Odi has received reports that the power sliding doors opened without command while the vehicle was in motion on model year 2005 and 2006 general motors minivans (chevrolet uplander/venture, pontiac montana sv6/montana, buick terraza, and saturn relay).some reports indicate that the door may not have been closed and latched before driving away causing the door to reverse (open) at low vehicle speeds.however, other reports indicate that the door was initially shut then opened after driving for several minutes and/or miles at vehicle speeds between 20 and 70 mph.odi has upgraded this preliminary evaluation to an engineering analysis (ea07-019) to further assess this issue.
EA07019GENERAL MOTORS CORP.12/11/200702/23/2009POWER SLIDING DOOR
Odi evaluated general motors' (gm) data, conducted consumer interviews, inspected and tested my 2005-2007 gm minivans with regard to the alleged defect of a power sliding door (psd) opening while the vehicle is out of park.odi identified a high warranty claim rate.however, these claims are related to various problems associated with doors not properly opening or closing and not specifically to doors opening while driving.the condition of the psd reversing direction during the closing sequence is consistent with an obstruction of the door, or with improper alignment of the door, and this is addressed in gm technical service bulletin # 07-08-64-007 and bulletins # 07-08-64-007a through d.odi's evaluation of the psd system notes numerous safeguards to preclude both unintentional and intentional power opening of the psd while the vehicle is in motion.a safety-defect trend has not been identified at this time.accordingly, this investigation is closed.[see document file for additional information regarding this resume.]

Power sliding doors don't have safety sensors on them, they will shut on whatever is in the way, they have left a bruise on me when i was standing in the way of the door. younger children or even adults could be hurt or possibly killed in them. *nm

Rear passenger automatic side door does not close, pops open when its suppose to latch shut. a child safety seat is beside the automatic door. door opened while my 9 year old son was sitting beside door and the vehicle was in motion. luckily i was only going about 15 miles and hour in a residential zone. door was taken in to dealership for inspection, because vehicle is no longer under warranty, no step were taken to repair door due to financial restraints. *jb

I have a 2005 chevy venture. there's a bar that attaches my automatic sliding door to the van and makes the door open and close. when the door is closing, it causes a triangular gap between the door, van and bar. the automatic door has a sensor that if someone is in between the door and van, it will stop and open the door up. there is a piece of plastic on the floor where the carpet stops and before the metal side of the van begins. my cousin's daughter was sitting in the seat behind the drivers seat. i buckled in my kids & was standing next to the open driver's side sliding van door talking to my cousin. her daughter was sitting in the seat behind the drivers seat. the button that closes the automatic sliding door was bumped. the door started closing, her foot slipped off that plastic piece on the floor and into the triangular gap. the sensors never picked up that something was in the door since it was not actually in front of the door and never stopped closing. thankfully i was standing close enough that when she screamed, i reached in and grabbed her foot. she had on boots & jeans and still had a mark and bruise on her shin. we stuck a shoe into this gap and closed the door on it to see if the sensor would see it. it tore the shoe and never stopped closing. i told chevy about the problem and that i wanted my van fixed so no one else gets injured.they said there is no fix & to shut off the automatic feature to avoid this. one problem-when you shut off this feature, you have to tug harder to shut the door. if a kid's foot goes into the gap while i'm shutting the door manually, i won't be able to stop the forward motion in time to not cause injury. chevy said there is nothing i can do unless enough people complain & then they will look into a fix. i am very worried about this with my children. i want my van fixed or a van comparable one that does not have this problem. i also feel that my cousin should also be compensated in some way. *nm

On friday, november 12 2004, i entered the middle row of my son-in-law?s new 2005 chevrolet venture. this vehicle is equipped with an automatic sliding rear side door. after i sat down and closed the door, it seemed to not close completely. i proceeded to open and close the door again. as the door started to open, i tried closing it with the door handle. however, it continued to open fully. by the time i realized that the door was not going to stop, despite my closing pressure on the door handle, my arm had moved backwards and became lodged against the back of my seat. i was unable to release my hand from the door handle, and as the door opened further, it fractured both bones in my arm. *nm
