Own since new 2004 chrysler pacifica , (mfg.: feb 2004). originally equipped with h7 halogen low & high beams. on nov. 16, 2008, replaced low-beam h7 bulbs with 35w ddm hid kits (http://www.ddmtuning.com/products/ddm_35w_55w_slim_ballast_hid_kit-101-60.html). have already been successfully (for almost two years) using a similar pair in my 1987 mercedes 300sdl, (9004 bulb form factor with high/low beam elecromagnetomechanical actuators). issue is not with ddm upgrades but with the pacifica! only upon roughly below 60f ambient temp. and after lights have run for a few minutes, they recycle (i.e. flash off and back on), mostly both at once when: a) starting from initial standstill after boarding and the power locks automatically actuate to close the vehicle. b) sometimes when vehicle starts from standstill, even without power locks actuating. c) sometimes when shifting from reverse to drive (e.g. getting out of a parking). issue never occurs when vehicle cruises, regardless of road bumpiness (no loose connection) and how long am driving. found similar issues on 2004 pacifica and chrysler 300m, some even with oem hids (not retrofits as me). 1) http://video.aol.com/video-detail/chrysler-300c-oem-hid-headlight-problem-malfunction-hazzard/1136800140 2) http://www.justanswer.com/questions/1rzyh-own-2004-chrysler-pacifica 3) http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/webx?ed_searchresults@@.ef16284!keywords=allin%3amsgtext%20limit%3a.ef16284%20what%20type%20of%20headlight%20on%202005%20pacifica&count=20 cottage industry arose selling capacitors so hids survive glitches present on chrysler headlight sockets: 1) http://www.stealthauto.com/products/hid-anti-flicker-capacitor__hid-cap.aspx 2) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/hid-decoder-canceller-anti-flicker-capacitor_w0qqitemz330309702198qqcmdzviewitem 3) http://www.300cforumz.com/showthread.php?t=5954 am positive the issue is not electrical but rather a firmware bug! *tr
EXTERIOR LIGHTING - HEADLIGHTS

Low beam head light burns out at 34k miles. replaced h7 (oem) lamp myself because dealer claims it is a maintenance item and not covered under warranty. upon installing new lamp the other low beam lamp expired. i believe there is a defect and checked my car stats to verify any reports. i see i am not alone. *jb

Headlights stopped working on 2004 chrysler pacifica , and the 2005 pacifica was recalled for the same problem. but, the dealer said this vehicle was not covered under the recall because a different part was replaced. also, model year was not part of the recall. the headlights would not work. luckily, i was at home when the problem occurred. it appeared that this problem was related to the one mentioned in the recall and i should not have to pay for the repairs. *ak

I purchased the car from carmax 08/03, with 500 miles on it. at the end of 09/04, with 2200 miles, i began to have problems with the fuel light. i took it in for service for the fuel light on 10/6, 10/11, 12/18, and 12/27/04. each time service said it was due to a gas cap not being tightend, and or gas was being topped off. they didn't tell me they replaced a c34 fuel line clip on 12/18, and on 12/27 they replaced the egr system. i continued to have the same problems 1/11 and 1/17/05. on 1/17/05 they replaced a detector for general evap system failure/replace nvld pump. 1/25/05, service again for the headlamps not working, they found no problem. i was not told they did a recall on 10/06/04 on the auto transmission powertrain controle module. i found out, via the internet there was a recall on the headlamps, and they could go out anytime. i received another recall in the mail on the seat control module and drivers door handle, so i took the car in for both recalls 03/31/05. i got home that evening, and now i can't get into the car through the driver's side! this whole car is a lemon and should be recalled! *ak

Upon purchase of my new chrysler pacifica i became aware that the field of illumination with the low beam headlamps was quite reduced from any vehicle i've had before. this is of particular concern in rural driving where there are no street lights. dealer has adjusted them (to no avail). *jb

EXTERIOR LIGHTING - TAIL LIGHTS
10/18/20041
This complaint relates to my professional observations concerning tail-light visibility deficiencies on chrysler pacifica vehicles (i'm an accident investigator and forensic photographer). the tail light design on pacifica vehicles is large, however, the amount of red light actually transmitted through the taillight is only a thin circle. furthermore, the circle of red light can only be seen when directly behind the vehicle...from any off-axis position, such as in the next lane, only a small arc of red light can be seen. in bright daylight conditions, brake lights are almost impossible to see unless one is following directly behind the pacifica; at night, the tail lights and brake lights are easier to see, but remain extremely hard to see in comparison to almost every other vehicle on the road. that is, other vehicles easily transmit the red illumination across the entire rear quadrant of 180-degrees or more, so vehicles following can see the lights no matter what lane they are in behind a vehicle. the pacifica only transmits the full extent of red illumination across a very narrow range...maybe 10 or 20 degrees...directly behind the pacifica. off-axis vehicles in the same or adjacent lanes do not see the full red illumination, as the tail light design has some type of prism effect that limits the transmission of this light across the entire rear quadrant. i'll be happy to photograph this design issue if needed for your investigation.*ak
