Dt: the contact owns a 1999 300m chrysler. ever since he bought the car he had problems with flat tires. had about fifteen flat tires, not punctured because the wheels will not hold air. he stated this was a well known problem with chrysler chrome wheels because of a problem around the rim that caused corrosion and the tire losing air. he stated this was based on what don smith told him. he states that don smith tried to get him new tires a nd tried to help him solve this problem, but was unsuccessful .he complained to the dealer when this first happened, and the dealer kept putting him off. the service man at the dealership told him it was a well known problem. the tire serviceman told him he would have this problem for as long as he owned the car. in january 05 he talked to the manufacturer, and they told him it should not happen after putting new tires on the car. he put new tires on and it still happened. the new tires havd 4,000 miles on them. he was still having flat tires. also talked to the manufacturer last on 10-03-05 and they told him they could not cover it. his last flat tire was on 10-7-05.*ak updated 11/16/2005 - *nm

I have had multiple wheel problems with the wheels on my 1999 chrysler 300m. the wheels have corroded and as a result the tires continually go flat. the valve stems have been replaced numerous times only to leak around them again. yesterday i took my car to the tire service center because it was leaking again. this time to my surprise there was a hairline crack amid the corrosion necessitating replacement of the wheel. i was told that the chrome wheels corrode and all should to be replaced. furthermore replacement would not solve the problem since the replacements would also corrode. the problem is one of poor design and the wrong choice of materials. i have the replaced wheel. currently i have to air my tires at least once a week. this has led to lower tire mileage and premature tire failure. *nm

All four wheel centers (chrome wheel option) have separated form their clips and fallen off within a period of about 4 months. chysler replaced them under warranty; however the parts appear to be of defective design. i have word that several other owners of similar vehicles have recently had the same problem. while the separation of these wheel centers may not cause harm to th driver and occupants, they may cause harm to property or persons outside the vehicle. if the centers fall off at high speed, they will become unguided 3 metal projectiles traveling at the same speed as the car.i have contacted chysler, but they intend do do nothing other than replaced the failed components with identical ones during the warranty period.*ak
WHEELS - LUGS/NUTS/BOLTS

On two occasions, the lug studs on the right front wheel have sheared, leaving only two (2) lug nuts holding the drive wheel on the vehicle. this occurred in april of 2007 and again in april of 2008. both times, the wheels had been rotated prior to a long trip on the vehicle. the vehicle was driven from west virginia to florida, and on the return trip after approximately 1300 miles, the same wheel (drive wheel) lugs again failed. if this had not been noticed while operating the vehicle at highway speeds, the potential for disaster could have been very real. *tr

WHEELS - RIM
07/04/200795000105/18/2006
The manufactured rims on our 1999 chrysler 300m no longer hold air (rim #lg40rav or lc40rav). all four rims have a slow leak, even after new tires were installed. the local dealer and a few local tire shops have inspected the rims and all concluded the metal rims are defective, they are deteriorating on the inside; all seem to suspect it is likely the rims were made with poor quality metal. chrysler customer service (800-992-1997, millie, emp#4mc, & her supervisor, robin, emp#5rs) indicates they have no way of knowing why the rims no longer work (suggested a driver may have hit a curb) and chrysler will not replace the rims or look further into the situation, because the warranty is no longer valid. they indicated that they do not and will not replace these rims unless forced by a recall. the local dealership indicates the replacement cost for the rims is $2,828, the car's value is only worth a little more than twice that amount. *tr

I have been having problems with my wheels for at least 4 or 5 years and have been trying to get chrysler to replace them. i get flat tires often which is a pain. i am 63 now and do not have help with this. i bought a compressor to assist me in an emergency. i have bee out in snow storms with flat tires. i was told by marketplace chrysler, rochester, ny that i could buy some wheels to replace the ones i have. the main company daimler chrysler was contacted by email and telephone and they would not replace them. both daimler and marketplace have been aware of the problem, but it is too costly for them to correct. i have gone to dunn tires. rochester, ny. they said that this is a problem in the north. dunn put nitrogen in the tires which has helped a little, but i still get flat tires. i feel when you pay as much as i have for a car, you do not want to buy new wheels. my coworker told me about your site when i was talking about the problems i was having with chrysler. i noticed that they made sure that the 300 does not have the same wheel problem. interesting. *nm

I had a 1999 chrysler 300 which developed wheel erosion at 3 years old and 97000 miles driven. a vibration developed that could not be fixed because the wheels could no longer be balanced. all 4 wheels had to be replaced at my expense as chrysler refused to consider any warranty. wheels are not a consumable.*ak

The wheels of our 1999 chrysler 300m have been leaking for over two years. the problem seems to be the chrome plating over the aluminum. it is scaling and corroding along the edge of the rim, so an air seal is almost impossible. we have had occasion when employees have taken the car and found it to swerve to the left or right - only to find that the air pressure has been depleted to 10-15 psi.*ak

Initially in may 2002, i had to replace a rim on my 1999 chrysler 300m because it had cracked due to corrosion (this is what i was told by the technician who discovered it). now, in 2003, three of the four tires are leaking air to the point where they need to be refilled every week or two. when contacting the service center where i had the work done, they advised me that the 300m & town & country mini-vans seem to be experiencing the same type of problems as i'm describing. *ak
