Check engine light came on after turned right out of parking garage. pulled on i-71 s and tried to accelerate to merge. transmission locked in low gear and could not accelerate past 50 mph (current speed limit was 65). rpms were past 4000 and other car horns were blaring because car would not shift and was going incredibly slow. tried to go to the manual shifter and still would not shift. pulled over, turned off car. turned car back on and car was fine. car did it three times on the way home. had previously taken to the dealership and spent $600 replacing transmission module. after researching the internet, there have been many people experiencing this problem in this car. dealership appears to refuse to fix the problem. extremely frustrated and unhappy. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2001 chrysler 300m. while driving 75 mph, the vehicle began to make loud noises and then shut off. the vehicle was placed into neutral and pushed to the dealer. the dealer stated that the diagnosis would cost $1,700. the state of california requires a smog test and the vehicle failed due to the transmission. the current and failure mileages were 76,000.

Check engine warning light cam on. transmission lock in a low gear. took to five star dealership wullenweber for service. replaced a transmission module for $600. two weeks later the transmission again lock in a lower gear while on i75. had car towed back to dealership wullenweber were it was two weeks earlier. told me that the transmission module was good but the engine bearing was blown and the a remanufactured engine would cost between $4,000 and $6,000 . this is a 2001 300m with only 51,000 miles. what can you do to help as the dealership is completely refusing to accept any responsibility for the failure of the transmission and the resulting sever damage to the engine. *jb

I own a 2001 chrysler 300m. i bought the car september 2000 with 10 miles on it. i have had nothing but problems, at 40,000 miles my 4 disc cd changer/tape player/am-fm stereo with 12 speakers went completely out. it used to ding (like when the lights are turned on and you take the key out of the ignition, that annoying ding) constantly. i couldn't get it to stop. the i was told by the 5-star service technicians that it was an internal electrical problem but they could replace the stereo with another one at the tune of $450 plus $50 for labor. at 50,000 miles my transmission light came on and i called three different 5-star service departments i was told no problem, that light really doesn't mean anything, but you should get the car in so we can look at it, we can't get you in for a week, in the meantime, it's okay to drive. three different dealership service departments told me the exact same thing. i also told them the car wouldn't make it for another week because it felt like it was slipping, like it wouldn't stay in gear. finally, a dealership 40 miles away took me in, the car almost didn't make it there. by the time i got to the service department the engine was making a winding sound, and it wouldn't stay in gear at all. the next day i was told i needed a new transmission - at barely 50,000 miles. i was then told it would cost me at least $3500, maybe more. i called chrysler customer service and complained. chrysler said that if i paid the first $950, they would pick up the balance, but the stereo's internal electrical problem was still mine to deal with. i said okay and i got the transmission fixed - but as of today i'm still experiencing shifting problems, sluggishness, and hesitation. my heated leather seats don't work, my on-board overhead digital info center, none of that works. the brakes shake and shudder every time i slow down. the pads and rotors have been serviced, but to no avail. now i hear a loud clunk every time i turn the steering wheel to the right. *la

While driving the torque converter failed. *nm as the consumer accelerated, the vehicle stalled in traffic. the consumer had to place the gear in park and shift back to drive to make the vehicle proceed. the consumer was almost rear ended. the clutch on the torque converter failed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the engine light. the consumer was told that the electrical surges caused the light to come on. this seemed to be a common problem. *sc *jb
