AQ10001GENERAL MOTORS CORP.11/18/2010Fleet Vehicle Recall Completion Audit
The agency, particularly in recent months, has been informed of incidents involving allegations of personal injury and death claimed to have been caused by safety defects and failures to conform to minimum federal motor vehicle safety standards (fmvss) on rental car vehicles for which a safety recall to remedy the safety defect or noncompliance had allegedly not been performed prior to the rental car company's lease of the vehicle.nhtsa understands that there is presently a petition before the federal trade commission (ftc) seeking to prohibit at least one rental car company from renting vehicles on which safety recall campaign remedies remain outstanding.the purpose of this audit query (aq) is to investigate recall remedy completion by rental car companies on the above-listed safety recall campaigns.these campaigns were chosen due to their inclusion of vehicles used in the rental market.this information is expected to provide the agency an indication of how completely and how quickly rental car fleets, in general or individually, perform necessary recall-related repairs or other remedies on the vehicles owned and then leased for use on the roadways.this aq is opened.

I was in the process of making a left hand turn when my steering wheel locked when i finally got the steering wheel to loosen and move back into place i heard a loud popping sound. then my car on the front passenger side dropped to the ground due to the front tire axle braking which caused me to hit the back of a park vehicle. the brake of the axle appeared to clean as though the axle was never aparted of my car. the incident scared me a lot and it could have been a lot worse. i do not understand how this could have happened on 3 year old car andi did not have any real warning signs prior to this. i would like to get this issue resolved as i am now without my car and i have to face repairing someone else's vehicle.

The first problem is that the second row, middle seat belt gets stuck after putting the row down flat. you have to put the row up and down a few times for it to start working. sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. i read about recalls on the model of my vehicle and this issue is listed as one of the recalls. chevrolet and gm insist that my vin# is not listed under the recalls, so it has to be diagnosed and dealt with as a normal problem. this is listed as a safety hazard with the recall because it may not restrain as it should, god forbid, during an accident. the second problem is there is a leak in the cargo hold. whenever it rains, (a little or a lot, it doesn't matter) water pools in the cargo hold. this is a safety hazard because now the vehicle smells of mold. there are many other problems as well. there is a problem with one of the tire sensors, the car shakes and the check engine light is on.

As i was driving going approximately 55 mph the park assist message appeared on the dashboard and then the car suddenly lost power. the gauges went to 0 and the radio and air conditioning went off. it then suddenly popped back on and 4 different warning lights came on on the dash (check engine, tire pressure, a decal with a lock and the passenger air bag light) and then off again. i pulled over and turned the engine off. when i attempted to start the car again it would not turn over. i attempted 2 times and on the 3rd time the engine turned over and the warning lights were off. the following codes came up when a computer diagnostic tool was plugged in approximately 30 minutes after the issue occurred. b2aaa, b2a00, p0008, po202 and u25e5.

I own a 2009 traverse that was taken to the garage for what appears to be a hesitation in acceleration. engine sort of sputters. in a straight acceleration and when in turns. the garage said that this is a common trait in the traverses computer but that it is not an issue or defect. they say that they can refresh the computer but that i would lose 2mpg when they do it. one tech even said this is sort of like the toyota issue. to me (a computer systems engineer) it sounds like the computer has a bug in it and needs fixed or replaced. the thought of losing 2mpg in a suv is not very desirable but i cannot believe that this engine hesitation is not causing damage to the engine itself. how is this not a potential safety issue if i am trying to avoid a vehicle? my chevy dealer said that they would call corporate but that it would take several days. i notice that you already have one complaing re: a 2010 chevy traverse. this is clearly a potential safety issue!!
