Defect SummaryOn certain minivans equipped with second-row bucket seats or captain's chairs and a power sliding door on the passenger side of the vehicle, a passenger using the interior handle to open the power sliding door could be injured.
Consequence SummaryIf a passenger uses the interior handle to open the power sliding door and holds onto the handle while it is being opened by the motor, the passenger's arm may be pushed into the seat back or armrest and a wrist or lower arm injury may result.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the power sliding door interior handle on the passenger-side. if the vehicle is equipped with a power or manual sliding door on the driver-side, the interior handle will also be replaced for appearance reasons. note: before the vehicle is serviced, gm advises owners to not use the interior door handle to open the door. the driver can open and close the door from switches at the driver's position or by using the remote key fob. the driver should tell passengers to use the switch located in front of the door to open or close it. the driver should use the override switch to prevent operation of the power door by children or by others who are not familiar with its use. the owner notification letter mailing will be conducted in phases with the first phase beginning on may 31, 2005. the second phase mailing began on july 18, 2005. the recall began on may 31, 2005. phase 2 began on july 18, 2005. phase 3 (final phase) began on august 24, 2005, to all remaining customers. owners should contact chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438; pontiac at 1-800-620-7668; or oldsmobile at 1-800-630-6537.

We own a 2000 chevy venture that we bought used about 4 years ago. when we bought it, the button for the doors to open automatically didn't work as well as the gas gauge. since, we have replaced the heads, the water pump, rack and pinion, wheel hub, tie rod end, as well as replacing the head lights every couple months and now having problems with the brake lights.when we had the heads replaced, they flushed the radiator and we are still having problems with the low coolant light coming on and the fluid looking cloudy. they told us that the cloudiness sometimes happens, but still doesn't explain the light coming on saying its low!!! we were also notified that the abs box is bad and needs replaced...also, sometimes there is water that leaks from the weather gauge or the top of the windshield. also the traction system light comes on and actually shuts the system off when you turn the van on, this maybe due to the bad abs box but has been doing this longer then the abs light has been on. there is also rust along the van below the sliding doors.the locks also sometimes stick when using the keypad or the electrical lock button inside the van. we can't wait to get rid of this van! just hope we have better luck with our next vehicle.

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet venture. the contact received recall letter # 04v597000 (latches/locks/linkages: doors:latch). the recall repair was performed on july 12, 2005. the contact stated that on may 15, 2007, the side door failed again. when the contact would close the side door, it would re-open. this failure occurred on several occasions before it would close. once it closed, the dome light would remain illuminated and the door open indicator constantly chimed. when using the door unlock button, the lock actuator would constantly click until the door was fully open. the contact took the vehicle back to the dealer on june 1, 2007 for repair where it currently remains. the current and failure mileages were 95,368. the consumer stated the power sliding door makes a loud clicking noise, which souds like the actuator trying to lock and unlock. updated 07/19/07. *jb

Passenger side power assist sliding door fell off of the rear sliding roller guide after it froze half open/shut. the door has been making funny sounds when opening and closing for about two weeks. the door has also been opening back up when it tries to close. the outer sliding track has bent somehow? i am guessing it is part of the noise the door has been making. after disassembly of the door and the interior compartment, it was determined to be the actuator cables making most of the noise. the plastic liner on the cables had been stripped off and the cables had been balled up and they are starting to frey. i have rebent the track to accept the sliding rollers and i have removed the cables from the door to allow the door to open and close manually.

I have had my 2000 venture in for power sliding door repairs three times. the first two times the dealer attempted to fix the problem according to the safety recall bulletin. the problem still persisted, and was fixed when the dealer installed a new power sliding door motor and clutch assembly. this stopped the door from intermittent binding, and now the power sliding door opens and closes correctly. the dealer replaced the motor, clutch assembly, actuator and retainer. dan kruse pontiac (the dealer) was very nice, and i wasn't charged for this service. to whom this bill went to i don't know. but, i have an extended warranty on this van. the reason i have submitted this report is that the safety recall on the 2000 venture van may not entirely fix this problem. the binding problem that existed on the power sliding door may have weakened the power sliding door motor and clutch assembly to where it has to be repaired. the original safety recall on the power sliding door problem may not be complete yet. thanks.**** dims 11 ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis****761006. *ak *jb
