Dt: the tire rims will not hold air because the chrome plating pealed off the stainless rims. the consumer contacted the dealer, they said the consumer would have to replace them by himself. this started on august 24, 2004. originally, the consumer thought a nail was in the tire. took vehicle to the dealer and the service manager said it was a common complaint. every other day had to fill up to 15 to 20 lbs of air.*ak *jb

I have been driving in fear for 5 years. i bought my chrysler 2000 300m at laflam, runnemede, nj and have had it serviced only by mall chrysler, mount laurel nj. my front tires (especially the right tire) go flat every 4-5 days. goodyear has tried to fix them they have replaced the tires 2x. the problem persisted. laflam and mall chrysler will not help me. the 800 # customer service will not help me. the mechanic at mall suggested about 6 months ago to replace the rims. when i suggested this to all of the above no one would help me. i'm upset for two reasons 1)no one ever suggested the rims may be my problem all these years!! 2) i drive with caution and concern every time i get into the car. 3)no one at chrysler cares that i have been driving in fear. i have never in my life ever dealt with a company that was this heartless! i now drive with signs in my car warning other people that chrysler service is the worst and my car is not safe. i am saving my money to trade the car in for a safe car. i hate to see anyone drive it, but don't know what else to do. *nm

The tire/rim combination suffers from chronic sporadic leakage, particularly when positioned on the front . on numerous occasions the front tires have been found to be underinflated. on 4 or 5 occasions, the tires have gone completely flat, so far when the car was parked for a short period after a 20 mile run. goodyear examined the most recent failed tire and rim and reported that the rim was excessively corroded where the tire seals to it. furthermore, once cleaned with a grinder, goodyear reported residual pitting that could affect the seal. chrysler dipped the tire after goodyear cleaned the rim and reinflated the tire and found no leak. chrysler refused to remove the tires and inspect the rims for excessive or abnormal corrosion that might suggest a defect causing chronic leakage. continued use of the vehicle is hazardous, yet i can't find out whether the issue is with the rims, the tires, or both. chrysler's recommendation is that i start over at another dealer, but they refused to instruct the dealer to remove the tires and examine the rims. (their recommendation when i initially called over a year ago was to complain to goodyear.) at this time, i have purchased a compressor and am monitoring the inflation carefully. if hyper maintenance prevents a reoccurrence, i will still need to inspect and possibly replace the rims due to pitting when the tires are replaced for wear. goodyear has provided excellent service; chrysler seems to be stonewalling.*ak

TIRES - PRESSURE MONITORING AND REGULATING SYSTEMS
10/10/2000210/10/2000
Tire pressure drops weekly. i must check my tire pressure at least every other week or it will drop below 20 psi. i usually run my tires at the maximum recommended tire pressure to reduce the interval at which i must check the tires. replaced tires and changed brands without any difference. right front tire looked low and was checked to be at 26 psi. i hit a pothole on the way home and put a severe dent in the rim. tire went flat approximately 30 seconds later. (speed at 45 mph). replaced front wheel/tire with full size spare. rear tire which had 30 psi went flat and rolled off the rim in a corner within 5 minutes. rear rim also had a dent. it appears to be a corrosion sealing issue. the rims are 17 aluminum with steel center cap mounting brackets and bolted to a steel hub. i will paint the new rims and hubs to prevent the steel to aluminum contact which has been suggested to be the cause of the corrosion by a different dealer. *la

The left front tire of this vehicle failed on the date indicated. less than 4 hours later, the right front tire of the same vehicle failed. the failure appears to be a sidewall defect. there are no apparent punctures. the tires exhibit a tear, from inside out, in the sidewall. unsubstantiated runmor from a tire installer is that he sees this probelm on this tire all of the time. *ak( dot number: tire size: p225/55r17 )
