2004 chrysler pt cruiser. stated issue when i first picked up car, continued losing air in all four tires. loss of pressure in vehicle tires. the root cause of the tire leakage was because the coating on the original equipment wheel rims was deteriorating and not permitting an air tight seal. i have gone through several sets of tires and rims are now cracking.

We own a 2004 chrysler pt cruiser gt which we bought new. the problem started approximately at 33,000 miles and is still ongoing. we took the car to our tire dealer to find out what was causing the leakage and they discovered that it was caused by the flaking off of the chrome alloy on the wheels. the dealer replaced the one wheel that was defective which was just after the warranty expired, and now at 43,000 miles we have at least two more doing the same thing. we contacted the dealer again and after about two months they finally said they would not replace the other wheels after talking with the chrysler representative. this is a very unsafe situation as a tire will heat up when it slowly loses air and could fail at high speed and possibly cause a life threatening situation. i have learned this by experience as a truck driver when i had a slow leak in a wheel on the steering axle and it exploded on my truck at least four different times until we finally found the tiny leak in the chrome wheel. the dealer's service department would not give me the number or name of who he talked to as he said it was company policy not to give these out. he also did not know who the manufacturer of the wheel was and he would have to find out from the parts dept. this of course upset me and i raised my voice to him and he said that if i kept yelling at him he would refuse to help me at all. this was done all by phone on 8-11 08

Stock chrysler 17 chrome aluminum wheels are defective. they are rusting from the inside out causing the tire to lose air pressure. was take to the dealership to get inspected - after which i was told that chrysler does not warranty defective materials if the vehicle is over 3 years old or has more than 36,000 miles. even though i have an extended warranty for 7 years/85,000 miles. an the rotting from the inside of the rim is not limited to a specific to the vehicle of chrysler's production. it effects all makes an models with the chromed aluminum rims. sebring - pt cruiser - pacfica - etc. an giving the fact the rims don't hold air i believe that could be a major safety issue because that effect the handling an braking which could cause the car to lose control. chrysler is still currently sell's the same product on there new cars. even though there have been numerous complaints about the wheels an there defect. but do to the fact that by the time the customer notices there rims are defective the 3 years/36,000 miles is up. an the customer who bought the car is told they aren't under warranty but if you would like to order a new set they would be happy to do so at the expense of the owner's pocket book. i believe chrysler practice's are wrong on how they operate - by selling the customer what is ultimately defective materials. i have talked with other chrysler vehicle owner's with the chrome aluminum rims an have told me they fought chrysler an that they too have to replace air in the tire every other day like myself. p.s. due to the defective rims i am required to put atleast 20+ psi in my tires every other day. *tr

I bought a 2004 pt/gt cruiser new(12 miles) from the dealer in 02-05. the day i left the property i noticed a serious vibration at speeds higher than 45 mph. i notified the dealer , took the car back for correction problem not solved. twice the car has returned , still no solution. today(03-10-05), dealer notifies me that the problem is an egineering problem --wheel/rim size-- corrected by chrysler in the 2005 model. this issue was not told to me prior to purchase. the dealer refuses to correct the problem and told me take it to arbritration! this car is not safe at speeds over 45 mph with the current problem. *ak
