On september 5, 2004, mr. robert galenty of iselin, nj, petitioned the agency to conduct defect investigations of certain model year (my) 1993-1997 vehicles produced by daimlerchrysler corporation.his petition identified three issues of concern: 1) fuel leaking from the fuel injector rails; 2) brake fluid contamination resulting in brake failure; and 3) susceptibility of the vehicle frame to damage while the vehicle is being towed.mr. galanty alleged that his 1996 dodge intrepid had each of these three problems.concerning fuel rail leakage, daimlerchrysler commenced a recall (98v-184) of approximately 722,600 vehicles to address engine fuel rail leaks that could lead to a fire, including those vehicles cited in the petition and the petitioner's 1996 dodge intrepid.on october 7, 1998, nhtsa opened a recall query investigation (rq98-018) to evaluate the adequacy of the recall remedy.that investigation was closed on july 8, 2002 without requiring further action by daimlerchrysler.very recently, on june 9, 2004, nhtsa denied a petition (rp04-001) to reopen rq98-018 after finding that there was no new information that would indicate any basis for reopening it.this is still the current position of nhtsa on this issue.concerning brake fluid contamination and frame alignment, a review of nhtsa's database shows no other complaints on either one of these issues on the vehicles cited in the petition.

My wife had just gotten home from work, having driven 17 miles in heavy traffic. i was just leaving the house as she pulled in to the driveway and she reversed back onto the street when the vehicle broke, literally. the engine cradle frame broke and collasped, breaking the right front axle pushing the right tire up against the fender. the vehicle stopped totally and could not be moved except by a tow truck. if this had happened on coors blvd just minutes earlier, theres no telling if my wife and others would be alive today. if the failure occurred at high speed, who knows what the vehicle would have done. the vehicle was purchased at budget car sales in albuquerque and towed to a chrysler dealer after the mishap. that was the reason i did not complete the dealer information. *ak

This is interrogative. my wife joined an accident in progress (no. 3 of 3 vehicles) becasue she couldn't stop in time. she was at 35 mph steady, said she had applied full braking. the nyer was pitched down when it contacted the bumper of a s-10 pickup truck. we have sheet metal damage to the hood, left fender and everything above the bumper line, including ac coil, radiator, fan, etc. she was uninjured. neither air bag deployed. the system check at engine start has always been exactly as described in the operator's handbook. my question is, shouldn't the airbags have deployed? if they should have, why didn't they and how do i insure the system is operational before i return the car to service?

When the vehicle is running power locks make clicking sound as though someone was opening & closing. also, interior lights flicker on/off. manufacturer & dealer seem to think this isn't a problem.
While traveling 55mph; steering was hard to control/ difficult to turn and very stiff. rack & pinion was cause of problem. also, vehicle not shifting into park. transmission line leaked fluid. coupling was causing a leak between rubber tubing which was inserted into metal tubing. in addition, fuel rail would also leak/ abs brakes started to lock up when applied/ water pump was leaking water, and door strap needed to be replaced due to being opened & closing hard. taking vehicle to dealer to correct major problems. *ak

Door seal defect prevented opening of door, indirectly causing safety hazard, since my child was repeatedly forced to exit car on drivers side into oncoming traffic. several technical service bulletins over several years have referred to this problem but dealer refused to replace defective door seal without charge. i believe that a door stuck shut is indeed a safety hazard and should be investigated as such. no other cars i have owned have ever had this problem, even at older ages. this design and materials defect is an indirect safety hazard but should be still considered a legitimate one nonetheless. i paid $300 to have the pasadena chrysler dealer fix this problem and believe that chrysler should have paid for it. thank you for your attention. beatrice hirano, my correct zip code is 91770-no way to modify the data without erasing the comments. you should fix that on your site.

The right side frame member, where the lower control arm attaches broke away causing the tire and strut assembly to go into the fender, and pulled the cv joint apart at the transmission rendering the car undrivable, and unmovable. i was backing out of a parking space with the wheel turned to the left in the rain when i heard a loud bang and the car came to a stop, while banging continued. then i turned the car off, and took a look, and saw that the right front tire into the fender and the bottom sticking way out. it could not be towed on a standard wheel kift tow truck.
