| I have a 1998 chrysler intrepid with a 2.7 engine. the engine oil light has repeatedly come on at an idle. the engine was checked no problem was found, this has been going on for at least a year and has been repeatedly checked. now the water pump went out and has caused numerous problems. *jb | |||

| I have a 98 dodge intrepid ready to be re-possessed. i bought the car in 2001 with 53000 miles on it. 2 years later the engine blew with no warning as i was getting off i-95. it cost me $4200 to replace the engine. a year later the 2nd engine blew and again with no warning as i was driving on i 95. i replaced the engine again at $2400 because i still owed money on my loan. the second engine lasted about another year and now overheats after driving it for a half hour. i took it to the mechanic and he said that the heads are bad and the engine is cracked. i will not put a 3rd engine in this car. i still owe $5000 on my loan and can't afford to pay for it any more since i went and bought a 2001 honda that i need to get to and from work. *jb | |||

| Car was purchased in 5/06 from private dealer. fuild and oil levels where inspected by owner (at jiffy lube with documantation) which were clean and full. oil change had been done less then 3,000 miles prior and was not due. on the day of the incident the engine light turned on, there was a click coming fromthe engine. the car was pulled over, from off the freeway, and the engine seized. | |||

| Bought my 1998 dodge intrepid in november of 2004. i did a routine oil check every 3000 miles. the one time i don't get it changed at 3,000 miles with it only being over by 700 miles my engine blows. i've drove many cars and i didn't get the oil changed at exactly 3000 miles. i was driving with my two little girls. i came to a stop at a stop light and it the oil and check engine light comes on with my engine making a very loud noise and my car shaking. i managed to get it into a parking lot i sat there for an hour waiting for someone to help. just to find out its a blown engine and its going to cost me over four thousand dollars to replace. my car has 117000 miles on it. i'm unable to afford to fix it and i have heard of many problems with the 2.6 l. why is there nothing being done about them or a recall especially with as many people having problems with them. i have no transportation now with two little girls working and going to college someone needs to do something about this. *nm | |||

| I was driving my 1998 intrepid and without any warning it just stopped on the road(very dangerous for me). the mechanic told me the engine had blown. there was only 95000 milles on the car. i have followed everything in the owner's manual on how to maintain the car, including changing the oil every 3000 miles. i got an estimate from the mechanic and he told me it would cost around $5000 to repair. i send a letter to chrysler and am wanting for their response before i start any work on the car. | |||

| The car accelerated, the rpm's went thru the roof, when put into drive, and shot forward, made a loud thump sound, and was not stoppable, had to be put into park to stop. the engine had ripped out of the frame, which had ripped out of the body. | |||

| Ltr fm travis phillips (ky) owner of a 1998 dodge chrysler intrepid reporting defective engine, window off track writer believes vehicle should be recalled reply to the fort wright, ky district office. *ph the vehicle engine blew while the consumer's wife was driving 65 mph. there was no warning prior to this incident. the consumer indicated that he had the oil changed every 3000 miles and that the oil was just changed prior to the engine failure. the vehicles lights flickered, the windows came off the track when putting them up or down. the seals around the doors fell off. the air/heat only worked when on high. the starter failed. *nm | |||

| I currently own a 1998 chrylser intrepid which has 110,000 miles on it. in that amount of time i have had to replace the engine twice. the first time occured on 1/1/1999 with only 12000 miles on it. the dealership told me that the motor seized up due to thick oil. the oil had lots of metal shavings from inside the engine. they would not replace staing due to lack of maintainence. after that i faithfully made sure i had receipts on all engine maintenence items. in july of 2003 the engine did the same thing and another replacement was needed. i went directly to a non-dealership location to have the second engine put in because 1. the dealership where i bought it is not there. and 2. because of the attitude and problems i had fighting the first time with chrysler. this complaint is being filed to make others aware of the problems that i have had with this vehicle.*ak | |||

| Engine failure- my wife was driving and all of a sudden you heard a loud bang and the engine was out. she almost lost control of the car since the steering was out and she barely had brakes due to the engine failure. i know there was oil in the car when we started driving because i just had a oil change done. plus when my wife finally got the car over to the side of the road there was oil leaking from the engine and all over the bottom of the car and all over the engine. *jb | |||

| The engine failed on my 1998 chrysler intrepid which has only got 101,000 miles on it give or take a few miles. my pregnant wife was diving on a busy highway and the engine failed. she almost lost control of the car and had problems pulling the car over and getting it to stop. along with my wife were me, my mother-in-law, and my 2 kids. i changed the oil every 3,000 miles and there was no kind of signs to lead up to the engine failure. *jb | |||

| . hello. my wife and i own a 1998 chrysler intrepid. i say chrysler instead of dodge because it is canadian built and they are called chryslers. we had 73,000 miles on it when it suddenly failed on us. my wife was on the freeway heading to work. the oil light came on and she pulled over immediately. well, the engine stopped before she could even come to a complete stop. we had it towed to a chrysler dealership. they told us the engine had no oil and it seized up. well, i know the engine had oil. we just had it changed 2 weeks prior. the car never burned oil. nor was there ever any leaking evident underneath it. i have receipts to prove many of the oil changes. we had them done every 3 thousand miles. so i called the corporation. i was treated very rudely. the only thing they had to offer was engine failure due to lack of maintenance. i was very angry, but i felt i had no other recourse but to just take it and buy a new motor. it cost us well over $2500.00. now we can't sell the car because we can't break even on it. it is now worth more to us than to anyone else. my name is ronald w. ault. 4930 beech rd. hope, mi 48628. my home number is 989 435-9941. i will help in any way i can because my thoughts on this are: chrysler will do everything they can to fight a recall on this because it will cost them multi-millions of dollars to settle all the cases. please contact me if you need any assistance. ron . *jb | |||

| I bought this car on 3/2002. since i bought it i have replaced the starter three times; had a full front end replacement; new engine put in; new transmission; studs broke from the front tire and while the tire was rolling down the road my card was skidding down the road with my 2 month old granddaughter in the car. now the electronic system is completely screwed up and the car is not even running. i have all my paperwork where the repairs were done. i believe that chrysler needs to replace this vehicle no questions asked because we have spent over $6,000 fixing this piece of junk. *jb | |||
