Defect SummaryOn certain minivans equipped with second-row bucket seats or captain's chairs and a power sliding door on the passenger side of the vehicle, a passenger using the interior handle to open the power sliding door could be injured.
Consequence SummaryIf a passenger uses the interior handle to open the power sliding door and holds onto the handle while it is being opened by the motor, the passenger's arm may be pushed into the seat back or armrest and a wrist or lower arm injury may result.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the power sliding door interior handle on the passenger-side. if the vehicle is equipped with a power or manual sliding door on the driver-side, the interior handle will also be replaced for appearance reasons. note: before the vehicle is serviced, gm advises owners to not use the interior door handle to open the door. the driver can open and close the door from switches at the driver's position or by using the remote key fob. the driver should tell passengers to use the switch located in front of the door to open or close it. the driver should use the override switch to prevent operation of the power door by children or by others who are not familiar with its use. the owner notification letter mailing will be conducted in phases with the first phase beginning on may 31, 2005. the second phase mailing began on july 18, 2005. the recall began on may 31, 2005. phase 2 began on july 18, 2005. phase 3 (final phase) began on august 24, 2005, to all remaining customers. owners should contact chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438; pontiac at 1-800-620-7668; or oldsmobile at 1-800-630-6537.

Passenger side sliding door does not stay shut properly. dealer has worked on it many times resulting in re-painting door. last time dealer had the car they were going to call chevy technical to have someone come look at it. i received a phone call two hours later saying that the vehicle was fixed and to come get it. all they did was put a piece of rubber on the door to keep it from hitting. when i asked why they did not call chevy technical as promised they said they didn't have to. when i asked for another rubber bumper for the door on the other side, they suddenly could not duplicate the product. the door will not always lock and unlock as it should and it still does not stay closed properly. if we do not use it for a couple of days it will be loose. first complaint was two weeks after purchasing the vehicle. *jb

Sliding doors on chevy venture van keep opening , van is unsafe for kids or anyone to ride in the back because we aren't sure if the doors will open up . dealership told us to drive the van until doors open again so they can find the problem, i can't keep anything inside the van because you think the van is locked up and you leave the van and come back and the sliding doors are open again. this also has done this while driving the van too. the dealership unplugged the remote to see if this was the problem and told us they didn't see a problem yet , so drive the van until it happens again and bring it back in. we have 3 kids, and i don't want to see my kids hurt because a door slides open while driving. i would like them to have there kids drive around in the van until the problem happens again. i can't tell you how many times the doors open and won't shut, the problem started last yr while on vac. the dealer replaced something (weather strip on floor where the door slides) but this summer it started up again. while driving about 30 mph the driver side door open. i almost ran off the road because i thought someone was in the back seat opening the door. i thank god my kids weren't in the back seat at the time this happen. *jb

My 2 year old son was climbing in the right side of the car when the automatic door starting closing. the door did not stop when it hit him closing him in the door. it took my entire weight to push the door back off of him. dealerships system there is no problem with the door, that the 2003 ventures do not have a sensor in the door like the new models. *jb

Dt: received a recall for 2003 chevrolet venture. husband took vehicle to dealer to have the right hand sliding door handle replaced. when husband brought vehicle home consumer got inside and closed door with power button and then manually tried to open this new latch handle and it would not open. consumer felt that the electrical power has been switched out from this unit, the only way one can now open door was through power-not manually. feels this was more of safety hazard now. if the electrical system failed or in the event of a crash it could not opened manually. very upset with the recall remedy that was provided. *ak *jb
