 Odi has received 29 reports of engine compartment fires that appear to be related to power steering hose leakage in model year (my) 1999 and 2000 chrysler cirrus, dodge stratus and plymouth breeze vehicles (ja-cars) equipped with 2.4l engines.these reports indicate that the fire resulted from a power steering hose leak or that it occurred after an extended drive and shortly after being parked - conditions consistent with ignition of power steering fluid on a hot engine or exhaust surface during the vehicle hot soak period. on january 6, 2006, daimlerchrysler corporation (dcc) notified nhtsa of a safety defect on my 1999 and 2000 ja-cars built from july 1, 1998 to july 31, 2000 and equipped with 2.4l engines (recall 06v-001).the notification stated that

 Tl* - the contact called regardingthe 1999 chrysler cirrus. the contact stated that while turning the wheel to the left she heard a winding noise. she was constantly having to put power steering fluid in the vehicle. there were no warning indicators. the failure mileage was 146,276. the contact stated there was a recall on the power steering, but she was advised by a chrysler dealer that this vehicle was not part of the recall due to the vin. *ak updated 03/30/07. *jb

 While traveling west bound on i-10, a vehicle cut me off my lane, i swerved to the right and at this moment the car left the road the right ,came back across the road to the left traveling w/b in the median for a shor distance before going right crossing back over i-10, striking a guardrail, flipping over it and coming to a rest against a tree. i tried to correct the car but took of to the left very sharpely, i was unable to control the car which i suspect was due to faulty steering mechanism. please advise if any other accidents have happen similar to mine due to steering failure.*ak

 Bolt on the steering column connected to the base pertrudes. when making a turn bolt grabs the rug, causing the rug to jam between the accelerator pedal and the steering column. dealer has inspected vehicle.*ak the customer states that something is missing when the steering column connects to steering linkage at the floor. the dealer syas there is nothing wrong. *yh
