2004 chrysler pacifica sub-frame rotted out. the rest of the underneath is fine. the rest of the car is fine. car in uninspectable and cannot be driven. called chrysler, they said they would do nothing, even though is a common problem. will cost thousands to replace.

I own a chrysler pacifica 2004 awd. the vehicle has had numerous suspension problems, such as a clicking sound and an unstable vehicle. i believe it might be the front cradle of the vehicle but am not sure if this is the exact cause. also, when i brake, the car makes a huge thud sound. i replaced the brakes and rotors as the dealer has done but the noise is still there. please investigate this matter as many other pacifica owners have encountered this. thank you so much.

2004 chrysler pacifica with 72,000 miles. about three months ago started hearing a clunking noise while car was changing gears. i started doing some research on what the problem might be.i found that a lot of other owners were having problems with their motor mounts. i put my car on a lift to inspect it and there was fluid leaking from around the motor mounts. the bushings were completely busted and broken. when i tried to get new parts, the dealership said they were not covered under warranty and were on backorder indefinitely. they say that i should just drive it until they get parts. i have found out from just about every owner of a pacifica that they too have had to replace their motor mounts as well, at their own expense.(around $500) sometimes twice. why hasn't chrysler addressed this as a defect? this is a very costly and dangerous defect that needs to be addressed. *tr
05/04/2009550001
Loud clunking noise coming from engine during starts, stops, and turns. discovered the noise is related to weak motor mounts cracking and breaking. through online research i have discovered hundreds of similar complaints about chrysler pacifica motor mounts. they are not under warranty and the parts are not available due to backorder issues. this is a huge safety issue as motors can come loose during an accident not to mention potential damage to other parts of the vehicle due to the loose motor. chrysler needs to initiate a recall to replace the motor mounts. *tr

1-my 2004 pacifica will not start at times. sometimes 2 weeks can go by without incident, then the car will not start until i hold my foot on the gas. the dealer claims that unless it happens while at their shop, they cannot do anything. 2- the drivers side mirror will change position and make a sound like gears trying to engage but cannot. again, the dealer could not find a problem although it happens each time i use it. 3- i complained about the transmission being sluggish from a parked position until it passes first gear. they told me they could not find a problem. they told me i could pick up the car. i asked them to drive it. they now found the problem and claim the motor mount was broken. they said it happened because of a fender bender i was in. the fender bender occurred two months after purchasing the car and i have been driving it two years since that event without a problem. 4- my headliner keeps sagging where the headliner meets the moonroof. they have fixed it now three times. they said the manual tells them to use sticky velcro tape. i keeps happening. *jb

I have a 2004 chrysler pacifica awd, currently has 50,000 miles. we have had problems since we drove it off the lot. time after time we were told there were no codes signifying any problems, and they could never duplicate the noises we were experiencing. climate control screen went out, this was replaced. message display went out, unable to see safety warnings, compass, menu display stalling when turning at slow speeds popping and clunking noises when turning slowly load clanging noise when shifting from park to reverse, sounds like we ran over a large metal object. leaks on driver side when raining warped rotors at 35,000 miles fuel gauge needle will plunge from f to e when there is a least half tank of gas. i have taken the car in on numerous occasions, they can never duplicate the problem noises to diagnose or fix. *nm

After owning my 2004 chrysler pacifia for 7 years, i was told by the dealer, during a routine oilchange, that the subframe is rusted out and wouldnt last much longer. there are two rust holes in the frame structure on the left side and more forming on the right side on the height of the wheels. replacing the subframe (which holds the motor in place) would cost about +$4000!! i have always taking excellent care of this car. it is in great shape inside and out - except the frame. after doing some research online i have found that i am not alone. there is a mulitude of 2004 chrysler owners having the exact same problem as i do. this issue needs to be resolved by chrysler. a subframe is supose to last longer then 7 years!

I took my car in for annual inspection today....omg.....it's uninspectable.....too dangerous to drive.....there are holes in the front sub frame, rear bushings are gone in rear sub frame and the rockers have holes in them.....the engine may well fall out.....! this car has ony 113,000 miles on it.....has been regularly maintained and now, how am i supposed to get to work?? $ 2944 quoted for new parts and more than $1000 for labor to fix.....all of these other owner complaints about the exact same thing tell me chrysler is ripping off it's consumers....my understanding is the metal is so very thin - thin enough to barely support the engine even without any rust!! this is criminal on chrysler's part......they know this is a problem and do nothing???? come on people of the nhtsa - make them do something.....this is clearly a defect.....a very unhappy consumer in maine!! guaranteed no more chrysler product in my future unless they fix this........!

Steering became difficult (tight) with catching during turns. diagnosed as a broken vehicle engine cradle failed on 7 year old vehicle with 60,000 miles. chrylser has acknowledged failures of this part and has provided a 10 year 150,000 mile warranty for 2004-2005 pacifica's that were operated in areas of high road salt usage (mine was in il for 20,000 miles. for some reason chrysler states my vin does not qualify. see copy of letter below: (this letter was provided by a pacifica owner, not sent to me.) this letter is to inform you that the warranty period on your chrysler group llc pacifica's front engine cradle has been extended to 10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first. this engine cradle extended warranty coverage applies to chrysler pacifica model years 2004-2005. we are extending the warranty period on your front engine cradle because some vehicles operated in areas of high road salt usage, may experience engine cradle corrosion resulting in a drive ability vibration and or/shake. if your vehicle is operating properly, there is nothing you are required to do. if you are experiencing the conditions as described in this warranty extension within the 10 year or 150,000 mile period, simply contact your dealer to have repairs performed. your dealer will inspect the engine cradle for perforation corrosion on the rear cross car cradle support and replace if necessary. if you have already experienced this engine cradle concern and have paid to have it repaired, you may be eligible to receive a reimbursement. you may send your original receipts, invoices and/or repair order with adequate proof of payment (copy of the front and back of cancelled check, or copy of credit card receipt, etc.). please mail to the following address for reimbursement, your claim will be acted upon within 60 days of receipt:

I have had my 2004 chrysler pacifica for 5 years. in those 5 years i've had to replace the front bumper 3 times. all three times it was during winter during snow fall. i spoke to someone at an auto body this time around and he told me that it is an issue he has seen with the pacifica where if too much weight is put on the front bumper, it comes off. this could potentially cause an accident if it comes off while driving. i contacted chrysler and they said that there was nothing they could do for me as the warranty was up and there was no recall. i am no left having to fix this again for the third time.

I lease a 2004 pacifica with approx 30,000 on the vehicle. several weeks ago while driving up an interstate highway i felt a front vibration and suddenly heard a loud thump. i immediately exited my car to see if i had a flat tire and noticed that what had made the noise was from losing the bottom half of my front bumper. i drove directly to my dealer whereby the front was inspected and referred to the district parts manager for chrysler. i have just received word from chrysler that they, nor the dealer, will cover this 'lost part' because i never retrieved it from the interstate where it was lying in the middle of the road and had already been run over by at least one or two 18 wheeler trucks. i furthered whether chrysler expected me to pick up this large piece in my business attire or more importantly risk my life in doing so because if i had retrieved the piece from the highway then they would consider it under warranty. i actually had the car in for a routine 3000 mile inspection 1 week prior to this incident and would have expected that something like this would have been noted by the mechanic. chrysler say's that they back their dealers which naturally solicited a response from me that they should rather back their customers first. chrysler broadcasts an excellent bumper to bumper warranty and other than my fan belt failing within two months since taking possession of the car i have not used the warranty. *nm

2004 chrysler pacifica 76000 miles and subframe is completely broke off and my steering is riding on the subframe. basically, my car is collapsing. i could tell when driving it, it felt unsafe. so now i can't even sell my car to put towards a new one. chryler dealership in rochester, mi looked at my car and i told them it was clunking, they couldn't find anything wrong with it??? less than 8000 miles ago they replaced the front end suspension ( at that time it was under warranty). it also has had the entire transmission rebuilt by chrysler. if this doesn't qualify for lemon i don't know what does. what is our recourse? i feel like getting a lawyer....just thankful that i and my son ( 13 yrs now), have not been killed in it.

After a recent snow storm i noticed a mid-sized yellow leak under my vehicle. i brought it to my mechanic who could not find any issue with the fluids, besides a small leak in the transmission fluid. during routine maitenance my mechanic noticed a large rust hold on the subframe about 10-12 inches long and 1-2 inches wide. the moisture from the snow was running through the rust and creating the yellow stain. the mechanic was surprised at the amount of rust and said we need to keep an eye on it. at this point it's still driveable, but it may very well rust to the point where it is unsafe to drive. my mechanic suggested we check for recalls as he felt the failure of the subframe to keep in tact was bad design by the maker. i checked on recalls and found many complaints regarding this exact same issue on the 2004 model. nothing can be done, except replacement of the frame, though we still have another 5 years left on our loan. this is a major safety concern for this year and model of this vehicle.

Clunking sound coming from engine. motor mounts were worn out. also noticed engine cradle on passenger side was rusted and separating at weld. the rust was significant too the point that holes had formed in multiple spots. contacted chrysler dealership and they reported that chrysler has posted a service bulletin on the issue in the last two weeks. no information is available online except for other owners discussing issue.

Motor mounts on my 2004 chrysler pacifica are broken! this is a hight risk and parts seem to be on back order costs are high and this must be recalled. this is a ongoing issue on the pacifica! i found this out after reading serval forums which many many people have the same issue and all cant believe that this is not recalled yet. broken motor mounts can cause tbe engine to fall down onto the street and could cause deadly excidenses!

2004 chrysler pacifica sub-frame rusting. car has approximately 75,000 miles and is 6 years old. the sub-frame is rusted to the point my mechanic is afraid the engine could drop onto the road. he does not believe there is any reason why this amount of corrosion should occur in a car that is only 6 years old. he states it is a very serious saftey hazard.

Was doing oil change and noticed a hole in sub frame/engine cradle. previous oil change noticed nothing other than some rust spots on paint. metal is very thin on the cross member for a subframe that holds engine in place. the sub frame that runs to the front mount and rear mout is much heavier. seen hundreds of complaints online. this seems to be a design flaw rather than normal wear. if this was to fail it would cause serious injury or death. oem part is over $3000, can buy from salvage yard but will have same problem.

After bringing my vehicle in for a clunking noise in the front end the mechanic discovered my engine cradle on my 2004 chrysler pacifica with 108,000 miles is falling apart and rusting through. i contacted chrysler and they would not do anything as the vehicle is over thier 5 year/100,000 mile warranty. upon further research i have seen several cases of this same issue in canada that is being completely fixed by chrysler. also there was a case in the united states that was repaired by chrysler as well. at 6 years old and only 108,000 miles my vehicle can fall apart underneath at any moment and that is unacceptable, especially since this problem is being fixed without question in canada.

I took my 2004 chrysler pacifica, with 92,000 miles, to get new tires after failing inspection because of the tires. after they put new tires on, they discovered that they could not align them because the subframe was completely rusted through. the mechanic strongly advised that i not drive my car home because it was so unsafe and could break at any time. the only way to fix it is to have a new subframe put in. i have not decided whether it is worth spending thousands to replace the corroded frame.

I own a 2004 chrysler pacifica and it just turned 60,000 miles this week. i brought the car in to my mechanic for an oil change. he called me 1/2 hour later an informed me that my car is unsafe to drive. he informed me he found that there was severe frame corrosion under the engine next to the steering rack bolt (there is a rust hole straight through). i would have to replace the whole front frame of the car before it can be driven. i made an appointment with chrysler (spoke with service manager) and they will be looking at the car on tuesday 12/22/2009 but they already informed me there is nothing they can do because it isn't a warranty problem. my fear is that other people with the same car are unaware of this problem and they could be seriously injured or die while driving the car. please help! *tr

Complaint about my 2004 chrysler pacifica. at 70,000 miles i discovered that the engine cradle corroded through is certain areas and heavily rusted in other areas. when discovered i was advised not to drive it any further for fear of the engine or suspension falling out. my first quote was for $4000.00 however, with the help of a nephew we accomplished the replacement of engine cradle for $2600.00. for this condition to develop almost seems criminal. i previously was a forensic photographer for personal injury claims and in fact worked for attorneys who represented chrysler in law suits. it my many (35) years experience, i never witnessed this extensive corrosion on a relatively new vehicle. i hope this complaint will allow me to attach photos. *tr

Frame at right front holding engine and wheel assembly rusted through on my 2004 chrysler pacifica. something like this should never happen on a 4 1/2 year old car with 43,780 miles on it, and always kept in the garage, and promptly serviced at all times. the same problem happened recently to our friends on their 2004 chrysler pacifica, this definitely is a problem on those cars. i'm sure that if that happened on two cars there are most likely a lot more on the road waiting for a disaster to happen. the dealer and his staff that serviced my car advised me not to drive it any more. since there was no new part available for several weeks i had to buy another car. chrysler informed the dealer that part is not covered under warranty even under the extended warranty i purchased . *tr

We were told last week that the motor mounts on our 2004 chrysler pacifica were gone. not broken.... gone. i had noticed some front end shaking when i hit the brakes at a high rate of speed. i also noticed that the engine was loud when i would hit the accelerator from a stop. our mechanic discovered that the motor mounts were missing and causing the issues. every time i hit the gas, the engine jumps up a couple of inches. my mechanic called around and was unable to get his hands on any motor mounts at this time. he was told that they are on backorder at this time. i have been doing some research and have found that this is a common problem with pacificas. i have found a site, www.topix.com, has a forum open to list the issues with these cars. over the last couple of years, many people have stated that this part is on back order and can't be found anywhere. one person also said that chrysler is not making the part any more. i find this to be poor business on chrysler's part. i try to buy american, but i have to be honest.... my confidence is failing here. i feel chrysler should do the 'right thing' and make good to all the pacifica owners who are having this same issue. at the very least, make the part!!!!!! *tr

Took car to dealer for routine maintenance. dealer said that the car is unsafe to drive and that the engine subframe was corroded. after an internet search found that this is a known and common problem and that apparently the part was recalled in canada. when i spoke with chrysler, they said that they would not provide any support, and that had i reported the problem when it started they would have repaired it under warranty. i have had the car regularly serviced at the dealer. as a consumer i have no way of knowing if the engine subframe is corroded. however, a dealer who is maintaining the car should have been able to do so. in any event, the car is unsafe to drive, i am expected to pay a significant sum, and this problem is pervasive. the dealer told me a similar car came this past week with an identical problem. *tr

The subframe of the car is rusting terribly. i have been advised that it will become a hazard to drive the car in the future. we were advised to replace the subframe for safety purpose. i researched this online and found that this is a common problem with this year, make and model. i have never encountered this problem before with any other vehicle i have owned. i have always maintained our vehicles and have owned vehicles longer than this. this vehicle has not been subjected to harsh conditions and should not be showing this level of destructive rust. we ask the nhtsa to look into this matter and to issue a recall on this vehicle to have these parts replaced for safety purposes. i believe that chrysler is not altering the public to this very strong potential safety issue which i am afraid will cause harm or potential death if the frame on these vehicles gives out. a quick glance on google and one can readily find that this issue is a very large one indeed. we ask for your help in protecting us.  I purchased this vehicle used with very low mileage. it is in great condition until i started hearing a noise in the front end. i took into the garage to have new tires and brakes put on it. when the mechanic put it on the rack, he said that the frame was rusted through. so, instead of new tires and brakes i now need a new frame. i am just thankful that i was not driving while this happen. i was wondering if this problem as affected other owners also. *tr

Noticed a lot of rust on frame at front of vehicle. body shop confirmed that the engine cradle was badly rusted and has to be replaced. car is past the extended warranty of 7/75,000. this is way too much damage for a car with 67,000 miles. *tr

My mechanic has advised that my car has a rusted subframe, parts of which have rusted through. it is due for inspection by the end of the month, and i have been advised that it is rusted bad enough to fail inspection. i need this vehicle, and have taken great care of it. i changed the timing belt last year, and have kept it in a garage. i cannot afford to purchase another vehicle or replace the subframe. this is not normal rusting. my local chrysler dealers, naturally, have told me that the car has too many miles and is no longer under warranty. i have done my research on this. chrysler has been replacing subframes in some pacificas, particularly canada. there is a problem with this model; the metal was not properly coated or something. it is time for chrysler to issue a recall and replace these subframes. when vehicles rust, it should not start in the subframe. i am a single mother; i need this car to drive to work and for family use. my kids and i are not safe in it, and if it can't pass inspection i will be without a vehicle! *tr

My car repair shop noticed the subframe on my 2004 pacifica as rusted through enough that the shop's owner could get a finger through the rust hole. he said the pacifica would be adequate for the vacation i am about to take, but also said this issue should be handled within the next year or the suspension system would fail. he also added i should file this complaint as a potential recall action, as it was not on the current list. for the record, northern virginia (near washington dc) does get snow and ice, and does treat its roads when that happens. btw, i tried to file this complaint last night, but your system was doing maintenance when i tried to send it to you. i don't think this went through last night, but.... *tr

Took car to the shop for routine schedule maintenance. the mechanic said that the subframe was severely damaged by rust and recommended replacing it as soon as possible. he stated that is very dangerous driving a car in this condition. i googled pacifica subfame rust and find out that this issue is huge. the mechanic said that this deterioration is not normal. there should be a recall campaign to make chrysler aware of this problem. *tr
