AQ10001CHRYSLER GROUP LLC11/18/2010Fleet Vehicle Recall Completion Audit
The agency, particularly in recent months, has been informed of incidents involving allegations of personal injury and death claimed to have been caused by safety defects and failures to conform to minimum federal motor vehicle safety standards (fmvss) on rental car vehicles for which a safety recall to remedy the safety defect or noncompliance had allegedly not been performed prior to the rental car company's lease of the vehicle.nhtsa understands that there is presently a petition before the federal trade commission (ftc) seeking to prohibit at least one rental car company from renting vehicles on which safety recall campaign remedies remain outstanding.the purpose of this audit query (aq) is to investigate recall remedy completion by rental car companies on the above-listed safety recall campaigns.these campaigns were chosen due to their inclusion of vehicles used in the rental market.this information is expected to provide the agency an indication of how completely and how quickly rental car fleets, in general or individually, perform necessary recall-related repairs or other remedies on the vehicles owned and then leased for use on the roadways.this aq is opened.

Driving to work at 5:30 am, the gas pedal began to stick and the car was slowing down on the highway, so to keep up with traffic, i depressed it harder to make the car go at least 65, it went all the way down freely as if it had no stopping point but the car continued to slow. all the time the engine was racing about as fast as my heart and mind. scared and praying not to injure anyone, i tried again and again, and the pedal caught it self and began to react normally for a about 30 seconds with it stuck again and the car's engine began a sound of rushing and the car began to coast. i proceeded off the highway coasting and the pedal caught again and i was able to pull in to work. i am deathly afraid to drive my car...

I have been made aware of severe corosion and rust of the frame and cross member of this vehicle. it has been properly maintained and serviced. on researching this problem on the internet. it appears that this is not an isolated incident but a common problem for pacifica. chrysler has service bulletins advising service personal to look for this problem. there has not been a recall and as a result they will not assist in the repair of this vehicle. i feel that it is a product flaw and should be addressed by chrysler. much like the rusting problem with the toyota tundra trucks. this vehicle was in ma from 2005 to 2011 and now is in fl.

Working on the car notice the subframe is rusted thru on ths passenger side. there are many issue logged in on the internet with this particualer defect. it is my understanding there is a recall for certain vins. my vehicle was built on aug 20, 2004. after contacting chrylser they say the car is covered under a extended warranty. my poroblem is if i hadn't looked under the car this issue may have led to a catastrophic failure

Took 2005 pacifica to our mechanic to check a noise in the front suspension components and was informed that the frame cross-member was severely perforated by rust and that the vehicle was unsafe to drive due to flexing. this cross member supports the engine, transmission and front suspension components. on-line research shows a number of similar complaints for the 2004 and 2005 model years. mechanic called a local chrysler dealer and was told that a recall (#13-001-12) was issued by chrysler but that our vehicle did not fall within the specified date range. took photos of the damage and are awaiting repair estimates. will contact the manufacturer however others report that the manufacturer has refused to fix this failure occurring in vehicles beyond the recall dates.

Multiple issues with this car! i will start with the problems that didn't almost kill myself and my children. the abs light would stay on and the dealer had no resolution. the car would stall while turning. i replaced the battery five times in four years. while idling in the driveway the drivers seat reclined by itself, would not respond to the controls and started smoking! the dealer claims they could not diagnose the problem! lastly, while driving my sons to school, the car was handling poorly and because it was dark and raining, initially i believed that it was wet road conditions. to maintain control of the car, i was travelling in the slow lane and my speed was approx. 30 mph. upon approaching the top of a small hill, the steering began to vibrate violently, at this time i believed that the car had a flat tire and that was what had caused the poor handling while driving. i immediately hit the button for my hazard lights and began to try to ease into the emergency lane and attempt to stop the car. it was instantly apparent that the car brakes and power steering were not working, which left me struggling at 30 mph and accelerating because of the i was now on the downward side of the hill, to try to maintain control of the car! i was able to keep the car from completely veering to the right and ultimately hit a 5 inch concrete curb that is a turn out for the corner gas station. upon hitting the curb the car then sprang to the left back into the highway lane. miraculously, no other vehicles were travelling in that lane at that moment! once, we were out of the car, i learned that the car did not have a flat tire but a part of the front end had broken and caused the passenger front tire to collapse into the wheel well...unbelievable! i believe this to be a defect of the car, in addition to he multitude of other defects of this car!!

My very well kept 2005 pacifica failed inspection at my local mechanic due to a completely rotted cross member frame. substantial rotting in multiple spots. many holes. took car to chrysler dealer and they inspected car and told me they had never seen a worse frame. quoted me in writing, $5779.98 to repair!!! opened a case with chrysler to find out if they would do anything for me. yea right. they even went as far as to say the dealer said they only gave me a parts list, not a quote. liars! said it was normal wear and tear in new york. cars built from 2/23/04-3/31/04 were given an extension to 150,000 miles warranty for such problem. chrysler knows about this problem and are not taking responsibility for it. needs to be a recall! i am going to repair with used cross member for 1500.00 and i'm selling it afterwards. do not want any part of chrysler again!

I was traveling with my children down a state highway when i noticed that my miles to next service light was saying my next service was due in 4555 miles. how odd, i thought, but didn't have time to ponder it further as i was going around at curve at 45 miles per hour with cars both behind me and oncoming, when i realized that my steering had inexplicably given out. i attempted to brake, only to realize that my brakes, too, had malfunctioned and weren't working. i threw on my flashers and did everything in my power to get that car safely to a halt at the side of road. it was only due to my efforts that my children and i were able to safely evacuate the vehicle before more dire consequences occurred, because the chrysler pacifica was completely dead. thankfully, a kind passerby helped me push the car off the road before someone hit it, and i called aaa for a tow. i still don't know what caused this potentially lethal malfunction, but i had adequate fuel in the car and had had the oil changed less than two weeks prior so it wasn't simple owner neglect. no, it was a chrysler malfunction that could have caused my children and i our lives today.

Vehicle occasionally stalls when making a left turn. a popping sound occurs when turning to the left, the sound seems to be coming from the left tire hub. also there is a clicking sound when the transmission shifts gears. please send me any information regarding recalls for these problems,as i am a single mother who transports small children daily in this vehicle, with limited resources.

Driving my vehicle in town taking my kids to school and with no warning the car just stopped. felt like we hit a wall. luckily me and my children were not hurt except for some seat belt bruising. while looking around online i found there was a recall on the 2005 pacificas for this same problem. i called chrysler to tell them i want it fixed and they claim my vehicle is not part of the recall and wouldn't help me. i asked if maybe it should have been a bigger recall than they thought and maybe they made a mistake so could they please look at it and make sure the part that was recalled wasn't the same problem i'm having. they wouldn't assist me in any way. this is unacceptable and unsafe for me and my children.

May 2011 notice paint has blistered on passenger side rear door as well as passenger side rear quarter panel. chrysler said out of warranty, no help.

Front sub-frame found significantly rusted, complete perforation on the passenger side for almost 6 inches, several holes on the drivers side. vehicle will not pass pa state safety inspection. chrysler says nothing they can do because of mileage, dealer says it is not their fault as it is a factory defect. left with an unsafe, illegal vehicle after only 2 car payments.

A letter was sent to some 2004-2005 chrysler pacifica owners that the front engine cradle and suspension mount frame warranty was being extended to 15 years or 150,000 miles to owners in states that use road salt because off corrosion problems. they go on to carelessly explain that if your are not experiencing vibration and shaking you need to do nothing-- by the time its that bad its almost to late! mine was not shaking but i had my pacifica inspected any way and found rust holes in front frame, one was the size of my fist and on the other side may be three or four fingers wide. i stopped driving the vehicle immediately and called the phone # listed on the notification letter twice, both times they denied a problem because it was not listed as a recall on their web site and besides my vehicle did not fall into the vin block ?? there are cases listed on the internet where state dmv inspection stations have failed these vehicles because they were unsafe to drive because of frame corrosion. i am having the engine cradle replaced at my expense. how can a manufacturer have such a flippant attitude about a known serious safety issue? does this fall under a hidden warranty or recall.

Abs light on my 2005 chrysler pacifica keeps coming on and going off. have read on the internet that this is a major problem with the pacifica's. usually has something to do with wheel sensors or speed sensors. if all these vehicles are having the same problem there should be a chrysler recall to fix this problem.

My 2005 chrysler pacifica started running terrible at low speeds. it does not run smoothly, instead it kind of chugs along almost like it is missing or like i got a bad tank of gas. i have been through several tanks of gas adding fuel cleaner to it and it doesn't help. i have taken it in to the local chrysler dealership twice and they can not recreate the problem. it runs fine on the highway but at 35 mph in town i feel it chug along. very frustrating that chrysler can not figure out what is happening with it. they hooked it up to the machine and got nothing back. they replaced spark plugs and did a fuel injection flush and also service the transmission and the problem is still happening.

Purchased used 2005 chrysler pacifica aug 2010 and abs light has been coming on intermittently since that time but goes off when the engine is turned off. brake pads replaced jan 2011. march 2011 brakes started going all the way to the floor. have had them checked by two different mechanics and they are unable to diagnose the problem with the abs light unless the light is on when they are looking it over. my brakes going to the floor happens at least 4 to 5 times a week. i am trying to be very cautious in driving but am still very concerned that i may be involved in an accident with my brakes failing me.

My crhysler pacifica 2005, has a problem with the gas pedal. it is sticking when i want to accelerate. i have to push it really hard to unstick the pedal.
03/03/201157318
The accelerator pedal sticks when the vehicle is in reverse. the pedal has to be pushed down with excessive force in order for it to release, causing a forceful reaction.

My 2005 chrysler pacifica has broken motor mounts and it seems that it is very common in this vehicle, i wonder why nothing has been done to remedy this wide spread problem that chrysler should be held accountable for.

I have a 2005 chrysler pacifica with 49,500 miles, manufacured in june 2005. on three (3) occasions while in a low speed left hand turn the car has stalled without warning. the first occasion was 2 months ago, the subsequent stalls occurred over the past two (2) weeks. upon coming to a stop and placing the car in park the engine restarts without any problem.

My wife was driving on a busy road in salt lake today on a downhill straightaway and our 2005 chrysler pacifica completely stalled. all electronics turned off. all power steering and brakes turned off. she had to push the brakes very hard to get the vehicle to a safe stop and coast to the side of the road. after a brief rest, she was finally able to restart the car and continue her journey, but i no longer feel safe with my wife and children in this car. i called chrysler and they said there are no warnings or recalls for my vehicle.

I purchased a 2005 chrysler pacifica in june of 08. in september i brought the car to a local shop because i noticed the car was not performing well sluggish, clunking noises ect... diagnosis - replace motor and tranny mounts 9/23/2009. in june of 2010 car is in the shop because i hear a clunking everytime i accelerate from a dead stop. diagnosis-replace motor mounts. it is the end of august and i'm hearing the clunking noise, so i went to the dealer and they are telling me all the motor and tranny mounts are broken. i have read hundreds of postings that pacifica owners are having with engine mounts. please can someone do something about this too common problem with pacificas. chrysler knows there is problem because they cannot keep enough of them in stock

Abs seems to come on but brakes don't hold sometimes. warnimg light comes on for brakes.seems to slide right through an intersection and wont stop vehicle.

Brake pedal fell away from my foot and abs light came on while braking at highway speeds. light went off, but came on again later. days later, more brake failures that made stopping difficult.

I have 2005 chrysler pacifica. on a routine oil change, the midas service clerk calls me to tell me that all 3 of my motor mounts are broken. the problem is, that i had them all replaced about 1.5 years ago. i come to find out that this is a common problem for these vehicles when i checked online. please press chrysler into fixing this issue. a simple google search for chrysler pacifica motor mounts brings up hundreds of individuals complaining of this same issue.
03/13/201067163
The abs system failure almost resulted in a tbone sliding through an intersection, unable to stop in nov and in march coming down a slight incline and the abs light came on and could not get stopped resulting in missing a pedestrian by 3 inches and having to hit a snow bank. then the abs light kept coming on at various times, hard to get stopped in town when it comes on.

When shifting from park to drive or reverse the gas pedal is pressed and appears to stick . when pressed with more force the automobile lurches quickly either forward or backward depending on which gear has been selected. this is occurring on a daily basis. i will be making an appointment with the dealer. no injuries or damage have occurred as of yet, but the potential is there.

2005 chrysler pacifica throttle requires excessive force to depress causing the vehicle to lurch forward when the throttle finally moves. we reported the issue to our dealer approximately 18 months ago. they seemed to have prior knowledge of the issue and repaired it while the vehicle was in for repairs after striking a dog (unreleated to the defect). now the issue has returned and when my wife called to schedule service to have the issue repaired again the dealership wouldn't schedule a time to repair the defect and actually acted as if they weren't aware of the issue and would need several hours to troubleshoot the issue prior to repairing it. i researched the issue online and evidently this is an issue with the throttle body assembly which typically takes an hour of labor time to treat the symptom which eventually returns. it also seems to be a common issue with the pacifica. the issue with our vehicle is becomming serious and now that our local dealership in lugoff, sc seems to have no desire to help us i'm not sure where to take it for repair.
