Driving around 40 the vehicle started to shake. i thought maybe a wheel bearing or tie rod was the issue. upon taking it to the shop to get checked i was told that the engine cradle was rusted to the point of almost failing. i am currently having the cradle replaced. had that occurred at a higher speed i hat to think what may have happened. i called chrysler and was told there is a replacement program for vehicles built between feb 23rd and mar31st 2004. because my vehicle was built january 23rd 2004 it was not covered and i received no letter. despite the fact i was driving a vehicle with the same problem in a very dangerous state. there should be a nationwide safety recall.

My mechanic called to my attention that the sub-frame on my 2004 chrysler pacifica had rusted through and developed cracks adjacent to the rusted area. i was advised that the vehicle was unsafe and that the sub-frame required replacement. the local chrysler dealer was unaware of any recall, but checking the internet i found this condition to have occured to numerous other pacificas. i contacted chrysler customer service who infomred me that an extended warranty had been issued for 2004-2005 chrysler pacifica produced during a specific time period and originally licensed in snow states. the warranty covers sub-frame replacement up to 10 years and 150,000 miles. unfortunately my vehicle was produced a few months prior to the warranty coverage period. it is quite unlikely that the sub-frame was produced satisfactorily and then it became substandard - especially since thie earlier production on my vehicle has rusted through. it is shameful and irresponsible that a company with as much history and engineering capabilities has designed and manufactured a vehicle that becomes unsafe in less than 10 years or 100,000 miles. if they are not accepting liability to replace this inferior part they should at least have the decency to have contacted owners to make them aware that there is a 'potential for the sub-frame to have rusted to a condition that presents a safery hazard.'

The subframe of the car is rusting terribly. i have been advised that it will become a hazard to drive the car in the furture. we were advised to replace the subframe for safety purpose. i researched this online and found that this is a common problem with this year, make and model. i have never encountered this problem before with any other vehicle i have owned. i have have alwasy maintained our vehicles and have owned vehicles longer than this. this vehichel has not been subjected to harsh conditions and should not be showing this level of destructive rust. we ask the nhtsa to look into this matter and to issue a recall on this vehicle to have these parts replaced for safety purposes. i believe that chrysler is not alltering the public to this very strong potential safety issue which i am afraid will cause harm or potential death if the frame on these vehicles gives out. a quick glace on google and one can readily find that this issue is a very large one indeed. we ask for your help in protecting us. thank you. mark cercone

I took the car to my mechanic for front end noise. it was determined the front suspension frame was rusted and the car was unsafe to drive. contacted chrysler and was told to take to dealer. took car to doan dodge in greece ny. after several calls chrysler has refused to repair. the cost of the repair is $1600 and it is a known problem. i am told they are quietly repairing some complaints. this car was over $34,000 new and should not be having this problem!! *tr

I purchased this vehicle used with very low mileage. it is in great condition until i started hearing a noise in the front end. i took into the garage to have new tires and brakes put on it. when the mechanic put it on the rack, he said that the frame was rusted through. so, instead of new tires and brakes i now need a new frame. i am just thankful that i was not driving while this happen. i was wondering if this problem as affected other owners also. *tr

My 2004 chrysler pacifica makes a loud popping noise when turning. it doesn't do it all of the time, but if you turn right, then turn left it will pop. if you're driving around a small turn and it pops the vehicle body will shift and you momentarily lose control of the vehicle. *tr

My mechanic has advised that my car has a rusted subframe, parts of which have rusted through. it is due for inspection by the end of the month, and i have been advised that it is rusted bad enough to fail inspection. i need this vehicle, and have taken great care of it. i changed the timing belt last year, and have kept it in a garage. i cannot afford to purchase another vehicle or replace the subframe. this is not normal rusting. my local chrysler dealers, naturally, have told me that the car has too many miles and is no longer under warranty. i have done my research on this. chrysler has been replacing subframes in some pacificas, particularly canada. there is a problem with this model; the metal was not properly coated or something. it is time for chrysler to issue a recall and replace these subframes. when vehicles rust, it should not start in the subframe. i am a single mother; i need this car to drive to work and for family use. my kids and i are not safe in it, and if it can't pass inspection i will be without a vehicle! *tr

Took car to the shop for routine schedule maintenance. the mechanic said that the subframe was severely damaged by rust and recommended replacing it as soon as possible. he stated that is very dangerous driving a car in this condition. i googled pacifica subfame rust and find out that this issue is huge. the mechanic said that this deterioration is not normal. there should be a recall campaign to make chrysler aware of this problem. *tr

I took my care into the sear auto center in annapolis, md for a tune up and also asked them to check for the knocking noise under my hood as is was affecting my steering and making the car hard to steer when going around curves. i was told that the front end suspension needed to be replaced badly as the parts were severely rusted. i was also told that i would have to leave the car at the facility overnight as they were having problems removing the old parts due to heavy corrosion on the old parts and it would take more time to get the parts off and replace then with new parts. in december of 2011, i purchsed new tires and was also told that i needed to purchse new wheels because the current wheels on the vehicle were starting to rust. in september, i had my brake pads replaced and was also told that i needed new rotors because those were also rusting. i do not live in a flood zone, nor have i ever had my car in a flood. i was made aware of a recall by chrysler yesterday of its 2004-2005 jeep brand due to corrosion and wanted to submit this as there may also me chryslers such as mine that have had corrosion issues from normal usage. a few years ago, i also had to have the rear differential serviced due to a leak and this may have also been due to corrosion.

Front subframe ( engine cradle ) has approximately 3 inch rust hole on right side of main member near the top behind oil pan . rust hole originated from the inside of the subframe. this vehicle is only 7 years old and this is a critical support component for the steering, suspension, and engine that is now structurally compromised . i believe this to be caused by a manufacturing defect of the subframe. no vehicle should rust out this soon. i have found many, many complaints about this issue on numerous websites. have reported problem to local chrysler dealership, miller bros. in martinsburg, wv, and also to chrysler customer service. was advised by dealer service manager that he had heard of the problem, but had not seen this issue himself and that my warranty was expired and they could not do anything. chrysler response is pending, however was told also that warranty was expired and not to expect anything. they state there is no recall for this issue, however there are rumours of a silent recall for this issue and vehicles have been repaired in canada for free on the web. this is a very dangerous situation and that i believe needs to be addressed by a govt mandated safety recall like the ford windstar subframe rust issues. please help. estimated cost of repair is approximately $4500.00. i cannot afford to pay for this, nor should i have too, plus i cannot sell the vehicle in this condition.

2004 chrysler pacifica with 117,250 miles experiencing severe rust and deterioration in the rear suspension subframe. the mounting point of the rear shocks to the subframe is almost completely rusated through. two mechanics have told me that such rust should not be expected on such a young vehicle. many here have mentioned the front engine cradle rusting through. i'm experiencing the same type of rust issue but in the back. my mechanic says the car is getting to the unsafe to drive area! help!!!

2004 chrysler pacifica with 117,250 miles experiencing severe rust and deterioration in the rear suspension subframe. the mounting point of the rear shocks to the subframe is almost completely rusated through. two mechanics have told me that such rust should not be expected on such a young vehicle. many here have mentioned the front engine cradle rusting through. i'm experiencing the same type of rust issue but in the back. my mechanic says the car is getting to the unsafe to drive area! help!!!

I own a chrysler pacifica 2004 awd. the vehicle has had numerous suspension problems, such as a clicking sound and an unstable vehicle. i believe it might be the front cradle of the vehicle but am not sure if this is the exact cause. also, when i brake, the car makes a huge thud sound. i replaced the brakes and rotors as the dealer has done but the noise is still there. please investigate this matter as many other pacifica owners have encountered this. thank you so much.

Tl-the contact owns a 2004 chrysler pacifica. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for a routine maintenance and found the front sub frame was corroded and rusted. the dealer informed her there are no recalls or warranty and the repairs would cost $5,000 or she should trade the vehicle in. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 138,000....mw

We were told last week that the motor mounts on our 2004 chrysler pacifica were gone. not broken.... gone. i had noticed some front end shaking when i hit the brakes at a high rate of speed. i also noticed that the engine was loud when i would hit the accelerator from a stop. our mechanic discovered that the motor mounts were missing and causing the issues. every time i hit the gas, the engine jumps up a couple of inches. my mechanic called around and was unable to get his hands on any motor mounts at this time. he was told that they are on backorder at this time. i have been doing some research and have found that this is a common problem with pacificas. i have found a site, www.topix.com, has a forum open to list the issues with these cars. over the last couple of years, many people have stated that this part is on back order and can't be found anywhere. one person also said that chrysler is not making the part any more. i find this to be poor business on chrysler's part. i try to buy american, but i have to be honest.... my confidence is failing here. i feel chrysler should do the 'right thing' and make good to all the pacifica owners who are having this same issue. at the very least, make the part!!!!!! *tr

Vehicle was making a clunking noise at acceleration, vehicle was also making noises that sounded like the shocks needed to be replaced. dealership told me that the both lower control arms were broken and needed to be replaced along with the front and rear motor mounts. after this was done 2 days later vehicle check engine light came on dealership has told me that the emission pump and solenoid has failed - the emission pump was just replaced in november 2007. from reviewing the website it looks like chrylser needs to take responsibility for service. i have asked them for all of my parts that they are removing from my vehicle since i no longer trust the dealership and will be looking for an outside mechanic to service my car. mg *tr

In august of 2007 i noticed a clucking noise in the front of my vehicle when ever i was on uneven roads or a bumpy service. i thought my shocks needed to be replaced so we did that but the noise is continuing to get worse, i took it to a mechanic in october he replaced the bushings which didn't seem to solve the problem, he doesn't know what the problem is, i have spent over a couple of thousand dollars on problems with this vehicle already and i am getting a little worried about driving it down the road it sounds so bad i think a front tire or something worse might break and i will have an accident injuring myself or someone else in the process, this needs to be reviewed by chrysler for the 2004 pacifica, i know this the first year for this vehicle but the recalls to fix stuff are few and far between if they even bother, it just seems like chrysler could care less. you can't even by a hanes or any kind of manual for this vehicle yet which is stupid let alone by parts from anyone for it. *tr

Took the `04 pacifica to dealership for clunking noise on drivers side front. diagn. was for two hydraulic motor mounts $600. now tells me the clunk is still there and needs upper and lower control arms replaced $800. i am disgruntled that first and foremost this is costing me so much to repair, but secondly the manufacturer has been aware of these defects for quite some time. many complaints at http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f0ec024/186 discuss this very same issue. it appears that chrysler has been aware of this defect since the first year of production, but has not offered up any recall. this is a major mechanical failure waiting to happen and all of these vehicles need to be recalled and repaired before major accidents occur. these vehicles are predominantly being driven by families and there needs to be a remedy before any critical failure of parts needlessly takes any lives. i implore you to act on this complaint. *tr

Oil pan plug became stripped very easily resulting in need for oil pan replacement. mechanics reported oil pan unusually thin where plug screws in resulting in easy strip. to emphasize this must be a frequent occurrence, i was informed that my car is now on a waiting list of at least a month before one would be available. i was further notified that 156 are back ordered and 96 additional are in the pipeline for this particular pan for this engine. if i had the other engine available for this car, there would be immediate replacement. i was further warned that the car is dangerous to drive now because the plug could fall out at any time with a resultant fire and/or seizing up of the engine from rapid drainage of oil. *tr the consumer also heard front end noises. the consumer was informed the right side lever bushing was defective. updated 05/28/08

I am only the second owner my 2004 pacifica for three months and have never owned a vehicle with this many problems. i only drove it two weeks when i started hearing a terrible rattling noise around the front right tire. i had my local chrysler dealership look at the car. they said i need to replace the rotors and sway links. we replaced those however the problems was not fixed. i took it back at which now it's pouring oil out from under it. they attempted to fix it however they do not. i took it back a third time they finally fixed the oil leak but the rattling and popping in the front suspension is still there. i have since taken it to an independent mechanic who assisted that the top and bottom motor mounts were completely broken. i replaced those and they seem to think the popping is possibly the control arm or bushings. only two days ago the air pressure sensor in the left front wheel broke and i have an engine light on. the engine light reader stated the car had an emission system leak. i can not believe a car this new could have all these problems. i am very unsatisfied with this automobile. i am in shock. chrysler should make this right. *jb

After having my pacifica for 1.5 years and experiencing 19 problems (54 days in the shop!); 2-3 of which are recurring (i.e. the engine light coming on), even the service department at my dealership stated that they would stand behind my efforts to get a vehicle replacement! we are completely happy with the dealership's service as they have stood behind this lemon better than the manufacturer appears to be able to. after talking with the chrysler representative, mr. craig kishner, i was informed that the best chrysler could do was to refund my extended warranty price. i pushed back and my boyfriend also called to announce our dismay at the manner in which we are being treated after being tremendously patient for 1.5 years to see if this lemon could be repaired to a reasonable level of usability. mr kishner then came back with the answer that chrysler would only step up for the previously laughable answer. we had hoped for a laudable answer. i find it difficult to believe that a manufacturer, with the questionable track record of chrysler, would want to create more adverse publicity than they already have chalked up over the course of their existence. nonetheless, we will pursue this through the courts and undoubtedly tell all of our friends and business colleauges of this horrific experience. *ak
