Defect SummaryCertain aftermarket brake hydraulic master cylinders sold as replacement brake cylinders for certain ford, daimlerchrysler, and jeep passenger vehicles. these brake cylinders were sold under the brand names of napa, raybestos, aimco, ac delco, carquest, bendix, and wagner. only products that were manufactured from july 27, 2005 through january 17, 2006 (date codes 0529 through 0602) are subject to this recall. when subject to very cold temperatures, an internal seal in the master cylinder could lose flexibility and may cause brake fluid to leak.
Consequence SummaryLoss of brake fluid can lead to a decrease in brake line pressure and an increase in stopping distance, which can result in a vehicle crash.
Corrective SummaryAffinia (brake parts, inc.) will replace the subject brake hydraulic master cylinders free of charge. the recall began on march 20, 2006. owners can contact affina group customer service at 1-800-323-0354.
NotesThis recall only pertains to aftermarket napa, raybestos, ac delco, aimco, carquest, and bendix brake hydraulic master cylinders and has no relation to any original equipment installed on daimlerchrysler or ford vehicles.customers may contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty: 1-800-424-9153); or go to http://www.safercar.gov.

Shortly after getting the van we had it in the shop for brake surging, in the shop twice for this. then a couple times after that during services we complained again. then at some low mileage of about 26,000 we had to get a complete brake job, then again at 50,??? . when i asked the service rep. if there was a problem with the rotor and drums heating up and warping and he said he could not say. i believe there may have been incomplete testing of the components or below standards materials utilized.

My wife had been driving approximately 30 miles on the freeway. as she was exiting the freeway, she stepped on the brake peddle to slow down normally. she felt pressure from the peddle, but then the peddle went all the way down with no effect. she pumped the peddle at least one more time, but again it went all the way down with no effect. she then had to concetrate on avoiding other cars, but finally rear ended a truck. after the minivan was repaired, we had the brakes inspected by two service centers. the second service center is the one listed in the report and is the one that regularly services our minivan. we are wondering what could cause this type of brake failure and if there are any other similar incidences that have been reported?

Vehicle vibrating above 45 mph chrysler said it was the tires, michelin said it was the vehicle. we got 25%off the cost of new tires on 02/04/99 under a low speed wobble service bullitin notice. transmission is a joke. have had vehicle in time after time since 11/14/99 for incomplete work , tools left on the engine!! transmission fluid and radiator fluid leaking the day after picking up the van. we asked the dealership to check items that another auto shop checked and said needed fixed under the warranty and the dealership told us the other shop didn't know anything that they weren't a dealership! after putting the motor back together, one of the asked to fix components was broken after all and had to be fixed. we are still experiencing problems with hick-upping while at a stop also a wanting to stall and holding back feeling. this has to do with the coil pack (we feel0 , that we have asked them to check and looking at the forms received back, it hasn't been. i have asked repeatedly for my copies of the work needing to be done sheets, and have yet to receive them. i have made complaint to the manufacturer and have asked for the regional manager to contact me, but that hasn't happened yet. this was done on approx. 02/08/00, today is 02-25-00. *ak( dot number: tire size: 21565t16mn )

Outside brake disc pads prematurely worn, inside pads virtually untouched. replaced all pads, one disc, and turned other disc. the actual problem is caused by extremely poorly designed calipers. outside pad in constant contact with disk. releasing brake pedal does not remove pad away from disk. this specific problem is not caused by a malfunctioning part, as far as i can see. the entire caliper design appears to be flawed.*ak

08/11/200581285103/05/2002
Failure of both rear brake hydraulic lines causing sudden loss of brake fluid making emergency brake only operable stopping device. saved old lines. both lines appear to have rusted through. mechanic believes problem is with design in how lines are routed above gas tank approximately two feet ahead of left rear wheel. the position of the lines allows road salt and other corrosives to be collected on the steel surface of the hydraulic lines, thus leading to their eminent failure. please note low mileage of vehicle. mechanic repaired vehicle by installing new lines, but routed them in a position less susceptible to corrosion. failure was preceded by noticeable leaking of brake fluid on garage floor. ultimate failure occurred when vehicle was brought in for inspection/repair. lines burst when mechanic tested brakes by pressing hard on brake pedal while it was parked. brake fluid spilled out all over service floor. actual repair cost: $289.02.*jb *nm
