Rear window is delaminating. this has apparently happened to thousands of cars. is there no recall?

The rear glass window is coming loose and separating/delaminating from the fabric convertible top. it seems the glue/bond is failing and i am very concerned that the window will completely become detached and cause an accident while driving. i believe this problem is a manufacturing defect and needs to be addressed by chrysler as a recall. this problem seems to be related to hot/humid weather conditions causing the delamination failure.

In mid 2009 i noticed that the rear window glass in my 2005 chrysler crossfire roadster was delaminating from the canvas apparently due to a poor adhesive bond. i was able to re-attach it myself after i was refused service by my local chrysler dealer due to adhesives and the soft top are not covered. he cited environmental factors can not be controlled and are excluded from warranty service.. this car was purchased in georgia at a chrysler dealership and is kept garaged. it is driven approximately 4500 miles per year, and is immaculate. the top is separating again and after contacting chrysler customer care, i was told that mine is excluded from a recent partial recall for cars only manufactured on certain production lines in michigan. or originally delivered to a few hot states. mine was apparently delivered to michigan. does this mean i can't drive it south past columbus, ohio? this is a bald faced lie. every one of these cars were manufactured and assembled in osnabruck, germany, and shipped here. the window is about to fall out and will look very stylish in the grill of the car behind me. this is a safety issue and should be addressed as such. my car will sit until either chrysler comes clean on an obvious manufacturing defect or i can scrape up enough to pay for it myself.

Back window fell out of 2005 chrysler crossfire convertible. dealer offers no fix. poor craftsmanship. based on web forums, it is common and chrysler does nothing to support their loyal customers who have bot these cars. windows should not fall out of cars... 42k miles.

2005 crossfire back window fell out of it while driving, creating a very scary and dangerous moment. the car has 8,200 miles on it. after taking it directly to the dealership, they said its a fault in the adhesive and chrysler will not replace it.

Chrysler crossfire convertible, all years. rear window detaches from the convertible top. this is not a sudden incident, but one where the detachment is gradual. the safety aspect of this problem relates to when finally detaching completely and falling inside the vehicle, the driver distraction could easily cause a vehicle accident. if falling outside the vehicle, resulting avoidance manuvers by drivers of following vehicles could lead to vehicle accidents. my local chrysler dealer has refused to correct the problem on my fast-detaching rear window, and has instead directed me to a corvette repair facility where the repair would be accomplished at my expense. the rear window problem has been well documented on a chrysler crossfire internet forum where members describe various home fixes attempted, none with permanent results. chrysler so far has not issued a recall for this safety problem.

The rear window glass is coming out of the convertible top on my 2005 chrysler crossfire. there was less than 40,000 miles on the car when it started. went to the dealer to get it looked at and was told that chrysler would not cover it and that my extended warranty did not cover it. this seems to be a common problem on this model car from what i have been reading on the web. with all i have been reading i would think that chrysler should be responsible and fix this issue. *tr

This is a complaint on a 2005 chrysler crossfire roadster that was just purchased in june 2009. i was looking in my rear view mirror on sunday afternoon and noticed a small quarter inch gap between my convertible top and my rear window. when i inspected the vehicle, i also noticed another gap that was on the left driver side of my rear window. this gap is about 2 inches wide and i can literally stick my hand on the inside of my car. it seems that the heat here in texas has melted the glue to the point that the window is becoming detached from the convertible top's canvas material. so, i contacted chrysler customer care on monday morning and they instructed me to visit a dealer to see if they could fix the window. i went to the dealership that afternoon and they told me (verbatim) we don't bother working on this vehicle because it is too much of a hassle, we refer crossfires to an upholstery shop! so, the next morning which was tuesday, i contact chrysler customer service again, told them what i was told at the dealership and they said please go to a different dealership. so i went again that tuesday afternoon and this time they looked at my vehicle and said they would contact customer service and get back with me the next day. i received a call today, wednesday, saying that it is going to cost $3,000 plus tax to repair. they can't just glue the window back in, they have to replace the whole top. chrysler also denied a goodwill replacement because it was deemed unnecessary, and my warranty just expired like 20 miles ago. the top is on back order, as i was told by the service manager at the dealership, so it could be a while before i would even be able to have it repaired. i am driving around with a half glued rear window, that can fall out and bust inside my car at any point. it is not only a hazard to me, but also to any passengers, pedestrians or motorist around me. if this should fall out while i am driving, i or someone else can become seriously injured. *tr

I am writing this letter to inform you of what i have been through with the 2005 chrysler crossfire convertible i purchased 3/21/08 from exotic motors in tarpon springs,fl on 6/14/08 i went to get into the car and noticed the back window came out/unglued. i called geico and that's where it all started they said i had a $500.00 deductible. i thought i could just go to firkins chrysler and have it glued back in for less. went there and they said it was a manufactures defect but sent me to there glass person manatee auto trim inc. he looked at it and said the same thing manufactures defect and would not fix it as he has done 3-4 in the past few months and they don?t take. that in it self should tell you something. so my husband called chrysler on 6/16/08 spoke with mark he stated they would be willing to do a good will replacement, so the next day 6/17/08 i took the car back to firkins they put in a work order and informed me the car tops were back ordered. my husband the called chrysler 6/17/08 and spoke with millie who was very rude and told my husband under no circumstance would chrysler pay for that as it cost too much. when he told her just the day before he spoke with mark and he said he would do the good will replacement she said no way. i then met with my geico adjuster and he also said they would not cover it as it is a manufacturers defect. he took pictures and gave me his report, which states it is a manufacturers defect, he advised me to sue chrysler. i called chrysler myself on 6/18/08 spoke with richard who was very rude, abrupt, and indifferent and told me to do what i had to do but he was not going to help me. to sum this letter up i have contacted the florida attorney general?s office and filed a complaint. they have been very helpful, putting me in the in touch with who i need to help me. *tr

The rear window is detaching from the convertible top. it has gotten progressively worse over the past year and the window could fall out at any time without a repair. this is a known problem with the 2005 roadster models, chrysler has refused to issue a general recall. as a result, my local chrysler dealer in seminole florida will not replace nor repair the top. *tr

Back window fell out while driving down road, in my convertible chrysler crossfire 2005. called chrysler and was no help to me. said there was no recall on the top. so i repaired myself and now the top leaks and did damage to the wiring harness. my auto insurance paid for the water damage but will not fix the top. my extend warranty will not cover the top either. i fill that chrysler should man up and take care of this problem. *tr

I have a 2005 convertible crossfire, the back window is falling out. i took it to a chrysler dealership and was informed i needed to replace the entire top for 2,200.00. the dealership referred me to chrysler and they wanted to pay for half the replacement cost. there is nothing wrong with top and i should not have to replace a top on a 4 year old car. i believe the top should have a recall as i have been reading this seems to be a common problem. if the window came out when the vehicle was driving there could be a safety issue. *tr

2005 chrysler crossfire limited convertible - rear window glass came unattached falling onto area behind front seats. top still slightly attached, thus preventing glass from falling onto driver/passenger area headrests. car is garaged, outside only during driving. chrysler refuses to accept responsibility for an apparent manufacturer's defect occurring in many of these cars (note numerous reports of this on several websites).

The rear glass window in my crossfire roadster just fell out. the vehicle is garaged kept, has 27k miles, and top looks like new. after further research on the web this turns out to be a common problem for this vehicle and i would say a factory defect. mine did not occur while driving down the road but i can see this easily happening if it fell out while driving down the road with the windows down. the glass could go straight out the back.

05' chrysler crossfire roadster convertble. the back window glass is falling out. been advised that the glue was faulty manufacturer issue. the top fabric appears to be shrinking and pulled away making the window to come apart from the convertible top. this is not only a hazzard to drivers & passengers but also to oncoming vehicles or vehicles following if this should come out completetly while driving at normal speed limits. i am hoping chrysler- damlier corporation will have it as a recall since there have been many many many chrylser customers on record with the same problem. this should be 100% repaired by the chrylser or at least owners should be compensated 100% for repairs.

I purchased a 2005 chrysler crossfire convertible on 5/9/11 from an individual. after purchasing the vehicle, i decided to search the internet to see if there was a forum for crossfire owners. i did find a great site and started perusing. i came across a thread of other owners of the 2005 crossfire convertible who were having problems with the glass window separating from the canvas. the problem typically occured in the high heat states i.e., florida and texas and typically surfaced after the 36 k mileage mark. since i live in florida, and this was a florida car, i immediately went to my garage and took a close look at the back window. upon casual observation, it wasn't obvious, but once i ran my finger along the edge of the glass and the canvas, lo and behold, it was separating!!! i was shocked that this was happening!!! long story short, after taking it to my local dealer, i was told that there was not a repair that could be done and the top would need to be replaced at a cost of $ 2,200.00. the technician said that he would contact chrysler to see if they would be willing to offer any goodwill towards the replacement. well, no goodwill offered by chrysler :( bottom line, i need a safe vehicle so i am having the top replaced at my cost. my local dealearship is fantastic and they have offered to discount the replacement by 15% which i thought showed good faith on their part. it seems to me, with so many owners having this problem, an investigation into why this is happening needs to happen. this is a safety issue as well as an integrity issue of this particular vehicle. someone needs to step up and represent the owners of these 2005 chrysler convertibles and say yes, this is a defect and chrysler will need to compensate fairly for the replacement of these tops!! the car i purchased was always garaged and the top is in like new condition ~ the glass delamination is a defect, not caused by wear & tear. chrysler needs to step up to the plate!

I own a 2005 chrysler crossfire limited edition convertible. aug 23, 2010 i notice the glue seal around the rear glass dried up, which caused the rear glass to fall out and potential cause sever problems for the driver if not caught in time. this is a known manufactures defect, however, chrysler will not own up to this problem. my top is like new and it is clear to me and others this is a mfg defect in the adhesive. in my opinion, chrysler is shifting gears to the consumer and hoping the issue happens after the warranty period. i am under the mileage warranty, however, i was inform the 1st owner of the car is when the warranty begins, therefore, the car is out of warranty based on the years and not mileage! the replacement cost is $3500 for a new top and glass. we need help out here and your investigation is greatly appreciated. warm regards, janice

The rear adhesive on my 2005 chrysler crossfire roadsters rear window, that holds it to the soft top convertible, has begun to detach. i have called chrysler about the issue and they explained that my vehicle was not covered by the warranty and they will not assist. this is a huge safety concern for me because the window could detach while driving and possibly cause harm and/or death to other drivers on the roadway. i found a service bulletin on the issue with a bulletin # sb-23035-11reva that recommends that the convertible top be inspected and/or replaced if defective. chrysler is not helping at all with this serious safety issue to help me fix it and make my vehicle safe for myself, and the others around me. i am a member of crossfireforum.org and there are many other people with this issue that have either gotten it replaced by chrysler for free, or paid a co-pay to help them fix the problem, but i was offered neither for this extremely unsafe issue my vehicle has. please help me in any way that you can. *tr
