Defect SummaryVehicle description: certain passenger vehicles, pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of fmvss no. 225, child restraint anchorage systems. some of the owner's manuals for these vehicles are missing instructions that provide a step-by-step procedure, including diagrams, for properly attaching a child restraint system's tether strap to the tether anchorage.
Consequence SummaryIn the event of a crash, the child seat may not be properly attached increasing the risk of injury to the child.
Corrective SummaryOwners will be provided with an addendum to the owner's manuals.

 Tl*the contact owns a 2001 chrysler pt cruiser and a 2008 evenflo embrace child restraint seat model number 4851906a. the contact was transporting the child in an infant only child restraint seat. the handle of the child restraint seat loosened when grasped firmly. the handle was not attached securely to the restraint seat. the handle did not fail. there was slipping of the handle which could cause release of the child seat and occupant. there were no injuries. the restraint seat was replaced for safety issues involved. the contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer. the vin number was unknown. bl

 Dt*: the contact owns a touriva #22-130 wal convertible child seat manufactured by cosco juvenile on june 29, 2005. the shield assembly dislodged from the child seat shell. the shield assembly was loose prior to the complete dislodgement. the manufacturer has not been alerted.

 Tl*the contact owns an evenflo discovery rearfacing infant seat, model 3091892a. the seat was manufactured on november 10, 2008. the contact stated that the base of the infant seat does not properly anchor to the vehicle. the seat does not appear to be stable, which is a safety hazard in the event of a crash. the child is 13 months old and weighs 31 lbs. the manufacturer stated that the failure was a normal characteristic of the seat. the contact still has possession of the seat. updated 03/18/09. *lj updated 03/19/09. *jb
