Since purchasing this vehicle in january of 2006 we have been required to make extensive repairs on an on going basis. the vehicle has to be aligned & balanced almost monthly which has resulted in us replacing the tires on 3 different occasions. the brakes have been replaced twice and the rotors have been turned twice in the past year. the most recent incident occurred 3 wks ago when my wife was driving home on a 55 mph 2 lane road when suddenly the check engine & check oil light came on. the vehicle just stopped. upon towing it to a local auto repair shop we were informed the timing belt broke which warped the cam shaft. gm would do nothing until we towed it again, this time to a gm dealership. the vehicle was found to have extensive problems from the engine, to the timing belt, camp shaft, pistons, plugs and much more. *tr

I have a 2005 chevrolet uplander van and my anti-lock brake system failed on me. it kept sticking and would brake on its own and then when i needed the abs system to work it did not. i only had the abs service light show up after it failed to work on snow. upon taking it in to the dealer, it was determined that the sensor detection failed and needed replacing. have researched and other uplander owners are having same issues. *tr

I purchased a 2005 uplander from a gm dealer in july 2005. i now have 32,167. i took my vehicle in for its normal oil change at 22,000 when the service department said i needed front and brakes and rotors. we replaced the brakes and rotors and my rotors need to replaced again. i also noticed a noise coming from the left front tire i was told that they did not hear the noise and everything was fine. i have taken the van in for dimming on the lights and the vehicle feeling like it is going to stall too many times to count and every time they tell me it is just the way gm vehicles run. i also have a problem with the starter i will crank it and nothing this happens at lease once a day and i have to retry at least two times before the van will start.the steering has been a big issue we have been having problems with the tightness and when i am driving i can feel the back end swaying. the vehicle is unsafe to be driving and with two small children it is extremely scary. after reading all the complaints how is this vehicle still on the road. the issues people are having are extremely dangerous. the dealership i go to has never tried to fix or replace any of the issues with my van. they also tell me its normal and they cannot find anything wrong. i am looking to replace the tires they are bald which is causing the van to hydroplane everytime it rains. the sticker on the inside panel is different from the tires. the tire goodyear intergrity p225/60r17 states 44 psi with a max load of 1653 lbs. the inside sticker states 35 psi and max load of 1330 lbs. the tire size is extremely hard to find. i have also noticed when we close the sliding doors they do not shut, the latch doesnt catch the door until you slam extremely hard. then my daughter will try to get out of the vehicle and the child lock will be on when we didn't slide it on. can someone please do something to stop this

Abs light came on after brakes were replaced by chevrolet mechanic. took back and was told needed new front wheel hub. hub was replaced at our expense, and abs light was reset by chevrolet certified mechanic. abs light came back on before left the parking lot, but mechanic said it was okay and he wouldn't worry about it. left on vacation the next day. newly replaced brakes made horrible grinding noises all throughout trip. also began getting intermittent brake warning light, and service brake system and service abs system warnings. crawled under vehicle and found wires to the new wheel hub were broken at wheel hub. wires were for the wheel rotation sensor, as it was improperly installed. replaced wheel hub again at our expense, because chevrolet certified mechanic said first hub wasn't installed improperly, but also said the only way the wires could have become torn would be if it had been installed improperly. abs light and brake light were out for about one (1) week. second replacement hub and wiring are still intact, but still have continuous abs light and intermittent brake light as well as previously mentioned warnings. different chevrolet certified mechanic says there is nothing to worry about, only problem is that abs system will not function, but brakes will still work as if no abs system were on the vehicle. also had the same problem with the continuous abs light on a different chevrolet vehicle. if chevy can't make the abs system work after the brakes are worked on, why continue with the extra expense of putting them on? i now have two(2) chevrolet abs systems that their certified mechanics say are in tip top condition, only problem is neither system works. also, regarding the 2005 uplander, the driver's side sliding door will not shut properly, resulting in constant warning chimes every time the door is used. again, chevy mechanics say nothing is wrong with the door or the system. maybe chevy should get out of the car business!

The abs light on the vehicle came on while driving. the light started going on and off regularly so the vehicle was brought in to the dealer for service. the dealer said the front wheel hub bearings needed to be replaced but these were not covered under warranty. both front wheel hub bearings were replaced at our own expense but then the light started going on and off again. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and this time they said the computer & wiring system was bad and needed to be replaced. the dealer also indicated that this had been a recurring problem on this model but not enough consumers were affected to generate a recall so we would have to pay for this repair ourselves as well. the dealer has instructed us that it is dangerous to operate the vehicle until the repairs are made. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet uplander. the sliding door on the rear driver side would not stay latched. the contact called the dealer and manufacturer and they stated that she was responsible for having the door repaired. the vehicle has been in the shop six times now for the latch failure and the door opening on its own. each time the vehicle was retrieved from the dealer, they stated that it was repaired when it was not. when the button was pressed to close the door, it would begin to shut and an alarm would sound; however, it would not shut and flew open while driving. the instrument panel does not indicate that the door is ajar. the rear passenger side door is beginning to experience the same failure. neither the weather nor the speed were factors. the current mileage was 51,800 and failure mileage was 49,043. the dealer stated the vehicle would not start, check brake condition, and humming noise left front hub area. updated 12/12/07 *tr

My wife had driven from our home 7 miles away to the maggie moo's ice cream shop. she went in to the store to purchase some ice cream for my kids and her mom who stayed in the vehicle which was left running because of the heat. when she returned she backed the vehicle up with no problem but when she attempted to pull forward she heard the wrongest noise emanate from the front of the vehicle she has ever heard and the vehicle jumped and bumped and came to a grinding halt. i did not think it could have been so bad as she explained to me when i arrived. so i backed the vehicle out of the parking space that she managed to get to and pulled forward. oh my god! what she had explained to me wasn't even as bad as i experienced. the stability control activation message appeared in the dash display and the antilock brakes on the driver side front wheel began to growl then screeched the vehicle to a grinding halt. i was scared. my kids were thrown around in the car since they had unbuckled their seat belts while eating their ice cream. i made them buckle up and i tried it again. the same result over and over again until i finally got to a parking space. i called chevrolet to come tow the vehicle in to repair my 2005 uplander. they called me the next day and informed me that they found no problem and that the error codes pulled from the computer showed not error ever happened. this scares the hell out of me and my wife refuses to drive the vehicle. our fear of this malfunction occurring at highway speeds could result in catastrophic results. i am in contact with gm but they are so far unwilling to admit or take any action to resolve this safety issue. i need help!!! we all need to know if there is a major problem with the stabilitrak system being deployed on these new vehicles. please take this up and open an immediate investigation. i am documenting this malfunction everywhere i can think to because no one needs to die because of a defect. *nm

May 1, service stabilitrak system message came on, traction control light came on, vehicle stopped on own. able to drive about 20 feet before it stopped again. this repeated about 20 times. the brakes engaged all 4 wheels without pressing the pedal each time. after restarting vehicle it works fine. may 2 going 65 mph on i-275, the lights came back on and the brakes engaged without notice. my wife was able to get off the road (lucky). it was like she slammed on the brakes on a slick road (without using the pedal). dealer could not locate reason, called gm tech assit and they found a bad connection with the wiring harness. got van back may 3. may 11 lights back on and kept engaging brakes in driveway. dealer found another suspect connection with gm tech assist and gave us the van back. june 5 lights back on until getting gas. june 8 lights back on, onstar ran diags and reported anti-lock brake issue. lights stayed off after restarting van. each time we turn off the van and then restart it, it seems fine. june 9 lights back on, onstar found same error reported. june 10 lights back on. on way to dealer the brakes failed to engange just yards from dealer and wife went through stop sign. service advisor tried 4 times to stop van driving it to the stall. dealer found tire going flat while in stall. dealer found 17 codes stored showing low voltage. with gm tech assist dealer claims to have found yet another bad connection. gave van back after only 4 hours. june 12 lights back on. june 13 took it to selling dealer (45 miles away). dealer still has van (2 weeks later-june 27) claims engineer came down, could not find problem but suggested replacing bcm (17 codes again). they are replacing the computer hoping it is the cause. we dont want the van back and asking for a replacement under the lemon law and the fact that it fails to stop if a tire is low on air. replaced radio and mouldings. had brake failure, sliding door failure, and more. i would not buy another uplander.

After only 6,500 miles all highway miles (no city driving) the brakes were grabbing. so i took it to the dealer to have them checked out and the dealer turned down all 4 rotors . i was mad, the service writer had the nerve to tell me that the reason the disks were warped was while you were on the highway your brakes got so hot that when you pulled off on a ramp you hit the brakes and that's what warped your disks i called gm an registered my complaint. also when i talked to the service manager he told me that they have a lot of warped bakes on uplanders, if the upland just sits for a month on the lot the brakes warp. now i have 17,700 miles on my van and the brakes are warped again, but now they have to change the rotors and want me to pay for them. looks like i will be paying for rotors and turning them down at 6 to 7000 miles and replacing them every 10,000 miles. *jb

Brake rotors have been turned 5 times on a 2005 chevy uplander and need to be turned again. steering column needs to be rebuilt from the constant vibration caused by the warped brake rotors. have talked to several people who own uplanders, who have experienced the same problems. have read numerous complaints on-line concerning the same problem. can not get a response from gm concerning the issue. needs to be a recall before someone gets hurt. *tr

The brakes, when applied at highway speeds, will cause the front-end of the vehicle, including the steering wheel to shake violently. the dealer told me the rotors were warped and needed to be turned. the rotors have been turned on two separate occasions in less than a year at my own expense. i have been told by the service manager it is a recurrent problem - probably due to a bad batch of rotors. it is a serious safety issue since it occurs at high speeds and at times when proper braking is critical. *jb
