A week ago i smelled an awful burning smell coming from my 2005 chrysler pacifica. i took it to the mechanic for investigation and repairs needed. the car needed an alternator, water pump and serpentine belt. while they were fixing this problem i told them to investigate the rattling noise coming from the frontend. they found that the engine cradle was rusting away. the garage suggested that i contact chrysler as this is a known problem with pacificas but it has not been recalled. i did my research and found that there are extended warranties being offered for this issue. i called chrysler directly and they told me because i was the second owner of the vehicle and they didn't know how the vehicle was treated and because of the mileage, they would not assist me in any way. keep in mind i am a student and now have a car that is unsafe and chrysler could care less!! the fight does not end here. please contact me if you are having the same problem and what your outcome has been.

Took 2005 pacifica to our mechanic to check a noise in the front suspension components and was informed that the frame cross-member was severely perforated by rust and that the vehicle was unsafe to drive due to flexing. this cross member supports the engine, transmission and front suspension components. on-line research shows a number of similar complaints for the 2004 and 2005 model years. mechanic called a local chrysler dealer and was told that a recall (#13-001-12) was issued by chrysler but that our vehicle did not fall within the specified date range. took photos of the damage and are awaiting repair estimates. will contact the manufacturer however others report that the manufacturer has refused to fix this failure occurring in vehicles beyond the recall dates. *tr

My very well kept 2005 pacifica failed inspection at my local mechanic due to a completely rotted cross member frame. substantial rotting in multiple spots. many holes. took car to chrysler dealer and they inspected car and told me they had never seen a worse frame. quoted me in writing, $5779.98 to repair!!! opened a case with chrysler to find out if they would do anything for me. yea right. they even went as far as to say the dealer said they only gave me a parts list, not a quote. liars! said it was normal wear and tear in new york. cars built from 2/23/04-3/31/04 were given an extension to 150,000 miles warranty for such problem. chrysler knows about this problem and are not taking responsibility for it. needs to be a recall! i am going to repair with used cross member for 1500.00 and i'm selling it afterwards. do not want any part of chrysler again! *tr

A letter was sent to some 2004-2005 chrysler pacifica owners that the front engine cradle and suspension mount frame warranty was being extended to 15 years or 150,000 miles to owners in states that use road salt because off corrosion problems. they go on to carelessly explain that if your are not experiencing vibration and shaking you need to do nothing-- by the time its that bad its almost to late! mine was not shaking but i had my pacifica inspected any way and found rust holes in front frame, one was the size of my fist and on the other side may be three or four fingers wide. i stopped driving the vehicle immediately and called the phone # listed on the notification letter twice, both times they denied a problem because it was not listed as a recall on their web site and besides my vehicle did not fall into the vin block ?? there are cases listed on the internet where state dmv inspection stations have failed these vehicles because they were unsafe to drive because of frame corrosion. i am having the engine cradle replaced at my expense. how can a manufacturer have such a flippant attitude about a known serious safety issue? does this fall under a hidden warranty or recall.

Took the car to local chrysler dealer (bournival chrysler jeep, york, me) for annual inspection. was told car could not be inspected because the front cross member had rusted through in spots.(car had been inspected at the same facility a year ago and no problem was found) the problem was confirmed by an independent mechanic. car has 91,500 miles. i have read of chrysler offering a 10-year, 100,000 warranty on this problem but neither the service manager nor nhtsa could confirm. there are dozens of instances of this problem, both in the united states and canada listed on edmunds (http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f0ec024/258). this is a dangerous situation that should be cleared up by chrysler.

I own a 2005 chrysler pacifica that was bought brand new in october 2004. in october 2009, i was driving home during afternoon rush hour. i noticed my car smoking and attempted just to make it home. about 20 minutes later, my car began to hesitate and turned off once or twice when i stopped at stop lights. eventually, the car shut down completely on a major thoroughfare and would not restart. after being towed to the nearest dealership, i discovered that the radiator hose had been blown off and a hole basically ripped in the coolant jug as a result. repair cost: $564.00. prior to releasing the vehicle, the service technicians noticed how loudly and roughly the car was running and did further tests, to discover that the motor mounts are broken and in need of repair, which caused the problem that i paid nearly $600 to fix. projected cost: an additional $900. that's a total of $1500 for a four-year-old car!!! i've searched and have seen numerous reports of repeated motor mount breaks and problems. called chrysler who basically is turning a blind eye to the numerous complaints. *tr

I purchased a 2005 pacifica touring with awd in the summer of 2006. three times my car has had difficulties when there was a dusting of snow blowing over the road. the 1st incident was on jan. 24 2007, the front end of my vehicle started to lose control and finally i went into a spin. i was in the left lane of a 2 lane road heading south. my car spun in front of the vehicle in the right lane, through the ditch, and finally ended up in the trees on the other side of the ditch. i suffered only minor injuries-neck sprain, but i took out a highway sign and a tree. damages to my car totaled over $11,000, i got it back from the body shop 1 month after the accident. the 2nd time i was by myself, the 3rd time i had my 1 year old daughter in the back seat, both times i wasn't driving fast, the second time it kept swaying even after slowing down to 30 mph. this has caused me a lot of concern so my husband started having to drive me to work during the winter months. now we are planning to sell the pacifica because of the poor gas mileage. i don't feel comfortable selling this vehicle without reassurance that there's nothing wrong with it. recently the front end has started to make noise every once in a while also. it makes a low thudding sound that makes my ears feel like they're going to pop. my husband tried putting the car in neutral and turning the ignition off, but it still kept making the noise. it first started about 2 months ago and i've heard it three times, we've also had problems with the blinkers failing to turn off.

My problems began on 10/03/05 @ 2,826 miles. since that time there have been a litany of problems through eighteen months. wheel sensors -6 were replaced. front end noise like a rubbing sound. returned to dealer several times. accelerator sticking. returned to dealer several times each time they lubricated the linkage but after two weeks the problem continued. at this point nothing else was done concerning the accelerator. next, problem a defective axle, replaced. power module replaced. doors would not lock and car would not start after installation of the power module. the car had to be towed to the dealer. it was repaired. parking brake assembly fell apart in the rear brakes as i was driving down the highway. parking brake assembly replaced by the dealer. front end vibration again brought to dealers attention. another wheel sensor replaced. on 5/24/07 brought my pacifica back to the dealer concerning the front end noise. they replaced the power steering pump on 5/30/07. on 6/04/07 returned to the dealer noise in front end still there. also, the accelerator still sticks. concerning the front end noise, they said that a power steering line was leaking and they repaired it. the accelerator butterfly was finally replaced after over a year of complaints. on 6/08/07 i returned the car because of the same noise in the front end every time you turn left or right. at this point they decided to replace the steering rack. i picked up the car on 6/14/07 the vibration rubbing noise was still there. i returned to the dealer on 6/15/07. the service manager told me that they could not fix the car and to take the car home and wait for chrysler to call. it has now been 6 weeks and they have not called. i have called the dealer several times for up dates , they say that they do not have any information. chrysler's letter, dated 6/26/07 states, we consider this matter closed, even though the car has still not been repaired. *tr

Have a clunking/popping noise in the front end when going over small bumps or holes. have taken it to a mechanic and he couldn't visibly find the cause. checked on the internet for anyone else with this problem and found that many people have similiar problems with mutiple issues effecting the front suspension.

Today i took my 2005 chrysler pacifica into the shop for new tires, i was told they could not do an alignment because the tie rods looked bad and to take it to the dealer, i did. i then found out from my local dealer that unfortunately that is all they see is chrysler pacificas...my car has less than 45k miles and i have been told that the entire front end suspension is worthless and right now i have bad gear boxes, a broken engine mount, and can count on having front axel problems as well. the dealer also had a 2004 brought in today and that car and mine were raised up and the repair men showed me and everyone else around the identical problems on both cars. *tr

2005 chrysler pacifica - constant clicking noise, sounds like stones rubbing on pavement when driving. not just in turns but anytime. i thought it was the stones in the tires - after cleaning the tires the sound persisted. apparently chrysler has no fix for this? i don't even know how safe my car is right now. *nm

Check engine light at approximately 40,000 miles. the check light has come on the vehicle indicating cylinder three misfired. i have taken vehicle to the shop the first time and had the coil replaced. the same light came on with the same warning. this time the spark plugs were replaced, the injections cleaned out, the throttle body cleaned out. i just got it back yesterday and i feel confident that i will have the same thing over the next few days. when this happens, the vehicle idles rough and the car has no power. this vehicle has been maintained higher than the standards call for in the manual. looks like chrysler is good for about 40,000 miles, then be prepared to spend some money. i plan to trade the vehicle for a toyota, though i had supported american made vehicles in the past, with a product like this, you can't afford to. the total cost thus far has been $600.00. it appears that chrsyler knows the problem exists because of the bulletins, yet they will not recall the car ,and do what is right for the consumers. people can't afford to pay for a vehicle and repair it at the same time with so few miles. the pacifica is a great riding car ,and i otherwise thoroughly enjoyed it. *ak
