The agency has closed this investigation based on its review of consumer complaints, field reports, warranty claims and other data regarding engine compartment fires and power steering fluid leakage in model year (my) 2007 chrysler pacifica vehicles with 4.0l engines.the available evidence indicates that power steering fluid leaks in the subject vehicles and the fires that may result from these leaks, occurred early in the vehicle's service life.moreover, changes in the assembly process appear to have remedied the condition causing the leaks.the available data confirms a declining trend for both complaints and warranty claims as the subject vehicles remain in service. the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by the agency that a safety-related defect does not exist.the agency reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances.  2007 chrysler pacifica. consumer states experience with mechanical problems. *tgw the consumer stated at 2,900 miles, a smoke condition developed in the vehicle's engine. a diagnostic revealed the front axle seal was defective. at approximately 3,800, the smoke condition developed again and the consumer was informed that the power transfer unit needed to be replaced. at 25,893, the power transfer unit had to be removed and replaced after it was discovered that there was a leak in an input seal. at 26,906 miles, the engine mount was replaced; at 48,062 miles, the blower motor was replaced; at 48,490 miles, the blend air door of the blower was replaced and the rear axle seals were replaced due to leaks; at 63,852 miles, the pvc valve, fuel pump, egr valve and battery were replaced and a short in the wiring to the alternator was repaired; at 65,479, the vehicle broke down and had to be towed. it was determined the computer needed to be replaced. at 82,439 miles, the motor mount failed and was replaced, an isolater was installed and power transfer unit was leaking again. the consumer took the vehicle back to the dealer, after driving it for 15 minutes, because it was in worse condition than when she left it with the dealer. the engine was racing at 6000 rpms, while driving at 50 mph, there was a loud noise coming from the engine and a banging noise could be heard upon turning the steering wheel. the dealer stated there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. however, when the consumer drove the vehicle for 20 miles, the malfunction indicator light illuminated. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, and after an inspection, the dealer stated the transmission control module relay was faulty. the consumer was assured the issues were fixed. however, on her way home, the malfunction indicator light illuminated again, the engine was racing and the entire vehicle jolted every time she shifted into, drive, park or reverse. the power door locks failed and the consumer was locked inside the vehicle for several minutes.

While driving at speeds of 10-35 mph, the oil and esp lights would illuminate, then the engine will simply cut off / stall. we have to put on the emergency flasher while in traffic, put the vehicle in neutral or park and restart. no engine light. we brought the pacifica in to the dodge dealership 5 times and they could not find any codes. they tried updating the software on the ecm which did not help. then, the dealership said the motor mounts were bad and the torque of the engine was pulling on the front wiring harness(es), causing the stalling issue. we had all 3 (front, rear, upper) engine/motor mounts replaced and the issue still happens every time we try to drive the car. the dealership has the car again and said the front motor mount still looks like it is bad even though it was replaced 4 days ago. based on what i've read in the nhtsa database and the dodge dealership telling me that motor mounts go out on a lot of pacificas, this is happening to a lot of 2007 pacifica owners. chrysler should absolutely recall the motor mounts on this vehicle and provide a more reliable replacement motor mount with a robust design at no charge to all pacifica owners. my wife has reported that she has almost been rear ended several times as a result of suddenly stalling while driving. to have this vehicle completely stall out while my wife is taking my 3 kids to school or other activities could cause a crash and is potentially life threatening. i just want this issue to be resolved. the pacifica is a well designed car and we love the interior but we need reliable transportation. *tr

From one day to another, the engine light turned on, the oil light turned on, the esp bas light turned on, the car sign with the curved lines under it, and the awd sign and that's just to name a few. the car was also not reversing and the car was shifting really hard. took it into the dealer, and they told my mechanic that it was the computer, but they weren't sure if that would even fix the problem because they are not sure if that is the problem. they said i would have to pay for everything and if that didn't fix it i would have to spend more money until they found the actual fix.and the best part is when the car was under warranty they had to reprogram the pcm. power train:automatic transmission:control module (tcm, pcm). this car has always been kept in tip top shape with its regular maintenance, oil changes and etc... do not know what to do at this point because under the advice of my mechanic, he says this car is way to new to be giving so many problems. all i know is that chrysler will be hearing from my attorney, because for what i know this is not the first time chrysler has had problems with their pcm,tcm which is the cars computer. someone please help!!!! i can not drive this car anymore, i have a 2 year old daughter and i refuse to put her in a car that is going crazy!

The car continues to stall at low speeds. we have taken to mechanic and they do not find any service alerts, and weren't able to duplicate on a test drive. it is starting to pick up in frequency to where it is doing it every other day now. i also called the service group at the chrsyler dealer i purchased it from, and they said they can only do what i had already done with the other mechanic shop. i went to the chrysler forum to post and see if anyone else had experienced this, and see numerous postings of this issue over the years. i am very concerned with the safety of my family, as when the car stalls, it locks up and i lose control. i have to pull over and restart.

I purchased my 2007 chrysler pacifica on 06-05-07, within three days i noticed that everytime i locked the car and open it, the driver's seat and both side mirrors would adjust themselves on their own. i took the car back and the dealer attempted to correct the problem and eventual disconnected the computer that controlled the seat adjustment. needless to say this did not work. on july 13, 2007, while at work, i was doing home visits. i was running behind and forgot to readjust the mirrors when i got in the car. while backing up i hit a mail box causing $1,000.00 damage to the car. i went back to the dealer and informed them of the accident, they told me that they would have to contact the manufacturer as they did not know how to fix the problem. to date i am still waiting to hear from someone. if february of this year, i asked that the problem be fixed, to give me a rental or another car as i was having knee surgery in march, nothing was done and nothing has been done as yet. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 chrysler pacifica. when the vehicle reaches 2,000 rpms while on a slight incline, the transmission begins to shutter and skip. this leads to failure between the transmission and the torque converter. the contact recently took the vehicle to the repair shop and they stated that it could not be repaired until september of 2007. the transmission also makes a harsh clunking sound when shifting. the contact believes that the suspension may be failing because the vehicle rides roughly at any speed. the current mileage was 800 and failure mileage was 350. the consumer stated chrysler stated this was a software problem and will not be able to fix the vehicle until sometime in september. updated 09/11/07 *tr

I drove 20 miles. pulled into a parking place, and a fire erupted under my hood. the front end of the car became engulfed in flames, and the fire department had to put the fire out. they sprayed water inside the car's cabin to extinguish the fire in the dash and under the hood. *tr pone interview update (oct. 5, 2007): i was vacationing with my three children in florida when the car caught fire under the hood and totaled it. the hot-spot shown on the hood is half way down on the driver side. an aftermarket dvd player was installed in the passenger cabin but that should not be related to the fire under the hood. chrysler paid me for the vehicle.
