| Defect Summary | On certain passenger vehicles, the floor shifter ignition-park interlock may fail and allow the shifter to be moved out of the park position with the key removed. an inoperative interlock may also allow the key to be removed when the shifter has not been placed in the park position. | |||||||||||||||
| Consequence Summary | Either circumstance may result in the vehicle rolling away without warning. | |||||||||||||||

| Our 1999 chrysler lhs suffered what our mechanic said was a catastrophic transimission failure. the service engine light came on and the transmission stopped shifting properly and remained in low gear. the transmission had to be completely re-built and the system flushed due to the large volume of metal shavings. because this happen outside the 3/36,000 warranty period, chrysler would not cover the cost of the repairs.*ak | |||

| On 4-18-02 my wife was backing our 1999 lhs chrysler out of our drive onto a busy highway, the shifter cable on the transmission malfunctioned, leaving the vehicle stranded inn the middle of the highway. my mechanic called our local chrysler dealership to order the part and the service dept. told us that there was over 600 on backorder for the n.c. and va. service area. well, how many were in circulation before the supply ran out??? i called chrysler customer care about any recalls on the mannner and there were none and the person at chrysler said that it would not be recalled. i think this is a very dangerous situation and should be investigated. the vehicle can be stranded, unable to move, in some very dangerous situatuions and could harm the occupants.*ak | |||
