| The engine starting making a ticking sound while i was driving uphill about 40 mph. i stopped to check oil which was about 1/2 quart down. i proceeded to continue driving i went about another mile and the car started losing power. unknown to me but the car was already on fire. someone behind me alerted me and within a minute or two the pt cruiser was engulfed in flames. | |||

| The dashboard has been cracking from the center defrost vent towards the drivers side area. the crack is approximately 8 inches in length. the crack continues to grow due to the fact that when the vehicle is being driven, road vibrations cause the cracks to open and widen. i am concerned because the cracks could cause the dash to cave in which could have an effect on the air bag or wiring, which could be a safety issue. i contacted chrysler's assistance hotline and was told that nothing could be done since there was no recall on the vehicle and the vehicle was out of warranty. | |||

| While cleaning dashboard on a 2001 pt cruiser, the dash cracked down the middle near the vent in the dashboard. while it is primarily cosmetic, this is not something that should be breaking in a 7 year old (8 model years) car. i do have some concerns about further failures in the dash while driving and a piece potentially getting lodged by the gas or brake pedal, the shifter, or steering wheel. *tr | |||
