 1. the events leading up to the failure. there are hundreds of reports on the internet about long term and systemic oil sludge problems causing sudden catastrophic engine failures in dodge and chrysler vehicles using the 2.7l v6 engine spanning from approx 1998-2005. my well maintained 2005 chrysler 300 engine failed suddenly and dangerously while driving. and this was 1 month after paying the chrysler dealer $850 to change the transmission fluid and coolant at factory suggested dates. with only 56,000 miles and oil changed every 5000 miles (owners manual suggests 7500) the chrysler dealer initially wanted over $2000 to fix an unexplained internal water pump leak, and timing chain failure. only after heated discussion did they back down and repair it for a $100 deductible under the 7/70 drivedrain warranty. 2. the failure, how often it occurs, its consequences. simply using google and entering chrysler 2.7l engine failure leads to hundreds of reports of suspected oil sludge (due to poor engine design and oil not flowing properly) that causes sudden and dangerous unexplained engine failure involving thousands of dollars. chrysler and its dealers first attempt to blame customers for not changing the oil enough or using the right oil etc. in my case my dealer said ...chrysler is being very quiet asking us to use all new parts and not giving us alot of information.... 3. what was done to correct the failure; i.e, parts repaired or replaced (and if old part is available). my dealer said chrysler told them not to talk about it and to use new and modified parts they gave them and not to use any of the old parts. *tr

Engine in 2005 chrysler 300 limited has been using oil since bought. the car was but from the car dealerships owner. it was his wife's car and had 18,000 miles on it. have taken it back to chrysler dealership for service and have complained about the oil usage. to date they have done nothing to determine where the oil is going. have notified chrysler by certified letter with no response from them at all. *tr

Engine light comes on and vehicle hesitates. told by extended warranty company that there is a design flaw with my 2005 chrysler 300. dealership says there is a carbon build up on the valves and combustion chamber that causes the valves to stick creating a misfire. *tr updated 09/18/07 *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chrysler 300c. the contact stated that the driver's seat failed to move and the vehicle would stall and shut off every two months. the failures usually occur without warning and while driving 15 mph. on july 17, 2007, the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they found nothing wrong. the current mileage is 37,000 and failure mileage was 8.
08/01/200631000107/01/2005
Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle stalled while making a left turn on multiple occasions. also, the vehicle vibrated due to carbon build up. the engine vibrated until it would stall, and always stalled while making a left turn. the service dealer determined the vehicle needed a new ignition coil and cylinder heads.
10/13/200640000110/05/2004
Dt*: the contact stated while driving 15 mph on a street, the instrument cluster panel and gauges intermittently flickered off and on, followed by the engine stalling without warning. afterwards, the contact shut off the engine and restarted without further incident. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer who was unable to duplicate the problem. the problem persisted, and the manufacturer was alerted.

This is my second new chrysler 300 passenger vehicle that has had the same problem. the problem occurs when the car is put into the reverse position. once, you start to back-up the car cuts off. the first car was returned to the dealer and exchanged for a second new chrysler 300. the same problem exists. the dealers mechanic said the problem was the throttle. i believe this is a serious problem, because if it continues to cut off -- another car may hit me and cause an accident. *jb

Have leased my chrysler 300 c for a little over a year. the vehicle has had a random stalling issue which has occurred 3 times in the last year. dealer was unable to reproduce the condition but did re-flash the pcm with a driveability update. vehicle just recently stalled while turning left onto a main road. the vehicle stalled in the middle of traffic lanes and i was nearly hit by two vehicles while trying to restart the car. the car restarted and i promptly drove it to the dealership. i just received a call that they can not duplicate the problem but are investigating further. i do not feel that this vehicle is safe and am concerned that i may be injured or injure someone else in the event that the vehicle stalls in traffic again. *nm

My 2005 300 has had multi-problems since i bought it brand new in 2005. 1st the water out housing has been replaced twice and chrysler refuses to admit there is a problem with it, the gear shifter assembly has gone out on it at only 25k, that was not allowing me to shift from park to any gear. the oil pressure switch just went out today, i'm so sick of this car and most of all sick of chrysler not accepting responsibility for any of this. some of these issues pose a serious safety concern and will cause a tragic accident if not addressed promptly and repaired by chrysler at no cost to the customer.

Day after purchase noticed load roar and steering wheel vibrating when the compressor for the air condition kicked on and off, called dealership and was told to keep driving maybe it will work itself out, maybe a kink. i am now on my fourth visit and the problem is progressing. the vehicle now stutters and almost dies each time the compressor kicks on and off. the dealership located in crystal city, mo is still figuring out how to handle the problem, which started the day after purchase.

2005 300 limited has a throttle and engine problems. *ts when the consumer test drove the vehicle he told the salesperson about the vehicle rough idle. the salesperson said to drive the vehicle for about 1000 miles to work the bugs out of the engine. if that didn't work he was told to bring the vehicle back and the problem would be fixed under the vehicles warranty. the vehicle was returned to the dealer at 1700 miles. the dealer flashed the computer but the rough idle was still present. the flash created a high idle, lunging and popping sound when putting the vehicle in park. the vehicle also shook when turning the vehicle off. when the vehicle was driven over 30 mph the throttle would not ease down when the consumer foot was removed from the accelerator pedal. the consumer had to ride the brakes to slow the vehicle down. *nm

Bought a chrysler 300 touring on march 3,2004 i've had the following problems: 12-09-04 recall d50 radiator isolator brackets, recall d51 antifreeze concentration level, noise coming from dash around the defroster advised nothing could be done for rattling. engine light comes for a few days then goes off. unknown reasons. 12-18-04 passenger air bag light stays on - system recalibrated. 12-21-04 passenger air bag light on a second time - system recalibrated a second time. 10-12-05 vin number covered by dashboard - cut a rearranged pad problem corrected. 12-22-05 driver side airbag light stays on - circuit 1 code clock spring defect - replaced clock spring. 12-23-05 driver side air bag light on a second time. had to wait until after christmas for service. told by dealership (dodge country, tx) they would not provide a rental car which is a part of the warranty because the vehicle is operative and would not be responsible if the air bags accidentally deploys while operating the vehicle. vehicle parked until 12-30-05 clock spring replaced a second time. 1-18-06 rear drivers side window would not roll down 50% of the time. loud squeaking and rattling sound coming from rear of vehicle. abs and electronic stability light on. vehicle can't be seen for service until 1-23-05 by dealership. vehicle parked until dealership can pick it up. *nm

2005 chrysler 300 c has a documented history of stalling since taking ownership of vehicle. vehicle has stalled multiple times while driving. dealership has attempted to reprogram the powertrain control module, clean the combustion chambers, and replace the manifold absolute pressure sensor; problem still exists. after the most recent occurrence of stalling i was unable to restart the vehicle. i took a video of the attempts to restart the vehicle as the dealership has never been able to duplicate the issue. i have also contacted chrysler customer relations and they have stated that there is nothing they can do since the dealership cannot duplicate the issue even though i have shown the dealership the video of the stall / non-start issue. vehicle has approximately 29,000 miles. *jb

I currently own an 2005 chrysler 300, which in turn i am now having to replace an entire engine. my car receives regular maintenance and it gave me no sign of failure. i contacted the manuf. for assistance and it was a dead end, as well as the other consumers complaint attempts. in my investigation as well as many others the oil pump for a 2.7 is to small for the engine, therefore as the mileage comes to or exceeds 60,000ml. the engine will crash. as in my case i am not the first owner therefore i was told by the manufact. that they wouldn't grant me any assistance. ironically, consumer engines give out at the time of there exceeded warranty. *nm

I have a 2005 chrysler 300c hemi. three months ago, i put unleaded 87 octane gasoline in the tank. i drove a few blocks and the engine stopped suddenly in mid-drive. i had a difficult time restarting the car and when i did, it took a few seconds before it would engage in gear. i took the car to the dealership to check, and they advised me that the engine computers have to reajust to the lower octane. since that time, i have only put mid-octane (89 octane). whenever i allow the tank to be lower than a quarter of a tank and i refill with 89 it still stalls in mid-drive and hard to start with the transmission not engaging immediately. i am concerned that the car will stall in the middle of an intersection which could lead to serious injury or death. *jb

My engine has been ticking from the beginning about two days after i bought it. cash! for my dad's birthday... brand new from town and country dealership. they told me to bring it back, this is in conyers georgia. i took it back they they kinda joke around said wasn't that the one on the show rm flr i said yes. then they said maybe when they drove it from tenn. it had no oil in it. it is a new engine and it will stop, or the gas cap was not on right and they would fix it. each time i bought it back the noise would stop for a while then it would come back. just keep your oil changed and there will be no problem this is what mr. larry repair boss told me. well. i didn't hear the noise as much when i picked it up and the rental car was getting expensive and they try to tell me i didn't buy the extra warrenty but i did! they told me i could keep drivimg it. or they tried to sell me a newer one...sell no way! because my job requires me to drive i need a good running car. (i'm a minister) now the noise is louder and the engine sounds like it is losing power. i can not say how many times i told them that the car needed a new engine but they kept on trying to sell me another car instead of replace the car or fix it with a new engine. the right side of my car pulled to the right when braking and they told me to go to good year and i did. they said it was manifacturing that they could not tighten up that side take it back but i ended up paying for good year to fix that. now the warrenty is gone for real and the noise is louder. it is not the fly wheel or the transmission it is in the engine right side in the back under the head gasket. i'm an retierd jeep employee and i use to inspect on the engine line. i knew this was not good to keep happening so now i have to pay for a engine too? wow pistons or lifters, or something is wrong with that car in my engine! help! 770-369-3331 pastor butler kathy is it because i'm a girl? they didn't listen or got treated this way. help!
