer have been operable for many months. now, on friday 11/11/11, the speedometer stopped working! this is a serious problem. i believe it must be caused by the same issues as the identical well-publicized problems on other trailblazers. in addition, some of the dashboard lights (seatbelt light, etc.) ramain on almost all the time. chevrolet should be reponsible for immediate repairs at no cost to us, the owner. thank you.

Vehicle goes into shutdown mode with an unresponsive accelerator. motor still runs but no acceleration. this is a serious safety issue when driving in traffic as you have no power to get out of traffic and harms way. there is no warning that a problem is imminent. a reduced power light comes on and you're stuck. vehicle in question is a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer.
10/01/2010
The gauge bank on the vehicle is malfunctioning. the gauges point in all different directions and the speedometer quits working halfway through a drive. i spoke to my mechanic. he says he has already repaired a few at about $600 for the repair. i checked online and found several other owners expressing the same problem. i contacted chevy and they say there is not recall notice so they are not going to repair the (common) problem!

Tl-the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving approximately 35-40 mph he noticed the speedometer was working intermittently. the contact then stated the entire instrument cluster was not working, tachometer, oil gauge, etc. the failure had been on going for 2 to 3 months. the contact stated he had make an appointment to have the vehicle checked on april 11, 2011. the approximate failure mileage was 44,000 and the current mileage was 48,000. vwb
11/15/201061725
The speedometer began to be eratic and would not show the correct speed. i could be traveling 40 mph and the speedometer would show 10 mph. then it would jump to 110 mph, then zero. i went to the dealer and was told a new cluster board was needed. the replacement cost is $600-$700. i did an internet search and found out that his is a wide spread problem with the trailblazer. i also found out that chev. has recalled other vehicles with the same problem, such as suburban, sliveraldo and yukon, but has not recalled the trailblazer. this is a serious safety issue. chevy must be aware that this is a big problem for trailblazer owners there needs to be a recall of the cluster board on the trailblazer.

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated the cruise control as well as the fuel gauge no longer function. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was told they do not know how to remedy the failures. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 115,000. sm.

I own a 2004 chevy trailblazer; the tachometer, speedomoter and other gauges started to fluctuate and now the speedometer never works properly, the tachometer comes and goes and now the oil gauge is not showing the proper reading (i had it checked out to make sure i had oil and no other issues). i am told a new cluster board is needed at the cost of $600-$700. chevy is more than aware of this being a typical/known issue and i cannot understand why there has not been a recall on this forcing them to replace these cluster boards. i have purchased a gps which has the speedometer option so i know at what speed i am traveling; but if the oil and gas gauges go; i have no choice to fork over $6-700.00. why is chevrolet not being held accountable for faulty equipment they installed in their $37,000 vehicles? who else can i go to in attempts to get someone's attention to get chevrolet to take responsibility?

I have safety concerns in regards of my vehicle. while driving, my speedometer is reading off wrong numbers. for example, i can be driving 60mph, but the speedometer is reading at 80mph. it is a real concern for me because i have know idea how fast i'm driving. now that a lot of cities have photo-enforced cameras to record how fast you are driving, i have to guess how fast i'm going and hope that i don't receive a ticket in the mail. i have been researching this particular problem and i see several complaints on this topic. unfortunately, my warranty is expired so i will have to pay out of pocket. i hope gm sees this and consider a recall

10/20/201068720
2004 chevrolet trailblazer instrument cluster not working. first the tachometer stopped, then speedometer and now other gauges quit. i have found many people have had the same problem and gm is doing nothing about the problem. if all cars from this series end up having to have their instrument cluster replaced there is a bigger problem with some factory defect and it should be taken care of by the manufacturer since the product they sold in the market has known defects. i have read how this problem has been known and reports have been filed with nhtsa for quite some time now and nothing is being done about it. i think someone should force the hand of gm to correct this problem.

Instrument panel cluster on 2004 chevy trailblazer failing. started with speedometer not registering correctly at around 85,000 miles. then temp gauge pegged out at hot range, which cost me $200.00 at dealer to replace a sensor which didn't fix the problem. speedometer getting worse over the course of the next 15,000 miles culminating in complete malfunction of speedometer at 101,000 miles. speedometer now will not go below 40 while stopped, and with any speed quickly registers 100 mph; while travelling at interstate speeds (using my tachometer below 2000 rpms) the speedometer is practically pegged out at max speed (> 125 mph). never really know what spped i'm travelling; i could be speeding or i could be going too slow which is a hazzard to other drivers as well as myself.

I own a 2004 chevy trailblazer and the speedometer has progressively gotten to the point of being completely inoperable. the first time i noticed the speedometer read 120 mph when i was driving on the highway were the speed limit was 55 mph and i was driving with the flow of the traffic. i turned the car off and the speedometer still read 50mph. as of a month ago my fuel, oil, battery, and temp gauge are all inop; the needles never move. with this my battery, seatbelt, abs, and parking park stay illuminated. this is a safety concern because i never know how fast i'm going, how much fuel i have, if my car is running hot, i have no warning indication of anything going on with my vehicle.

The speedometer does not display the correct speed. causing the driver to drive at unknown speeds. the gauge will stick at 25mph or not work at all. the driver has to guess at what speeds they are driving. this happens intermittently so sometimes the speed is correctly displayed and most of the time it is incorrect. i contacted gm dealership for repair options and the price for the part alone is $400. i contacted gm they told me no recall or special policy covered my vehicle. but there is a special policy for other gm trucks of the same year. the policy covers the exact problem with the gauge cluster or instrument panel. the number is bulletin number: 07187a. being unable to drive at known speeds is a very dangerous driving condition.

2004 chevy trailblazer instrument cluster faliure. approximately 1.5 to 2 years ago i noticed that i had on and off problems with the rpm gauge and gas gauge. the other gauges, including the speedometer, started to fail and now none of them work at all. the vehicle has not been in any accidents and at this point, i have not had any work done to repair the problem due to the cost. i have been informed that this is a problem for this type of vehicle and that gm has recalled other vehicles of the same year for the same problem, but have not done it with the trailblazer.

2004 chevy trailblazer. instrument cluster (speedometer, fuel gage, oil pressure gage, rpm gage) inop. gages consistently don't work. speedometer can be off 10 ,20 or 70 mph. tremendously unsafe. from research, gm knows about this widespread problem. almost runover by a truck on the interstate. thought i was going 65 mph on a dark, deserted stretch of highway. was actually going 35 mph.

All gauges on control panel not working, but all service lights come on check engine, abs seat belt, reduce power, battery lights. now suv not cranking, it will spin but not turning over. will crank up after letting it sit for a while. i received a ticket for speeding, already.

While driving my 2004 chevy trailblazer home from work about 3 months ago i noticed my speedometer reading at 0, however i was driving approx. 30 miles per hour at the time. i accelerated to check to see if that would make the speedometer move above 0, but it stayed at 0. i informed my spouse of this speedometer misread and he attributed it to the cold weather. my spouse thought that the speedometer would return to normal once the weather warmed up. well, the temperature warmed to 65 degrees and once again my speedometer continued to malfunction and read below 0, while driving. my husband has also noticed that the speedometer wasn't working while he was driving. they speedometer just stops working sometimes without warning. two weeks ago my family and i started out on a 180 mile highway trip and within 20 miles from my home the speedometer just started descending to below 0 while i was driving on the highway and it remained there for the entire trip!!!!! i feel that this is a very hazardous situation and these vehicles should be recalled. after finding numerous other chevy owners experiencing the same problem, it frustrates me to think that chevy does not feel that this isn't important enough or serious enough to correct this problem at their expense!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is my only vehicle and i depend on the safety of this vehicle to transport my family which includes a 3yr. old and 13yr. old every day to school and daycare. and furthermore, i should not have to worry about getting a speeding ticket because i am unaware of my actual speed. i shouldn't have to alter my travel plans in fear of getting pulled over on the highway for this speedometer malfunctioning either. please recall these vehicles immediately.

While using cruise control at highway speed the speedometer erratically increases. braking to a stop does not take the speedometer to zero. turning the vehicle off and restarting sometimes puts the speedometer needle to zero in five mile increments with each cycle. problem is reoccuring. vehicle is taken to the dealer and a cluster problem is diagnosed with estimated cost to be around $500. internet research reveals this to be more than a sporadic problem resulting in the manufacturer recalling a number of vehicle models but not the trailblazer. a call to gm's customer service department culminates only with a formal complaint being registered ... this too being the common end for owners of trailblazers (according to internet research) the problem is a potential safety hazard as when this occurs without warning one has to guage driving speed by surrounding traffic.

I was driving at highway speed (approximately 65mph) with the cruise control set, when my vehicle suddenly responded like i had slammed the gas pedal down to the floor. my speed climbed rapidly, but i had the presence of mind to drop the truck into neutral (the tachometer continued to be at its maximum level and the engine still whined high) and steer to safety, across several lanes of traffic, to the breakdown lane. when i shut the vehicle off and turned it back on again, this issue was no longer present. *tr

Driving on dry pavement, clear day. took freeway offramp, when i reached 40mph, the brakes locked up, went past stop sign into other highway missing other vehicle passing in front of offramp. happened twice at same speed, brakes lock up, and i pass through the stop sign. loud grinding noise coming from wheel well area, brakes recently changed about 3 months ago, noise occurs at 25-30 mph, sounds like dragging something underneath. service man checked, nothing visible. has occurred 5 times in less than 2 months. interior lights dim on vehicle then brighten constantly. door ajar light constantly coming on, back hatch window constantly opening on own driving down road. instrument panel knobs, panel itself and window and door buttons on doors extremely hot to touch. various lights on instrument panel quit working and then resume on their own. reported tach/odometer not working already. both units registering offline while driving. where are the fixes to these problems? *tr

While driving the speedometer will get stuck and then it will not go back to 0 when you are stopped. the speedometer will also at times show that i am going 120mph+ and i am barely moving or stopped. the only way to get back to 0 mph (if it works) is to turn the trailblazer on and off until it goes back to 0. vehicle has 50,000 mile's. i cannot drive the vehicle without this happening. *tr

2004 chevrolet trailblazer. it showed zero when i am going at least 40 mph, then moves a little, and now is showing like 110 mph when i am going around 50 mph. i have noticed that this was a common problem with my vehicle. i have around 56,000 miles on it. is gm planning on a recall, thiswasa extremely dangerous and i should not have to bear the cost of repairs. *ak

While making a left turn, the vehicle accelerated from 5 to 50 mph, full pressure applied to the brakes did not stop the vehicle. driving into a curb was the only way to stop the vehicle. resulting in tire and wheel damage. no personal injury was caused. *nm

The vehicle has stalled out 3 times in the past month. check engine light came on and then reduced engine power light. we could only go 10 mph. thankfully we were in a residential area and not on the freeway. dealership said it was a faulty accelerator position module and the pcm needed to be reprogrammed. lucky us we are over in miles and this is not covered by the warranty. *nm

Dt*: the contact stated at various speeds, the vehicle would lose power and stall. this occurred with no warning. the vehicle was not taken to a mechanic for this problem. while driving at 35 mph, the vehicle lost power and hit a guard rail then rolled over. the airbags did not deploy. the contact was wearing a seat belt, but sustained minor injuries. there was a police report taken at the scene. the vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop, but there has been no inspection for these problems.

My first complaint came after the warranty expired and my water pump suddenly went out. i got that fixed and then i started hearing a noise on the passenger side near the right front tire. we still have not been able to figure out what this is. now i am having trouble with the rpm and speedometer just jumping and going out of whack. i got it fixed in lumberton nc at the chevy dealer and before i got home the same thing was happening again. i am scheduling an appointment to take it back in again and this time they say they will have to replace the gauge which will cost approximately $350. this is ridiculous considering i have only had the vehicle a year and some months. i talked to a friend of mine which had a gmc yukon and she had the same problems with the rpms and speedometer. she finally got rid of her and she said she had the same noise problem. i think that gmc should be made to correct all these problems and not the consumer take responsibility for their imperfections. *nm

This complaint was sent via e-mail. i was making a left turn at a very busy intersection, awaiting oncoming traffic to clear, i accelerated to go through traffic light, the engine was running but i had no acceleration. the check engine light came on. the car had enough rolling power to coast through the turn and get to the shoulder of the road. i shut off the ignition and waited a few seconds and restarted the car. the car started running okay , but the check engine light was still on. we stopped at a nearby gmc dealership to have the car checked. by the time we got there the light had gone off. the service man said it was okay to drive the car back home , 170 miles. the car was taken to a local dealership. the analysis from the on board computer indicated a malfunction with the accelerator throttle component. *ak
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL - ACCELERATOR PEDAL
06/20/20042200204/14/2004
I have a 2004 trail blazer ext. at about 2200 miles the cruise control stopped working, and when i got an appointment to take it in, they told me, that in fact it wasn't an issue with the cruise control, that there had been a short in the torque control converter solonoid which was a problem with the engine. they had a part overnighted to alderman's chevrolet, who fixed it quickly and made sure i had a rental while it was in being fixed, but a week and a half later, the same thing happened again. i am taking it in tomorrow, but i am afraid there is going to be permanant damage to my engine because this thing when broken affects the shifting of the engine. i am wondering if i just got a lemon or if this is a common problem with these vehicles. it only has 3500 miles on it, it shouldn't be in the shop twice already for repairs. *ak
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL - CRUISE CONTROL

Dt: 2004 chevrolet, trail blazer. the cruise control does not work properly. the cruise control does not stop the vehicle from increasing in speed when going down an incline. the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer who said that there was nothing they could do to fix this problem. when the consumer contacted gmc, they said that it was normal and it was designed that way to save fuel. *ak gm also informed the consumer to use lower gears when going down hill. the mileage would still increase when in third gear. *sc *jb
