In a november 8, 2006 letter, daimlerchrysler corporation (dcc) submitted a defect information report to nhtsa concerning two separate defect conditions that could result in engine stall while driving in model year (my) 2005-2006 chrysler pacifica vehicles (nhtsa recall no. 06v-432).my 2005 vehicles built in august and september of 2004 are being recalled to correct a defect in the secondary fuel pump modules, which may have an improper press fitting on the inlet that can become dislodged and shut-off fuel flow.all my 2005-2006 vehicles built between july 8, 2004 and november 11, 2005 are being recalled to correct a powertrain control module (pcm) software issue with the evaporative emissions system which can also cause stalling.for both conditions, engine stall incidents tend to occur during left turns. there were 17,375 vehicles built during august and september 2004 that were affected by both the fuel pump module and pcm software conditions.there were 30 voqs submitted to odi, 58 consumer complaints to dcc and 829 field reports relating to vehicles produced during this period.while these are mostly related to the fuel pump condition, some may have been caused by the software fault.the resulting stall while driving failure rate for this period is 5,278 incidents per 100,000 vehicles.there were two crashes alleged to have resulted from these incidents.there were 1,021 warranty claims for fuel pump module replacement that appear related to engine stall (5.9% claim rate). the population for the remaining vehicles included in 06v-432 (i.e., those only affected by the software condition) is 114,523.there were 97 voqs, 124 consumer complaints to dcc and 454 dcc field reports relating to these vehicles.the resulting stall while driving failure rate is 589 per 100,000 vehicles.there were seven crashes alleged to have resulted from these incidents.there were 3,211 warranty claims for pcm reflash that appear related to engine stall in the total population of 131,898 vehicles (2.4% claim rate). all calculations are based on unique vins (multiple/repeat failures not included in these calculations) with no duplication across categories.dcc's recall will reprogram the pcm software and replace the fuel pump modules in all affected vehicles.this engineering analysis has been closed.

On february 27, 2006 rq06-002 was opened in response to 60 complaints of engine stall, mostly during left-hand turns, in model year (my) 2004 to 2006 chrysler pacifica vehicles that were outside the scope of recall 04v-113.in march 2004, daimlerchrysler initiated recall 04v-113 on 34,561 my 2004 pacifica vehicles to correct a condition that could result in engine stall while making a left-hand turn after a cold-start.during rq06-002 it was determined that recall 04v-113 did correct the specific cause of the engine stalling condition for that specific population.however, two other conditions were identified that could also cause engine stalling during turning maneuvers:(1) an issue with misbuilt fuel pumps that primarily affected about 17,000 my 2005 pacifica vehicles built during august and september 2004; and (2) a software condition affecting vapor purge in about 131,000 my 2005-06 pacifica vehicles built from july 2004 through november 2005. an engineering analysis, ea06-013, has been opened to further examine the scope, frequency and safety consequences associated with each of these conditions in the subject vehicles.

I have previously reported a problem with the 2005 chrysler pacifica stalling when turning. the problem has progressively worsened. this month alone, (december 2011) the car has stalled 5 times. i am afraid to drive the car for fear that i will crash when it stalls. there are so many chrysler pacifica owners that are reporting the same problem. along with the stalling issue, the gas pedal sticks and needs to be pushed rather hard. a third problem i have encountered this year is the headlamps burning out. i have replaced the front left headlamp three this year. i am familiar with the handling instructions for headlamps. i am greatly distressed by these problems, especially the stalling. i have children that i drive around in this car. please do something about chrysler's failure to fix this problem.

Gas pedal sticks when accelerating and doesn't release when foot is removed causing unwanted acceleration. pressing on brake does not help. only way to get pedal to unstick is to hit it forceably with your foot sometimes several times before it will release. floor mat has been removed and it didn't help situation. gas pedal sticking and causing unwanted acceleration started happening every once and awhile here and there but has increased in frequency and is now happening everytime i drive the vehicle. i am concerned for my and my childrens safety as it has already caused a minor accident when i rear ended another driver because the car continued to accelerate after i removed my foot from gas pedal, but afraid it will cause a more serious accident in the future.

This is an old story. 2005 chlysler pasifica. i adjusted (move forward) accel and brake pedal position by electric position adjustment system. then i went to a highway (i94, mi), my car did not speed at all. very slow. so, i could not follow the flow of other vehicle, i was almost be crashed. i immediately quit from the highway and checked the pedals. the reason of the issue was poor stroke of the pedals. in case of pasifica, when we move the pedals forward more than middle position, moving range of the accel pedal was reduced less than half because the pedal hit on the floor. also, this problem causes auto cruise system problem. because the pedal can not move more than half of its range, the system can not pull the pedal correctly. then the vacuum hose drops out from the line. my vehicle suddenly slow down when the problem occured. i went to chlysler service center and they reconnect the vacuum hose again. i am sure this is a design error and should be improved immediately. maybe recall.

I own a 2005 chrysler pacifica. i purchased the vehicle new in 2006. the accelerator on the vehicle sticks forcing me to apply a great deal of pressure to make it go. i have been told that this is the result of the accumulation of gunk in the throttle and that this is a common problem with the pacifica. i believe this poses a safety issue for me and my family along with other motorists. this is clearly a manufacturers defect since it is so common place in the pacificas. i would like to ask your agency's help in making chrysler accountable to fix this defect before someone gets killed. *tr

This is the second time in approximately two years that i've had to have the same front speed sensor on my 2005 pacifica replaced. on september 13, 2007, the front sensor was replaced. it was still under warranty at this time at 33,000 miles. we were told by the technician that it was defective. yet, there was no recall issued for the vehicles affected by this. fast forward two years, my car has over 50k miles, is no longer under warranty, and the same sensor has gone off. now, it is a 316.00 job. the part only costs 48.99 through pep boys, so the dealership (jones junction in bel air, md) is robbing me for 268.00 in labor on a service that takes all of 15 minutes to take the wheel on and off. please investigate this travesty of justice. i have been on the internet and it seems this is a common problem with my year, make, and model, and should be addressed by chrysler. *tr

I was making a 800 mile trip in my 2005 chrysler pacifica and noticed that the throttle was starting to stick when my cruise control was disengaged. the only way to fix it was to stomp on the gas pedal. i pulled over to see if there was something stuck around the pedal or even the throttle cable but couldn't find anything. the throttle only stuck when the tac was at around 2700 to 3000 rpms. when i made it to my destination i got on the internet to see if there was anything posted about this problem. to my surprise there were quite a few and some of them within the same mileage and or conditions. most of them took there car to the dealer who either charged them for a new throttle body or pedal assembly or even the throttle cable. i just went out and looked at mine and discovered that a hose that came from the cars air intake was rubbing against the throttle spring and cables. i loosely zip tied the hose to the alternators mounting bracket and haven't had another problem. but the hose was being cut by the cable. i caught mine before it was to bad. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact was involved in two crashes. in the first crash, the contact struck a deer and the air bags failed to deploy. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for repair, but the more it was repaired, the more failures were found. in the second crash, the vehicle automatically accelerated uphill at a high rate of speed and spun out. the vehicle flipped over repeatedly and landed upside down, nearly killing the contact. the vehicle was destroyed. a police report was filed. after the crashes, she received a safety recall notice for the fuel pump module or program pcm. the speed, recall number, and mileages were unknown.

We have a 2005 chrysler pacifica. that keeps cutting off. the first time it happen i thought well maybe it was something i did. the second time was when i was turning onto a 2 lane road come home late. the car just turned completely off. no warning at all. thankfully the car swerved and missed me and my kids. i then took it toallen samuel's alliance. i told them what was happening and also told them my left light keeps having a short in it. and at times cuts off. the dealer called me back and advised that the light had a defect to it and that for the engine failure it was due to my throttle needing to be cleaned. that was not covered under warranty and had to pay $300 to get that cleaned. i then was called back several hours later and was told that the throttle had been clean but it they test drove it and it seemed like something else was going on. they asked if i would let them keep it until the morning so that they can have there tech look at it again in the morning. i said okay although at this point it was going on the 4th day with out having a replacement vehicle. i was called the next day and was told it was the rear motor mount that need to be replaced. and that was covered however i need to pay my deductible. we went ahead and had them fix the problem . this was at the end of july. it is now september and my 2005 chrysler pacifica is in the shop again .because as i was driving it staled on me again... took it back to the shop and on my way there it staled again. all of sudden my 2005 chrysler pacifica stared making this loud noise when i would accelerated and or turn left........ when we got to the dealer they advise again that now another motor mount has broke... my car has been there a week. and i have not received a loaner car because the warranty company is saying that they will not replace it my 2005 chrysler only has 39,926 ....and the dealership is saying that they will help us out with payment plans the repair is 1,100. *jb

I own a 2005 chrysler pacifica with a sticky accelerator pedal. we took it to the dealer during the summer 2008 and we were told the throttle cable in the accelerator had carbon build up and had to be cleaned. the dealer cleaned it and it was fine until we had to take it back on 12/21/09. again they cleaned the throttle cable. the first repair was covered by the warranty. the second time cost us $125. i believe our pacifica has the same problem as the toyotas'. i'm sure we'll have to take it back again. *tr

My problems began on 10/03/05 @ 2,826 miles. since that time there have been a litany of problems through eighteen months. wheel sensors -6 were replaced. front end noise like a rubbing sound. returned to dealer several times. accelerator sticking. returned to dealer several times each time they lubricated the linkage but after two weeks the problem continued. at this point nothing else was done concerning the accelerator. next, problem a defective axle, replaced. power module replaced. doors would not lock and car would not start after installation of the power module. the car had to be towed to the dealer. it was repaired. parking brake assembly fell apart in the rear brakes as i was driving down the highway. parking brake assembly replaced by the dealer. front end vibration again brought to dealers attention. another wheel sensor replaced. on 5/24/07 brought my pacifica back to the dealer concerning the front end noise. they replaced the power steering pump on 5/30/07. on 6/04/07 returned to the dealer noise in front end still there. also, the accelerator still sticks. concerning the front end noise, they said that a power steering line was leaking and they repaired it. the accelerator butterfly was finally replaced after over a year of complaints. on 6/08/07 i returned the car because of the same noise in the front end every time you turn left or right. at this point they decided to replace the steering rack. i picked up the car on 6/14/07 the vibration rubbing noise was still there. i returned to the dealer on 6/15/07. the service manager told me that they could not fix the car and to take the car home and wait for chrysler to call. it has now been 6 weeks and they have not called. i have called the dealer several times for up dates , they say that they do not have any information. chrysler's letter, dated 6/26/07 states, we consider this matter closed, even though the car has still not been repaired. *tr

I own a 2005 chrysler pacifica. on three occasions the gas pedal on this car has stuck. the car is under warranty. i took it to the dealer, kerry in milford, ohio and asked to have this potentially dangerous situation corrected. their service people tell me that this is wear and tear and not covered by the warranty, and that i can pay $170 for them to clean out the gunk under the car, which is likely to be causing the sticking. in over 40 years of driving i have never had this problem before. i wrote chrysler who initially told me that they couldn't repair because the warranty was run, and then, when i corrected that error, said it was not covered under the bumper to bumper warranty. *jb

Our 2005 pacifica touring awd was purchased new in 2005, we had a problem with the cruise control at about 4000 miles. when driving out of town the cruise control shut off, the indicator light on the instrument panel still had the cruise light on , but the set light went off. we could not use the cruise control until we pulled over and restarted the engine. this happened again around 16000 miles. both times the dealer said they could not recreate the problem. around 17, 500 miles the radio would not delay and stayed on after the ignition was turned to off. *ak about two weeks later the map lights would not work when the engine was running. it was brought to the dealer and we were told that the body control module (bcm) was bad and it would be replaced. the part was ordered and installed. in january of 2007 my wife (seven months pregnant) and members of her family drove the pacifica to kansas for a family wedding. on the return trip while driving through texas around 10:00pm the instrument panel, brake lights, turn signals, radio, air conditioner/heater all failed. the only working interior/exterior lights were the automatic headlights. she called me and i notified the dealer, who told me to have her bring it in when she gets back. thankfully a family member in the car had a gps enabled cell phone with a speedometer and they made it back without incident. the bcm was found to be the problem and a new unit was ordered and installed. in march of 2007 the map lights once again stopped working and the vehicle was brought to the dealership yet again. once again the bcm was the problem and it was replaced. we notified chrysler customer service and they had the dealer technician check the wire splicing for the instrument panel thinking that was the problem. the technician could not find anything that would cause the bcm failures and we were told that it should not happen again. needless to say we are worried that this may start happening again.
