Defect SummaryCertain sport utility vehicles have windshield wiper systems that will not turn on, cease operation while in use, fail to turn off/on by themselves (moisture sensitive wiper system), or have continuous windshield washer pump operation because the presence of water within the wiper modules can either cause a short circuit or can lead to the corrosion of components within the module.
Consequence SummaryDepending on the occurrence and weather situation, driver visibility could be reduced, which could result in a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will cover the windshield wiper module vent hole with a patch. also, the wiper motor, circuit board, and electrical connector will be inspected to signs of water intrusion and/or corrosion and be replaced as required. the recall began july 6, 2004. owners should contact chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438; oldsmobile at 1-800-630-6537; or gmc at 1-866-996-9463.

I purchased a used 2002 chevrolet trailblazer vin# [xxx] and the windshield wiper systems will not turn on and ceased operation while in use. (moisture sensitive wiper system) there was a recall for this issue on 2/4/2004 recall id #69922 i contacted chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438 and was told that the vehicle was serviced on 7/2004 for a seal assembly and there was nothing further they could do. however the problem still exists the information below was posted in the recall ad: because the presence of water within the wiper modules can either cause a short circuit or can lead to the corrosion of components within the module. consequence depending on the occurrence and weather situation, driver visibility could be reduced, which could result in a crash. how can chevrolet get away with selling a product with known defects and not be held responsible for insuring that these defects are properly fixed. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

2002 chevy trail blazer ext on 3/3/07 - while driving truck on highway the truck stopped running. restarted truck and pulled over to side of road. truck stopped running again. my husband noticed the oil pressure gauge which indicated no oil pressure. truck was then taken to repair shop. our mechanic stated that it need a new oil pump, which is located in the engine- this was too big a job for his station. my husband called general motors, spoke to their representative, who stated that the vehicle was no longer under warranty and in order for them to do cost sharing with us the vehicle would need to be taken to a gm authorized repair dealer. after numerous attempts to contact that same rep - we were informed by the chevy dealer that we needed to pay for the diagnostics(635.00) or they would charge us storage fees. still no contact from gm rep - our truck is still not fixed and still have not been able to get response from gm - other issues with this same truck have been at our expense: replaced rear window motors for window, air conditioning compressor, rear tail lights (twice) due to recall and lights not working - seat adjustment switches panel (twice) now this expense which will cost over 4372.00 if no other damage was done to truck by oil pressure not working. *jb

I own a 2002 trail blazer ext. i bought it brand new and i have had many many problems with it. i finally have had it and decided to see if the internet reported any similar problems and to my amazement there are many people out there with the same problems, but here is my story. i have had to have the brake lights electrical system on both sides replaced, molding around the license plate frame repaired, oxygen sensor replaced, sway bars replaced, windshield wiper motors replaced, left side passenger window motor broke twice, gas tank replaced because it was leaking gas and now it is back in the shop once again because the engine light came on and i had the onstar system do an engine analysis and they said something is wrong with my power train. i took it to the dealership and they call to tell me the gas tank is leaking gas and needs to be replaced. i told them i just had it done in october 2003. they told me i could not drive my vehicle. i see there was a recall done on some 2002 trailblazers due to a problem like this, but they say my vehicle is not one of them. why? i am having the same problems with the gas tank. this is the second one. i am lucky i took it in or something may have happened if it is this dangerous. i would appreciate a response back. thank you, kathy yates. *ak
