| My 2001 pt cruiser has suddenly developed large cracks on the dash. i've never put any heavy things on it or used it to hold myself when cleaning the windshield and out of the blue, it's cracked. of course it's out of warranty and the purchase price through the dealer is only $40.00 or so more than the installation price. the part costs about $250.00. chrysler is gouging us. there is no way that part takes over 2 hours to replace and that's what it would be at today's mechanic's labor prices! *tr | |||

| I have had to replace the entire front engine cradle, also known as the k-frame or front sub-assembly. it is the structural steel framework bolted to the underbody that the lower control arms attach to. the steering rack is bolted to the top of it. the lower engine torsion connector is mounted to it. the reason? total rust out! the right wheel hub and lower control arm broke away from the k-frame because of rust. the car was being driven slowly at the time, and that was a good thing, because the car could barely be driven after. no accident occurred. *tr | |||

| I have a 2001 chrysler pt cruiser. i had purchased the car used but in perfect condition in 2003 - approximately 6 months after i purchased the car, my dashboard cracked. i don't mean a small, hairline crack, but a crack where if it was pushed on it would crumble and fall. i took it to our local frikins chrysler dealer who told me that it was due to using armor all. when i told him i did not use any armor all, he said that it was now due to lack of care. i also had to have the air bag sensor replaced 3 times, in which my dash was further cracked - and it is still not working. this ruins the look of my car. i was told there was nothing i could do, until someone suggested file a complaint on the web site. thank you. *tr | |||

| The dashboard has cracked in half from the center of the base of the windshield, through the oval defroster grating, and all the way back to where the dash meets the center console. the defroster grating has actually fallen into the dash, and other smaller cracks are forming off of the main one. i didn't complain about this problem when it happened until i recently discovered that other owners were having similar problems. chrysler has been most unhelpful and has has denied any culpability. *tr | |||

| Tl*the contact owns a 2001 chrysler pt cruiser. the contact stated that the front and rear bumpers are faded out. the part of the bumpers nearest to the vehicle's body is surrounded by a one inch white line. the bumpers are a charcoal gray color. the bumpers were replaced under warranty, but the failure has recurred. her warranty has expired and now she would have to pay for this repair herself. she spoke with a mechanic at the dealer who stated that they are aware of the failure, but no recalls have been issued. the current mileage is 41,000 and failure mileage was 20,965. | |||

| Recenlty on my local news they had a story saying that 2001 dodge vehicles were having a problem with dashboards caving in on the driving while driving. i have a 2001 chrysler p.t. cruiser (chrysler is a dodge) my dashboard has a crack in it and i'm concerned that this is not a isolated problem and my dash board could sind at any moment. this is happening as the drivers are driving down the road and shutting everything down in the dashboard that you need to drive safely with, just wanted to place my concern that this could be effecting other dodge model cars. *tr | |||

| I have a problem with the rear bumper of my car and also the door pillars. first off, all of the older pts that i have seen have problems with both of these items. the bumper has some sort of discoloration problem on the edges of the bumper. it looks like there may have been some tape (from the factory?) that has discolored the bumpers on these vehicles. also, the door pillar that are factory black get this terrible staining. it looks as if they are water spotted, but it is just a defect in the paint on the pillars. i see it on every cruiser i see. i has to buy chrome covers to make my car look presentable. i can't believe that there has not been a recall to replace these eyesores (and not on my dime, like i did). *jb | |||

| My 2001 chrysler pt cruiser has discolorations (white stripes) on the dark gray front and back bumpers because the auto maker put plastic and tape on them to protect them in delivery. the adhesive in the tape has destroyed the finish on the gray plastic. this started to show up after 6 years of owning it when it sat in the sun. most of the time i have owned this vehicle it was parked in a garage. for the past year it has been parked outside. this was when the stripes started to show up. chrysler is aware of the problem and says they have a tsb on it but says they are not willing to fix it and that i (the consumer) have to go buy products to fix it myself, which i don't understand how you can make sun bleaching and fading go away, it's permanently damaged. they stated that under no circumstance will this be covered under warranty. i have driven around to see if other pt's are having the same problem and every pt cruiser i have seen with a gray plastic bumper has the same defect. i have taken photos of 5 different ones just today. this is irresponsible for chrysler to deny they are at fault when clearly they caused the problem by putting tape on our bumpers. if my car had been in to a repair shop and they had placed tape on the bumpers they would be responsible and liable for their actions. i am frustrated that they won't do anything to fix this problem. these discolorations are a permanent problem and are sun bleached, they won't just go away. i would like my bumpers either replaced or painted to match the rest of the car. i am also spreading the word to other pt cruiser owners, in hopes that chrysler will see that this is a big problem and is not going to go away on its own. this will cause a financial hardship on my family to repair this ourselves. *tr | |||

| Automatic door locks are a design defect because the device does not do what it was intended to do under all conditions. this feature is surpose to lock the doors above a speed of 15 mph. but if the vehicle doors were unlocked when the car is in park and the engine running, then the vehicle is then put in drive and moves above 15mph the automatic door locks does not function leaving the doors unlock which is not what the device was design intent was, but the dealer claims is by design. i also own a 1996 dodge caravan and the automatic door locks function under all conditions to lock the doors when the vehicle 15mph which is a very reassuring feature to have in the car. i feel the automatic door locks in the ptcruiser design is faulty if it does not lock the doors at all times when the vehicle reachs speeds above 15mph and provides the passangers with a false condition of security that the automatic door locks will lock the doors whenever the vehicle has begin to move at street legal speeds.*ak | |||
