Defect Summary | The abs hydraulic control unit can experience excessive brake actuator piston seal wear causing pump-motor deterioration.
Consequence Summary | If this condition occurs, the abs function could be lost and reduced power assist would be experienced during vehicle braking increasing the potential for a vehicle accident.
Corrective Summary | Dealers will test the vehicle's anti-lock brake system and repair the vehicles if necessary. also the warranty on all abs components will be extended to 10 years or 100,000 miles (except for the brake actuator piston assembly and the pump-motor assembly which will have a lifetime coverage). owners will also be reimbursed for previous abs component repair costs.

High pressure rubber hoses to the front two wheels become frayed and break at a metal clamp that holds the hoses in place in the wheel wells. this happened to both front brakes. the clamp is located on the strut and should be eliminated or the hose made longer. loss of brakes occurs when hose breaks

This is the second time the bosch abs failed in my 1990 chrysler new yorker landau. the first time, in 1992, the entire abs had to be replaced, under warranty. this time, the bosch abs pump motor was replaced and still the abs warning light comes on intermittently. there is a life-time warranty from chrysler on the bendix-10 abs on the 1990 new yorker. there should be a life-time warranty on the bosch abs as well. clearly deficient and a danger to life & limb. luckily, i was travelling at only 35mph/50kms on a side street in vancouver, b.c., when the abs failed completely.

While driving after same component was repaired by the dealer for a recalled item, same exact abs failure occured! service advisor asked me was it fixed when you left? while driving car in 45 mph zone of city 4 lane, attempted to stop for light and brake light and abs light illuminated and brake pedal became hard as a rock! with both feet on pedal, was able to slow car enough and pull into gas station. had car towed to dealer. after first repair i could not see any replaced parts and service ticket read complied with recall notice. no work was annotated. found receipt from when mother-in-law had car originally checked for recall, and noticed dealer was only required to test system. if it passes, they replace nothing. defective components remain in car until failure. how many must wreck before chrysler is made to get these death traps off the road! this will be my last complaint, as i sold this car the day it was repaired again. i will never trust chrysler again. they had two shots at killing my family, and fate said it was not ment to be. these cars need to be off the road. they give no warning of when you will loose your brakes! one time they are fine, then you push the pedal, and you get lights and no brakes!. *ak

Ongoing problem with abs system failing to operate on two occasions. after first failure, repairs were done at a dealer. less then two years problem reoccurred. second repairs were done at an indepentdent dealer, and problem appeared to be resolved, but abs brakes failed again. something needs to be done concerning dealers' failures to correct problems, and charging consumer a lot of money for poor service. can nhtsa provide additional information or help in this matter. *ak

Brakes went to the floor and would not stop the car without much difficulty. garage said it was a defect in the abs system specific to that year (1990) and chrysler new yorker. they said it would cost between $2000 - $3000 to repair. the car is not driveable in the current condition. chrysler will not sell the parts to the garage where i have the car and wants to diagnose it (at my expense i presume) before they willl even sell the part and at this point, the car is not worth much more than the cost it would cost to repair. subsequently, i learned that chrysler was ordered to recall these abs systems. where do i go from here? *ak
