Defect SummaryOn certain passenger vehicles, seat back recliner bolt breakage can occur resulting in the seat back reclining unexpectedly.
Consequence SummaryIf the seat back unexpectedly reclines while the car is being driven, it could result in loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the recliner bolts. owner notification began on april 23, 2003. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact daimlerchrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

 All of the dashboard gauges stopped working, the driver seat started moving, all at once. the speedometer stopped working while the driver's seat was adjusting itself--super dangerous!

 Tl- the contact owns a owns a 1999 chrysler lhs. the contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 03v035000 (seats:front assembly:recliner). while parked, the front driver's seat unexpectedly reclined. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the seat back recliner bolt was broken. the vehicle was repaired. approximately eight months later the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the authorized dealer where the seat was again repaired. the failure mileage was unknown. rvk

 Dt*: the contact stated while adjusting the seating position of the front driver seat, the power adjust was inoperative. upon initial inspection, the contact determined the mounting ball screw housing that connected the recliner function on the underside of the seat was fractured and the screw was loose. although the dealer was notified, the manufacturer was not.

 The vehicle was taken to the dealer to fix the seat bolt which was on recall. there is still a problem with the seat. the vehicle was taken to the dealer again which stated the seat needed a new recliner. *nlm
