RQ06002CHRYSLER GROUP LLC02/27/200606/22/2006ENGINE STALLING
On february 27, 2006 rq06-002 was opened in response to 60 complaints of engine stall, mostly during left-hand turns, in model year (my) 2004 to 2006 chrysler pacifica vehicles that were outside the scope of recall 04v-113.in march 2004, daimlerchrysler initiated recall 04v-113 on 34,561 my 2004 pacifica vehicles to correct a condition that could result in engine stall while making a left-hand turn after a cold-start.during rq06-002 it was determined that recall 04v-113 did correct the specific cause of the engine stalling condition for that specific population.however, two other conditions were identified that could also cause engine stalling during turning maneuvers:(1) an issue with misbuilt fuel pumps that primarily affected about 17,000 my 2005 pacifica vehicles built during august and september 2004; and (2) a software condition affecting vapor purge in about 131,000 my 2005-06 pacifica vehicles built from july 2004 through november 2005. an engineering analysis, ea06-013, has been opened to further examine the scope, frequency and safety consequences associated with each of these conditions in the subject vehicles.

In a november 8, 2006 letter, daimlerchrysler corporation (dcc) submitted a defect information report to nhtsa concerning two separate defect conditions that could result in engine stall while driving in model year (my) 2005-2006 chrysler pacifica vehicles (nhtsa recall no. 06v-432).my 2005 vehicles built in august and september of 2004 are being recalled to correct a defect in the secondary fuel pump modules, which may have an improper press fitting on the inlet that can become dislodged and shut-off fuel flow.all my 2005-2006 vehicles built between july 8, 2004 and november 11, 2005 are being recalled to correct a powertrain control module (pcm) software issue with the evaporative emissions system which can also cause stalling.for both conditions, engine stall incidents tend to occur during left turns. there were 17,375 vehicles built during august and september 2004 that were affected by both the fuel pump module and pcm software conditions.there were 30 voqs submitted to odi, 58 consumer complaints to dcc and 829 field reports relating to vehicles produced during this period.while these are mostly related to the fuel pump condition, some may have been caused by the software fault.the resulting stall while driving failure rate for this period is 5,278 incidents per 100,000 vehicles.there were two crashes alleged to have resulted from these incidents.there were 1,021 warranty claims for fuel pump module replacement that appear related to engine stall (5.9% claim rate). the population for the remaining vehicles included in 06v-432 (i.e., those only affected by the software condition) is 114,523.there were 97 voqs, 124 consumer complaints to dcc and 454 dcc field reports relating to these vehicles.the resulting stall while driving failure rate is 589 per 100,000 vehicles.there were seven crashes alleged to have resulted from these incidents.there were 3,211 warranty claims for pcm reflash that appear related to engine stall in the total population of 131,898 vehicles (2.4% claim rate). all calculations are based on unique vins (multiple/repeat failures not included in these calculations) with no duplication across categories.dcc's recall will reprogram the pcm software and replace the fuel pump modules in all affected vehicles.this engineering analysis has been closed.

A week ago i smelled an awful burning smell coming from my 2005 chrysler pacifica. i took it to the mechanic for investigation and repairs needed. the car needed an alternator, water pump and serpentine belt. while they were fixing this problem i told them to investigate the rattling noise coming from the frontend. they found that the engine cradle was rusting away. the garage suggested that i contact chrysler as this is a known problem with pacificas but it has not been recalled. i did my research and found that there are extended warranties being offered for this issue. i called chrysler directly and they told me because i was the second owner of the vehicle and they didn't know how the vehicle was treated and because of the mileage, they would not assist me in any way. keep in mind i am a student and now have a car that is unsafe and chrysler could care less!! the fight does not end here. please contact me if you are having the same problem and what your outcome has been.

The engine cradle is corroding away, there is a large split in one side. chrysler has issued a safety recall for the same year, make and model cars for this known defect. however even though my car has the very same defect its particular vin is not included. *tr

Had our 2005 pacifica in for routine maintenance at local dealer. they notified us that the engine cradle had cracking. we checked with chrysler if there was a service bulletin or recall on this 7 yr old car and were told no. we then searched on the internet and found a letter dated 11/9/10, written by chrysler, to the owner of a'04-05 age pacifica, informing them the warranty period on their front engine cradle had been extended to 10 yrs or 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first. the warranty was extended to vehicles in areas of high road salt usage, as they may experience engine cradle corrosion resulting in a driveability vibration and/or shake. we live and bought our car, in minnesota which is a state of high road salt usage but chysler will not back the warranty extension to us because the car's first owner was in nevada (we are the 2nd owner). we feel the letter written by chrylser clearly shows they are aware and admit the engine cradle in this car is subject to corrosion but they will not fix the problem. this denial puts the driver, passengers and other vehicles on the road, at clear risk of incident. chrysler needs to issue a recall to fix admitted and very serious problem. *tr

While turning into the bank parking lot at 10mph the car just stalled. i was unable to brake or steer out the way. when gas gauge reads empty i am unable to fill the tank with gas as it begins to spill back out. gas gauge reads 1/2 full when it is really empty? miles to empty sensor incorrect therefore i have no idea when i need gas. driver side exterior headlamp seems dimmer than the other lamp. after repairing the entire front end(suspension) still sounds like the front end is going to fall apart when driving on ohio roads. felt it was necessary to document as i do not feel safe in this car. *tr

Experiencing a vibration/shaking in the front end of the vehicle. brought the vehicle to my local mechanic and it was discovered that the k-frame assembly that holds the engine is completely rotted out. my mechanic advised me that this is a serious safety issue and should be covered by a recent tsb put out by chrysler on 3/16/12, number 13-001-12. however, upon reading the tsb, it only covers those vehicles made from 2/23/04 - 3/31/04. my vehicle was manufactured in may 2004. i called chrysler directly and they told me because i was the third owner of the vehicle and they didn't know how the vehicle was treated and because of the high mileage, they would not assist me in any way. i filed a report with the nh attorney general's office. i then received a phone call from chrysler's claims investigation division. they offered to pay for one part which cost $1,550 (front cross member). i did not accept her offer as the cost to repair my vehicle in full with all necessary parts and labor totals $2,362.07. my claim was then referred to the chrysler business center who would make a final decision as to whether or not they would repair my vehicle. i emphasized that this was deemed a safety issue by my mechanic. i also spoke with a local chrysler service center and they informed me that they had seen 6 of these same repairs on my exact vehicle within the past 12 months and that this should be deemed a recall through the manufacturer. on september 24, 2012, i received a copy of a letter from chrysler to the nh attorney general's office stating that my vehicle was purchased used and is beyond any warranty on the vehicle. as such chrysler group llc will not be participating in any repair consideration. *tr

I have previously reported a problem with the 2005 chrysler pacifica stalling when turning. the problem has progressively worsened. this month alone, (december 2011) the car has stalled 5 times. i am afraid to drive the car for fear that i will crash when it stalls. there are so many chrysler pacifica owners that are reporting the same problem. along with the stalling issue, the gas pedal sticks and needs to be pushed rather hard. a third problem i have encountered this year is the headlamps burning out. i have replaced the front left headlamp three this year. i am familiar with the handling instructions for headlamps. i am greatly distressed by these problems, especially the stalling. i have children that i drive around in this car. please do something about chrysler's failure to fix this problem.

This has happened three times now (today being most recent). chrysler pacifica's engine completely shuts off when taking a left or cutting across traffic to left going at a slow speed. this is extremely dangerous and we have a toddler who we are concerned when we drive in the car. dealer has run reports and checked car out twice and found nothing. no codes pull up despite the fact the engine light comes on and the system dash says perform service.

I own a 2005 chrysler pacifica that was bought brand new in october 2004. in october 2009, i was driving home during afternoon rush hour. i noticed my car smoking and attempted just to make it home. about 20 minutes later, my car began to hesitate and turned off once or twice when i stopped at stop lights. eventually, the car shut down completely on a major thoroughfare and would not restart. after being towed to the nearest dealership, i discovered that the radiator hose had been blown off and a hole basically ripped in the coolant jug as a result. repair cost: $564.00. prior to releasing the vehicle, the service technicians noticed how loudly and roughly the car was running and did further tests, to discover that the motor mounts are broken and in need of repair, which caused the problem that i paid nearly $600 to fix. projected cost: an additional $900. that's a total of $1500 for a four-year-old car!!! i've searched and have seen numerous reports of repeated motor mount breaks and problems. called chrysler who basically is turning a blind eye to the numerous complaints. *tr

Broken motor mounts on my 05 chrysler pacifica,in reading the chrysler forum, this is a major common problem and a dangerous condition and the replacement parts have been on back order for months this has been recurring on all pacifica's since 04.and the cost for parts and labor is over $500.00. this problem should be a major recall. my understanding that the mounts only last about 15000 miles. *tr

Rear motor mounts seem to be a big issue for chrysler pacificas. i have a 2005 touring and was told 6 months ago that i would need to replace mine. at that time, they were on national back order of over 1,900!! i'm sure that number has risen greatly since january '09. if that many rear motor mounts are on back order, it would stand to reason that this is a real problem with this part. why would chrysler not cover replacing this part under warranty?! it's bad enough that we have to wait an indefinite amount of time to receive the replacement part. how safe is this car to drive with the engine moving around so much?! i've heard and read differing opinions on the safety issue. if it is indeed a danger to drive a car in this condition, what are we supposed to do for transportation?! chrysler needs to take an extensive look into this and many other issues that pacifica owners have had to deal with. i, myself, have spent a lot of time at the local dealership getting defective parts replaced. unfortunately, there have been parts that weren't covered under warranty which i read about as being a common problem. i've even read that the pacifica may qualify for the lemon law with so many common problems. *tr

My 2005 chrysler pacifica doesn't go when i release the brake to drive it. it hesitates and then moves. i took it to the dealership and they notified me that 2 of my motor mounts were cracked and that's what was causing it. i tried to get the parts and apparently 250 of them are on backorder. we have called every dealership in san antonio and surrounding cities and no dealer has them, many have told us that they are on back order and they don't have a date of when they are to be shipped, (could be months), none of this of course was covered under the extended warranty that we have. my problem is that this vehicle isn't that old and has 68000 miles on it, i am shocked that the motor mounts are already cracked and need to be replaced. if 250 of them are on back order, doesn't that say something about this vehicle and the mounts. it is expensive to replace, labor costing $500, and we can't even get the parts because no one has them. i feel this is a safety issue because the car at times hesitates to go once i release the brake and apply the gas. i am concerned that other owners are feeling the same way i do, cheated. please respond. *tr

I have a 2005 chrysler pacifica, was having problems with my car the dealer told me it was the motor mounts and had it repair that cost me $500. then after less than a year i had the same problems again, then to only find out that the motor mount that was place on my car was faulty from the factory and that the product is on back order. i am sitting here now with a car with bad motor mount and waiting for the product that i might never get. was told it was on a nationwide back order of 2500 plus vehicles. this many people are having the same problem i am having and no recall. i find that careless. just because the chrysler dealership is having financial problems doesn't make it right to put the customer safety at risk. i cant take my car on long trips due to being scared it will break down on me while my baby is in the car. *tr

The rear motor on my 2005 chrysler pacifica has failed by busting under torque load. this is a defective condition for this part as it is fluid filled and continually allows damaging conditions to develop to the engine if not repaired. chrysler is aware of the problem as many owner have this problem and have contacted chrysler about it. they continued to do nothing. the part is on national backorder as of now with 1900+ outstanding. i cannot correct the problem obviously until the dealers take shipment of the part. google this problem and you will see it is a real problem for chrysler owners. owners are even considering a class action lawsuit. chrysler should issue a recall for this part at a minimum. *tr

Massive vapors started to emit from my 2005 chrysler pacifica engine. had to get the car towed to dealership in forest park, il. was advised that engine mounts broke and needs to be replaced. because of engine mount breakage, the engine can fall down. in my case, it cause various connections and fluid pipes to break and/or be disconnected. i now have waited for three months for replacement parts, but chrysler has none due to backorder. i have browsed many blogs and there are hundreds of people in different blogs complaining about same issue. chrysler should have recalled the part, but has not done so. please help with causing chrysler to recall this faulty part and with getting chrysler to provide replacement parts! *tr

We purchased our 2005 chrysler pacifica on june 24, 2005: 10 stalling episodes to date. 1st & 2nd stalling events occurred within 6 weeks of purchase; both involving slow-speed left-hand turns. car completely stalled - no ability to steer. once in park, pac able to start. took car back to dealer where, after 1 day's worth of investigation, technicians said they could not replicate problem & since no diagnostic codes appeared, there was nothing to fix. i googled chrysler pacifica stalls & found 100s of similar complaints for both 2004 & 2005 models. i printed examples & headed to dealer. after confronting technicians with the complaints they admitted they had seen several other pacs for the same stalling problem. in fact, technicians had replaced iac motor on other pacs they had serviced for stalling problem - same remedy suggested in googled complaints but not offered to me. dealership replaced iac motor for free. due to general concern about apparent dangerous nature of all pacs & outrage over deceptive service at dealer, i complained to chrysler corp. got a feeble corporate response about my dissatisfaction with my service needs. chrysler never even mentioned stalling problem. iac fix seemed to work until 1.5 months ago when pac stalled again. i decided it was time to respond to the recall involving the pcm reprogramming & headed back to dealer. 3 weeks after pcm fix, car is stalling every time i slow down, whether turning or not. pac is currently at dealer. technicians refuse to deal with this as a mechanical problem with pac model - obviously given no direction from chrysler corp to do so. dealer says we are responsible for paying for anything they do to fix problem - totally absurd since nothing they have done to date has fixed problem. bottom line: pac models are experiencing systematic engine failures=totally unsafe cars. hope nhtsa investigates problem & forces chrysler to offer customers real solutions to potentially fatal flaw. *tr

Check engine light at approximately 40,000 miles. the check light has come on the vehicle indicating cylinder three misfired. i have taken vehicle to the shop the first time and had the coil replaced. the same light came on with the same warning. this time the spark plugs were replaced, the injections cleaned out, the throttle body cleaned out. i just got it back yesterday and i feel confident that i will have the same thing over the next few days. when this happens, the vehicle idles rough and the car has no power. this vehicle has been maintained higher than the standards call for in the manual. looks like chrysler is good for about 40,000 miles, then be prepared to spend some money. i plan to trade the vehicle for a toyota, though i had supported american made vehicles in the past, with a product like this, you can't afford to. the total cost thus far has been $600.00. it appears that chrsyler knows the problem exists because of the bulletins, yet they will not recall the car ,and do what is right for the consumers. people can't afford to pay for a vehicle and repair it at the same time with so few miles. the pacifica is a great riding car ,and i otherwise thoroughly enjoyed it. *ak

We have a 2005 chrysler pacifica. that keeps cutting off. the first time it happen i thought well maybe it was something i did. the second time was when i was turning onto a 2 lane road come home late. the car just turned completely off. no warning at all. thankfully the car swerved and missed me and my kids. i then took it toallen samuel's alliance. i told them what was happening and also told them my left light keeps having a short in it. and at times cuts off. the dealer called me back and advised that the light had a defect to it and that for the engine failure it was due to my throttle needing to be cleaned. that was not covered under warranty and had to pay $300 to get that cleaned. i then was called back several hours later and was told that the throttle had been clean but it they test drove it and it seemed like something else was going on. they asked if i would let them keep it until the morning so that they can have there tech look at it again in the morning. i said okay although at this point it was going on the 4th day with out having a replacement vehicle. i was called the next day and was told it was the rear motor mount that need to be replaced. and that was covered however i need to pay my deductible. we went ahead and had them fix the problem . this was at the end of july. it is now september and my 2005 chrysler pacifica is in the shop again .because as i was driving it staled on me again... took it back to the shop and on my way there it staled again. all of sudden my 2005 chrysler pacifica stared making this loud noise when i would accelerated and or turn left........ when we got to the dealer they advise again that now another motor mount has broke... my car has been there a week. and i have not received a loaner car because the warranty company is saying that they will not replace it my 2005 chrysler only has 39,926 ....and the dealership is saying that they will help us out with payment plans the repair is 1,100. *jb

About a month and a half ago, my chrysler pacifica 2005 started to have a couple of probably related problems, one of which can be dangerous. the car will stall when turning left. if a car is coming up behind me, i could get rear ended. the other problem is that my fuel gauge will show a half tank one minute and almost empty the next. when i have filled up, it would only take 15 gallons, meaning that there are still 8 gallons left. i have an appointment in one week with my local dealer and hope that they can fix this, as it is potentially dangerous. *jb

2005 chrysler pacifica stalled for the 4th time since lease purchase (august 2006). i drove ~25 miles to work and the car stalled while making a left turn into my work parking lot. the only warning light that came on was the oil light. after a minute of sitting, the car was able to be restarted. the dealership stated no fault registered on the car's computer, and tried to recreate the stall but were unable to. no repair was made. on 20 aug 2006 the same incident occurred: car stalled while making a left turn into work parking lot. same dealership had looked at car and made the following repairs: replaced idle air control and reprogrammed pcm. on two previous occasions (don't have the paperwork, but will request receipt copy) the car had stalled after driving home from work and picking up child from daycare, when making an attempt to exit subdivision (a left turn, which should have been followed by a right turn, but the car stalled before the right turn). i took the car to a different dealership at the time, but they found no fault on the computer and only attempted to recreate the stall. unable to do so, no repair was made.

I purchased the vehicle used in feb 2006 and it had approximately 17500 miles on it. shortly after purchasing the vehicle, i went on a trip with the family to florida and this is when it first incident occurred. the first time that it happened i didn't really think too much about it. i was pulling into a parking space and the car had cut off. the car rolled to a stop and then i noticed that the car had cut off and i restarted and didn't think too much about it. since then the car has cut off three times with my wife driving the car. this has occurred over the last three months and the last incident was on may 23, 2006 and i was sitting in the passenger seat when it happened with her. the last occurrence was scary because it was when we were making a right hand turn and another vehicle was coming. luckily the vehicle had room to go around but under other circumstances this could have been serious. i called the dealership to make an appointment to have the car looked at because the last thing that i want is for my pregnant wife and kids to be involved in an accident because the car stalled while turning. after reading complaints from this website, i read that in a lot of instances in the other cases that the dealerships could not find anything wrong with the vehicle so i called chrysler customer service to inquire about this on may 24, 2006. i spoke with customer service representative polly and she said her customer service number was hqd. she researched the problem and said that chrysler did not have any record of complaints regarding this problem and referred me to the dealership. she also stated that she could not provide me with any phone numbers to senior management of customer service because that was proprietary. *jb

2005 pacifica touring was leased in july 2005. since then, the upgraded infinity sound system has required repair twice and regularly makes a loud popping sound. the abs warning light came on signaling a failure in the anti-lock brake system march 2006. i scheduled an appointment for march 30, 2006 to repair the abs system and on my way to work, i needed to turn left, put my foot on the brake, and the car suddenly sped up instead of slowing down. a few weeks prior, we slowed down to make another left turn and the vehicle stalled and shut off completely. i had leased the pacifica for 36 months, and last week when the abs system failed and my car sped up while braking, i took it back to the dealership and demanded that they get me out of that vehicle. i was able to terminate my lease and purchase a jeep vehicle (the dealership sells jeep) because after i read dozens of consumer complaints, reviews from nhtsa and consumer affairs about the safety issues of this vehicle, i couldn't, in good faith, put myself or my child in that vehicle ever again. not only would driving the pacifica put our lives at risk, but that of others. i could not live with myself if i knowingly operated a hazardous vehicle and hurt someone as a result. push for a replacement. you'll get one!*jb

Vehicle had been in to chrysler dealer several times during may for the check engine light (emition controll issues) on the day of this incident i had just picked it up from the dealership. it had been repaired due to it leaking oil. the oil leak was due to the technician accidentally tightening the valve cover down on a wire during its last time in for repairs. i had driven about ten miles from the dealership when i pulled into a gas station to get a drink. when i exited the gas station maybe three minutes later i saw my car had flames coming out from under the hood. i was able to put it out using the gas stations portable fire extinguisher but there had been damage done as several parts under the hood had melted. no one was injured thankfully but if i had not stopped for a drink i would have never been able to put the fire out. milage was 5646 the vehicle was not running while parked at the gas station. i was advised that the fire was due to a blower fan module short circiuting.

While driving and coming to a stop once i pressed on the gas to start again the car would make a bucking movement and then proceed to move on as normal. well one day car started to over heat as oil gage raised, so pulled the car over and let it cool down. went to local gas station to pick up coolant and poured it in and then started car to see that it was all gushing out the front end. could not drive it so had it towed to a local garage for repair. come to find out that a front and rear motor mount had broken causing the motor to shift slightly every time i pressed the gas with this motor shifting it went over enough to loosen and undo the radiator hose which caused the car to overheat. the front and rear motor mounts were replaced, but it seems there may be more underlying issues due to the motors movement.

High level of failure of motor mounts in chrysler pacifica. unable to get replacement parts due to 1000's being on back order. started trying to locate and purchase motor mounts in 11/08. paid for the replacement motor mounts at a chrysler dealership in 1/09 and as of 6/09/09 motor mounts are still unavailable. i don't know what the safety ramifications are, other than if the mounts were to fail completely while driving down the highway 65 miles per hours in traffic... while i first became aware of the motor mount issue around 11/08, the motor mounts apparently were damaged before then. *tr

On my 2005 chrysler pacifica, the motor mounts seem to be substandard and require replacement at a higher interval than normal. while this may not seem like a huge issue initially, a failed motor mount is a reason to reject a vehicle inspection in the state of va. shortly after purchasing the car used 2 years ago, i needed to replace a failed motor mount, now, 2 years later and with the car having less than 65,000 miles i am having to replace a motor mount again. the real issue now seems to be that chrysler as a whole is out of stock as there is a national backorder in effect at the moment. the fact that this part is on a national backorder makes me feel as if they are being replaced by many other pacifica owners. research online has shown that the motor mounts fail on the pacifica approximately every 30,000 miles. *tr

I began having a problem about 2 months ago with my abs light coming on. it would come on and turn off randomly. recently the light came on permanently and my brakes began grinding. we took it to the dealer and were told that the abs sensor is bad. not only that, but the motor mounts cracked and must be replaced. my vehicle is only 3 years old, and has 47000 miles on it. after doing some research, i have found that both of these issues are a common problem on this make and model vehicle. the dealer that we purchased it from admitted that this is a problem, but i was not able to find any recall information regarding either problem. i feel that both problems are dangerous, since the brakes did not work properly in my situation. if cracked motor mounts are not taken care of, they could possibly cause additional damage to the engine components. i think that chrysler should be held responsible for fixing these problems at their cost. i've seen many other people complaining that even after they've fixed the problem, they continue to have the same problem. i think both of these items should be considered for recall. *tr

I brought my 2005 pacifica in for the engine light coming on to the dealership where i bought it (ancira). they cleared the memory and gave it back, it immediately came back on when i picked it up so i left it. they did some things to the engine to fix it. the engine began burning oil after ancira dealership serviced it for engine light problems. i brought it to boerne chrysler superstore because i did not appreciate how i was treated at the ancira dealership. the engine was replaced at the boerne chrysler superstore but now leaks oil. i would like chrysler to buy this vehicle back because it has done nothing but cause us problems. i am surprised i was not stranded for it burning oil. i have 2 small children and the thought of it possibly leaving us stranded is frustrating. we purchased a new vehicle with the expectation of not having these serious engine issues. the least chrysler could do is reimburse us the $100 copay because it is under the extended warranty now even though the engine problems were occurring under the beginning full coverage warranty. we have purchased two dodge trucks and this vehicle and all of them have had to be serviced before 40,000 miles. we have lost faith in chrysler/dodge and will no longer consider purchasing one. *tr

2005 chrysler pacifica noticed loud engine tapping after a couple thousand miles after purchase. checked oil and it was about 2.5 quarts low. i had the oil changed, all was fine.. drove another 2000 miles, checked oil and 2 quarts low again. had a dealership look into it and they said they found no leaks. was told 2 quarts in 2000 miles is not normal. they said it would cost me $2000 to tear into the engine and find the problem. i guess i should top off the oil and trade it in. *jb

I am filing this complaint regarding my 2005 pacifica awd. in nov 06, the vehicle stalled couple of times in the middle of the highway and both times, we were very fortunate to avoid an accident. during the same time, we received a recall notice from chrysler for the same problem and promptly took it to the warnock east hanover (nj) dealer (same place where i purchased the vehicle) to fix it. they fixed the stalling recall issue and other minor issues and said that it's drivable now and assured me that it wouldn't happen again. unfortunately, while i was driving today, it stalled again and nearly averted an accident. it's really scary to drive the vehicle any more. the vehicle has only 6000 miles on it as it has been primarily used to drop my daughter in school. now, my wife does not want to drive it again as she is scared to death to drive it. i don't blame her as it has stalled three times so far and we cannot even imagine driving this vehicle again with such a humongous safety issue! right now, the vehicle was towed to the dealer and is sitting at the mercy of the dealership as i type this...*nm

I own a chrysler pacifica 2005. i have had it for almost a year and it has stalled on me 4 times. the first time i was driving on the highway, when it shut off. the wheel locked, radio turned off everything. i had to quickly restart the car to avoid being hit by traffic behind me. the second time i was in a residential neighborhood and it shut while waiting at a red light. i didn't know it shut off until i hit the gas. the third and forth time it has shut off as well while driving in residential neighborhoods this happening this week. all of these times i have had children in the car. i have complained to chrysler and i was told that because there is no recall there is nothing that could be done to the vehicle. i was advised to take it in to the dealership so that they could look it over. the dealership said that because they can not recreate the problem, they could not fix anything. i explained to them that i it wasn't something i could re-produce. it is something that happens from time to time with no warning. again they told me as well there was nothing that could be done. *nm

Last sept my wife and i purchased a slightly used 05 pacifica. one week later my wife experienced the first stall while turning into a parking lot. i contacted the dealer and found that there are thousands of similar complaints and chrysler would have a solution by dec 05. we have since had around 7 stalling issues with this model, usually turning at low speed or backing up. after several calls to chrysler and the dealership, we still have no answers. the dealer is trying to wash their hands of the problem and continues to direct me to the manufacturer. chrysler will not admit to knowing the problem exists. i have a pregnant wife and a five year old riding in this vehicle and i'm concerned that this stalling problem will occur while driving in traffic and could potentially be harmful to my family. *nm

Typical driving pattern/habits, yet when running the 2005 pacifica awd model touring edition on the freeway, within 2 miles at 65 mph, the engine/transmission would shudder, then the engine would partially increase rpm's by 200+ and decrease by 200+ rpm, then act as if the fuel was cut off. i selected the 3 and 4 gears with the shifter to see if it was the transmission, but no difference between those two gears as to the amplification of the problem. the shuddering was the same intensity. i had to put my foot on the accelerator pedal to keep the engine running. after pulling off of the freeway and driving back to my home, the engine stalled/stopped at an intersection doing the same 200+/ 200- rpm business. i have taken the vehicle in for this particular problem, where the technicians could not figure out the situation. in discussions with chrysler(after 1.5 weeks of having the vehicle!!!!), the service manager determined with chrysler that an injector replacement and an injector cleaning was due for this engine. the wagon has 16,000 miles on it. i believe injectors last well up into the 100,000 mile or 1700 hours of engine time, not 266 hours. at this time the unit is still in the shop for a total of two weeks time. *jb

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING - ENGINE - GASOLINE

The engine light on the dashboard lit up one day. shortly thereafter, i experienced a very rough idle. it did not stall however, but continued to idle and run very roughly. upon examination, the dealers service department determined that the tsb #09-010-06 had described the issue and it's recommended fix was applied. that being to replace the valve spring retainer locks, combustion clean, and replace and test the map sensor. this tsb fix had the adverse effect of causing the engine to surge rather abruptly when starting cold, and applying light pressure on the accelerator. it's more noticeable when backing out of a parking space and having the wheel turned at the same time. it seems that having the steering wheel turned presents an additional load on the engine that the computer senses as a need for additional engine speed. this surging also happens when pulling forward into a parking space with the wheels sharply turned as well. three subsequent visits to the dealer yielded different answers without being able to fix it. on one visit, the service director, called to tell me that he had been in contact with chrysler engineers in michigan about the issue and would like to try a couple of things. namely to check the fuel pressure, adaptive memory, and map sensor. after a test drive he conceded that the problem remained, but not to the degree that i was complaining about. he offered no other alternative fixes, but said that he would remain in contact with the chrysler engineering website that issues tsb's etc. i guess that is supposed to satisfy me as he states that he has done everything he could. as this is unacceptable to me, i felt prompted to file a complaint on the website as i feel that the surging problem is a definite safety issue that needs to be addressed. my next step is the write chrysler directly per their warranty information booklet. *tr

We purchased a used chrysler pacifica on 1/24/06 in savannah, ga w/approximately 20k miles on it. approximately 1 month later, it stalled while making a u-turn. took to the dealership and was told that it was perhaps a fluke because no message light came on to help determine the issue. it would occasionally feel like it was going to stall or rev itself but it went a few months with some abs wheel sensor issues but no stalling. since july 25th 2006 it has stalled or attempted to stall on numerous occasions. on thursday 8/10/06. it stalled 2 times and attempted to stall many more. the fuel gauge then dropped from @ 1/2 a tank to e and the message center said that the tank only had 32 miles to empty. i called the dealership and was told to bring it in asap. i fueled up and it only took 12 gallons to fill up. it was then dropped at the dealership. the dealership kept the car for 5 days and was unable to duplicate the failure. a few days later the same thing happened and the car went back again. the dealership told me to keep the car fueled above 1/2 tank and then bring it in on 8/21/06 with a 1/2 tank or less of fuel. i brought it in at a 1/2 on the mark. once more, the dealership was unable to duplicate the error. they believe they know what the issue is but can't fix it until they can get a computer read or or personally duplicate the error. i got the car back on wednesday 8/23/06 and again on the evening of fri, 8/25/06 the gas gauge plummeted to e with plenty of fuel in the tank and attempted to stall. today, 8/27/06 the car stalled twice, once in the middle of a right hand turn and once while making a left hand turn. if i gas up, i don't have a problem until there is less than a solid 1/2 tank of fuel in the car. i need this car and i am scared to death to drive it anywhere without more than a 1/2 tank. i asked to dealership to drain gas if need to be replicate the issue but they are apparently unable to do this. *jb

On the chrysler pacifica 2005 model, when the gas is below half a tank, when stopping or making turns the engine will stall. this is very hazardous as when the engine stops there is no power steering or power brakes. i was within inches of hitting another car. i took the car to the dealership and this is a known problem, but no solution. i believe this is a very dangerous problem and needs to be fixed as the number of accidents this can lead to is large, especially for smaller people that may not be able to muscle the steering when the car stalls. please get chrysler to do something about this as soon as possible as it's not safe to drive my new expensive car until this is taken care of. *jb

I have owned a 2005 chrysler pacifica for seven months. over that period, i have documented a total 6 stalling events. the common trigger seems to be deceleration while turning or slightly turning either left or right. the speeds during the stalling events have twice occurred at highway speeds, and four times while decelerating from speeds of 30 - 45 to near 0. on one occasion, while at 45 - 50 mph and changing lanes to the right, the vehicle stalled affecting the steerability and the car ran off the road striking a hard object that caused the front tire to blow out and destruction of the front rim and bending the rear rim. a police officer was dispatched to the scene of this incident. the dealer has been consulted twice now. the first visit to the dealer was uneventful after a thorough checkover, ending with a statemenat that there was no record of similar events and thus nothing could be done. the second visit, after the incident mentioned above, the dealer put near 300 miles on the vehicle without duplication and, again, stating that there is no such history of similar events. not to mention, the dealer put the 300 miles on the donut tire (because of the damage to the tires and rims). the dealer refused to replace the damaged rims and tires and said there was nothing that they could or would do. when noting that my confidence in the vehicle had been shatterred and my concern for my life was the real issue, they said there was nothing they could do. after all this, the dealer failed to notify us of the 2004 recall for the same type of stalling event.

We purchased a used 2005 pacifica in 2009. it has gone through 3 catalytic converters, 6 oxygen sensors and the dealership says it needs to be done again. the gas pedal sticks requiring one to stomp on it to get it to go down sometimes. big safety concern. it has lost it's power steering and acted like it was going to die on four occassions when turning shortly after being started. we owe twice what this car is worth and have no idea what we are going to do. it goes through oil like mad too. the dealership says that's normal. a quart every other week is not normal. the tailpipe is black. the dealership says they don't know what to do unless they continue replacing the 1000 dollar parts. there has been no word from chrysler so far. i spoke to a friend of the family who teaches car repair and he said there is obviously a serious engine problem.

I purchased my car in 2008 and the dealer (sheehy ford) won't even take it back. the engine light stays on and it won't pass inspection. i had to replace the obd connector and it still wouldn't pass inspection. took it back to the inspection station and it failed because of the oxygen sensor, replaced that and took it back for the 3rd time and it failed again because the machine read: monitors not ready. i'm starting to think that the power train and the engine are faulty on my vehicle. sheehy knew they sold me a lemon, i've tried to have them resolve this issue numerous times and nothing. i want them to either fix the problem or give me another car. i reported them to the bbb as well and they never responded to bbb on my complaint. that looks so suspect in my eyes.
