Subject vehicles are available with an optional power sliding door.the interior handle is oriented in the vertical position in the door panel and lines up at the elbow level when the occupant is seated in the 2nd-row outboard position.if the occupant holds the interior handle in the thumb up position during power-assisted opening, the arm/wrist can be push back with force against the 2nd-row bucket seat or captain's chair seat back creating a risk of injury (other seating configurations have ample seat to door clearance to avoid entrapment of the lower arm).among the 103 total reports, there were 102 alleged injuries including arm/wrist, thumb and shoulder injuries.a count of injuries reveals that 76 injuries were a fractured or a broken arm/wrist requiring an immobilizing cast for four-to-six weeks.all injuries involve the right side power sliding door.the left side power sliding door is on far fewer vehicles, but more importantly, it produces less force.gm notified the agency by letter dated december 21, 2004, that it will recall model year 1997 though early 2005 gm u-van vehicles equipped with a right side power sliding door and with 2nd-row bucket seats or captain chairs (nhtsa recall #04v597).as part of the recall remedy, gm will replace the door handle with a flush mounted handle that will prevent an occupant from grasping the handle with the palm between the handle and door panel (thumb up orientation) and thus eliminate the potential for arm/wrist entrapment.this investigation is closed.

The front windshield is leaking. it is caused by not having stops in place that keeps the windshield from sliding out of place from top to bottom. we found that we had leak during a rain storm. i had another cars windshield replaced and asked the replacement company to reseal the windshield on my chevy venture. they stated to me that it was a known defect by chevy and they would not reseal it because the windshield will slide out of place again causing a leak or worse during an accident. my work as paramedic i have seen windshield displace , inward and outward. does somebody have to be hurt or death caused before a recall takes place ? if chevy knows that this ia a problem why not fix it ? *jb

The driver side passenger door sill is rusting even if the car is washed on a regular basis.the frame holding the radiator is also rusting, and a rust spot is appearing on the passenger door sill.

The metal underside support bracket that holds up both the engine coolant radiator and a/c radiator had rusted completly to the extent that the left (driver) side of the bracket completely failed and allowed the radiators to tilt down and drop approx. 4 on the left side. the primary support is now ony the coollant hoses. had i not noticed, while viewing the car from the front that there was a problem; both the radiators could have fallen off while driving, they certainly could have wedged to impede the steering control and /or run over by the tires to most certainly be a safety issue to us or others on the road. my call to a dealership stated they are well aware of this particular rust issue and they have no knowledge of recall by gm. there should be a recall to repair a corrosion issue of this support component that is a safety integrity issue. djk

Due to rusted rear right brake line, vehicle lost all brake fluid without warning and prevented vehicle from stopping in a timely manner. the lack of brake control caused right rear side of the van's body (just in front of the rear right wheel) to hit the protective barrier at the gas station. upon inspection rust is now observed at several places on the brake lines as well. *tr

 (1) on 9/7/04 i purchased a 2003 chevrolet venture van. it is a wb edition with two sliding side doors. on 9/19/04 three of my four children and myself were picking my finace' up from work on old rt. 66 in oatman az. i climbed into the driver's seat, my 8 year old daughter got into the passenger side, first row of back seats, closed the door, and buckled her seat-belt. my 5 year old daughter began getting into the driver's side first row of seats, and my fiance into the passenger side front seat. my 8 year old daughter had her right hand rresting on the door handle of the passenger side power sliding door. (2)my son, opened the passenger side power sliding door, engaging the power door response, and before my 8 year old daughter (kristen barker) could remover her hand from the door handle, her elbow was pinned to the back of her seat, and the door continued to open. there was a pop and her arm was broken. both bones in her right fore-arm were left with green stick fractures. (3) i phoned the dealership the following day, and requested a return of my vehicle as i no longer felt safe in it. they denied my request, and when i asked about the 30 day return law, the sales manager said there was no such law. i phoned gm then, and filed a compaint. i was given a file number of 1-258601011, and told that legal *may* contact me in 48-72 hours if they didn't deny my claim. legal called the next morning. i spoke with laura dubose, and she told me that claims would call in 7-10 days. claims called the next morning, and i was given another file number of 485837. the woman in claims told me how to disable the power doors in my van, and i have done so. opening them now without the power takes a pretty strong arm, but this is how we're going to do it. no repairs have been done as of yet. *ak pe04064.pco

We have 28 braun enter van that have experienced failures of the engine cradle mounts. one was a complete failure during operation that caused the van to accelerate fully when the forward cradle mounts failed completely while driving the van. upon a complete inspection of the all 28 vans we reviled several with forward mount problems and almost all with rear mount cracks. to date braun has made repairs to some of these units and was fully aware of the problems but to date no public notification of this potentially dangerous situation has been published. *jb
