During the course of this ea investigation, odi observed that the majority of the complaints (88%) and warranty claims (94%) were reported for vehicles that are registered for use in the salt belt region of the us.this area includes 20 states in the northeast, mid atlantic and the midwest regions and the district of columbia.consumers in the salt belt region reported to odi that they could smell fuel vapors in their vehicles while driving.upon further examination of their vehicles, they discovered that fuel vapors were coming out of the top of the fuel tank. this condition is caused by corrosion of the return and sender lines of the fuel pump module.water and road salt collect on top of the fuel pump leading to small pinholes appearing on the fuel lines.fuel may leak and collect on top of the module and/or spill onto the ground.the data evaluated under this investigation reflect a relatively low frequency of occurrence that largely arises in salt belt states.gm has extended the warranty on the subject component to ten years or 120,000 miles.further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted at this time; accordingly, this investigation is closed.the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that no safety-related defect exists.the agency reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances.for additional information select document search.

On about 6 occasions over the past couple weeks my sunroof has opened by itself. on each occasion it has happened after backing up and then putting it in drive. when it happens i try to stop it by pressing the close button but it doesn't do anything and continues to open fully and stops. after about 20-30 seconds i can close it.

My vehicle has numerous times quit running (since purchase 2004) by first being unstable and rough engine idle. it's more noticeable after driving for long period of time on highway and then coming to a full stop at an exit; vehicle will surge at low speed/shudder and will stop running. the only way to keep vehicle running is by pressing gas and brake (not safe). talked to dealership an there is no fix. *tr
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

I purchased a 2004 chevy trailblazer in september 2003. within 6 months of purchase, the check engine light came on. dealer said it was a computer error and reset the computer. approximately every 6 months thereafter, check engine light came on and dealer said each time it was evaporation caused by not tightening gas cap appropriately. dealership changed owners and new dealer reset the computer once (saying gas cap not tightened appropriately), the second time found a hole in hose that comes out of the gas tank and repaired it. upon the third time with new dealer occurring 12/01/2010, we are told there is a crack in the nipple of the gas tank and want to replace the gas tank. i feel recourse from the manufacturer is due since obviously the problem existed upon purchase of the new vehicle.

Wench holding spare tire on 2002 chevy trailblazer was stuck and would not lower the tire. having a flat tire is bad enough but being told that they would have to cut and destroy the wench mechanism in order get the spare to put it on in place of the flat one was not good news. i told aaa to proceed and cut the cable and mechanism so they could change my flat tire. i found this is not under warranty and it cost $137.00 to replace the wench. this happened in august 2006/ in october, my wife had a flat and guess what the wench would not lower the spare and again the mechanism had to be replaced. i put my spare on my wife's 2004 chevy trailblazer so she could continue her trip to iowa. her wench was replaced at a cost $143.00. obviously this is a problem with chevy trailblazers as it happened with my 2002 and my wife's 2004. there is never a mention in the owner's manual about any maintenance on the wench. to find the problem when you have a flat is not the right time tom discover the wench doesn't work. i filed a complaint with general motors on monday of this week and was told that all complaints are reviewed by supervisors. i simply replied that it was highly unlikely that i would ever hear from anyone at gm about this problem. *nm
