Defect SummaryDorman is recalling 979 steering knuckles, dorman p/nos. 697-902 and 697-903, sold under dorman's oe solutionstm brand name, and napa p/nos. 7-8502 and 7-8503 which were sold for replacement use on the various vehicles listed above. a potential material or design defect could result in the steering knuckle breaking in the hub area.
Consequence SummaryA broken steering knuckle could result in loss of steering control and a possible crash without warning.
Corrective SummaryDorman will notify owners and replace the defective steering knuckles free of charge and reimburse the repair facility or owner for labor. the recall began on february 23, 2009. owners may contact dorman's toll-free hotline at 1-800-523-2492.

 Tl*the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet venture. the contact stated while making a turn the engine fell on the ground, the steering column and sub frame broke. the insurance company towed the vehicle to an auto body shop. the vehicle was in the process repairing the vehicle. the dealer and manufacturer were contacted. the failure and current mileage was 123,000.

 Tl* the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet venture. while driving at highway speeds of 70 miles per hour, the front right tire rod broke along with the front right control arm. the dealer (in grants pass, oregon) stated that they are unable to assist him with the failure since it was involved in a crash; however, the contact was not involved a crash. the front tires were worn and that doesnt occur during an accident. the contact is aware of the safety risk involved. the failure mileage was 45,000 and the current mileage was 57,2000.
