| Defect Summary | Certain aftermarket brake hydraulic master cylinders sold as replacement brake cylinders for certain ford, daimlerchrysler, and jeep passenger vehicles. these brake cylinders were sold under the brand names of napa, raybestos, aimco, ac delco, carquest, bendix, and wagner. only products that were manufactured from july 27, 2005 through january 17, 2006 (date codes 0529 through 0602) are subject to this recall. when subject to very cold temperatures, an internal seal in the master cylinder could lose flexibility and may cause brake fluid to leak. | |||||||||||||||

| I purchased my van in august of 2003. i noticed the brakes were squeaking and took it to the dealer to have them checked out. i was told that my front brackes had 15-20% of the pad left and that they should be replaced and the rotars turned .tthe vehicle has only 22,000 miles on it. it seems to me that brakes should last longer than 22,000 miles.i was told i must do allot of city driving i am now experiencing rough,delayed shifting at about 15 mph. hesitation, clunk. the transmission has slipped out of gear while driving and also rough downshifting. i certainly expected a better quality manufactured vehiicle than what i have experienced so far. i doubt i will ever purchase another vehicle from chrysler!!. | |||

| Tl*the contact owns a 2003 chrysler town and country. the contact stated that the brakes squeaked and pulsated when depressed. all of the brakes and rotors were replaced. the air conditioner compressor made a grating and scraping sound and was replaced, along with the alternator. the contact was afraid to remove the key from the ignition because it would take ten minutes of jiggling to get it back in and start the vehicle. the vehicle would make a clunking noise when shifting into gear. the cylinoid was replaced. the gasket and seal on the water pump and the accessory belt were replaced. the contact was informed that the water pump needed to be replaced within six months. the liftgate was replaced as well. the following recalls were referenced: nhtsa campaign id numbers 03e053000 (fuel system, gasoline), 04v386000 (steering: hydraulic power assist hose, piping and connections), 05v134000 (latches:locks:linkages:hatchback/liftgate lock), and 06e022000 (service brakes, hydraulic). the current and failure mileages were 80,000. updated 04-02-08 *bf the water pump needed to be replaed after 1 year and 8 months. the transmission solenoid and seperpentin belt were replaced. | |||

| The vehicle would not start. the consumer had to use the battery from another vehicle. *la the consumer started to have problems with a rattle in the door, the brakes squeaked, the air and heating would go up by itself, the back automatic hatch was not working and would come open while the vehicle was in motion, there was a loud grinding when the vehicle was placed in reverse due to a faulty accumulator and the check engine light had come on due to the transmission solenoid pack, there was a roaring sound when the vehicle was in motion, the passenger side seat belt was tangled and the drivers side seat belt retractor was faulty, a component was loose in the drivers seat back, there was noise in the sliding door on the right side, the brakes smelled smokey and were scrubbing, the clip on the cup holder was broken and the battery kept dying and would not hold charge. *sc *jb | |||

| I purchased my vechicle in july of 2003. in august of 2003 with about 20,000 miles on it my front brakes had to be replaced. i thought brakes should last much longet than that. the dealership replaced the brakes for me and i chose less expensive ones(180.00) not cheap. he told me they would squeak. ok so they squeaked for months and this past week my rear brakes went bad. i questioned that i have not even had this 1.5 years and have had to replace both front and rear brakes(300.00). he told me they do not make them like they used to. i would expect them to be better today. i am very dissappointed in this van. i will probably never buy a chrysler again considering i have already spent 500.00 on the brakes.*ak | |||

| I purchased a new 2003 chrysler town and country van may 23, 2003. today is august 3, 2004. i have 26,000 miles on this van and have just had to replace the front brakes and had to have the drums ground. the brakes have skweaked since the it was new and i reported this to the dealership at least 2 other times before this time. i was told that was normal on a new van. i think the wear of these brakes is excessive for this milage and believe it to be poor engineering or a substandard assembly i have been told that the back brakes are also wearing and will need to be replaced with the next service. i have owned many many new vehicles and i have never experienced this. this is undoubtedly a deffect under the which the warranty should be effective.*ak | |||

| Dt: consumer purchased a new vehicle in 2003 and since then there have been numerous problems. over the weekend, while driving 45 mph the consumer applied brake pressure because she was approaching a red light and discovered there were no brakes. the brakes were mushy/loose and went to the floor. they were not responding to pressure. the consumer pumped brakes in up and down motion and they activated, but were weak in their response. the consumer was able to stop just barely missing another vehicle. consumer drove vehicle about a mile to the dealership, who stated that master cylinder failed and would have to be replaced. a new master cylinder was ordered. however, the parts have not yet arrived. consumer wished to file a complaint at this time even though she did not know the outcome of this repairs. this was the first time this happened with the brakes. *ak the consumer experienced transmission problems since the vehicle was purchased and the alternator was replaced. *jb | |||
