RQ06002CHRYSLER GROUP LLC02/27/200606/22/2006ENGINE STALLING
On february 27, 2006 rq06-002 was opened in response to 60 complaints of engine stall, mostly during left-hand turns, in model year (my) 2004 to 2006 chrysler pacifica vehicles that were outside the scope of recall 04v-113.in march 2004, daimlerchrysler initiated recall 04v-113 on 34,561 my 2004 pacifica vehicles to correct a condition that could result in engine stall while making a left-hand turn after a cold-start.during rq06-002 it was determined that recall 04v-113 did correct the specific cause of the engine stalling condition for that specific population.however, two other conditions were identified that could also cause engine stalling during turning maneuvers:(1) an issue with misbuilt fuel pumps that primarily affected about 17,000 my 2005 pacifica vehicles built during august and september 2004; and (2) a software condition affecting vapor purge in about 131,000 my 2005-06 pacifica vehicles built from july 2004 through november 2005. an engineering analysis, ea06-013, has been opened to further examine the scope, frequency and safety consequences associated with each of these conditions in the subject vehicles.

In a november 8, 2006 letter, daimlerchrysler corporation (dcc) submitted a defect information report to nhtsa concerning two separate defect conditions that could result in engine stall while driving in model year (my) 2005-2006 chrysler pacifica vehicles (nhtsa recall no. 06v-432).my 2005 vehicles built in august and september of 2004 are being recalled to correct a defect in the secondary fuel pump modules, which may have an improper press fitting on the inlet that can become dislodged and shut-off fuel flow.all my 2005-2006 vehicles built between july 8, 2004 and november 11, 2005 are being recalled to correct a powertrain control module (pcm) software issue with the evaporative emissions system which can also cause stalling.for both conditions, engine stall incidents tend to occur during left turns. there were 17,375 vehicles built during august and september 2004 that were affected by both the fuel pump module and pcm software conditions.there were 30 voqs submitted to odi, 58 consumer complaints to dcc and 829 field reports relating to vehicles produced during this period.while these are mostly related to the fuel pump condition, some may have been caused by the software fault.the resulting stall while driving failure rate for this period is 5,278 incidents per 100,000 vehicles.there were two crashes alleged to have resulted from these incidents.there were 1,021 warranty claims for fuel pump module replacement that appear related to engine stall (5.9% claim rate). the population for the remaining vehicles included in 06v-432 (i.e., those only affected by the software condition) is 114,523.there were 97 voqs, 124 consumer complaints to dcc and 454 dcc field reports relating to these vehicles.the resulting stall while driving failure rate is 589 per 100,000 vehicles.there were seven crashes alleged to have resulted from these incidents.there were 3,211 warranty claims for pcm reflash that appear related to engine stall in the total population of 131,898 vehicles (2.4% claim rate). all calculations are based on unique vins (multiple/repeat failures not included in these calculations) with no duplication across categories.dcc's recall will reprogram the pcm software and replace the fuel pump modules in all affected vehicles.this engineering analysis has been closed.

Noticed a couple of times that the car hesitated when merging on to highway or accelerating on the highway. today however, it did that in town, going about 35 mph and then stalled, check engine light came on and smoke came out from under the hood. now it won't even start. *tr

Ive had this car for just over one year. i have replaced 2 motor mounts, 6 months apart. the electric cooling fan motor bearing went bad and you cant replace just the motor, you have to replace both motors, both fans and the shroud ( ridiculous ). my check engine light is on and says fuel cap on dash but i replaced the cap and now as i'm looking on this site i know its probably the gas tank lines cracked. ive also got the sticky gas pedal, transmission bangs into 2nd randomly. my conclusion after reading about so many problems that many people are having with this vehicle is that there should be recalls. i mean jesus were talking about fire hazards and a sticking accelerator potentially causing an accident. nothing but problems with this car at such low miles. never again chrysler.

Obtained car brand new in 2006, yr later had to replace engine, was said they gave us a new one, prior to that we had sunroof issue that still persist to this day 6years later... elecrical off. one minute you have gas and next mintue literally fuel light is on..fast foward a tad 2007 stalling problems,...fast fowrd even more 30,000miles later.... stalling allllllllot, especially while i'm driving with my kids. making a u-turn and just simply parking into a space no go.. gas cap light is on, check engine light on.... currently vehicle is at dealership which was charging us $2,632.00 to fix problems, besides overcharging ridiculously, chrysler offered to pay most of bill after doing research and realizing we were getting ripped off, a two day job is now turned into 1week, no vehicle, no loaner.. 6yrs. later failed emissions test is what prompted myself to take it to a dealership...now i cannot pass an emissions test nor register my vehicle @ end month>( today). would like to trade, however they low balled me & said $4,000.they cannot get car to reset, and still could not find out why it is stalling. after letting dealership know i have an open case seems like they are singing a different tune...still no car/ no fix...

Vehicle gear shift stuck in park even though brake is depressed. tried rocking the vehicle back and forth to see if it was stuck in gear, no change. i conducted an internet search for this problem and found that several chrysler and dodge products have this exact same problem. cause: a small pink piece of plastic that has a spring attached to it, which is a gear locking mechanism, tends to break at about 40-60 thousand miles or sooner. there are no chrysler recalls for this item. the piece seems to cost about $2.00 for chrysler to make however, one will pay $300-$400 or more for the dealer to fix. takes minutes to replace if you know what you are doing. one can find the part online and replace with metal so that it will not break again for about $50. chrysler complaint line states that they will not fix unless nhtsb files a recall complaint. then i may get reimbursed for my cost. the pink plastic piece can break at any time leaving the driver stranded anywhere at any time, e.g. the drive thru., parking structure at night, etc..

While driving my pacifica at 60 mph the vehicle suddenly jerked and the check engine light came on and the engine was reving high so i slowed down and it was tacking at 6000 rpm while only going 40 mph. i stopped and turned the engine off. when i restarted it it shifted normally. a few days later it did it again. then it did it twice in one day. i took it to chrysler and they said there was internal damage and they wanted $1000 just to drop the transmission before they fixed anything.this accurred when the vehicle had 80000 miles on it. when it only had 36000 miles the engine threw a rod and i had to spend $3000 for a new engine. i've since learned that pacifica's burn a quart of oil about every 1000 miles. i would have checked the oil more often had i known this. i traded it in rather then replace the transmission. but not on a chrylser.

When i had my car in to fix a front end problem last year i was told two of the three motor mounts need to be replaced. now when having a tie rod replaced i am told subframe brackets are rotted and need to be replaced. a car that is five years old should not be rotting from normal driving. engine mounts on a car should not go after four years.

Car has stalled (engine cuts out completely) without any warning and while being driven at least 4 time. most recent was while merging onto freeway it just stopped, nearly causing fatal accident to my daughter who was driving at the time. complete shut down of car causes the steering wheel to lock with no means of getting to side of road. you're a sitting duck for a crash. fortunately, she got the car in park and restarted it. the car is at stevens creek chrysler dealership (towed there today). i am also in touch with chrysler corporation regarding this flaw and reparations that are due me from this lemon. the dealerships number is 408 248-1800. they are aware i am pursuing my options with this dangerous car and i really don't want it back even if they tell me they've fixed it. i don't trust this problem as it's rampant and cars are being recalled for this reason. it's a blessing my daughter wasn't killed from what this car did.

My 2006 chrysler pacifica touring with the 3.5 l v6 tends to burn excessive oil. it appears that a lot of people with this engine seem to have this same issue. between my 3000 mile oil changes, my vehicle will lose 1-1.5 quarts of oil. there is no visible leaks and we are not seeing any smoke coming from my tail pipe. some websites have indicated the engine design being at fault. they say the engine gets too hot and remains too hot causing the oil to prematurely break down and turn to sludge. i started noticing the issue at about 60k miles. i'm now at 72k miles. i've contacted chrysler and they indicated that 1 quart per 1000 miles is nothing to worry about and within manufacturer tolerances. this is ridiculous for a 2006 vehicle. here are some sites where a lot of users have complained: http://www.astralautorepairs.com/forum/index.php?topic=2.0 http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f12caf4 http://www.chryslerforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5440 the astralautorepairs site seems to have explained the cause of the issue and a non-conventional fix that hasn't been thoroughly tested.

2006 chrysler pacifica stalling ..... with no warning in middle of intersections and worse on the highway in traffic was told by many dealers that it was the oil switch as the oil light comes on when it happens also was told that it was the incorrect oil filter ony chrysler filters must be used on that engine , this is my wifes car and now it is happinging about every time she stops and or left turn , she has been in many situations where she was almost in an accident to the piont that she doesnt even drive the car anymore in seeing all the complants about this i would hope that a recall would be issued before someone looses a life

2006 chrysler pacifica using over a quart of oil per week, there are thousands of same complaint all over the internet with the same response that i have received from chrysler dealers. 1 quart per week or 1 thousand miles is a perfectly normal oil burn off rate this is a serious safety issue and financial issue especially involving a car this new and it started at 37,000 miles. the car is not leaking oil, it just disappears and from other stories i have read it says that the piston rings do not fit the engine cylinders. correct me if i am wrong but couldn't this problem cause engine failure or fire. not to mention leave a person stranded after the engine blows. *tr

We bought a 2006 pacifica touring this car burns a quart of oil 1000 mile. its like clockwork, i have to check it all the time!!!! because it consistently burns oil. no vehicle with 37000 should do that we have a 2003 chevy with a v-6 with 137000 miles and it doe not burn near the oil if any. this need to be seriously looked at by chrysler my problem is at 37000 miles our warranty expired!! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pacifica. the contact noticed that the display on the instrument panel would sporadically fail. in addition, the vehicle would stall without warning. on one occasion, the piston rod failed and caused the engine to stall while idling. she took the vehicle to the dealer and they replaced the battery, alternator, and computer (icm). shortly after the repairs, the failure resurfaced. all of the remedies have been insufficient in correcting the failures. the failure mileage was 27,922 and current mileage was 59,999.

My 2006 chrysler pacifica started leaking fluid a few days ago. i took it into the shop and they told me that the rear motor mount is defective. the part is back-ordered. supposedly they say it is safe to drive. i am worried that if i am in an accident or have to go on a bumpy road that something serious could happen. the dealer said that this part shouldn't need to be replaced...according to what i have read it seems to be a problem with the pacifica having defective motor mounts in their cars. chrysler should be responsible for this, it is not a part that normally wears out (let alone at 32,000 miles). the worst part is that our car just came off of the 3 year warranty one month ago...ugh. *tr

2006 pacifica i have had 10-12 instances where my vehicle has stalled during a left hand turn. initially they were far enough apart that it didn't seem that bad and they appeared to only happen at slow parking lot speeds. my most recent 2 events were much worse: one happened with my children in the car driving on a mountain road and had to do a hard hairpin left turn that almost resulted in our driving off the face of the mountain!!! latest event occurred while making a left hand turn through traffic on a divided highway. the vehicle once again stalled during the left turn at about 40 mph while crossing traffic. i narrowly avoided being hit and almost hit another vehicle head on due to the failure. please help us.. this is unreal! *tr

Car has had the service engine soon light on for over 6 months. tried to get dealer to honor warranty - 48/50,000 - but had no luck. as of october, 15th, 2010, the car became inoperable due to a heavy knocking sound associated with the engine. i tried relentlessly again to have the dealer honor the warranty. i was told to bring the car in and i did so. their testing found that there is sludge in the motor, whatever that is. the repairs will take $11,000 to fix, which is more than the worth of the vehicle in some cases. i have tried consumer affairs in maryland but the dealer has not budged. the car is still in the dealer's possession.

I purchased a 2006 chrysler pacifica in may 2007 w/ 20,134 miles on it. it started a tapping noise at the beginning of aug 2008 (apprx 40,840 miles) and went into the shop on 08/04/08. the dealership called me on 08/08/08 to p/u my vehicle and reported that the noise was due to my using non-mopar oil and filter (they changed the oil and filter that day). the car was still making the noise when i started it but the mechanic informed me that well it sounds better than it did, you just need to drive it for a few days. i left the dealership and drove it the 35 miles home. by the time i got home the noise was worse than ever. my husband hauled the car back to the dealership 08/11/08 (all tow drivers picked by roadside assistance wanted at least $100 over the $100 daimler warranty pays). the car sat there for a week and when i tried to p/u a rental car 08/15/08, the service manager stated that my car was drivable even though they had just ordered new lifters. he also told this to daimler so they would only pay for 5 days rental which of course did not cover the full time they took to complete the repairs on 08/22/08. the noise was gone when i got it that day. on 09/06/08 the noise started again and is now in the shop (a different dealership this time) for the 3rd time in a month for the same problem. *tr

Oil consumption problem with 2006 chrysler pacifica. my 2006 pacifica has 38000 miles on it and i am experiencing issues with oil consumption. i was told by the dealership that chrysler corporation believes it is 'acceptable' that a car with under 50,000 miles burns approximately 1 quart of oil per 1000 miles! this is absurd if you ask me! how can this be acceptable ? another problem is that i've read from other blogs is that chrysler does not feel that this is an issue that warrants further investigation and many times, the underlying issue for the poor oil consumption is not found until a major problem occurs with the engine, and the car's warranty has expired, leaving the consumer to suffer the consequences! this is not only bad business but has to be bad for the environment, if a car is 'burning' oil that fast, where is it going? no wonder the world is suffering from global warming if automakers like chrysler and ford find that burning oil this fast is acceptable!! please help! i know this must be a widespread issue. i've read many on-line comments of consumer suffering from this same problem with chrysler pt cruisers, pacificas, and others! *tr
