Defect SummaryCertain aftermarket brake hydraulic master cylinders sold as replacement brake cylinders for certain ford, daimlerchrysler, and jeep passenger vehicles. these brake cylinders were sold under the brand names of napa, raybestos, aimco, ac delco, carquest, bendix, and wagner. only products that were manufactured from july 27, 2005 through january 17, 2006 (date codes 0529 through 0602) are subject to this recall. when subject to very cold temperatures, an internal seal in the master cylinder could lose flexibility and may cause brake fluid to leak.
Consequence SummaryLoss of brake fluid can lead to a decrease in brake line pressure and an increase in stopping distance, which can result in a vehicle crash.
Corrective SummaryAffinia (brake parts, inc.) will replace the subject brake hydraulic master cylinders free of charge. the recall began on march 20, 2006. owners can contact affina group customer service at 1-800-323-0354.

Brake lines rusting. i had a 94 van that was totaled because the brake lines burst during a panic stop. my son was driving the van and a truck went through a red light. my son slammed on the brakes and nothing. the pedal went to the floor; the van rolled down a ravine into a guard rail and totaled the van. the left strut housing was ripped off. at the time i was suspicious of what happened, i thought the brakes could have been pumped to slow the vehicle down, my son said he tried to pump the brakes but nothing happened. the critical issue here is a catastrophic failure of the brakes, which i couldn't understand. everyone on this board that had the lines rupture mentioned a complete failure of the brakes. the van was towed home and upon inspecting a 3

Faulty brake rotors. warped rotors due to poor design. dealership said that rotors were poor design and no cooling vents on rotors it's self. van was making squeaking noises and pulsating feeling when brake was applied. took van to mechanic to look at rotors. mechanic said he didn't see any problem so he cut all four rotors and said brakes were fine. van worked fine for about two weeks. then the squeaking and pulsating started up again. i then changed all four rotors and brake pads. worked fine for about two months and then the problem started again in the month of december. i have owned the van for less than one year and i would like to know if there is a solution to this problem. also compensation for parts. this is my only vehicle and i transport my three kids and wife. my main concern is their safety do to this problem. in january i checked the brakes again and found that the rear left rotor was warped and found a chunk of the original rotor had broken off. i replaced it and saved it. i would like to know what can be done about this. two mechanics have looked at the problem and they keep informing me that the rotor are a poor design from the manufacturer. *jb
