Subject vehicles are available with an optional power sliding door.the interior handle is oriented in the vertical position in the door panel and lines up at the elbow level when the occupant is seated in the 2nd-row outboard position.if the occupant holds the interior handle in the thumb up position during power-assisted opening, the arm/wrist can be push back with force against the 2nd-row bucket seat or captain's chair seat back creating a risk of injury (other seating configurations have ample seat to door clearance to avoid entrapment of the lower arm).among the 103 total reports, there were 102 alleged injuries including arm/wrist, thumb and shoulder injuries.a count of injuries reveals that 76 injuries were a fractured or a broken arm/wrist requiring an immobilizing cast for four-to-six weeks.all injuries involve the right side power sliding door.the left side power sliding door is on far fewer vehicles, but more importantly, it produces less force.gm notified the agency by letter dated december 21, 2004, that it will recall model year 1997 though early 2005 gm u-van vehicles equipped with a right side power sliding door and with 2nd-row bucket seats or captain chairs (nhtsa recall #04v597).as part of the recall remedy, gm will replace the door handle with a flush mounted handle that will prevent an occupant from grasping the handle with the palm between the handle and door panel (thumb up orientation) and thus eliminate the potential for arm/wrist entrapment.this investigation is closed.

2000 chevrolet venture. faulty spot weld in the unibody near the right front corner of the driver seat mount stamping. this has cause approx. a 4 inch tear in the floor pan running from the mount toward the console. there is also a tear spidering on the left side of the same bracket around a weld that is now about the size of a half dollar. the vehicle was never in an accident that i am aware of and i have owned it since 2002. my concern is that if you do not remove the carpet you would not see it. if the vehicle were to be rear-ended the seat bracket may tear the floor more and cause the driver seat to pin the rear seat passengers. i have digital photos of the tears available as well. the failure will require welding of the tear on the floor pan as a minimum. *jb

The drivers side sliding door came off the hinge at the back. the door will not close properly now, and can not be used. the brake light burns out everytime it is replaced and looks like it melts the base of the bulb and the socket looks like it has been melted also. the middle section, drivers side seat belt will not release. *tr

My 5-year-old daughter was opening the driver-side sliding door (not-automatic), when it slid out of the track (the one in the rear panel, not the bottom), sheared off the roller-bearing (?) part that is supposed to be in the track, and the rear part of the door dropped to the ground, nearly landing on her. this is a small (37lb) child - and it is unbelievable that she could have caused this occurrence. we haven't yet repaired the part, and the door doesn't close correctly at all. we are going to be doing the repair within the next week, but this seems like it should be a recall-worthy event. *tr

Passenger side door has fallen off track twice. i has it fixed both events and it cost me $125.00. now i hear that other people have been experiencing this problem. gm needs to approve a re-call to address the safety issues surrounding the sliding doors on the venture, silhouette, and montana mini-vans. *jb

My wife, debora was a passenger in the back seat of a chevrolet venture minivan. as she opened the sliding door with the handle her arm became pinned against the side of the seat and edge of the door jam. the powered door continued to open until her wrist snapped. i have looked at how this could happened and saw this obvious automotive design flaw. my wife is currently awaiting surgery, which will include titanium plate & screws. who knows the eventual outcome ? my complaint and questions are these.. in your recall search i find your assigned recall # 04v-597 and gm's recall #04110. my wifes wrist was broken on april 16th because of the problem as stated in that recall. why hasn't the vehicle owner (original owner) been notified of this injury causing problem? i've spoken to chevy dealership owners, who say they have no knowledge yet of this recall. gm has a database of all original owners as do dealerships. is it too difficult or too expensive to bulk mail your customers. sorry for the inconvenience, de-activate the door till we get you a new handle. ask the owners to caution passengers about this problem. well, gms problem became my problem. farmers insurance won't pay for the injury because their client (car owner) was not negligent. thanks for listening. steve depoyster. *nm

I was the only owner of a 2000 chevorlet venture until two months ago when the door (sliding) fell off for the fourth time. because gm refused to do anything about it beyond repair it for the fourt time for free, i traded in the vehicle. i was not at all amused that my daughter fell out the door and could have been seriously injured. thank god she wasn't. the van had been fixed three times previously from the door falling off. chevorlet could only verify one time that it was repaired because the dealers did not enter the repair into their computers. i had all my receipts saying what was done to the vehicle in hand written notices. however, chevorlet did not believe me and chose to ignor the problem. i am very sorry that someone else's child might get hurt because chevorlet ignored the problem.*ak

The driver's side manual sliding door completely fell off my chevy venture. the dealer repaired the car, but i was charged $509 for consequential damage not covered by my warranty. there wouldn't have been any damage if the door hadn't fallen off!! chevy customer service told me that it is not their responsibility and they are not willing to help me. i went as far as i could with customer service (more than 6 calls) but i was told they are unwilling to help. i am shock by the lack of concern chevy showed my family. i believe it is their responsibility to fix the car... a door should never just fall off the vehicle. i have 3 young children, and feel lucky that no one was seriously hurt. *la

The passenger side power sliding door on my 2000 chevy venture does not close properly. this has been a problem since i bought the van new. i have taken it to chevy dealers on different occasions, but was told there was no problem. at one time last year, the door opened while driving down the road. my 4 year old daughter was in the seat by the door and thankfully did not fall out. we took it immediately to the dealer, but they again said nothing was wrong. the problem is not predictable, which makes it hard to show the dealer, but the door will make a groaning sound and the alarm will sound when it does. the rear part of the door appears to try to pull in too far, causing the sound. the door will then have to be opened and shut 3-4 times to get it to properly close. i stopped taking it to the dealer after the warranty expired because i didn't want to be charged to hear them say nothing is wrong. there is obviously a problem. i took it in for the recall, but they again said nothing was wrong. i have contacted chevrolet, but they will not do anything since it is out of warranty. the van has 48,000 miles and the door has been a problem since day one. maybe if enough people notify your organization, something will be done. thank you for your assistance with this matter. the incident date listed below is the approximate time i purchased the van, since this is an ongoing problem. *jb

Passenger side power assist sliding door fell off of the rear sliding roller guide after it froze half open/shut. the door has been making funny sounds when opening and closing for about two weeks. the door has also been opening back up when it tries to close. the outer sliding track has bent somehow? i am guessing it is part of the noise the door has been making. after disassembly of the door and the interior compartment, it was determined to be the actuator cables making most of the noise. the plastic liner on the cables had been stripped off and the cables had been balled up and they are starting to frey. i have rebent the track to accept the sliding rollers and i have removed the cables from the door to allow the door to open and close manually.

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet venture. the contact stated that the front and back of the undercarriage were damaged and smashed in over the brake lines. in addition, the front passenger side axle makes strange crunching noises, the vehicle shimmies severely, and the cruise control fails to deactivate when it should. furthermore, the seat belts do not properly restrain the occupants and the headlights blink on and off while driving at night. the contact placed two new front tires on the vehicle, as well as a new set of brakes. the dealer stated that the vehicle was previously in a crash, in which the hood, fender, and undercarriage were damaged. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was 103,000 and current mileage was 113,000.

On leaving the parking lot at southern maryland hospital, i heard a scraping noise coming from the bottom of the van. i quickly pulled over and looked under the van. the front frame had dropped to the road and i found that the steering wheel now turned 360 degrees. fortunately, i had not entered a high speed road so i was able to pull over out of harms way before anything drastic happened. i had it towed to jack winegardner chevrolet. they looked it over and said the bolt holding up the frame had sheered off. they did not know why it happened. the van has never been in an accident; there was no rust (the van was well maintained). i asked that it be repaired and called the gm headquarters to ask for relief on the cost of the repairs since i felt it was probably a manufacturer's defect and definitely a safety issue. the district manager, terry lynn, called the next day and said they did not consider it a safety issue since the van was too old (8-1/2 years old) and had 75,000 miles on it. (the 75,000 was my estimate at the time. when i got the van back, the mileage was actually 63,700.) the chevrolet dealership has assured me that there would be o.k. to drive the van, that is considered safe. i have not heard of this happening before, but i believe an alert should be issued. (i drove my chevy cavalier for 17 years and over 400,000 miles before trading it in on the 2000 venture. and never once did the frame fall to the ground.) i did not ask for the ruined parts to be returned. sorry! *tr
